I ordered a cannondale trail bike from Edison cycle co online for Christmas. Shipping seemed pretty fast...i received today...... but i received the bike with get this, NO PEDALS, NO RIGHT HAND GRIP.......... and and my "skewer with lever end" was missing for the front wheel......essentially making it IMPOSSIBLE TO ATTACH THE FRONT WHEEL. I've called all three locations and emailed customer service and apparently they had a short week for Christmas. Looks like I will not be riding bikes with my kids on our Christmas camping trip after all. How can a company eff up an order so badly?? read more

This is just real and honest review. I went to this shop because I used to go there a lot, few years ago when they still have the shop at Poway road. I had really good experience, they were really helpful to their customers. I love supporting local businesses but unfortunately with the new location by pomerado road the service gone HORRIBLE! WHAT HAPPENNED!?! I still try to get business from them but they lack effort. They need to take care of their customers by communicating and updating on whats going on. I think it needs new management, the people that work there now dont have the passion on bikes anymore like they used to have. It seems like theyre just there to get paid. Poway Bicycle good days are gone. I still hope for the best but they need to do something if they still want to stay in business. I feel bad for other customers like me that just need help with their bikes, spend a lot of money but get bad service. Its not a fair trade. Just go somewhere else. I cannot recommend going to Poway Bicycle. They do not stand behind their service or products. I recently had them perform a full service on my Cannondale Super V Raven. While being serviced I had them put new tires on both front and back. The mentioned that the tires may be to large when I picked up the bike and to bring it back should there be any issues. The smallest 26 inch tires they had there were 26 x 2.3. Poway Bicycle did not perform a fit check for the tires. When I took the bike out on its first ride I noticed that the tire was rubbing against the derailer. The rear tire would rub against the front derailer when riding in the smallest chain ring on the bike. Also , after I picked up the bike the gear change cables where out of adjustment. Gear noise was present when shifting on some of the gears. I performed some final adjustments and it seemed to take care of the problem. I spent $500 on a service where the gears where not adjusted correctly and tires that did not fit, they installed tires that were not checked for proper fit. Once I brought the tire back Poway Bicycle refused to exchange or refund the purchase of the tire. I asked the owner to call me about the issue but never did. read more

I don't know what's happened to this place, but the service sucks now. The guy running the front has no customer service skills and groans and moans when you ask him to help unload a huge bike. I'd do it myself, but it's a heavy electric bike and it's just awkward. Not sure if ownership changed or not. If you have another place to get tires fixed, I'd go there instead. read more

I've been taking my wifes and my bike for service there for a couple years. They do a good job and have a nice little shop, however many times when I go in there I get the impression I'm bothering them and they really don't want to bother helping me. Today was another example went in looking for a new bike rack and to check out the new ebikes. Perhaps if I were a young cute gal, I don't know. Maybe it's a personal thing, maybe I'm catching them at a bad time, they are usually quite busy. All I can think is this shop is in a good location, they get lots of traffic and as much business as the small crew can handle so they don't much care if you shop there or not. read more

The place was really amazing when I wanted to spend $1500 on a bike. The thing is I knew what I wanted and they made sure to find what I wanted in their inventory. Even combing through all their sister stores to find my size. Want a service? Forget about it. The staff couldn't even and didn't even seem interested in helping me schedule a service appointment. Instead directed me to just go online. The thing is when demand is greater than their supply they can do whatever they want. I don't expect to just walk in and have something done that day but the fact the floor staff doesn't even care to know or even try to find out what is available and when is not a good practice but I guess if people are knocking down their doors just to have a bike looked at it doesn't really matter because someone is right behind you. So I did go to their web site and that couldn't even really give me anything specific. Just pick a day in the future that's open and we will call you when to confirm. Yeah we will call you as close to the last minute as we can. Well our time is just as important as yours. They are so busy how can you trust your service isn't going to be rushed. Do yourself a favor check your own tire pressure, buy a chain tool and watch YouTube. You'll learn more just waiting to get you bike into this place. I just dropped my baby (my mountain bike) off for the annual tear down and rebuild (Full Descender package). While at it, I had them send out my Fox Float X shock for full rebuild. Quinn did a great job of tearing everything down, cleaning everything, and properly greasing everything before torquing everything down back to factory specs. During the tear down, quin found a few things that needed attention but didn't try to up-sell me on anything I didn't need. I chose to do a few things and defer a couple more. My bike is like new (again) as it is every year after getting my maintenance done at Poway Bicycle. I can't recommend them enough. read more

Brought my 12+ year old , rusty, not ridden in 8 years bike here for a tune up. Was quoted $125 for tune up, and estimated 3-4 day turn around. Less than 5 hours later, got a call that it was ready for pick up, and that he even managed to get a lot of the rust off! I didn't have any extra work needed or charged (which honestly, was happily surprised about), and I was not expecting the rust to be addressed at all. I called Poway Bike on a Thursday afternoon panicked out because my attempt to adjust my wife's rear brake on her Sondors Smart Step Ebike just was not working out. I explained we were going RV camping on Sunday and we were planning on taking the bike with us. They said bring it in. Brake adjustment was completed and ready for pick up next day Friday. Super reasonable price. The guys at Poway bikes are not "snooty" like some other bike shops because you happen to own a bike other than what they sell. I interacted with Kevin, Matt, and Eric. I haven't had a bike since I was a kid, but the brakes on my new ride have been feeling off for a while now. The rear brake finally stopped working completely. Love these guys! I got a new bike a few months ago, first epic bike for me, and I'm always having little things happen to it that I worry about. I have brought it in many times, and they always are quick to help, ease my mind, fix small issues, and get me riding again. Vinnie has put this thing up on the rack quite a few times and made little tweaks even though they're busy with other bikes. Nate helped me with a weird wheel repair issue that was confusing and got me riding yesterday right before closing time. And everyone is just generally super helpful. Update: I had a situation go down initially with an employee who was not only rude but combative with me after asking for an ETA on my bike. Very offensive question, I know. Now, usually those stories sound petty, and instead of getting into that more to prove its importance and how I was slighted; I rather focus on the business owner. After hearing my story, he apologized, then drove over to my house to pick up my bike, fix it, and return it. I told him that I would do my part and change my previous review at which he responded, "I don't do this for the reviews but I appreciate that. This is my business and I take pride in our reputation." That spoke volumes louder then hiring a poor employee. read more

I've been happy with Poway Bicycle's service several times over the past few years, replacing chains and cassettes, tune-ups and cleaning, etc. But I'm sooo over-the-top happy with two recent service experiences, that I have to write this review. First, the rear disc brakes on my road bike went out the day before I was leaving town for a bike ride in Big Bear. After countless YouTube videos and frustration I surrendered and went to Poway Bicycle. After hearing my sad story, the front-counter guy took a look and gave me some helpful pointers on brake adjustment. Didn't work. So back to Poway Bicycle. This time we got master mechanic Vinny on the case. I know they're usually swamped with repair work, but Vinny took the bike and called me early the next morning to let me know I was going to make it to Big Bear (with brakes!). Second, I needed to mount an old seat to the seat post on my mountain bike but I was missing half of the clamp mechanism. After my previous happy experience, I headed straight to Poway Bicycle to see if anyone even sells such a thing. Short answer was "no, not really". However, Vinny had a spare seat post in his stock of random bike parts on hand and we just swapped posts. Wow! Highly satisfied customer, 5-star review. BAM! read more

New to MTB and brought my bike in to install new tires. I was quoted $25/tire for complete setup and mount. I was quoted double that cost at other places which seemed a little excessive. Brought it in and was told since it's already tubeless, i was given a cheaper price at $20/tire. Really happy they didn't try to gouge me. These guys have been open for a few years now, growing the size of the business, and the size of the staff. The new shop has more room to stock more bikes/parts/complete service on your bike, and now there are several mechanics instead of just two. More parts in stock + more mechanics = less down time off my bicycle :) Since they have opened, I have purchased 3 bikes from them, and had numerous repairs completed. Between the 11 bikes in my extended family, combined with a dozen friends that I have... well, lets just say that I see these guys on a pretty frequent basis. I have ALWAYS been extremely pleased with the smiling, knowledgeable, and skilled staff. **Service**: - prices are still far below the competition. I know how to fix almost anything on a bicycle, but these guys are so fast, and charge such a fair price, it's usually just a smarter idea to let them handle a service for me. Plus mechanics Quinn, Gabe, Tony, tony and the other guys complete a job in an hour or less that would require an entire Saturday morning of my time. **Bicycle Sales**: - I recently went into the shop to buy a new bike for my 6'3" 76 year old father-in-law. Obviously due to his age/size/the fact that he still bombs down mountains on his bike like he's 50 years younger this was going to be a challenge. The shop Owner Luis, & Manager Keith spent several hours over several days with us trying out bikes. They checked my father-in-law's sizing/fit, and then had him try the bikes out until he found the perfect fit. We ended up on a bike that was wayyyyyy nicer than we assumed would be in our budget for the same money. Definitely a higher spec'd component bike for the money vs. the competition. **Customer Service** - I'm not the easiest guy to please, and I'm quite the perfectionist, so the fact that I keep returning to this shop to do business speaks volumes. My wife has a friend that just the other day told us the story of: "I had a flat in the running stroller, and there's this bike shop over by Stater Bros, and the Movie Theater, those guys were so nice and had my stroller flat fixed in under 5 minutes." It's a breath of fresh air to have a locally owned, and family run business that cares about it's customers, and the community first. read more

I bought a used Specialized bike off OfferUp and it had clip pedals, I prefer platform/regular flat pedals. Poway Bicycles was recommended by a friend and they didn't disappoint. They responded back with what they had in stock, very friendly when I went in and every installed the pedals for me right away. I asked about my tires being worn and if they recommend new ones. I was ripe for an upsell easily but they were honest and explained they were in good condition just a less aggressive tred pattern for street and off road. DO NOT BRING YOUR BIKE HERE FOR SERVICE. I got a pair of used carbon rims and some spokes in the rear were rattling so I figured I'd bring the rims in for a wheel true (even though they were already decent) and specifically asked them to check the spoke tensions and stop the rattling. Got the wheels back and the same spokes were still rattling so I figured I'd do it myself. I do all my own maintenance except truing and BB replacement so it was simply a matter of getting a spoke tension meter. My wheels have a specified range of 65-75kgf in the front and 110-120kgf in the rear. The wheels were vertically and radially true... but the spoke tension was way too high. Fronts measured 120-135 and the rear drive side (radial) was up to 140. Checked the rims for cracks around the nipple holes but they seem to be okay... It took a few hours to fix the problem myself but I'm very glad I am no longer at high risk of a crash. Bottom line- I'm not sure which monkeys are responsible for possibly putting my life in danger (rim cracking on a mountain descent) but I'm never going to this shop again. Stay away! read more
