Buche de Noel - Tiramisu. OMG this was so good! Also.a nice size. Easily nine generous slices! It is suppose to serve six (small size). Beautiful to serve and so delicious to eat! I will never buy a Buche de Noel (Yule Log) anywhere else! Buche de Noel traditionally are rolled cakes and difficult to make. Many are made as a cake ysing a tube for the pan (not rolled). This one is the traditional rolled one! Rolled perfectly! The top was decorated with a Cappuccino straw and chocolate covered espresso beans! Can wait for our next Poulxs creation!

The cake I ordered was amazing! It was too large for my wife and I so she shared the remaining with her colleagues. They loved it, finished it asking for more! The shop itself is quite aesthetic, with tables that have vibrant pink bench seats, perfect for a photo op. Just for context, my wife and I had our wedding in Italy so of course the millefoglie was our wedding cake. To celebrate our first wedding anniversary, I was looking for any Italian bakeries in the OC area that would make this but in a small size. Poul's bakery seemed like the only one and I am so glad I reached out to them. Ayliz, the owner, is super easy to work with and took my order with no problems. If you check out their instagram, @poulsbakeryoc, you will see their impressive 40+ inches millefoglie and of course all their other tasty treats. I highly recommend this place for the food and the vibes!

The best Princess cake I've ever tried. Very moist and not too sweet. The homemade marzipan is so fresh and delicate in taste. This is the Mother's Day cake everybody loved. Very easy to order with friendly staff. Can't wait to try more cake as this one was delicious.

Cute & somewhat romantic place and was recommended by a fellow yelpie. Their website states that they're open from 9am and they have a list of specialty cake to choice from. When I got there at 9:10am, in an industrial areal and parking is quite limited. They do have a patio which they transformed into a romantic sidewalk or patio seating area with an arch entrance. They're open BUT met the owner (lovely once you talked to her that is), and was informed that you have to call in to order the cake (A MUST) and some of the cakes that listed on line (they have NOT UPDATED THEIR WEBSITE for awhile, and I don't think they will). are no longer available and the store is open for pick up only - yup, and mine was one of them, the "carrot cake", which was a huge disappointment BUT since I heard about this place so I placed another one in person plus the cannolis...which is VERY deliciously good, perfectly tasty filling and topping, yum! They shop, per the owner is in transforming into a teatime experience place but at the present time, not yet. They don't have anything available or any display, all are make to order therefore, remember a must CALL AHEAD and see what availability. Mine was able to pick up in 2 hrs, since she asked for how many serving and recommended the size, and all the details in the cake. Is it cheap or reasonable pricing? I got a small cake & 6 cannolis for a total of $67. I would say it's on the high end side BUT WORTH IT. The cake was simply delicious and she makes the filling jam double plus it perfectly sweet, the cake is soft and tasty and it reminded me of the cake I had in Europe. All I can say is YUMMY!

Sorry couldn't take the photo fast enough. The tiramisus was so delicious...and gets the highest compliment any Asian person can give. "It's really good...not too sweet!!" Poul's Bakery is my go to bakery...any time I need sweets I know that they will have something amazing for me to enjoy. Highly recommended.

This place is definitely a MUST try! I ordered a Princess cake for my birthday and it seriously was THE best cake I have ever had! The outer shell is made of marzipan (almond paste) which has similar consistency as fondant, but has an almond like aftertaste which was amazing. The inside is a soft and spongy white cake with a layer of raspberry filling (which had no artificial taste at all) and a layer of vanilla. I can't stress enough how GOOD this cake was. I had to get one for my coworker's birthday as well. The whole office loved the cake and we definitely will purchase from Poul's bakery again.

Pouls very kindly made me a custom "deconstructed" croquembouche to fly with and assemble for our 25th wedding anniversary... it worked out great, looked lovely and tastes delicious. Thanks so much. Photo attached (my assembly a little precarious but it did the trick)

Recommend to pre-order. I did a walk-in just to check it out while I was had an appointment in the area! Luckily, there was some cookies and cannolis for purchase and made to order. Cannolis were AMAZING! This is one of my favorite pastries that is not easy to find and that is good and fresh! A Must try!

Amazing Cannoli Cake! I drove two hours round trip in the rain to pick up this cake and it did not disappoint. Two cakes and two pies at Christmas dinner, and the cannoli cake was devoured. The pies were untouched and the other cake had 1-2 pieces eaten. Cannoli Cake for the win!

I have been coming to this bakery ever since I was a young kid, and it is still my favorite. Poul's is a staple in the OC area and makes delicious pastries. My faves are their Swedish Princess Cake, their Angel Cookies, and their King cake. We just ordered a King cake, and it was warm, flaky, with a rich almond paste, and so rich and tasty. The service here is always great, and they are super responsive. This bakery operates more with pre-order and then pick-up, which I like because everything is always fresh. Their store is super cute inside. Poul's will always be my go to for decadent desserts!

I stumbled across this page on yelp as I was in search of some dessert to bring to a dinner party and let me tell you, Poul's Bakery did not disappoint! The employees helped me decide on just what I needed. I went with a dozen of the mini cannolis and they are piped to order, so it's guaranteed fresh! Not only did the cannolis taste AMAZING, they made sure they looked amazing and replaced one in the box that did not turn out how they wanted to. I even bought some Italian cookies and pastries for myself and you can tell everything here is made with love. My new favorite bakery in OC. I'll be back to try their cannoli cake! Highly recommend if you're looking a place to cater desserts for you, or even for treats for yourself. Place your order ahead of time if you are in a rush (since the cannolis are piped fresh).

The owner Ayliz was quite rude to me over the phone. I called to inquire about wanting to do a custom cake and dessert selection for my baby shower. She kept interrupting me every time I asked questions. I tried to make it easier for her by being as elaborate with what I wanted; sent her pictures for inspo/ideas and she responded saying that I sent her too many pictures and they weren't helpful. So I narrowed it down further for her convenience and she still couldn't give me answers as far as range of pricing was concerned. I kindly told her that I am not familiar with pricing with custom baked goods and if she could at least give me a ballpark price to which she said "You tell us what you want and I'll tell you the price." That's exactly what I was doing by sending her pictures and describing what I wanted. Mind you, I asked these same set of questions from various vendors and sent the same inspo pictures, but never got this kind of response and actually received the answers I was seeking. I thought it was just me but I read several reviews with the same complaint regarding her attitude. Speaking to her alone over the phone deterred me from moving forward with her service and I decided to go with another vendor. She needs to work on her patience, approachability, and professionalism. My daughter's bday party was within this area. After searching for a bakery, I decided to order a customed cake from Paul's Bakery, and I am glad that I did. We received lots of compliments from our guests on how cute and how delicious it was, especially the chocolate with raspberry filling cake. I will definitely order from them again if I decide to throw a party within close proximity of their location. read more

I called to place an order and the woman eho answered was incredibly rude. I saw the other negative reviews regarding poor customer service and I'm shocked this woman is still at it and answering the phone. Get your website fixed so customers can place orders online. read more

This bakery does not take orders if you want less than 6 items. Does not fully state on website their delivery hours and could claim to be open but really no one is there during business hours. They do not have the option to order from the website instead they want you to call and text message them what you would like to order. It is not easy as a customer and I don't recommend this place. read more

Our whole family and any of our guests who enjoy a Poul's Bakery cake LOVE Poul's Bakery!! I found them after searching for a "Princess Cake" (the one with marzipan, cream & jam) for my Birthday and was thrilled to discover how delicious and authentic it was. Then, when it came time for my daughter's 8th Birthday, she asked for a chocolate marzipan cake. I found a recipe online and gave it to their baker who said, "no problem." The cake was phenomenal. Everything tastes so fresh and homemade, and the presentation is perfection. Thank you guys for doing such a great job! read more

I ordered Princess Cake and it was so authentic. I absolutely loved it!! My kids love it and it was really nice to share with them a little piece of my childhood :-). You make it to perfection. It was so balanced and everything a princess cake should be. It was very nostalgic for me. It takes me back to my childhood. Even the Rose on top is so beautifully done. It's absolutely a piece of art that taste as beautiful and delicate as it looks. The ratio between the whipped cream and the cake and the strawberry is just perfection. I've eaten it in the morning with my coffee :-) I eat it at night. It's not too sweet yet it satisfies my sweet tooth. Maybe I should feel guilty eating it but I don't because it's so light and fluffy. I am so glad that I found this bakery. The interior of the bakery is so chic! It makes me feel like I'm in Europe. I love the decor! I know everything is made to order, but I am thinking of having my Mom's bday there. When I walked in I felt like I was somewhere in Europe. All of a sudden I forgot I was in Southern California and in a good Way :-) read more

Happy birthday to my husband! Poorly packed cupcakes. The box was always upright, no sudden turns, stops or take offs in the car. This was just from normal transport movement (see pictures). You can see that the rings were flat on the bottom and not holding the cupcakes so any small movement made them topple over. I was embarrassed to see this in front of our guests. $42 for 6 cupcakes and 10 mini cannoli. read more

Make sure you read the hours on google before you go. Apple Maps gives the wrong hours. We drove over 45 minutes to come here. When I called to see why they are closed the lady said I need to preorder. Then she's like the hours are clearly written on Google maps! My issue was how she just assumed I didn't know how to read! What the heck. Many people use Apple Maps and not Google maps! The owner should be well aware that there are multiple platforms out there. No need to be insensitive on the phone! read more

Poul's bakery is a hidden gem in the middle of the city of Costa Mesa. Eilyz is amazing , The service is above and beyond ... cakes & pastries are from heaven and it reminds me of Paris when I try their pastries. Poul's bakery is personal favorite bakery in all of Orange County. All their desserts and their cakes are absolutely delicious and of the highest quality. The highlight of this place is the Swedish princess cake! Truly the most delicious cake I've ever tasted and the owner Mrs.Ayliz has an excellent recipe that will having coming back for more! Another one of my favorites desserts to get at Pauls are their cannolis! They some of the best I've ever had and beats the vast majority of the ones I've had in the west coast! If you're looking for a bakery that makes artesian desserts of the highest quality then definitely pay this place a visit! read more

Was referred to here for Scandinavian pastries, as the bakery was started by and still bears the name of its Danish immigrant founder. Unfortunately, despite that, there is little to no Scandinavian goods to be found and their European style cakes looked like your generic American renditions of them. The prinsesstårta looked worse than what you would get from a 79 kroner ToGoodToGo at a Norwegian supermarket. Perhaps it was a different place pre-pandemic but if so, that place no longer exists. If you're from the Nordics and looking for a little taste of home, this place will do the exact opposite of that. read more

I have got two cakes from Poul's Bakery. The first cake I bought was my wedding cake. I was looking for my wedding cake so close to my wedding date that we were getting frustrated, not finding one in such a short amount of time. We found Poul's bakery and the owner was very friendly and helpful. She asked me detailed questions to make sure I got the perfect wedding cake. She did an amazing job of delivering my cake on time. My wedding cake was perfect, and the taste was beyond anything imagined. The second cake I got from Poul's Bakery was for my husband's birthday; she did an amazing job designing the cake. He loved his cake and was amazed at the design of the cake. Poul's bakery knows how to give top-notch service. I highly recommend this bakery. I will continue to order my cakes from here. This bakery is owned by a French lady who is a bit stern and not very customer friendly. Overly sweet desserts from what was available to purchase upon walk-in. When you do walk into the establishment, it is a cold environment made to look like a French cafe, but it's set up for party tea rentals. Not sure who would want to have teatime in an industrial location with the blinds closed. Apparently, you have to custom order all desserts and cakes otherwise you won't really know what you're getting in terms of flavor and quality. From what I sampled, it was mostly sugar heavy desserts and not worth the price . read more

Ayliz was an absolutely charm to work with! I needed a custom birthday cake for my girlfriend as we had a party planned just two weeks away; the service that Ayliz provided surpassed my expectations! Canceled my order because the customer service is horrible here. Only accepting payments through Zelle and if you want to pay with a CC it's a $5 add on. Everything is an extra fee- cream cheese frosting, extra. Writing on your cake, extra. Called to pay for my order and the woman who answered was extremely rude to me and told me she was too busy and backed up to process my payment at the moment and that my order wasn't for three week so why was I even calling now. I don't know about you but good cake or not; you have bad customer service and I'm out. This is for my moms birthday and I live in another state so I was trying to cross things off of my to-do list. And maybe if you hadn't spoken to me so rude I probably would have been ok with calling back later. read more

Let me start by saying that I love cakes. Dearly. So when I find great cakes, I try to let the world know! This is the case with Poul's. I photographed a wedding last week, and the bride kindly gave me a giant slice to take home. First, the aesthetics. The cake was beautifully decorated (see attached photo) in a minimalist yet elegant manner. Next, the real test. It was pure heaven! The cake was delectably moist, rich, and flavorful... so much that I will be adding them to my list of recommended local bakeries and will order from them for my next event! read more

Popped by the soft opening and so happy to see that so far the new location of the beloved Orange institution, Poul's looks like a winner! Not quite as big as their old location but full of all the favorites and a nice bright place. Prices are still very fair and the selection already looks great! They are also planning to serve panini's and acai bowls when they are fully open so you can have lunch and a treat after. Service was also great - friendly and helpful. The shopping center has lots of parking which is a nice feature. Definitely worthy of a visit folks! read more

BEST BAKERY IN OC! Disclaimer: It takes a LOT for me to take the time to write a review (I usually forget or don't care enough lol) and I'm pretty fair and reasonable when it comes to them so what I explain is 100% transparent. Here's why: 1. Customer Service: super personable and detailed oriented. Fast responses and honestly it felt like I was talking to family if that makes sense. Ayliz (the owner) was SO sweet and easy to talk to! 2. Taste: I went in blind with no info on them so I took a risk and literally everyone at the party said the cake exceeded their expectations! We got the white cake with Bavarian cream 10/10 recommend! 3. Design: I give Ayliz an A+ on this because I only gave her 48 hours and she was so sweet enough to get it done in less than that time. We ordered a naked cake with red roses on top! Literally a dream! 4. Pricing: VERY reasonable for what I got! Under $100 for what I got. 5. Overall: I will be using Poul's Bakery from now on! 10/10 won't be disappointed! *** tips: they're known for their cannolis so definitely try one ;) Full disclosure: the "thirty" topper (from Amazon) and the light pink roses and fillers were mine but pretty sure they can do the arrangement like the pic! read more

Stopped in after lunch on a whim. The items on the display case didn't look particularly appealing but the friendly owner kept us engaged so we looked around. We found out the cannolis are filled upon order so it was fully customizable. First you select a filling and finally a topping. However during our visit the only filling flavors available were pistachio and cappuccino. So we ordered one of each. It was pricey at over $4 each. However it was tasty. The pistachio had a touch of lemon flavor to it. So despite the cannoli being pistachio cream with pistachio topping the flavor didn't really come through. However great texture. The shell was crispy and the cream very airy. The cappuccino flavor however was very good. Just the right hit of coffee flavor. I would order this particular flavor again. Overall I wouldn't drive out of my way for the dessert here but if in the area I wouldn't mind ordering another cannoli. Hopefully the other flavors will be available. read more

Wow Most horrible cupcakes on the planet. Ruined my best friend's baby shower. Ordered these and picture says a thousand words. These are for presentation for the shower. Ruined just ruined. I shouldve went somewhere I trusted. The box is ruining the frosting horrible execution. Never again. Kenzie not happy. Editing this review to say that they called to offer to replace the cupcakes if I take down the review. I'm on a time schedule for the baby shower so no time and not going to risk. They shouldve inspected the cupcakes. It was super obvious the cupcakes were broken on the edge. Never happened to me before. Disappointed. And please pack your cupcakes more appropriately!!! The cupcakes are too small and the frosting is damaging. read more

Placed a phone order for the smaller $14 cake-- and it really was small. They said it would feed 4 people... more like 2! There was a thick layer of icing and fondant and barely any actual cake. The service was also not up to par. The person working had this hoity-toity attitude, saying things like "we've been in this business for 95 years... we are not a new bakery." She had that attitude until I told her I was looking for a cake for my wedding... then she acted interested in earning my business. No thanks, lady. I wouldn't want your cake even if it WAS yummy - which it wasn't! read more

If you are planning on getting a real Swedish Princess cake DO NOT come here. I don't know why it is advertised as Swedish because it has no resemblance except for the outside look of it. If you're Swedish and want a authentic cake look elsewhere. Very disappointed for such an expensive cake. Mine had cherry flavour in it and buttercream but when I brought this up they claimed it didn't.Even-tough 6 people eating the cake said it was cherry and buttercream. Some might like the cake but it's not made of cream or raspberry so don't think that this is a Swedish Princess cake. You can even tell from the layering how wrong the cake is made. In the pic you can see the difference between a real one and theirs. Very wrongly advertised especially when you're selling to Swedish people. Just say it's a cake don't claim it's a princess cake. read more

The sweetest owner or employee ever. Ayliz! She was super helpful and friendly. I had a last min order and she was able to deliver for me. Best bakery ever. Ordered a custom design cake and everything was perfect from the design, the taste, the service. Everything went so smoothly. I live in LA and my event was in OC, Poul's bakery did all arrangement for me without me having to make an additional trip. They even delivered the cake to the event's place. Highly recommend. I think I found this bakery because of an advertisement on Facebook, and I'm so glad I found this bakery. The cannoli's caught my eye until I saw their Swedish princess cake. I knew I had to have it. Luckily my husband knows when I send him something I want it and he surprised me with this cake for my birthday! It was incredible. I couldn't stop eating it - and my family loved it too. 10/10 on flavor and presentation and my husband said the woman who helped him was great and really nice. Established in 1955.

In 1955 Poul Johansen, an immigrant from Denmark, opened his first bakery in the City of Orange and it quickly became a landmark. Visiting Poul's Bakery became a weekly tradition for many families. Having our famous Swedish Princess Cake as a birthday cake year after year became a common occurrence. "You made my wedding cake 30 years ago!" or "My grandma used to bring me here when I was little" are stories we are still greeted with after all these years. Poul's is a place where clients are greeted by their names. Our baked goods carry so many memories for so many families and we are so grateful to have been part of so many celebrations, generation after generation.

I also appreciated that it didn't feel overly greasy or heavy the way breakfast burritos sometimes do. The space definitely gets crowded, especially on weekends, and finding a seat can take some patience. But honestly, grabbing a coffee and one of these burritos and hanging out for a bit is completely worth it. This is officially one of my go to breakfast spots in Costa Mesa.

l just like to share our experience with Poul's with others , how wonderful this bakery really is, it's very hard to find a baker who is a artistic creating such a wonderful custom cakes their broad imaginations with decorations are remarkable, according to events you are celebrating ,she has so many examples with pictures on Pouls's bakery website , you can choose from one if hers , or , as she has informed us that, if we have seen and like any custom cake, just send them the picture , they will make an exacts copy , but we have choosen one of theirs ,it was very detailed cake my wife picked , and we could just imagine the time and effort they must put into creating it , recreate not only the sculptures but match the colors as well , but at the end Yesss, our sons birthday cake was perfect, he and his friends loved it also we like to mention , they have offered us their own recipe of organic buttercream. and we said yes , it was light and very creamy zesty , also didn overwhelmed the other flavors . give them a try , they wont disappoint you this is our way to send our thank to Poul's bakery , by sharing our great experience with them , with everyone . read more

I usually never write a review. but for years I was looking for a Bakery making real French Style Crepes , I loved the coffee at Kean's which is located in the in same shopping center and friends of mine, Jason told me about this bakery.serving French Crepes and cannoli . I gave it a try, ordered one Cannoli with Walnuts and one Nutella Crepes with banana cinnamon whipped cream , it was Just like the one I tasted in France, called "Princess crepe" in Paris. was delicious, light and good portion. I had an absolutely wonderful experience with Poul's bakery when I ordered a wave-themed cake for my daughter's birthday. Ayliz was so sweet and helpful. The cake was not only a work of art but also tasted incredibly delicious. Everyone at the birthday party enjoyed the delicious cake. The attention to detail was impressive.
