You have to really stumble into this by chance to find it. Google/Apple Maps is just smothered by so many good pizzerias in Manhattan. Pop's is also smacked right in the middle of the business district, it seems very unassuming to find just a diamond in the rough. The price of a plain slice is competitive. However, it wasn't super hot just warm and I think if they heated it up again right before serving it would've tasted better but since it was fresh I think they didn't and assumed it would be hot since we saw them heat other pizzas lol. Pop's Pizza was ok. It's really more of a takeout or eat on the street type of place. The staff wasn't very welcoming. No greeting, just very transactional, not really friendly. Excited to discover this "hole in the wall" Pop's Pizza, around the corner from Columbus Circle. The slice looked great and size for $3 bucks in this neighborhood was a good deal. My fresh basic slice came out quickly. That being said, while the crust was excellent for a classic New York slice, the rest disappointed with barely any flavor - possibly only faintly of cheese. (Perhaps just a bit more sauce or seasonings in the sauce would help!) Really good pizza spot that was near where I was staying. Highlight for me was the cheese slice as it was delicious despite its simplicity. Great chew on the crust as well. I also got the buffalo chicken which was also pretty good if you're into that type of slice. Finally I also ordered the pepperoni square slice which was okay. While the crust was good, I felt the dough to sauce/cheese ratio was a bit too much on the dough side. For me I'd stick to the slices. Definitely will be back next time I'm in the area! read more

I was visiting a friend up near the park and I was hungry and wanted to grab some pizza. He had recommended this place because he said it was fast and I've never heard of it. It's a very small spot with a walk up counter. There was a little bit of aligned and really, no space in the place. The workers are super fast and they are pumping out a lot of pizza in here. They did have a lot of different varieties, but I just went with the pepperoni and the cheese slices. The cheese slice was three dollars, which is not terrible for New York City at all. Wanted some quick slices of pizza & made a stop here. I chose cheese, meat lover, and bbq chicken for slices and garlic knots. The inside is small- there's slough space to look at the pizzas and order at the counter. If you want to eat they have a standing table outside or take it to go. Goals are to do a pizza trip of New York. Let's compare all the pizza windows and figure out which one is best. This could take a while. Now keep in a mind there are a lot of posers out there in pizza window world. Hot take but If they have to advertise their pizza deal (2 slices + soda = $6), they are probably not the best pizza in New York. Our first find on the first day was Pops Pizza. It's off 7th/57th street next to a dry cleaner. There is construction going on at the moment but don't let that deter you. Pops takes cash or card. They have a variety of pizza options. We got the jalapeño & pepperoni along with the margherita pizza. They warm it up and put in a box for us. Seasonings are all outside with garlic, crushed red pepper and Parmesan. You can easily walk to Central Park from here and enjoy your slice. Walking to Central Park gave us the perfect amount of time to let the pizza cool off a bit. We found q seat in the lawn and had our slices. It had a floppier crust, but the sauce and the toppings were well worth it. Even the crust was great to finish. Does this taste better in Central Park? probably. Does this pizza rank as one of the best, in my opinion yes. The variety, ability to take credit cards and proximity to Central Park let it take the cake. read more

You may not see something uniquely exceptional about them at first glance, but their fundamentals are as solid as anywhere and once you actually go you'll appreciate how delicious it is. Their crust has a perfect tender yet structured texture. Their toppings are familiar yet paired intelligently with some combinations I don't often see elsewhere (peperoni-jalapeño and mushroom-spinach are two favorites). Their sauce is good (and crucially not too sweet), and the service is quick, easy, and pleasant. If you're looking for lunch or dinner on the go anywhere in the upper 50s on the west side give pop's a try, you won't be disappointed. I felt so bad when I called to see if they sold by the slice. I tried to find info on it on Yelp but struggled seeing any new information about it. So alas, I went there for science and to try this place out. Walking distance from our hotel, it took just a few minutes to get there. They had so many options for by the slice and settled on 4 different ones. Honestly, enjoyed every single slice with the spinach one coming in as our favorites.
