The rice had hairs in it, the chicken wan not fully cooked( it was pink with blood). The beans was from 2 days ago, they just had cheese to dressed it up a little. I want to start by saying the store inside and the butcher have been great experiences. Tried the fish tacos and shrimp burrito from the outside kitchen to go and it was a disappointing experience for me and my girlfriend. Fish tacos look double or triple deep fried literally burnt. You would think with a line so long, the food would be excellent, but it was really a let down. $1.69 for a shrimp taco is decent but when I can eat the whole taco in one bite, it's not really worth it for me.. And I'm a light eater! They could at least tell you that they are mini tacos! I also hate baby shrimp and that's what they use, my that's my preference, not their fault. fish taco was alright, but It said the fish was lightly battered but was almost burnt.. I've always been very happy and satisfied with all my food and service here. But the last two times I must say I've been very disappointed. My orders messed up, and what seems to be a lack of care to try and Make it right on the employee side. Just got off work and wanted to eat at Primos for dinner. Pulled up at 7pm and was told the cook turns off the fryer 2 hours before closing. LAZY!!!! Really disappointed in the service. Found this place with Yelp and the reviews were right-on. I had 4 carne asada street tacos and an Horchata for under $4 for lunch. It's hard to beat 69cent tacos and no lunch line. Outdoor seating is nice so close to the beach and you can do some grocery shopping when you're done eating. read more

Maybe the novelty of Mexican markets has worn off for some of you native San Diegans, but as a newer citizen I still marvel at a good authentic grocer! "look at the price of this super fresh produce??" " oh wow, best guac ever!" and on and on I go, especially when I found Primos. Initially addicted to the street tacos they serve out of the deli and meat counter in the back of the store, I quickly became a fully initiated regular and shop there for fresh ingredients, meats to grill, and sauces, spices, and CHIPS! The parking isnt great but most people are in and out, they smoke meats outside all day and you'll smell it blocks away and won't be able to resist! for the freshly made tacos, burritos, and more, there is a salsa bar, fresh cilantro and limes! The carne asada though - just insanely good. Probably one of the best carne asada we've ever had! We had the burrito and I wasn't even that hungry, but ate the whole thing because it was so damn tasty. Packed with flavor, juicy, and just plain delicious. You definitely get your moneys worth. Great prices and great variety. Menu is pretty big, expands the entire wall - ranging from quesadillas to tacos to plates to burritos, everything you'd ever want for Mexican food. We sat outside on the benches and just hung out and ate a low key dinner. A lot of people came for take out. There's a cute grocery store just adjacent to it. Drinks are huuuuge. Parking is easy. Worst customer service---placed my order over the phone 15 minutes before I got there. Got there and my order wasn't even placed. My husband went up to the window to ask about our order and the lady told him she didn't have it, when he asked if this was the Primos on Morse Street (to make sure I called the right place) the lady yelled at him, "if you wanna whine go complain to the manager" and slammed the window! Absolutely unacceptable customer service! My children stood there and watched while my husband and I picked up our belongings and walked inside to tell the manager and left. You ever walk into a Mexican market/bodega and it's just packed with all kinds of things, most of which sits on their shelves a long time, but the key stuff is flying off the shelves? A disproportionate amount of things at most places move versus do not move. Well not here at Primo's. They stock the right about of salsa's, the right amount of meats, the right amount of fruits and other items. Not just overloaded with any 1 thing. They do go through a lot of their Carne Asada because it's the skirt steak with a really good marinade. I found the pollo asada breast to be a tad dry, but I think that's more due to it being so thin. I prefer the leg meat with a touch of fat, but the marinade is the same. Salsa's are fresh and varied, made daily, I do wish they had a little chunkier fresco. Some booze, some cigarettes, chips, tortilla's, but everything you 'd expect at a Mexican Market/bodega, but in the correct amounts unlike say every other place you've been too. read more

I suppose some people may visit Primo Foods to buy groceries. Some people may even visit to purchase alcoholic beverages. There's only one reason why I visit Primo Foods -- the tacos! Primo Grill (on the side of the building) serves Mexican food, burgers, and sandwiches. The burgers are alright, and I haven't tried any sandwiches. What I have had, however, are a ton of their tacos. Both carne asada and pollo asado. For a mere .99 cents you can get a pretty damn good taco, just like you'd get in Mexico from a street vendor, and you can add a can of soda for like .50 cents. The only difference between the tacos at Primo and in Mexico is the fact that you don't have to worry about carrying enough money with you to bribe the Federales if you're eating at Primo. read more

This place is a great find. I was yelping for another grocery store in the area, took a wrong turn and waa-la-Primo Foods! The produce stand in front of the store is very inviting. When you enter it's like a mom & pop establishment. We were greeted by a salsa bar/tasting. Wow-weeeee. The salsas are fanastic, nice size containers for 4.99. We have only been here for 10 days and already been there twice to pick up some salsa. Great microbeer selection in their coolers. Always such great food! I come here often because I live so close and the food is the best Mexican food you can get any where in San Diego county! The only problem I have with this place is one of the girls doesn't seem to like her job or people. She makes me feel like I'm asking her to go above and beyond when I ask if I can get my soda while I wait for the food! Customer service is a big deal for me and even though the food is so great I can do with out the attitude. Also they never have any chile relleno made and it's one of the few things I can get there as a vegetarian when I'm not in the mood for fish. Out in Carlsbad, CA visiting a friend under some tough circumstances, but one of the high points has been lunch three days in a row (yup, three days in a ROW) at Primo's. Loved the tacos (had al pastor & carnitas), loved the the tortas (with carne asada) - even with the sweeter, softer bread than I was used to, and loved the ribs. The rice was really good as well.
