Stopped by for a slice in the afternoon. The crust is super crispy and light and the meatball topping was quite generous. Not too thick with cheese either, so didn't feel super heavy eating it. The meatballs were a nice addition for some extra flavor but the star is the crust. I ate it while walking - not soggy at all and very easy to eat on the go. I didn't walk into the dining area in the back, but the front counter area is pretty narrow. Prices are slightly cheaper with cash than credit, though not by much. I've been to Saco's Pizza several times, and I agree with everyone who says the pizza is good. Unfortunately, good pizza doesn't excuse terrible customer service. Today I stopped in for a slice and asked if I could use the restroom. No problem. When I came back, my pizza was ready, and I asked if they could put some barbecue sauce on top. The employee told me it would be an extra $1. I jokingly said, "One dollar just to put it on top?" I wasn't arguing about the price. I was surprised because I wasn't asking for a container to take home, just a drizzle on a slice. Instead of responding politely, the employee immediately became rude and said, "Everything you have to pay." I laughed and said, "Wow, I'm not even taking it home." His response was, "If you don't like it, don't take the barbecue." Then another employee jumped into the conversation and said, "I already let you use the bathroom," as if allowing a paying customer to use the restroom was some special privilege. As I was leaving, another employee told me, "Then don't come back." And that's exactly what I won't do. The extra dollar was never the issue. The issue was the attitude. I work in hospitality myself, and I know customer service costs nothing. A simple, friendly explanation would have been enough. New Yorkers are known for being direct, but there's a difference between being direct and being rude. The pizza is good, but there are plenty of places with good pizza and people who know how to treat customers with basic respect. I was so disappointed by the interaction that I lost my appetite and threw the pizza away. If you're visiting because you've heard about the pizza, just know that the food may be great, but the service was one of the worst experiences I've had in a long time. There are also plenty of pizza places nearby where a slice costs around $1 and the people are polite. Here, the pizza was $5, it still came out cold, and when I mentioned it, I was told to "heat it up at home." I'm not your personal chef, and that's not what I expect when I'm paying for food that's supposed to be served ready to eat. read more

Sacco's is the type of pizza joint I grew up with. Not particularly big, with a window where you can order a slice from outside and a menu that listed a ton of items that you could mix and match into a slice or pie of your choice. The staff is not particularly friendly, nor are they rude. They're there to do a job and they do it well and efficiently. I ordered a slice with mushrooms on a plate to eat while I walked, and I will say this is a solid B+ slice. The crust was a nice thickness that was able to handle a fold without any of the cheese and mushrooms falling off. The crust edge was a good size to hold the slice and tasted great on its own. I liked the sauce, which leaned towards savory vs sweet and the cheese had a nice flavor and chew. One of the hallmarks of a good slice (in my book) is the ability to eat it while walking and this one held up perfectly. I'd definitely stop by Sacco's again if I'm nearby.
