My aunt had a salmon dinner here and her husband had a steak.Both got very sick afterwards. From reading other reviews of this place mentioning how they got sick after eating here,I was wondering if it wasn't time for some diner to report this place to the Lake County Health Dept. Time for an inspection...does the cook wash his/ her hands? The decor is nice with the inside brick walls, but the tables are so close together, there is no thing as a private conversation...it's asses to elbows here. A place has to be overly exceptional to receive 5 stars, IMO, however, this small place delivers. Service-Did not have a reservation on a Saturday evening and was able to get in relatively quickly. The wait staff was great and attentive. Atmosphere-Quaint; the tables are a little too close for my taste, but overall it was nice. It can get loud due to the high ceilings. Food-Everything was outstanding. Crab cakes (I'm very picky)-were on point. NY Strip was great. Filet Mignon was superb. Both steaks cooked to perfection. My young adult daughters had the Chicken Marsala and Shrimp Fettuccini and reported they were good. Drinks were great and the dessert portions were huge (and delicious). My girlfriend and I wanted to get dinner and a drink before we ventured out out. I wanted Mexican and the one spot is being remodeled so we decided on Prime Steakhouse. The outside is cute with the big windows to see out onto the Square. Upon entering the host immediately greeted us and asked where we'd like to sit. We decided on the high table near the windows. There were maybe 2 other tables (it was 8:30pm on Friday the 20th). Our server came rather quick and warmly greeted us and asked what he could get us to drink. While waiting we were served bread and some super delicious garlic butter (seriously was amazing) Once we had our drinks he went over the specials and then asked if he could take our order. We ordered Oysters Rockefeller and a crab cake to start with. They were served pretty fast. The presentation of the apps was very nice. I did not eat the oysters, so I cant comment on them, but the crab cake was just okay. ALL filler. There was not one chunk of crab inside. The taste was again okay, nothing to rave about and I probably would not order it again. The we received our entrees. My friend ordered the Lobster Ravioli and I ordered a Shrimp Caesar salad. Again the presentation of the food looked nice (Except they put the dressing bowl on top of my salad). That's fine, but I know it was probably sitting on a counter. The shrimp were jumbo shrimp and served cold. I thought they would be slightly grilled, but either way they tasted good. My only complaint was that the ratio of salad, croutons and cheese were WAYYY off. I took out about 30 crutons and still had a bunch. Overall the salad was very good. My friend also mentioned to our waiter that it was my birthday and they brought out the best part of the meal. A red velvet cupcake. Now, I would never pick red velvet, but it was a great cupcake. The service was very fast and polite the food was above average, but not what a "steakhouse" should be. I'd go back and try it again. read more

I went to visit with my sister and a few friends on a Wednesday evening. It was an absolute JOY to walk in around the holiday season and see the classy decorations that offset the beautiful wood and exposed brick. Overall ambiance was spectacular as several tables enjoyed the 1/2 off wine bottles special!!!! The appetizers were absolutely amazing - we ordered the bruschetta and crab cakes. Very tasty, and the left over crab cake warmed up very well the next morning with an egg fried on top. YUM! I ordered the pork chops (received two nice sized pieces) and my friends ordered the filet mignon. Every meat on the table melted in our mouths and the portions were well worth the price - especially the filet mignon. I will say that even though the pork chop melted in my mouth, it was a little on the salty side but it was unnoticeable with the side of garlic mashed potatoes and sauteed spinach. the meal, in all, was FANTASTIC and I will be driving down from Chicago again soon to enjoy the filet mignon! Quaint. On the square in Crown Point. The ambiance is great. Nice looking inside as well. So why 1 star? Service was great and we asked up front for separate checks as two couples went to eat. The check came combined. No problem. Simply ask for the split. Then the friendly service was gone. The nerve of us to remind our waitress for separate checks! The piled on to a $36 rib eye ordered medium. It came out barely medium rare. So cook a little longer but waitress never came back to check on our steaks. A side of asparagus...3 sticks. The loaded baked potato wasn't loaded. When asked upon serving where the bacon was we were told its under the few shreads of cheese. But it wasn't. Scallops were $29 for 5 the size of a quarter! The menu said $25 but the "loaded" potato added $4! Ordered a house Cabernet for $5 and was charged $7. The check was over $100. Completely NOT worth it. Steak was good but nothing to write home about. I can get a good steak at Applebee's for half the price. The scallops were way over priced. Texture was good but taste only fair at best. She claimed the were seasoned. Must have been fake seasoning. Would we go back, no. With a coupon, no. If you are buying, blow $100 somewhere else and keep the change. My girl friend took me here for my birthday. It was not busy , maybe 5 other tables had patrons. Yet the service was slow. We ordered appetizers which were on special. Ribs , deep fried mashed potatoes, prawns and onion rings. The ribs lacked flavor and the prawns were over cooked and rubbery. As an entre we both ordered the 9 oz filet (medium) , with grilled asparagus. I had baked potato and my girl friend had broccoli. The asparagus was large and not tender, rather stringy and only the tops were edible. The biggest problem was when the steaks arrived the steaks were red and bloody (rare), not medium. When we cut into them, we immediately called the server , the server agreed that they were rare, and returned them to the kitchen. We assumed they would replace the steaks. Instead they re-heated the steaks we cut into. When the steaks were returned to us, they were still rare. The evening was ruined. We asked that they pack the steaks up to-go and left. How can a steak house not get steaks cooked properly. We will not return. read more

I wouldn't have even given it one star if a " no star option was available. The owner apparently does not believe in customer service nor pest control. I did not ask for any kind of break on the check even after the rodent issues, but did however try to utilize a pre purchased restaurant.com coupon. The owner refused the coupon and accused us of "going around to restaurants doing this". I'm not sure what the "this" was. Pretty sure a restaurant.com coupon is fairly common. We fed the mice as entertainment to try and lighten up the bad experience. We named the fat one Pepe. Save your money. For a $35 dollar steak, you should take MUCH BETTER CARE of your customers. If you read through all the reviews, it a pretty mixed bag. I went on a Wednesday which had half price bottles of wine. Perfect! The waitress was especially nice, fast and stayed on top of everything. I had the bruschetta which was a much bigger portion than expected which is always good. The filet special was cooked perfectly and the sides were excellent as well. It got busier as the night went on, but not crowded to the point of overcrowded. Overall, it was a great experience, it would have been 5 stars, but if you're not getting in on the specials, the dinner will get a bit pricey for the location and ambiance. I had the pleasure of dining at Prime with some of my closest friends and the restaurant's family-owned atmosphere made our dining experience that much more wonderful. The food was exemplary and the half-priced bottle of wine I shared with my friend was delicious. The crab cakes are a MUST. I brought one home with me and had it for breakfast with an egg-AMAZING. I had the surf n turf. It was amazing. I could cut the filet with my fork. The lobster was bigger than advertised. It was so sweet. My girlfriend had the scallops. I think she got 5. But they were huge! I almost forgot about our apps. Crab cakes and oysters. So good! Usually I have to go to Chicago for a meal like this. The owner was so happy that we were happy. My wife and I had dinner there Sunday evening. The staff was very attentive but our dinner was not good at all. I ordered the pan fried Lake Perch with baked potato and green beans. The 'pan fried' perch was deep fried with thick breading, the green beans were not cooked and had no flavor and the baked potato was so so. My wife had the Alaskan Red Salmon, garlic mashed potatoes and the green beans. The Salmon was ok, the potatoes were not hot and the beans were tasteless and tough. Even the house salads were just ok -- may have been better if the lettuce was not so wet. The best part of the meal was the bread with the garlic butter. The butter was handy for adding flavor to the green beans. We were deciding between the Lighthouse restaurant and Prime. Unfortunately we chose Prime. This was our first time there and we will not go back. The quality of the food did not live up to the price they charged. read more

Sorry to give a poor rating, and if you look at all my reviews you'll see I rarely give bad reviews. The decor is a little tired, but the service was fine. My wife had a mahi-mahi special and she said it was fresh but only "OK" - I'll call that 3 stars. I had a bone in ribeye, their "signature steak." The menu also said they only serve Angus prime steaks. My steak was cooked a little uneven, not grilled, but medium rare as I ordered. But it was one of the worst ribeyes I've ever had, instead of flavorful marbling it was just full of fat and gristle. And it was subtle, but it was even a tinge gamey. There's no way it was a prime steak, I just bought and cooked a real prime ribeye at home two weeks ago! It's not as expensive as a better Chicago steakhouse, but I would have been disappointed at that ribeye at Prime at half the price. We usually order cocktails, appetizers and even desserts, glad we didn't at Prime. The good ratings must be from folks who don't get out of Crown Point very often, or like steaks well done (like the table next to us). read more

I will never go back. I had a reservation but still waited an hour to be seated (this is very common there) the waiter was sweating profusely which lessoned my appetite. After ordering my steak medium well to well with no butterfly, it was brought to me bleeding, the asparagus burnt. The 2nd time it was red inside. By the 3rd time my husband was done eating so I ate nothing. The owner approached and started to argue with me stating I ordered it that way! For $35.00, I expect my steak cooked the way I order it. This has been a problem on previous visits also. Once a waitress insisted the onions she brought us were chives. The kitchen is filthy and the restaurant much too small. read more

Ribeye was gristly and chewy, the filet was extremely salty and chewy, the broccoli was raw and old (it had brown spots on the florets), and the garlic mashed potatoes had no flavor and were very dry. I have been coming here with my spouse for a couple years. You think you have you're little "spot" but it's false. I have celiacs disease and I make them aware every time. Not only did they lie and bring me breaded potatoes they brought me a porterhouse that was covered in some sort of cleaner. I've been sick since I left and turns out I was actually poisoned! Past experience, bad planning = good time? My wife and I had dinner at Prime Streakhouse two years ago that was a great experience. So when ask by a friend (who never plans anything) about doing a birthday dinner for his wife I highly recommend Prime. My friend then made a reservation for 6 people a few days prior to the planned dinner that was changed to 10 people on the day of the dinner and changed again to 16 people during the dinner. The team at Prime did a great job making everything work. Our server and the rest of the staff did an outstanding job managing orders, keeping drinks coming, bring out fresh food that was well prepared and tasted great (nothing came out cold or was undercooked) for 16 people. Our group had no complaints even with a couple of picky eaters like myself. As part of the birthday celebration, we had two large cake slices of Red Velvet cake that was very good. Everything went well and everyone enjoyed themselves. I was a good night! We had two birthdays and one marriage proposal which I did not see coming. In closing this could've been a bad experience due to poor planning but the Prime staff made it work! The most impressive thing about this experience was the level of customer service the Prime team display. No one on the Prime team complained, no one was ruled the team took on the challenge and delivered 5 star. Outstanding Job! read more

Prime is AMAZING, The filet is my favorite entree. They have a great selection for seafood too. I always think I'm going to switch my order but then I stick to what I love. Our waitress Kelly was awesome. She must have the patience of a Saint. I asked her a bunch of questions about the menu (thinking i might switch things up) and she had the answers. I wasn't sure what wine I wanted so she brought me samples of a few she suggested (without me even having to ask) that was really thoughtful and made us feel like she genuinely wanted us to be happy with the wine we chose. When we got our filets she came back a few minutes later to make sure they were cooked properly. Everything was great. We've never had an issue with service or food at Prime, but tonight's visit was the best yet. You definitely appreciate outstanding service when you've had mediocre before. Well We ate at the sushi room upstairs of Prime and it was amazing ! But the other reason I am writing is to update the prime problem that we had. We meet the real manager and was told that the manager that treated us so poorly was fired. So I feel much better and will go back and give Prime another try! We had always had such good service and that event was a one time event and are happy to hear that it is back to the good Prime we know and love ! read more

The Prime is way overpriced for not quality food. The bone-in ribeye steak $37. was tough & gristly. The Blue cheese dressing was watered down & had no blue cheese in it. The lake perch tasted like it was frozen & microwaved and was more breading than perch. Came here on a sat. night for my friends bachelor party dinner. I'm giving this 5 stars for the 26 ounce ribeye, one of the best steaks I've had in years. I was the only one in my party to finish it. I had heard so many great things about this restaurant and wanted to make my partners special birthday one to remember. Well, I made a reservation a week in advance and when we got there, the restaurant was busy but people were leaving left and right. The host asked if I had a reservation and when I said yes, that didn't seem to make a difference. He proceeded to sit four groups of people ahead of us. Now I can't say that they didn't have a reservation, but I know for a fact talking to one woman that she had just called 10 minutes prior and was told to come in there was lots of room. Even her and her date were seated before us and we were also a party of two. As I questioned the manager as to why make a reservation, if we still had to wait 20 minutes, she got snippy with me and said she was not going to argue the point. She contradicted herself by first saying I was going to give you the table over there, which was smaller and than decided to give you this one. I couldn't hurry these people up could I? Again, why make a reservation. After we sat down, our server came and took our drink order, she asked my date, when he ordered a bottle of wine if he was going to drink the whole bottle. What difference does it make, she wasn't paying for it. Unprofessional. We got our drinks and ordered a couple of appetizers and even before we could start eating she was wanting us to place our food order. Again, why the rush. The tables were so close together that the couple sitting next to us started a conversation with us because of the way we were being treated. She complained that the shrimp was so bad, the breading at Long John Silver's was better. The guy that was two tables over from us even joined in the conversation recommending a Steak House that would not disappoint. (Does that tell you how close the table were) We ordered our entrees and I asked for a filet medium well, she asked if I wanted it butterflied and I said yes. My date ordered a porterhouse also medium well. Our salad's arrived and were nothing special. Not even a crouton in there. Wendy's makes a much better salad. Dressing was bland. Our meal came and everything looked good. My steak was a little too done for me, but I guessed it was because I asked to have it butterflied. My dates steak was perfect or so we thought. After about four bites, he cut into the steak to show it was almost raw. We showed it to the server and she never offered to take it back or replace or anything, He finally said just wrap it up and I will take it home and finish cooking it. It was the most disappointing experience I have ever had and then I was to pay $150 for our dinner. For that kind of money, which I will gladly pay if worth it, it was terrible. Even the dessert sucked. People save your money for somewhere else. Rude manager, bad server, host was not even doing his job well. First off my own fault that I didn't make a reservation and had a long wait. The Appetizers were about average and the entrees were below average. I looked at other diners who had ordered the same thing and their plates were much more presentable, my friend and my plates were sloppy and messy. Honestly though the most off putting thing about my whole experience was the fact that while we were waiting for our table to be set up, I witnessed something horrifying! I couldn't believe it, the older blonde lady( possibly the owner) was carrying out water glasses with her hand cupped over the rim that you drink from AND the worst was seeing her carrying out bread plates underneath her armpit!!! Totally disgusting and unacceptable!! The busboy quickly replaced them and apologized. On a better note, the server was excellent and efficient. My husband and I went here on NYE. We had 8:00 reservations, but we weren't able to be seated until after 9pm. The place was packed, and the staff and manager were running around trying to do the best they could. We were able to find a seat upstairs in the lounge area, but the bar was too crowded to even get drinks. By about 8:45 I was incredibly frustrated and starving. I did go downstairs a couple of times to inquire about our table, and could see that many tables were done eating, but just sitting around and chatting, which is why it took so long for us to be seated. Finally we got to our table. It was near the kitchen, and a bit drafty. The tables were super close together, so it was impossible to have much conversation during dinner due to being about 6 inches from the next table over. However, I will give the place 4 stars because I thought the food was fantasic! We enjoyed calamari as our appetizer, and we both ordered filets, and they were both cooked perfectly to medium-rare. I didn't care much for the vesuvio potatoes, but my husband had no complaints regarding his baked potato. We were too full for dessert. I'll definitely return on another night, when hopefully they won't be so busy. The wait staff was fantastic, very kind and calm, despite being so frantically busy. I believe Wednesdays are half off bottles of wine, so that's probably when we'll try this place again. read more
