The owner is unbelievably nice! Food was good. If you're at the beach, it's a great deal

I'll try the corn burritos next time but it's hard to come here when it's so expensive of a place. The neighborhood seems safe enough and parking is sometimes an issue, the lot is small but there's room on the street. They do have a restroom around the back of the building you'll need to ask for access to, fairly clean for what it is. The chili fries aren't anything special, the fry's in general are just ok - the burgers are really good though. In all, we'll try a few more dishes but again, pricey to come here so keep that in mind. I'm all for supporting small business over a chain any day of the week.

Several folks…read moreon Facebook's "I Love Corn Burritos" group have opined that these burritos are the best in town. B&J's menu proudly proclaims their corn burritos as "#1 in Ventura County," which is presumably the result of winning some VC Reporter "best of Ventura" reader poll. An order of four corn burritos costs $7.49. They took about 25 minutes to prepare. They are larger in girth than the Fosters Freeze corn burritos, and thus hold more refried beans. Their red sauce is spicy and distinctive with just a little more vinegar than I would consider optimal. Bare bones presentation with sauce and grated cheese and nothing else. Nice paper container (not styrofoam). See pictures. The chocolate shake was also well made and satisfying. This beloved local institution has been here for a couple generations. It's clean, well run and friendly. The owner was kind and friendly to my dog. I'd come back any time. And they have a new location on Main Street in midtown Ventura now.

Slightly embarrassed to say it took me this long to check out Mr. Chubby but so glad I finally did!…read moreI don't typically spend a lot of time near the avenue so I am not super familiar with the restaurants around here, other than the fantastic Love Well, which Mr. Chubby happens to be right next door to! I had to find a spot for a quick lunch in the area today and Mr. Chubby appeared at the top of the list! As I walked in, I was pleased to see a large and easy to navigate menu of the different options. With options for smashburgers, fries, and pattymelts, I quickly decided I would be getting a smashburger combo. Although I am not typically a big bacon person, I was intrigued by the dollar discount offered on the bacon jam smash combo, at $12 that price felt quite reasonable and I also opted to add arugula for an extra 25 cents. The cashier was very friendly and happy to answer any questions I had. He also provided me with a sample of the fresh Agua de Jamaica (hibiscuis iced tea) which was so delicious and I was excited to have this as a drink option, as I do not drink sodas. I took a seat outside at one of the tables, which I will admit are a little bit rickety - they could benefit from some more sturdy tables/chairs without slats in them but they did the job. I enjoyed having the beautiful view of the hills to look at and my order came out quickly. I was immediately impressed with the portion of fries and what appeared to be a beautiful looking burger. I have had some pretty negative smashburger experiences in the area, so it was an absolute delight to pick up this burger and not have the bun be soggy or falling apart - the bun was fluffy, not soggy at all, and did a great job at holding everything together. The ingredients were all incredibly fresh tasting and flavorful and I really enjoyed the bacon jam, even though I don't typically like bacon. It had grilled onions in it and also did not overpower the flavor of the burger. I was also glad that this burger was not overly salty, as has been my experience with some other smashburgers. The fries were also very tasty. I managed to finish everything and was very full after - definitely come hungry! Cannot wait to come back here again and will definitely be recommending Mr. Chubby as the smashburger king of Ventura! Parking can be a bit difficult in the area, depending on the time you come. You may find a spot nearby very quickly or you may have to circle around a bit. Today I was lucky to find a spot right away on the ave.

I had been hearing good things and had the opportunity to come with a friend for dinner and our experience was 5/5. This restaurant is unassuming and easy to miss as they don't have a parking lot so cars are driving by quickly. Yelp helped me find it and social media so thankfully it was already on my radar. I parked across the street on a residential street and walked, no big deal. The name of the restaurant is cute and definitely prepares you for the idea of getting a hefty burger. The interior was orange and eye catching. It's a minimalistic type of decor but definitely felt spacious for a small spot and clean. Welcoming as well. The menus are monitors on the wall so it was easy to view the menu. Fingered id keep it simple with a smash patty melt and shared a fry with my friend. The service and staff here were A+. The gentleman working the register was super personable and welcoming. He was patient with us being that it was our first time. The vibes were good here and I felt that my business was appreciated. The music playing when we came in was classic oldies and created a good wholesome vibe. The food was super delicious and one of the best patty melts I've had in a long time. The bread was perfectly grilled and buttery creating a nice crunch. The burger was good to perception and we loved the combo of the classic slightly gooey American cheese and grilled onions. Fabulous flavors! Classic and done right. The chubby sauce is close to a thousand island and we loved it with the burger. They are also generous when you ask for sides of sauce, we were appreciative. The fries were classic no frills but tasty. We agreed they have good ranch for dipping and honestly this was a simple but super tasty meal. I'm really happy to have found this spot and will definitely come back when I'm on this side of town. Serving up great burgers but also worth noting on the menu we saw a chicken sandwich, hotdogs, and a couple of salad options. I'd highly recommend their patty melt but nice to have some variety if you don't eat burgers. Love a place that's adorable, has tasty food and really nice staff - an easy Yelp 5 stars all day long.

There are no fancy contracts, no drama, and no surprises--just a handshake, a date, and a headcount. I tell Wayne when we're eating and how many mouths we need to feed, and he shows up on time, fully prepared, and ready to deliver. That kind of reliability is rare, and it means everything when you're feeding a large group. The food is consistently excellent, the service is smooth, and the whole operation reflects pride, experience, and family values. You can tell this is a family-owned business that genuinely cares about doing things right. When you find people you can trust completely, you stick with them--and that's exactly why we'll continue to use It's in the Sauce for future reunions. Highly recommended without hesitation.

Very average BBQ…read more.. I'm a self-admitted BBQ purist, impartial to NC BBQ, but have also had some of the best BBQ in TX (Terry Blacks, Goldees, and Franklin), and this is simply not TX BBQ. The restaurant is situated off the beaten path in the business district, but it's impossible to miss with the huge smoker sitting out front. It's a small restaurant with just a few tables and the ordering situation is a bit wonky (just one small window to order and pickup from). The staff was ultra-friendly and the food came out quick. As for the food, it was just okay... The BBQ itself wasn't bad, but it was definitely precut and kept in warmers (this would give a pit master down in TX a myocardial infarction as this is a huge "no no"); the sides were actually really good though. The total was about $30 for lunch, which to me was a bit high based on the quality of the BBQ. Overall... Not bad, not great, but not certainly TX BBQ.
