This was my favorite restaurant when I lived here in 2005/2006, and was thrilled to see it is still open and serving nearly the same (limited) menu! Hubby loved the chicken and veg potpie (big enough for two to share but a grown adult man finished it all). I wanted to try the root vegetable vegetarian potpie but ultimately went with the mussels since I loved them so much all those years ago. The restaurant is tiny, busy and loud so make a reservation AND request a table along the wall. Some nice folks at the table next to us were raving about the desserts but we were too full. I'm trying to support local where we can during Covid-19, so why not hit play on the 'Greatest Hits' in KC? Potpie has always been a clutch date night spot for my wife and I, and while we missed the cozy interior, the curbside takeout option worked surprisingly well. This is a down home spot with some rib-sticking dinner options; hearty pot pies, crispy chicken over a massive bed of mashed potatoes, warm, chocolate chip bread pudding.. All as good as they sound. While the menu might feel a bit limited, they nail each and every item on it. I have a hard time straying from the crispy chicken; it's so juicy, the skin is in fact crispy, and I don't know what magic goes into the mashed potatoes but they're some of the best I've ever had. Be warned, you will be beyond full if you finish this which of course I did. The warm bread pudding is also insane. It comes with a Creme Anglaise to drench it in, and it's like five pastries crammed into one dessert. Very rich, very delicious. If you get it curbside like we did, it makes for a round 2 of dessert at another time. As of writing this, they do Friday and Saturday curbside orders, 3-7 p.m. You order and pay over the phone, set a pick up time and roll up curbside. They'll come check in with you and have your food out in short order. For takeout, we know things like Chinese, Thai, Indian, etc. tend to travel well, and I was a tad skeptical on this, but it did indeed travel. It was as delicious as the past times in the restaurant. We had a great time here at PotPie. Started off with steamed mussels and the goat cheese salad which were both 10/10. Probably could have stopped there, both these items with some bread were delicious. Since we were here for the first t we both got a pot pie. They were both good but the filling lacked substance. Not a lot of meat or mushroom in mine. The chicken was better and a bit more hardy. Luckily by this point we were both completely stuffed and didn't save room for the bread pudding. Would try the pan seared chicken next time and skip the beef pot pie. read more

Guys. I can't even with this place. I have only been once before and I'm kicking myself for waiting so long to come back. Everything from the greeting when we walked in, to the chocolate chip bread pudding to end the night, was perfect. We couldn't have chosen a better place to spend Valentine's Day or a better meal to leave us smiling. I got the crispy shrimp to start the night and I honestly could have just had those for dinner, they were amazing and a great portion! We also got the Brie tart to try and it was also phenomenal! For dinner I ordered the scallops which were cooked perfectly and the truffle risotto was to die for. The chicken pot pie came out flaky and bubbly and the flavor was incredible. Our first time here for dinner last night.. We were down in the Westport area trying to figure out what to eat, and we stumbled across this quaint and inviting place. Upon walking in, we were greeted by the sweetest waitress. This place isn't big, but was able to accommodate us with a stroller. When you first walk in, to your right is a bar with bar seatings. To your left is more table seatings. They do have 3 tables right next to the window. If you're coming here on the weekends, make reservations. The whole menu was written out on a big chalkboard located in the back of the restaurant. I would recommend you take a picture of it first, and then make your selection at your table. We ordered an espresso martini (very strong!), beef pot pie (hearty, flaky, and so yummy), and a chicken pot pie (flavorful, flaky, and delicious). It was so good that we ordered another pot pie to go. The employees were so friendly and nice! All in all, I would def come here again and try more from the menu. An unique restaurant that does not lack on taste. Potpie is not the typical restaurant that catches my eye when looking for somewhere new to try, but I am glad I did. Several of my friends recommended the restaurant to me, saying that it is a staple in KC and can't be missed. The restaurant itself is a nice small cozy place next to my least favorite intersection in KC. Street parking can be a little tricky especially around peak hours. The interior was small but held a surprising amount of people. Our waitress was very polite and got our orders out quickly. I ordered the pan roasted chicken and my friends got the beef Potpie. The chicken was cooked perfectly and tasted just like home cooking. The Potpie also was a lot bigger than expected and looked absolutes amazing. Definitely what I will go for next time. Overall it's a restaurant that checks all of the boxes, but may not be for everyone. They definitely do their namesake justice! read more

Pot Pie is a bistro, with maybe a dozen small tables and a few seats at the bar, that exudes warmth and charm. In my imagination Paris has a place like this on every block, but in our KC, restaurants such as this - unpretentious and yet excellent - have to be sought. Food is fresh, relatively simple but thoughtful, and clearly the product of care, culinary skill, and a particular vision. Service is welcoming and efficient. Restaurants such as this deserve praise because of their character, offering something not available in every strip mall in every city. There's always a silver lining. EI wish my fiancé and I could have enjoyed a romantic dinner at Potpie because it has such a cozy atmosphere. However, we have personally been only doing carry out or eating out at outside patios. It was a crisp, fall day so we decided to take our meal to go and have a lovely meal on the Nelson lawn. Whether you're eating at Potpie or doing take out, I 10/10 recommend food from here. We split an appetizer, Crispy Shrimp, and a pot pie and was perfect portions for us. The thai chili aioli was the perfect sauce to dip the crispy yet light, juicy shrimp. The potpie was crispy and hot even after 15 minutes by the time we got to the Nelson. It warms your heart and your soul. I'm not a huge crust fan, but the flakiness and comforting filling is all you need on a cool or cold day in KC! On a frigid Kansas City night, I made my first visit to PotPie. It's been almost two years since some fellow foodies told me about this place. It's located next door to Bluestem, one of our favorites, on Westport Road. As someone who loves to eat pot pies, I can't believe I haven't dined here before. The restaurant's name is a bit of a misnomer as they have only two pot pies on the menu. And even more surprising, when the restaurant first opened, they didn't serve pot pies. We were promptly seated for our 6:30pm reservation, and probably joined another eight to ten diners already seated. The restaurant's menu is on a large chalkboard. By the time we left two hours later, the place was packed. According to Google, PotPie is a bistro serving American & French comfort food in a cozy, bare-brick dining room. I think that nails it. We started with the Steamed Mussels which were perfectly prepared with white wine and butter. The bread that comes with it is ideal for soaking up the broth in the serving bowl. Given the chill outside, I ordered the Curried Sweet Potato Bisque which was unlike anything I had before. Rich and creamy. I opted for my first meal to skip the pot pies. Instead, I had the massive Grilled Pork Chop, which was served with Potato-Leek Gratin and Dijon Demi. For the dessert, the table ordered the Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding. It came out piping hot, like a souffle. After watching another table order the pot pie, I probably would split it with someone. It was huge with a massive crust that extended beyond the cooking dish. Great craft cocktails to boot. And they come out quick! There was absolutely nothing I'd change about this dining experience. Can't wait to return! read more

Fan freakin tastic! I have been to Potpie many times with friends. Tonight I came solo and left with 3 new friends to my credit. The atmosphere is warm and cozy. The food is, to my mind, classic comfort recipes with a elegant twist. Everyone is comfortable and tonight there was some Marvin Gaye playing in the background. You can enjoy your conversations at Potpie. So I was sitting at the bar and talking to Victor that is the owner, or one of the owners, I never knew that until I got ready to leave and asked. Age shared the cocktail menu and some mixology ideas and I have to say that they are right on time. This man knows his ingredients. Some of them I had not seen before. The menu is on a big chalk board on the wall. The menu rotates by the week and I guess seasonally. Scallops, pork chops and steak were on the menu alongside salmon and of course pot pies. I have had the salmon and pot pies before and tonight I had the double pork chop. It comes with Brussels sprouts and a gratin that has shallots. It all is otherworldly good. We talked with some other regulars and compared Midwest food towns and fun places. I think we all agreed KC is up there with Chicago in foodie-ness. My appetizer was a Brie and spinach tart. It was awesome. The pork chop was HUGE and worthy of the name double, it was a bone in bludgeon of pork cooked to a perfectly juicy medium. This thing was almost 2 inches thick! This is first time I've ever been to a place that specializes in potpies. They, are awesome here. Super tasty, crust is really flaky. It's a quick 'go-to' for us... if anyone even mentions Potpie, it's a guarantee that is where we will land for dinner! Their menu is great, not too big, not too small but excellent selection. From land to sea to vegetarian... they offer it all! Their normal staples always remain on the menu, a potpie option, a salmon option, a chicken option, a beef option and always a vegetarian option. Albeit their menu is ever evolving with sides and options... it only improves with each change! Staff is fantastic! Always smiling faces (even under masks!) and they recognize their return visitors without fail. Wine / drink menu is lovely... always great choices... I wanted to update this during Covid19, they're doing Carry out dinners on Friday and Saturdays evenings. We live about 30 mins away. I placed the order and my husband picked it up on his way home from work. They had it done exactly when they said they would. They had it packed so incredibly well! The pot pie shell was still so flaky and crisp. Not soggy at all. And the skin on the roast chicken was crispy and not greasy or soggy at all for a 30 min ride home. I'm very impressed. Pot pie is a Kansas City staple. My husband and I had a rare date night here last weekend and it was fantastic as always. The tables are socially distanced, with place cards on the tables that are not in use. Masks are worn by employees and we felt very safe dining here! We started with the goat cheese & beet salad (OMG) and my husband got the salmon and I got the chicken Pot pie. 5 stars for both *chefs kiss*. The service was excellent as well. One of my favorites in KC! While the menu is limited, all the dishes are fantastic. Highly recommend the mussels to start or as a meal. They are served in a bowl of broth that I could eat with bread alone. Best mussels in KC. While all the food is great, I constantly turn to their signature dish which is the Potpie . Two options to choose from, beef or chicken, they are baked in the dish that comes to your table, with the crust baked over the rim of the bowl. Both of them have that made from scratch/ home cooked taste. They also have a great bar menu with rotating craft cocktails all running $9. Seating in Potpie is limited, so highly recommend reserving a table. They do have open bar seating, however that only seats 8 and fills up. The place is SMALL inside with little to no waiting room, so take into consideration if not reserving a table and with 2 or more people. Because the place is small, if it is cold outside, recommend keeping a light jacket or sweater handy as it can get drafty inside with all tables being right by the front door. read more
