Primos has two locations but the Oceanside one is my favorite. Free bbq samples before you walk in (and it's soooo good), reasonable prices except maybe the wine is a bit high. The salsa.... Omg the salsa. The Japonesa salsa is my favorite but there's so many and I haven't tried them all yet. We have ordered trays of meat, rice, and beans to throw a party/ set up a taco bar and it's always a huge hit. This time we just got a couple pounds of carne Asada and carnitas. The taco window can be a bit slow (especially considering was just getting meat scooped into a box/ no tacos) but it's totally worth it. Place your order. Tacos for 0.69¢???? Well for Tuesdays and Fridays but yea SUPER CHEAP. The only ones available for it are carne asada, pollo, al pastor, and carnitas. But yes they were great! We have been coming to Oceanside for the last seven years camping. We usually drive to Escondido's world market to get good authentic fresh Mexican food. they give huge samples of their food, and in my opinion people who are cooking food outside that cannot give a sample of their food means their food is no good. A couple that is camping near us let us know about this place last night. We decided to try it out and they did not disappoint. Everything is fresh and delicious. This place is very unassuming with the picnic table tablecloths and you getting your salsa inside the little corner market. Their tacos are small and delicious, they're practically guiltless. Get 4! I was so excited to try the Oceanside famous Primos brisket. Everything looked great, gentleman was super nice. No complaints with customer service at all. The brisket however, was almost all fat with very little flavor, not even seasoning. The beans and rice are cold. 1000% do not recommend. So incredibly bummed my lunch turned out to be garbage. Food is good but this place is inefficiently slow on Taco Tuesdays. We went around 1pm and sure the wait to order only takes a few minutes but it took like 45 minutes before I got my food. By that time, it was already overcast and the beach was already cold. Maybe just me but this is a little unacceptable for tacos, a fast food item. Rather do the 15 minute line in the other Primo's locations (vista) but get my food immediately. But again, the food is good. We even tried the bbq ribs and aguas frescas they were selling up front (we got these right away) and they were excellent. If you avoided Taco Tuesdays or maybe come down at a much later time, then it will probably a good experience but it might be a while before I go here again, if ever. read more

This is a special place. My husband has brought home a few salsas from this place but I had never been in person until tonight. It was hopping because of the .69 taco Friday night which also happens on Tuesdays. We rolled up and the tables were full with people waiting for the cheap and I assume tasty fare from the outdoor order window. I haven't tried it quite yet but look forward to it in the future. When I walked inside I literally saw a wall of salsas with no labels. I was in salsa heaven for sure. I saw the orange one that my husband brought home one time and I remember taking a bite and thinking hmmm...I don't know if this is for me. After a couple more bites I found myself addicted and had it every night after until the container was devoured in full. I remember thinking each container of salsa he brought home whether a half size or a full size was $7.99. I thought this can't be it's so expensive for salsa but the smaller containers are so dense and full of rich powerful flavors I understood eventually. This time, being my first time deciding which salsa to try on my own I asked the cashier for help. He seemed to be partial to the spicier salsas as he went through the selection and I tried to pick the ones that' seemed to light up his face as he pointed them out. We ended up with a Japonesa orange salsa and a very thick and deep red salsa he described as amazingly smokey and I thought I'll give them a shot. Both were excellent. I found myself spending most of the tasting of them thinking about all the wonderful foods the Smokey salsa would be amazing on. It would make an excellent chicken rub or final drip onto a potato based amusebusche. This salsa is the kind of ingredient chefs search out to make a ground breaking dish. As foodies at home we find our refrigerator is not constantly stocked of food. It's constantly stocked with flavors...condiments, salsas, oils, aiolis, vinegars and everything else to dress up the selections we picked for dinner. I'm not sure if this is normal but we have justified it as so and these salsas are perfect to add to our collection. Long story short if you truly want a new experience head over here some evening, pick a couple or three salsas and just enjoy a fun tasting savoring the flavors and thinking about the ideal dish to add them to. I just moved next to primos and absolutely love this market. The staff is very friendly and fast. Their food and prices are unbeatable, I cannot believe the tacos are 99 cents. Their carne asada burritos and tacos are 10/10. Go into the market and buy their chips and green Serrano salsa if you like an extra kick. The mango salsa is delicious for the less spicy lovers. If you go to the back of the market to the fresh meat area and buy half or full pounds of anything you will find yourself coming back anytime you want to cook.
