Pretty disappointed coming out of this bike shop. You'd think they would have Niner demos readily available but only had one model on the rack to try out. I think it was RIP. I wanted a new/old SIR hardtail not a dualie, it's not a good sign an authorized dealer doesn't have multiple models available to demo. They didn't even offer if they could bring one in from Niner. The person even said that they MAY have an SIR to try in a demo event?? Wow. Bro I ran out of there as fast as I could. Are hardtails dead or something?? I called the Powat Bike shop at 3:30 on Dec. 22nd asking if they could put training wheels on my grandson's bike and fix a flat tire, tighten up anything that was loose."Sure" Louie said. I took a stroller wheel there earlier in the week after my husband over-inflated and burst the tube (which was probably at end of life anyway). I was very happy that they replaced it on the spot for $15. When the guy gave it back to me, I noticed it was super hard but assumed he knew what he was doing. A couple of days later, I saw that the tube had popped the tire, presumably over-inflated. Took it back in this morning and the guy points out that the wheel has been damaged. He identified it as someone trying to remove the tire using a screwdriver or similar. He said the tire wasn't over-inflated, but the damage to the wheel meant the tire would no longer hold properly. I explained that they're the only people who have touched the tire, other than me and my husband pumping air into it. They completely denied responsibility. No offer to speak with the person who replaced the tube to find out more. Nothing other than utter denial. Wouldn't you think that if it had been damaged when the person replaced the tube they'd have noticed and said something? The problem was picked up immediately when I took it in this morning, so surely a trained professional would have spotted it. But it's my word against theirs. Replacement wheels for this very high end stroller run at almost $200 a set, so it was the most expensive $15 I've ever spent. read more

My rear wheel was dragging and I was ready to have the rear wheel bearings replaced. The attendant there said it would be cheaper to buy a new rear wheel. The attendant also said he could adjust it, so on the spot he took it to the shop and came back with a free rotating and non-dragging rear wheel within 10 minutes. When I asked, 'How much was the adjustment?', the attendant said, "No charge." Based on that, I bought a pair of Pearl Izumi Mountain Biking Shorts. The shop personnel were friendly, very attentive, honest, and they have earned a return customer. Lastly, the three bike mechanics looked very busy, which was a good sign. read more

The store is full of different bikes you can choose from. I had a problem with the brakes and some other minor problems with my bike. April and Tony were super helpful and very friendly regarding the bike. They told us what was wrong and easily fixed the problem right in front of us. My wife and I researched alot of bike places and ended up choosing Poway Bicycle to get our new bikes here b/c the price was competitive but most of all b/c the service was great. Keith listened to what type of riding we were wanting to do and recommended great bikes for both me and my wife - a hybrid bike for her and a mountain bike for me. Keith got the correct frame size for our respective heights (something that they will not and cannot do at Target, Walmart, etc.). Another great benefit of buying from Poway Bicycle or the Bike Shop at Del Sur (another store that opened recently by the same company) is that all bikes come with lifetime maintenance! This gives piece of mind for people like us who are just getting into biking and something happens to the bikes or we just need regular preventative maintenance to keep everything running smoothly. For my wife's bike, she discovered after a week or so that she needed more gears to get around the hills in Rancho Bernardo (this was something that Keith recommended initially, but we thought we wouldn't need). When we told Keith, he told us to bring the bike back and we were able to return that one and get one with more gears and just paid the difference. What great service! For my mountain bike, I had a very unfortunate incident where my bike fell off my roof rack going 80mph on the highway. It tumbled a bunch of times on the road and had some cosmetic damage to it and needed some minor adjustments to get it running smoothly again. Keith and his team adjusted everything for me and got everything running good as new at no extra charge! So not only did my bike survive the fall/tumble without any serious damage to the frame or its components, but they did all the adjustments for free and I ended up just buying a new seat and grips from them. Keith moved to the new location at the Bike Shop at Del Sur, which is a little closer to us than the Poway location so we now go there for our biking needs but the team at Poway is also very experienced and very helpful any time I have gone there. Since then, I have gone back to purchase beefier tires, spare tubes, and more recently bike shoes/pedals to be able to stay on better for mountain biking. I highly recommend Poway Bicycle and the Bike Shop at Del Sur. Don't go cheap and buy a bike from Target. While some of the brands might be the same, the components will be lower quality and may not be replaceable if something breaks. And I would be surprised if most of those bikes would be able to withstand the tumble that my bike took when it flew off the top of my car (Hopefully that never happens to you). I've been on Yelp a handful of times. Every other time it's been when giving out really great review of a service that was provided to me . This is the 1st time I am putting a negative post. I am also in the service business/industry so I empathize with What's going on in the world as far as covid 19. I don't blame the workers there as they are very young I blame the business owner for showing no empathy and having a lack of customer service. After 3 months he offered me another bike That was even more expensive then the $4000 bike that had already purchased. He had me waiting for 3 months just to offer me another bike that would be out of pocket an additional $1000. In my opinion if you're gonna offer that kind of gesture I would at least offer a bike An exchange I would not ask for any additional money this is part of recognizing as a business owner. I am extremely unhappy with this business and this is why I felt passionately about putting in a review they might have great products but their customer service things point blank. I am disappointed with Poway Bicycle shop. I had taken my bike for a rear derailleur and brake adjustment. After I got my bike back, on my third ride the shifter cable became completely loose from the bolt! I ended up completing my ride on the highest gear. Also, the rear brake was not adjusted properly because I needed to pull the brake lever more than one-half to stop. I adjusted the brake myself and realized that Poway Bicycles had failed to put a washer on the bolt, that was on it when I took the bike in. I wanted to try this neighborhood store, but after my bad experience I will never return to Poway Bicycle. My opinion is based on my first hand experience, and I would caution anyone before having Poway Bicycles repair their bikes. read more

Called today to ask if I could bring my Smartmotion Pacer ebike in to check for a scraping noise and a shifting problem. I was expecting to have to leave it for a couple of days. Lucky for me, I was offered prompt "while you wait" service. I had a new adjustable handlebar riser stem installed to give me a more upright riding position. (I'm an older rider.) The tech adjusted my shifters and rear derailleur, and tightened the front light which had come loose. The rear fender was scraping on the tire, and he fixed that, too. I got home and the bike rides so smoothly. I'll be back to buy more accessories and will be upgrading components on another bike at this shop. I'm very pleased with the very knowledgeable and friendly staff here. On one occasion I stopped in to get new road bike tires, expecting to buy cheap wire-bead ones, but the fellow persuaded me to stick with the soft-bead tires I owned already. All of the employees are very helpful and never try to up sell you on something you do not need, and if they don't have it Luis Keith or Aaron will gladly order it for you. I yelped local bicycle shops around the area and decided to give this place a shot, especially since it was nearby my girlfriend's place. Luis and Keith were very helpful with bike info and helping my girlfriend and I make selections. Note we arrived close to closing on a Saturday, but yet they were friendly and welcoming despite having a long day. Even though they had a limited supply of bikes, Luis was able to let me try out a bike that met my budget and fit all the major aspects I was looking for. Also, Luis helped me choose a different bike seat at a decent price. While my girlfriend and I were checking out additional bikes, Luis was kind enough to let my girlfriend's son test drive some bikes. I ended up walking out with two solid bikes. After bringing the bike home and riding it for a little bit, I realized it was a tad bit too tall. I called back and they were kind enough to let me try out another size (54 cm), which was just right; no problems making the trade. That same day, I bought some accessories due to the quality customer service they provided during both visits. I will definitely consider Poway Bicycles for my future bicycle needs, and definitely recommend it to others (especially around the area) because of their helpful attitudes and friendly demeanor. read more

I walked in needing a new rear wheel for my aging hybrid, and a new spoke for my even more aging "spare" hybrid. Kevin is very helpful, says that he can get me that new wheel and replace the spoke probably by tomorrow. I head for a few more errands, and he calls me a little over an hour later saying that he's got both done, ready to be picked up. Now that's service. I highly recommend Poway Bicycle. They have a large inventory, they are very knowledgeable about their products and they have AWESOME customer service. I stopped by their shop recently looking for a 2018 Yeti that I wanted to purchase at a low "price match" that I found advertised online. Although they were more than willing to price match, they unfortunately no longer had that bike in inventory. Normally that would have been the end of the discussion however they ended up offering me the 2019 Yeti at a very good price point! The check out process was fast and efficient and they followed through by getting the bike on time as promised all tuned and ready to go. And last but not least, they have a very friendly shop husky who is more than willing to give out free hugs! Go there, you won't be disappointed! It pains me to give PB one star, but I've had to use the 3 strikes your out rule. I was a client for over 3 years and they continually : 1) couldn't repair my problem (sometimes as simply as a flat tire, which took 3 times); 2) made poor assumptions, 3) had poor to no communication. But they were close and generally apologetic for their mistakes, so kept giving them chances (my mistake). First off, on one repair they only replaced 1 of 5 bolts that hold on my brake rotor to the rear hub during a tune-up, ultimately that rotor failed (a 3 mile push for me instead of a ride) and caused the need for complete hub replacement (which they did at no cost, but with a lower quality part). Secondly, I've been trying to fix a shifting issue, they tried and tried and couldn't resolve (again 3+ tries) and then convinced me that it was my was shifters and derailers. I bought brand new ($215) complete set-up, they installed, didn't fix the problem, so wasted $215. During their first attempt, the took the lowest grade shifter available to them to try to replace my older XT model without even calling me. It was a disaster, looked horrible (visible gear indicator for a cheap bike, just on one side), fit horrible, completely unacceptable and caused me a wasted round trip and a week of shop time. Lastly, I even brought my MTB in along with my son's little bmx bike (lime green) for both to be tuned. I bought a pair of cheap lime green bar handles to make his bike look fun and they mistakenly put them on my customized MTB. When I came to pick up my bike, my jaw hit the floor and I asked the tech what was he thinking, to which he replied "I kinda thought that was weird". Again, a simple phone call would have solved the problem, saved me a trip. I wish I had a better experience, as now I am on hunt for a new shop I can trust, which is going to be further away. If you choose to use them, I would make sure that your directions are crystal clear and that they know exactly what they are supposed to do, because if you assume that it is common sense you will be disappointed. I would also check their work. I do think that they a have 1-2 good techs, but the bad experiences out-weigh the chance that they will do it right. :( read more

Stopped in to get my tire fixed on my unicycle. I assumed I'd have to leave it and come back for it in a few days. Nope- he said no problem and fixed it then and there. While I was waiting I heard the clerk on the phone with someone explaining to him that after looking at his bike, the tune up service the customer chose was not necessary and he only needed the basic tune up it saved the customer over $100. I got a new inner tube fixed and handed back to me in 20 minutes for $15. Super satisfied. read more

We were out on our tandem bike and got a flat. :( Googled Poway Bike shop and they popped up. Called for help and the person cheerfully invited us to come in and said they'd take care of it right away. At first I wasn't happy with the bike mechanic who seemed really unhappy to be working on my bike. He was slamming tools around and cussing until I confronted him and then he quickly fixed the tire and lubricated the chain and apologized. He said he was hungry for lunch and that made him grouchy. Price was less than quoted and very reasonable. We'll be back. read more
