No matter how hard I stress dairy allergy (no cheese on the burgers) they almost always get it wrong and it as at the bottom of the sack where I can't check it in the drive thru. I was driving back from California and stopped at this location since it was on my way home and they were closing soon. I live close to the North Scottsdale location. CON: I normally get excellent quality food from Portillo's. Today was a different day. The beef on my Big Beef and Italian beef was so bad, they had to be thrown away because they tasted so bad. At first I thought it was just me, but when my mother in law brought her plate back to the kitchen she was enraged and threw her Big Beef away. She said that it tasted old and stale. I agreed and called the store. There were lots of prompts, but when I finally got in the correct queue the line disconnected. So instead of calling them repeatedly like I have done in the past when items are missing from my bag, I decided to post a review to let everyone know my last visit. I have given them tons of chances because I am from Chicago and I missed it from back home, but this was and still is ridiculous. I don't want a refund or a replacement, I'm just down. P.S. Nothing to complain about regarding the food. Our chili dogs were the bomb. What's the trouble you ask? That diner needs a REAL deep clean. My wife pointed out the floors and they looked disgusting. Whoever owns that franchise might want to take a look and see if they agree. The floors were gross. (I just gave away my age group, gross). Anyway cleanliness is important to us. I stopped in for the first time today. It's a cute little restaurant. Kind of gives you the retro diner feel. And it's really big on the inside. You go and order your food and then they'll call your number, you pick it up and select a table or a booth. I ordered their chopped salad without cheese. I tried their house dressing, definitely meh and their Ranch, they call it farmhouse Ranch, is really not good. The salad is a good size, the majority of it is lettuce. I wish there was something crispy in it. The bacon definitely was not crispy, I did like the pasta, but there really wasn't much of that either. Sadly, there really wasn't a whole heck of a lot of flavor even from their bacon I did try eating it with their house dressing and then their ranch, but didn't like either one of them, so I just packed it up. I'll add my own stuff at home . I can't eat cheese, so maybe that was it. However, there were so many people in there. They may be much better at doing burgers, or something like that, but the salad at the price of 12 bucks is a Hard No for me. read more

I ordered a chili cheese dog with onions, my partner got the traditional dog and we ordered an order of fries and onion rings to share, another friend with us ordered the white fish sandwich. My chili cheese dog was very good! Perfect size (regular) great tasting chili and perfectly cheesy, the dog was moist and delicious A+ my partner's hotdog was good as well (as he put it) onion rings? DISASTER burned beyond belief.....there is crispy and there is burnt crispy! Which is what ours were we had to dig into the pouch to find a slightly brown one as opposed to a dark brown one. Fries were dry and underwhelming. The fish sandwich was saturated with tarter/mayonnaise sauce that made it a bit moist. I don't know why I haven't gotten this before? My first bite was that familiar snap of the dog. Second bite was all the other deliciousness this hot dog holds. It just works in harmony. Topping this off was onion rings. Crisp and not greasy. Husband got his usual Italian beef. Always good! Restaurant always clean and staff friendly. It wasn't a good idea to get this place for takeout because by the time I got home my bread was so soggy it was just so gross to even try to eat it so I ended up eating just the meat. Was in town and was so excited to get portillos. First of all, they took too long for our order. People that came and ordered after us got there food! We waited so long for our food! So long we had to talk to the manager! Once we got our food they messed up majority of it by making our chicken sandwich wrong and forgetting some of our fries. We highly recommend Portillo's. They have an option for everyone in your hungry crew. We had the Char-Broiled Burger, Spicy Chicken Sandwich, fries and shakes. Everything was freshly made and tasted AMAZING! The staff is very friendly and helpful. The gentleman in charge of turning the dinning area was fantastic, not a single person had to wait for a place to sit and eat. It was a very busy day too. As a child I use to spend my summers, and winters in Illinois, and Wisconsin almost ever other day I would eat Italian beef sandwiches. When I would return to California I could never find anything even close. When I finally arrived in the parking lot blasted out of my mind I was truly blown away from by the building structure. I was quickly greeted by a very nice cashier (Forgot her name, Sorry!). With all the options it was really hard to decide what to get first. So of course I started with with Italian beef dipped twice, and extra giardiniera. This brought back so many memories of the Windy City, with my aunts and uncles. Once I finished my sandwich I stepped out to fire up my last joint as I needed some fresh air. While having some second thoughts in the parking lot about when I will get another chance to have one these delicious Italian beef I walked back in and was greeted again by the same cashier. I was disappointed that Portillo's was your ordinary fast food joint. Seeing cars lined up and waiting made me think it was something special and different. Ordered the Chicago dog and fries. The dog itself was rubbery. The bun was sort of "smooshed" The idea of two sliced tomatoes on top of hot dog, as opposed to diced tomatoes didn't make any sense to me.
