Avocado & Friends Sandwich with Mixed Vegetables and Banberry Pie
    Derek W.

Polly, I finally figured out what you're doing: Trying to go from 4 stars to 1. From good to bad. From hero to zero. From...okay you get the point. I had completed my Bingo Bonanza card by visiting the Los Alamitos location two more times after my last visit to the Long Beach location. I thought I'd give them one more try to redeem themselves as well as my last reward of a free whole pie. I was heading out of town for Memorial Day weekend to a Polly's Pies-less place, and I wanted a bake-at-home pie to share at my destination. I know that Polly's Pies bakes whole pies, but recently learned that Polly's offers five pies in frozen form: Peach Apricot Rhubarb Blueberry Cherry NSA (No Sugar Added) With America's 250th birthday just around the corner, I was intent on getting a blueberry bake-at-home pie. I wasn't too far from the Long Beach location, so I thought I'd stop by and see if I could redeem the reward here. However, when I came up to the register to let the employee know I was going to redeem my reward of a free whole pie, I asked if it could work on a bake-at-home pie. She asked her manager (Irvin I believe), but they informed me that it would only work on ready to eat pies. Problem is, I was planning to head out of town the next day, so by choosing a ready to eat pie, I would have wasted one day of freshness before bringing it to my intended destination. Their ready to eat pies would only last for a few days in the fridge or on the counter, depending on the type of pie, and losing one day would have made a big difference. I don't like to argue since I was recently highlighted as an Elite who embodies Yelp's value of "play well with others", and they clearly didn't play well with me, especially since the fine print didn't spell out a stipulation that would disallow for bake-at-home pies. Wait, didn't something similar happen last time as well? Oh yeah! Danna, the server on my last visit, initially said that a King Edward's Club sandwich wouldn't qualify for a $5 burger/sandwich combo even though the fine print didn't spell out that stipulation. And with management at the Long Beach location becoming even more incompetent at their jobs, I really shouldn't be surprised at their made-up rule about the free whole pie being only allowed for ready to eat pies. As an epilogue, I revisited the Los Alamitos location to redeem the free whole pie, and there, I met one of the loveliest employees that the entire Long Beach team should really learn customer service from. She was happy enough to make the free whole pie reward work on a bake-at-home pie and even egg wash it to boot. That was the best of Polly's Pies. This was the worst of Polly's Pies. A Tale of Two Polly's Pies, not a book by Charles Dickens, unfortunately lol

A fun midweek dinner at Polly's Pies. Went for the Hungry Man's Special. What a deal! It was so worth it! Everything was delicious. The backburner soup was interesting but delicious. Packed our pies to go and cornbread too. We both have meatloaf and salisbury steak leftover for lunch. They seem short staffed but our server was on it tonight and it was a full house too.

We stopped by this Polly Pies on Wednesday their Bingo Night, this location is much smaller than the other ones we have visited before. Even though it's small, I would say it was still difficult to get an order taken and get the attention of our waiter. We got the Salisbury steak, tuna, salad sandwich, and a couple slices of pie. All the food was up to par. I really enjoyed trying the strawberry lemonade pie. I've never had it before and was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't too tart or sweet and came with a lot of whipped cream. We also got the banana cream pie, which is one of our favorites and the custard pie. In terms of their bingo night, I think they did a great job of keeping the crowd engaged with trivia and random facts about the day and pop culture. I also feel like there was a pretty good variety with the prizes, which include included brownies, bread, pies, and cookies.

Greasy omelet with greasy potatoes and dry muffin

The breakfast omelet and hash browns were sitting in a pool of oil. The bran muffins were all that were left, for good reason. It was dry and tasteless. The server was in such a hurry to clear the seat that I was not offered a refill on my cold coffee and once the food was set in front of me, I didn't see him again until he slapped the bill on ghe counter next to me. I told him the muffin was dry and he shrugged his shoulders. Granted, it was a holiday, but I don't expect to go back. Ever.

This location seems a little more vintage and much cozier. We were lucky to make it in time for bingo night too. Gets quite crowded here with patrons. It's a bit small here but does not feel cramped at all Love Polly's menu. Their recipes are consistent along locations too which is greatly appreciated. Fruit is so fresh. Bread is baked fresh too. Quality and simplicity They do have parking Bingo is fun here using the paint dot system. It's lively and lots of winners here too

    Prime Rib French Dip

I had been wanting to try this spot for about a decade now and boy was I disappointed! I LOVE diners! As a kid I was all about Carrow's and I drive all the way from Alamitos Beach to Bixby for Bake & Broil, the most superior diner in all of existence! But Polly's was not good at all. When you walk in, it's pretty cute inside. They have their own products for purchase like jams and breads. You're warmly greeted by friendly staff as well. The one positive note was the employees, mainly our server. She was amazing and friendly. However the Prime Rib Dip was not good at all. Very small portions and not tasty. When we left, we saw an Arby's and I told my partner that I wish we had gone there instead as their French Dip is far superior and that's saying something.

Who doesn't live a good pie!? Well I was craving their banana cream pie and all I wanted was a slice. Why did I get this craving the day after Thanksgiving!? They didn't have any. They were also very limited on slices available. But they did have a lively chocolate cream pie. So I buy the pie and share half with my neighbor haha. The server was very friendly and knowledgeable about which slices were available and about when the banana cream pies would be available later that day. Inside was pretty busy with the happy people eating food that looked delicious! Great comfort food place and excellent pie destination too.

I'd always gotten pies from here, but I never ate at one before. We had some business in Bixby Knolls, so we decided to have breakfast here. I was very happy with how nice the place was. A lot of seating inside and out. Parking lot is small, but we found a spot. I kept them simple and had their scrambled eggs, bacon, and potatoes. The eggs were perfect and fluffy, the bacon was very crispy and delicious. The potatoes were OK, but I wish I had had the hashbrowns instead. My partner had the ABC omelette. She was very happy with how good it was and took the rest home. The sourdough bread they gave her looked impressively delicious. It reminded me of the spot in LA that makes bread that big. I always have pancakes and I can never tell whether they are made out of buttermilk or not but these ones were and they were pretty good. The service was also great, so overall I put this place as a go to to drop by for breakfast next time. They have amazing cookies and pies, of course. You can always count on that. Glad to know I have a Polly's pie restaurant so close to home.

    "Comeback" chicken sandwich
    Lawrence K.

Chicken sandwich was terrific--amongst the finer chicken sandwiches I've had in LA. Hits all the right notes--lightly breaded, buttermilk-brined, juicy inside. Fries and apple pie were just ok--not bad, but not the best. Was going to give 4 stars, but I think the chicken alone elevates this to 5 stars.

Stopped for a late lunch! Polly's didn't disappoint. Service was great and food was yummy. I got the club sandwich with fries - good portions and tasty.

Classic American style with pies to droll over. It's a neighborhood classic come here for get together and get me some pies. Not too many restaurants offer pies anymore made in house.

Idk how often they have bingo but today is Wednesday and it was bingo day. Felt like a lot of regulars were there. I would say the food was ok. Nothing mind blowing. I ate and I was content. Decent prices for dinner. I have to come back and see if the breakfast is good. The service was good so I will come back for sure because of that. Very bright inside. I don't know if they have restrooms.

    Pumpkin Dream Slice
    Teira R.

All of the food we ordered here was amazing. The bread and pies are freshly baked and all of the ingredients used tasted fresh. That Pumpkin Dream Slice tasted beyond amazing. We absolutely loved and enjoyed the food. However, our waiter was terrible. It seemed as though he was not good at multitasking, kept forgetting about us, and made us feel like a burden. We had to keep catching him for everything we needed, even to place our order and to pay! The ambiance of the spot however is welcoming and comfy. It's an old school diner serving up comfort food and baked goods. We will return , but hopefully we get a better waiter/waitress.

Trying several items on the menu provided us a nice sampling of what they have to offer. We enjoyed everything we ordered. My favorite was probably the Brussel sprouts as they were cooked to perfection and not sweet like most restaurants serve them. A close 2nd was the chicken parmesan served over zucchini noodles. The final item ordered was a mushroom pasta with shrimp. The shrimp were fantastic with a light char and perfect flavoring. The pasta was good. It was a bit to spicy for me with the chili oil so I only had a small portion. The inside is simple yet inviting with an open layout. They seemed a bit short staffed, but every one was hustling and honestly we were well taken care of. Sad I won't have another opportunity to try more of the menu, but grateful to squeeze in this visit before they close in about a week.

It's warm, flaky, savory and the tomato chili fenell butter complemented very well. For entrees we ordered the grilled branzino, short rib Agnotolli and the truffle pesto lasagna. The Branzino was perfect and the chili crunch herb salad was amazing. The short rib agnotolli was very savory and I loved the robiola bosina. The lasagna was very good and cheesy.

After enduring weeks of record breaking heat in Long Beach, this was the perfect place to land as the Summer Breeze... Makes Me Feel Fineeee again. A very well but gently lit space that still feels cozy and spacious. The outside gives no indication of how well the inside has been designed. Great for lunch or dinner dates. Noise level was low and there's no feeling of a chaotic restaurant environment. Food/Service 1-5: 4.8 I order the shrimp and lobsters fettuccine, bone marrow as an appetizer. My company ordered the lamb burger. All dishes we beautifully plated; true works of art. Neither of us had any complaints about presentation and creativity. As far as taste and as excited as we were to dig in to our food, the ONLY setback was the lack of seasoning mainly salt. I'm aware that a Chef does their best to meet the expectations of their guest. I'm also aware that meeting everyone's expectations is impossible. To confirm my advice of needing some salt in the food I patrons the restaurant twice, two days in a row. The food needs more salt and I stand solid on that opinion. The service was great and I thanked Mel for taking such great care of us. Mel is a rockstar! Diversity score 1-5: 4 The restaurant definitely appeals to diverse crowds. It reminded of the days I frequented Marcus Samuelsson's Red Rooster in Harlem, NY. Go again score 1-5: 5, Absolutely. I do hope I don't have to keep bothering the server for salt and pepper.

If you're looking for a quieter meal, this may not be the best night to visit. The food itself was good, but the wait was much longer than expected. We waited almost 40 minutes for our order. Unfortunately, my burger was also made incorrectly. I ordered the Bacon Bleu Burger but was served a different burger instead. Not quite sure what it was, but it had mushrooms and American cheese. Since we had already waited so long, I decided to just eat it rather than send it back. The burgers were flavorful, but they were smaller than I expected for the price, and they don't come with fries. To round out my meal, I ordered the poutine fries. They were decent. The fries were nice and crispy, which I appreciated. My husband ordered the Burger Don Chendo, and that ended up being the standout of the night. I usually don't like spicy food, but this burger had just the right amount of heat without being overwhelming. Overall, the food was enjoyable, but between the long wait, the incorrect order, and the portion size for the price, the experience was a bit hit-or-miss. I'd be willing to give them another try, especially for the Don Chendo burger, but I'm hoping for a smoother experience next time.

A New Job, A New Milestone & A Chance to Rewrite the Narrative…read more My best friend and I have a tradition of celebrating new jobs with a nice dinner. Since this was her new job and a major milestone, I let her choose the restaurant. She had visited Bo-Beau last year but didn't get the full experience, so this was her chance to rewrite the narrative. And it was truly night and day. I researched the restaurant beforehand and was excited to see that Bo-Beau is part of the Cohn Restaurant Group, which I mostly associate with San Diego and South Orange County. After this experience, I really hope they're here to stay. I noted on our reservation that we were celebrating her new job, and for once, the restaurant actually read the note and acknowledged it. From the moment we walked in, the hospitality was excellent. The hostess welcomed us downstairs, another staff member greeted us when we reached the rooftop, and our server quickly followed up. Then came the surprise: complimentary champagne for both of us. It was such a thoughtful gesture, especially because those little celebratory touches seem to be increasingly rare. Our server was also patient with our questions and attentive throughout the evening without being intrusive. We spent about 2.5 hours enjoying dinner and catching up over: Baked Brie Brussels Sprouts Steak Frites Everything was flavorful, and the entire experience felt relaxed, peaceful, and worth the price point. The food was great, but the hospitality is what earned the 5 stars for me. Real hospitality is paying attention to the guest, recognizing the occasion, and making people feel genuinely welcomed.
