Slightly embarrassed to say it took me this long to check out Mr. Chubby but so glad I finally did! I don't typically spend a lot of time near the avenue so I am not super familiar with the restaurants around here, other than the fantastic Love Well, which Mr. Chubby happens to be right next door to! I had to find a spot for a quick lunch in the area today and Mr. Chubby appeared at the top of the list! As I walked in, I was pleased to see a large and easy to navigate menu of the different options. With options for smashburgers, fries, and pattymelts, I quickly decided I would be getting a smashburger combo. Although I am not typically a big bacon person, I was intrigued by the dollar discount offered on the bacon jam smash combo, at $12 that price felt quite reasonable and I also opted to add arugula for an extra 25 cents. The cashier was very friendly and happy to answer any questions I had. He also provided me with a sample of the fresh Agua de Jamaica (hibiscuis iced tea) which was so delicious and I was excited to have this as a drink option, as I do not drink sodas. I took a seat outside at one of the tables, which I will admit are a little bit rickety - they could benefit from some more sturdy tables/chairs without slats in them but they did the job. I enjoyed having the beautiful view of the hills to look at and my order came out quickly. I was immediately impressed with the portion of fries and what appeared to be a beautiful looking burger. I have had some pretty negative smashburger experiences in the area, so it was an absolute delight to pick up this burger and not have the bun be soggy or falling apart - the bun was fluffy, not soggy at all, and did a great job at holding everything together. The ingredients were all incredibly fresh tasting and flavorful and I really enjoyed the bacon jam, even though I don't typically like bacon. It had grilled onions in it and also did not overpower the flavor of the burger. I was also glad that this burger was not overly salty, as has been my experience with some other smashburgers. The fries were also very tasty. I managed to finish everything and was very full after - definitely come hungry! Cannot wait to come back here again and will definitely be recommending Mr. Chubby as the smashburger king of Ventura! Parking can be a bit difficult in the area, depending on the time you come. Okay this place is awesome! I love the food, service, and location as there are limited spots on this side of town. I had been hearing good things and had the opportunity to come with a friend for dinner and our experience was 5/5. This restaurant is unassuming and easy to miss as they don't have a parking lot so cars are driving by quickly. Yelp helped me find it and social media so thankfully it was already on my radar. I parked across the street on a residential street and walked, no big deal. The name of the restaurant is cute and definitely prepares you for the idea of getting a hefty burger. The interior was orange and eye catching. It's a minimalistic type of decor but definitely felt spacious for a small spot and clean. Welcoming as well. The menus are monitors on the wall so it was easy to view the menu. Fingered id keep it simple with a smash patty melt and shared a fry with my friend. The service and staff here were A+. The gentleman working the register was super personable and welcoming. He was patient with us being that it was our first time. The vibes were good here and I felt that my business was appreciated. The music playing when we came in was classic oldies and created a good wholesome vibe. The food was super delicious and one of the best patty melts I've had in a long time. The bread was perfectly grilled and buttery creating a nice crunch. The burger was good to perception and we loved the combo of the classic slightly gooey American cheese and grilled onions. Fabulous flavors! Classic and done right. The chubby sauce is close to a thousand island and we loved it with the burger. They are also generous when you ask for sides of sauce, we were appreciative. The fries were classic no frills but tasty. We agreed they have good ranch for dipping and honestly this was a simple but super tasty meal. I'm really happy to have found this spot and will definitely come back when I'm on this side of town. Serving up great burgers but also worth noting on the menu we saw a chicken sandwich, hotdogs, and a couple of salad options. My friend's son worked here and she had been telling me about how delicious their burgers are, so I had to come check it out! It was delicious, the patty alone so amazing and different than regular burger patties! I had their regular fries, but my friend's son had their fancy fries so I got to try those! Those are something fancy alright! Yumm! So much flavor and their portions are so generous. The fries are enough for a whole meal! I also had their Mexican Coca-Cola in s glass bottle and that was exactly what I need it to love this place even more! Their service is excellent! The owner seems like a really nice man and I love that he is their working and managing his business. The restaurant has a couple of small tables that you can push together for a larger party. This is a local spot I was not aware of but am glad I came across it! This is a great spot for burgers and fries! I ordered the mr chubby cheeseburger and fancy fries and boy was I surprised when I tried them. They are a bit more pricier than your usual burger but the portion is great for what they serve. The burgers and fries tasted very fresh and I love their sauce. The arugula is a nice twist to your usual cheeseburger and their pickles are great for making them there! Everything is made to order and you can ask them to hold toppings. Since burgers are made to order, you will wait more than at In N Out. Just understand this is small owned and not 5 minute fast food joint. Clean place. Service was ok. Not the friendliest, as a new place I wished they be more into explaining their menu. It's great to explore new burger spots in the 805. Especially when they make some delicious smash style burgers like they do here. I got the Patty Melt smash burger combo and it was great! The meat, onions, cheese were on point, but the chubby sauce took it to another level. It's like the Mac sauce or Secret sauce but with its own distinctive flavor. So good! Even better is they have the Mr. Chubby Fancy fries that is drenched with the chubby sauce, cheese and bacon! Yup that's right, bacon! My son loves burger and fries so it was an automatic thumbs up for him. Plenty of seating inside or outside. And the restaurant was clean and tidy. Comparing this burger to what you would find in LA county makes it a hard sell. The burger has a great construction but the smashed patty itself lacks flavor/seasoning. It seems like it was only seared on one side losing all of the classic texture I normally expect. Pulling the edges off the patty and tasting the beef leaves a lot to be desired and it's reflected in the whole burger experience. The bun and cheese are the star of the show with the light zest from the tomato coming through after. The fries are nice and crispy and go well with the ranch they provide. The interior has an old school feel and is quite neat and clean. Service was simple and to the point. This is a soft 3 and is mainly carried by the fries. The patty needs work and because of that I would be reluctant to visit or recommend as the flavor did not reflect the Yelp score. read more

If you like a smash burger this is the spot. Let me say I am not a big burger fan, but these will make anyone a burger lover. I especially enjoyed the fresh arugula and brioche bun. Next to Lovewell, Mr. Chubby makes a nice addition to the area. Don't skip the fries either! I ordered a single burger and was pleasantly surprised by the quality and quantity. I got the double patty on white bread and it was good. Fries were cold but I like how they tasted. The salsa and pickles were A1. Service at the front was slow, also took us about 30 minutes to get our food. They could do better. And they have a small drink selection I think fountain drinks would work better in their favor. Most importantly though, the char on the burger must be right, char, seasoning, and the bun to meat ratio as well. Your bun is not the right size for the patty and also, it is of the poorest quality brioche.. Far too much bun. Mushy inedible tomato and arugula don't belong. And last but not least, the french fries portion, six dollars for a handful of fries. You should be ashamed of yourselves. A better name for the restaurant would be BBB, big bun burger. read more
