The food as always was very good. The dining area unfortunately was completely unkept. The utensils were empty at one point during my visit, the trash was literally overflowing and the tables had not been wiped down in sometime. I did notice that there was no music playing too. Normally I don't care about that sort of thing, but due to all the other problems that were going on, the lack of a cheery soundtrack added to the dystopian experience. I'm not sure if this was due to short staffing or possibly due to some other problem that the staff may have been encountering today as I do know they were having problems with their POS system as it kept freezing or rebooting. Either way though I just didn't see any real sense of urgency to get anything back in order from the staff. I probably haven't been to this Pollo Tropical in probably over a year but the last time I was very impressed with the "dine-in" restaurant environment from a fast food joint. Regardless I'm going to see this place another time in a month or two hoping things go back to how they were, but I was not expecting things to be this bad when I pulled in today. read more

The food is pretty good when the order is right which is why I gave two stars. However, the service is absolutely awful every time I go here. The girls in the drive thru have no manners and have attitude. I always check my food and if there is a mess up they get rude & argue instead of nicely fixing the mistake, they close the window on you and you will be sitting out there till they notice, they don't smile, they aren't friendly, they get annoyed if you ask for something, etc. The customer service here is a joke and I can see I'm not the only person who seems to think so. Management needs to step up because this reflects poorly on them. read more

Yes, I am a big fan of Pollo Tropical, and have been since 1991 when they opened a restaurant on South Dixie Hwy. off of Eureka Drive in Miami. In Miami none of the Pollo Tropical locations use servers, so you pick up your order as soon as they call your number. When you are finished eating in Miami you pick up your paper plates, plastic utinsels and whatever is left on your table and take it to a waste receptacle. That system is faster if you are in a hurry. For one thing your order will never just sit there waiting for a server to decide when they will bring it to you. You also do not have to be concerned abour whether or not the dishes or utinsels are sanitary. As far as the Tampa Bay area Pollo Tropical restaurants go, this one is the newest and still has employee problems that I hope they get straightened out soon. My wife and I have been to this one quite often, only because it is the closest one to where we live. In the 23 years that I have been to Pollo Tropica restaurants, this is the first one that actually seems to run out of grilled chicken. One time they told me it would be an hour wait if I wanted grilled chicken. Another time they actually had the nerve to serve me chicken that was not grilled at all, but was NUKED. You can immagine how terrible it tasted. My wife would not eat hers, and my stomach got upset afterwards. If I was the owner I would fire whatever employee pulled that one, even if it was my manager. Come on, this is from the CHICKEN ON THE GRILL restaurant. Like I said this Pollo Tropical has some employee problems, they are extremely slow, but it's still much faster than driving all the way to the Hillsborough Avenue restaurant. One big thing they need to do is get a better Mojo Man who uses more Mojo sauce on the grilled chicken, to give it more flavor. Being a big fan of Pollo Tropical for so many years I gave this restaurant 5 stars only out of respect for the franchise as a whole, and with the hope that this location will get with the program sooner than later. Yes, I would still recommend this Pollo Tropical restaurant because I will not stop going there myself. read more

I have always had trouble with this location getting me the proper food the first time when I place an order, but I have learned to tolerate it, primarily by double checking my food at the window and making sure they give me a receipt. Annoying, but manageable. However, last night, my girlfriend was sick, and wanted their chicken. We drove over at 10:45 PM, 15 minutes before the drive thru closed. However, no one responded to me at the speaker. I pulled up to the window. For five minutes, I couldn't even see anyone inside. However, finally a gentleman came from the back, and began sweeping the kitchen in front of me. I yelled and banged on the window to try to attract his attention so I could place my order, considering that they were still open for 10 more minutes at this point, but there was no response. I witnessed two other employees go along their cleaning duties, and not once did anyone noticed that I was watching them through the drive thru window that was suppose to be open. At 11:00 PM, after having tried in vain to gain their attention for 15 minutes, I finally threw in the towel and left, considering that I had a sick person to feed, and didn't want to waste time on people who didn't want to help. I doubt I will ever be back to this location again, even though I do like their food. read more

We eat here probably once a week or more because we love the food but every time we eat here we leave upset due to the service and filthiness of the dining room.. The tables are NEVER clean, The servers take old food from tables and never come over with a cleaner and a rag, they just expect you to sit down, its gross.. We are VERY often told they are out of something. Last week we ordered and waited over 20 minutes to be told it would be an HOUR for the rice we ordered, We asked for a refund and nobody once gave an apology. They don't keep up with the food and drinks, They take your order and money and they simply tell you something is out like its no big deal. If this place could get the management right it would be amazing but the service is REALLY crappy.. I wish they would do something about it because we do love the food. read more

Ordered a family diner which is supposed to include a whole chicken, beans and rice. On more than one occasion I got home and opened the box to find one breast and a mix of thighs, legs and what appeared to be a back. The chicken is often over salted and over cooked. The yellow rice is the worst I have ever had. How in the world can you mess up rice? The beans often are mostly liquid and the beans are missing. The last time it happened I called 800 number (corporate headquarters) on the receipt and was advised that someone from the Brandon restaurant would call me. Ronnie (not sure since I couldn't understand his message) called and advised me to come back to the drive through and my entire meal would be replaced. I went today and gave them my name but was advised they could not replace the meal. Ok, I guess you can lose a customer forever over a $12.00 chicken meal and that is fine by me. I recently discovered Pollo Tropicale and I am a big fan. The food tastes pretty fresh and it has a lot of flavor. we especially enjoy the chicken wings, plantains, yucca and of course, the condiment bar. It is affordable and almost home cooked. read more

Just stated trying this place a few weeks ago and I enjoy the food and prompt service. The sauces here is the star, and there are plenty of combination available in term of food choice. Ate lunch there today, had the 1/4 chicken & ribs with yellow rice. Ribs & rice was good, but the chicken was very dry, over cooked. Informed the server of this and she stated she had chicken about an hour earlier and hers was dry as well. I am conflicted if I should be giving this place two stars or four stars. The one thing that keeps us coming back is the chicken. It is consistently delicious. But the service leaves much to be desired. Containers of rice and or beans are sometimes just half filled, they are typically forgetting items, and they don't carry all advertised sauces in the drive thru. I honestly don't know if eating inside is any better. It almost looks like a mall cafeteria in the restaurant. It's usually filthy, tables not cleaned off, food and debris on the floors and around the sauce bar. I just wish that they could get their act together so that I could change their rating to a four or five. If you like Caribbean food, their chicken is an amazing alternative to publix's rotisserie chicken. Management, these issues are fixable!
