They have a full menu with smoothies, breakfast and lunch items, which I will have to try next time. The cafe is spacious and comfortable- a great place to enjoy a meal or study with your caffeinated drink of choice in hand. I recently met my friend here to catch up over coffee and as soon as she walked in she exclaimed, "this place is so cute!" So yeah, they have a cute interior, with lots of space, and they have tasty food too! My friend got a coffee (mocha something?) which she raved about. She kept saying it was too hot to drink, but then wouldn't stop drinking it! I decided to opt for a Wright smoothie instead of coffee, and that had strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and banana. It was very tasty and refreshing. We also both got marzipan croissants. They were flaky and moist and the filling was yummy. The staff was smiling and friendly and the prices were very reasonable. They were previously located across the street, and I went to that location a few times a while back and always enjoyed whatever I ordered... especially the French toast with strawberries and whipped cream! The offerings are varied and plentiful, with healthy and fresh veggies options. The special for the day soup (pumpkin) was the outstanding! I would only suggest the corned beef in the corned beef hash not made with the thin slivers of corned beef meat as they seem to lessen the "corned beef" flavor and mouthfeel. Super cute cafe and bakery! Very open floor plan. The concept is similar to Panera. You order, take a number, find a table. The staff was very friendly and I will likely go back if I'm in the area. I had the raspberry coconut muffin which was delicious. My friend had the veggie breakfast burrito that was a tad soggy. Mocha, Mocha, and more Mocha please. Their coffee here is how I like my men. Strong and full bodied. At least that's what I got from the sip my husband let me have from his. I absolutely adore this place. The very down home, quaint, and rustic feel is a charmer. Prices are a bit high but you pay for what you get.. And what I get is one of their amazing lemon cookies that fills my soul w the feels of a thousand lemons. We've also tried the eggs benni, a few diff breakfast items, and teas. The Prairie Cafe closes at 3 p.m. on weekdays and 2 p.m. on the weekend. However, from time to time, it is open for dinner with live jazz. The menu is special to these jazz evenings and regular menu items are not available. During these events, wine is available for purchase. My husband and I went last night. We loved it. Lights are low, the atmosphere mellow, the meal lovely. Several people who work at the cafe came around asking all of us how we liked the food. This really seemed to be a labor of love. There was a choice of four or five entrees between $15 and $20. I had the chicken breasts with a balsamic reduction, garlic mashed potatoes, broccoli, and a piece of sourdough bread. My husband had the salmon and shrimp risotto and a piece of wholegrain French bread. This was delicious food, beautifully plated for under $20 a person. The jazz band played an array of jazz standards with sophisticated, witty renditions of songs like "Some Day My Prince Will Come". The music didn't dominate conversation but absolutely enhanced the dining experience. Needless to say, we'll be back. read more

I love this place! So many great food options! The fruit is freshly chopped up and is a great portion as a side- not like those little cups of soggy fruit. The curry egg salad is my favorite, but there are so many other tasty items on the menu! I wish they'd open up another one in my town! Visited for breakfast today, and really enjoyed it. A couple of specials listed on the board when you walk in. Order at the counter and the give you a number and bring it to your table. The special sounded good - but I went for an omlet with sausage, mushroom and cheddar with sourdough toast. It was excellent! Good size, delicious sausage and the Fresh bread. Others in our group had a Belgian waffle and one had oatmeal. All were very pleased! Order came out fast and the staff was very nice. Good sized place and it looked like there was outdoor seating too. Very pleased. Only complaints were it looked like many bakery items were sold out (good sign they were good) and the menu on the website wasn't working. One review said cash only - but I don't know - I saw a card swiped ahead of me so that might be old info. Can't wait to go again! Very good! read more

I brought my children here for breakfast before going out on a hike at Pheasant Ridge. The menu had lots of choices, the restaurant was fairly large and had a great open feel to it so we never felt crowded like we do at several other places. Kids ate their food quickly and still had leftovers to take home. I had the daily quiche but I wish I would have ordered the waffle because it was light and was perfectly golden. My other daughter had a smoothie of some sort that tasted great as well. The only negative was that for our family with 3 kids this will probably be someplace that we will only occasionally go because it was quite pricey. Granted my kids each had hot chocolate. Lastly, when we were ready to go I went up to the counter to get a to go box and cup. I stood there for several minutes with 1 person telling me with one person saying someone would be right with me. A couple more minutes passed by and I finally stopped one of the multiple people that were walking right by me. I am generally patient and was not in a rush but I did feel I waited to long for a box and cup. Still will plan on going back though with my husband or friends. read more

Plenty of space to find a seat during lunch. Music playing but nothing obnoxious and not too loud. A great newly moved breakfast and lunch joint. There is so much more parking and space for your perfect dining experience. This is one of my favorites in Middleton, WI to go to for breakfast. They have moved to a larger location across the street so they had more dining area, which is a big improvement. I am so glad that they have a bigger space now. You walk into a very open concept with a lot of natural light from all of the windows that surround the restaurant. The ordering is simple and one of my favorites. There are big menu boards above the ordering counter. The cashier takes your order and you get a number for you to sit where you like in the restaurant. The food can take a little time to get if it is really busy. The staff is very nice and accommodating to special changes or requests. They also have a lot of vegetarian and great vegan options, which is a major plus. I recommend the pastries that are displayed next to the ordering counter. All of the food is delicious and comes out on colorful plates. I have never been disappointed with tis restaurant and will definitely go again for breakfast. read more

Over the past few years consistency was not always "5 star" at the cafe BUT recently I've seen great changes in service and food, and I think they are here to stay! I've had the pleasure of seeing Mary Ellen the last few times I've stopped in. She is the PERFECT EXAMPLE of who should be the first impression of any restaurant, office, clinic, cafe, store, etc. She is engaging, knowledgeable, efficient and downright fun to chat with. My coffee and scone were great too, but I'll admit it's often service that determines whether or not I frequent one place over another. Been here many many times. Very consistent. I like the boss combo with blueberry pancakes, scrambled eggs and cheese and bacon.

We visited this morning. We were a party of 6. When our food arrived, my daughter had ordered a full order of oatmeal and only received a half an order. When she asked about it, they quickly corrected it. I had also ordered a side of gluten free toast and had not gotten it. When I mentioned it to the server, she said "Go pay for it!". She was very rude about it. I had ordered it and thought it was paid for. The person who took our order at the register came over and said that she didn't hear me order that and it would be an additional charge. Customer service is very lacking. read more

I ate at Prairie Cafe TWICE during my 4 day stay in Madison this past weekend. (I had also been to their previous location on past visits). For my lunch visit, I had their salad of the day which was amazing. My second visit was for my grandma's 90th birthday party! What a great space for a party! Everything we needed was right there. I went earlier to help set up and the staff was so accommodating and easy to work with. And of course the food was great. Great place with extremely fresh ingredients. I've been here twice now-both times for breakfast and it's just a wonderful little place. The space is open and cheery. You order at the counter, get a number and go find a seat. There are a number of tables outside as well as counter seating if a regular table/booth isn't to your liking. Coffee is by Collectivo and is self-serve behind the register. Don't forget to grab your silverware right behind you after you pay. The menu has quite a large selection. I had the carnitas burrito and it was delish. The chipotle sauce that it comes with is excellent and I could have used a touch more on my burrito. It comes with a side of salsa verde which was awesome. Not sure if it was housemade or not but it sure tasted like it! My sister had the burrito with black beans, red/green peepers (I can't remember what it was called and is not on the online menu for some reason even though it was not a special-though after a second glance I notice the carnitas burrito is not listed either...CAUTION: website menu is not updated). She really enjoyed it and hers came with a very good red salsa. Portions aren't overwhelming and don't come with potatoes so is actually a perfect amount of food. I'll be back for sure. read more

Nice new building with well trained staff. My neck got sore looking up at the menu behind the bar. They need some hand out menus like other places. I had a southwestern rollup that was very good and spicy. My partner had the CBLT, cheese BLT I think, that was good but had too much butter on the outside of the bread. The only complaint was that there is no sound proofing and one crying rug rat in the dining area really hurt my ears and made it hard to talk. It is an open ceiling design which is nice looking but bounces all sound everywhere and is annoying.(Ban Kids!) Breakfast menu looks great and I will definitely go back. read more

went for breakfast with a group of 8, place not too busy and were able to find a table. ordered corned beef hash, eggs and toast. very disappointed, the food either was served on a cold plate or just sat before it was delivered. I've never had hash like this, small 1/2 inch cubes of potato, appears to have been deep fried, then mixed with super thin corned beef,chopped in tiny pieces, reminded me of the inexpensive stuff you find in a small plastic pouch. eggs and toast both cold...bottom line, I wouldn't recommend the hash and probably will not return...... read more
