Poppy's is always really delightful. The food is consistently good and the servers are always very personable and efficient. Sadly they have changed their business hours and are no longer open for lunch, which is a big disappointment to us. Had dinner here on a Friday night around 6:00 with a friend. We were seated pretty quickly and the ambience in the restaurant is so nice! We started with a bottle of Pinot (our waitress helped pick it out) and it was very good. We both ordered chicken Parmesan for dinner, however my friend requested to have fettuccine Alfredo with the chicken Parmesan instead of typical spaghetti and red sauce. Our meals came with a salad and bread. The food was AMAZING and the portions were huge. Additionally, our server was very attentive and helpful as it was our first time dining here. Excellent service, average food. We went with another couple on a weekend near the end of the early bird special (before 530). We had a res and were seated promptly. The place looked quite busy as the early bird special is a decent deal. Waiter was very good to help us get order in before early bird ended. My wife had scarparella-a Mediterranean pasta dish with white sauce chicken, sausage and veggies. I had lasagna. We had pasta fagule as a starter soup. Soup wasn't that good. My wife and I both liked our dinners. Lasagna wasn't the best I've had, but was still pretty good. Portions for early bird are supposed to be smaller, but they seemed ample to me. I'd suggest you get the bread w/o the garlic butter drizzled over it--it was good, but pretty messy. Dinner came with a small glass of wine, which was nice. My significant other and I went to dinner with another couple and they ordered four appetizers for them and then when the bill came out the waiter put the appetizers on our tab when we did not order them. He never asked whose tab to charge the appetizers to, I just think that is something you should always ask, especially since we were not the ones who ordered the appetizers in the first place. There's not much in the saint johns area but we were craving Italian and it was the closest one to our home. We had tried another Italian restaurant and we were not impressed but this place.....sooo good! The sent out a complimentary garlic oiled bread which was too strong on the garlic as it had that slight burning garlic taste not my cup of tee but if you like a lot of garlic you might enjoy it. We ordered rigatoni allá vodka and requested to add a crusted chicken, which is not on the menu the chef was just kind enough to accept my request and OMGSH!!!! So freaking good!!!! My husband ordered chicken parmigiana and he almost cleaned his plate mind you the serving size is pretty large, it's the next days lunch. The drink I got was really good as well just don't remember the name exactly what I was looking for! The service was good too! All in all it was really good and we will be back for sure!! read more

Very cute atmosphere - we opted to sit outside on the patio since we had kids with us and it was a half hour wait for indoors. We sat down around 5:20. We were waiting a while, and the server came out. It was our first time here and we saw an early bird special on the menu where if you came before 5:30, you could order off of it at discounted prices. We ask the server about the early bird special and he proceeds to check his phone and says "oh it's 5:31 sorry it won't let me do it anymore". No apologies, no effort to use some common sense and ask the manager if we could still get the discount. WE were at our table well before 5:30. Caesar salad and garlic bread was delicious. I ordered the chicken piccatta and should have asked for it over angel hair or spaghetti pasta. Most of their dishes come with this creamy risotto, which is fine, but sometimes competed with the flavor of the rest of the entree. Overall it was fine but I was turned off by paying way more than i should have. read more

First, I want to compliment the waiter, Johnny. He was GREAT! I had a glass of wine and it was a decent pour. MIL had a Manhattan. She said it was very good. The bread is amazing and HUGE! Covered in garlic and butter. I had the Maui fish with spinach risotto. It was very good and a generous serving. My MIL had the pork osso bucco and it was so tender and delicious and the flavor was incredible. I can't wait to go back so I can order it. My husband and FIL had manicotti and chicken Parmesan respectively. They both agreed their dishes were wonderful. This place is not huge but it stays packed because the food is very good and authentic. My only drawback for this restaurant is that it is so compact that the noise level is pretty high. Makes it hard to have conversations without raising your voice a little. But, because the service is GREAT and the food is even better, we will be back. They do have outside seating so maybe it is better out there but with summer coming that may not be a good choice. read more

The food is very good and worth the visit. Prices are not out of the normal range for this type restaurant either as the portions are solid.

We sat at the bar and McKenzie was our server. We weren't very hungry so we both got appetizers. I had the mussels in white sauce and my husband ordered fried green tomatoes. Both were delicious! McKenzie was a personable young lady and we enjoyed her company so much, that when we looked at the desserts, we told her maybe next time, because she had been our dessert for this visit! read more

What a great place! Because there was a long wait for an inside table (it's very small inside), we opted to sit on the patio and enjoy the nice breeze while having dinner. The wine selection was good and the menu choices are pretty extensive. It was hard to choose what to have! We started with the bruschetta which was a meal in itself. For our dinner, we went with the spaghetti and meatballs and the pasta combo. Both were super large portions and tasted absolutely fabulous. I was hoping for a great experience due to the high reviews on here but was disappointed from the start. when we walked through the door, there was no greeting by the hostess. When we got to our table, it was 15 minutes before we were asked about drinks and was rushed doing so. (again, not greeted by our waiter J.R., we only found out his name from the check he just put on the table and didn't say anything.) The whole atmosphere was off. definitely don't drink the water. Again we were rushed with our order even though I'm pretty sure we were his only table. I had ordered the veggie primavera with shrimp, and got red sauce instead of garlic & olive oil which who put the option of red sauce on the menu for primavera anyways? Being in the industry I have never heard of such a thing. Red sauce was very sweet. Italian wedding soup, bread and the company was the good thing about this night. Should of just went to Olive Garden. Not to mention a 6 top was left with empty drinks and no plates while their server was talking to the hostess for 20 minutes. please work on your service and go back to training. Well we were looking for Italian and since we have never been there yet decided to give it a try...... We came in for a weeknight dinner with our three year old daughter. When we arrived we were greeted and sat and then greeted again soon after by our waiter. I ordered my drink and my husband took a minute to look. When the waiter asked about appetizers I told him I didn't think so but I saw some sort of bread on all the online reviews and asked him if there is any bread we get or is that something ordered separately. He said it was the blooming bread and we went ahead and put the order in. When my husband went to place his drink order he asked the waiter for a price range on an old fashion and the waiter told us he did not know, so he just went ahead and ordered one. Once we placed our dinner order, the bread came out and realized it didn't look like the photos. I asked the waiter about the bread and his response was "yea i can get you more bread" then comes back out with the bread I had seen and just then realized bread comes with the dinner plates! As we are starting to eat a table behind us is sat with another family of three. Their waiter comes to greet them and as he speaks me and my husband are just floored at the different experience we were getting compared to this family. Their waiter not only greeted them, he asked if it was their first time, explained a little about the restaurant and food, explained all the specials, including that all dinner plates come with a side salad or soup as well as bread with garlic and could also put the garlic on the side if needed. He then went on to explain a few other food items WITH upgraded prices and just lots of details on what to expect. Pretty much everything we needed and wanted to know on our first visit there too. Instead we ended up wasting our money ordering something extra that we were already getting. Then the food came out. I wasn't expecting a lot but definitely better than what we got for an Italian restaurant since that's what we genuinely wanted and why we came. I ordered the fettuccini alfr5redo and I love just about all alfredo sauces and this one wasn't terrible but it wasn't at all good. It almost had an oily film kind of taste to it. My husband ordered the Chicken marsala and took two bites then compared the marsala taste to the "Banquet" microwave dinners with gravy. He took a few more bits before packing it up to take home for lunch the next day. So at this point we are not impressed with the food at all and quite annoyed about spending extra money because of the waiter. Well the next day my husband takes his out for lunch and goes to cut the chicken in half and finds that it was not cooked thoroughly and was still raw on the inside! I finally got to try the new Poppy's and it did not disappoint. We ordered it as take out. The food was ready on time. The order was 100% correct (which is rare in these parts). The portions are huge so it is well worth the money. And....it is so good. We've ordered from there twice already and the food was hot and delicious both times. The bread is amazing. The "garlic" bread is not your usual "pepperridge farms"garlic bread. It is their bread with olive oil, garlic and spices with parm cheese. A little messy; I may ask for the "sauce" on the side next time, but it was awesome. I'm pretty sure the re-opened Napoli's has lost a customer because Poppy's will be my go-to place going forward.
