After loving the breakfast sandwich the first time I tried it, I was genuinely excited to come back -- but this visit missed the mark in several ways. When I arrived around 8:30am on a weekday, it wasn't busy, yet I stood at the register for nearly 10 minutes without anyone acknowledging me. The staff seemed more preoccupied than welcoming, which already set a frustrating tone. When I finally got my food, the sandwich was a mess. It looked and tasted rushed -- the sauce was dripping out, the egg was overly runny and spilling everywhere, and the bun was completely soggy. Food was below average but decent service! Good price too. Food (5/10) - The chicken had a super nice and crispy skin but the inside was pretty dry. I value the chicken meat over the chicken skin so below average in my eyes. The standard potato chips that came with the chicken had a strange sweet flavor so a bit unfortunate there's a surcharge to get those switched out. The regular fries were nice and crispy but the side sauce was soupy and sour. The chicken sandwich was decent but the chicken was not evenly spread throughout the bread; some bites did not have chicken. The potato wedges were probably my favorite. Super crispy and flavorful potatoes and the thousand island-esque dipping sauce were delicious! Drinks: Masala lemonade is definitely an acquired taste. It has a super earthy taste that was not for me. Cashier was super nice though and told me before I started drinking that if I didn't like it I could switch it out. Switched to the Arnold Palmer but that was lacking sugar and overall flavor. Not worth the price of drink. Service (8/10) - Nice service, food came out relatively quickly. Updated review - Went back and had the salad and entree, both with crispy chicken + chicken drumstick and thigh was very crispy and cooked well + staff are very friendly + good location and nice outdoor seating with fireplace + clean - all meals seem to lack anything distinctive. They are cooked well but lack anything special, no good sauce, interesting topping, spices, etc. It's like a place I'd take my grandma who would complain if there's anything non-standard from a traditional chicken salad. With two young kids, we cook mostly at home and save our dining out for things that are "special." Proposition Chicken is definitely one of the few places in our rotation. This is an easy win for our kids. They love the chicken tenders. The fries are startingly great. (My other top fries are The Liberties on Guerero, and the now closed Flora in Oakland.) They have kids meals, so each kid can have their own thing and not break the bank. And lastly, this is the place my kids learned to love salad. I think it's because the salad dressings are delicious here. For the grown-ups, we love the salads with fried chicken, beers on tap, and sandwiches. They have bone broth and chicken matzoh soup which are pleasant alternatives, for afficianados of those kind of soups. You can skip this paragraph if TLDR, but about the fried chicken. I appreciate the craft of how they do it. I have made a lot at home and understand how time consuming and messy it is to do it right. You can taste the care. They clearly brine (as the meat is flavorful and tender), they pat dry the chicken (critical to keeping the fried batter adhered), then batter it. The crust is crispy while the underlying chicken is tender and flavorful. All the home cooked taste without any of the home mess. Bathrooms are sparkling and spacious. Outdoor patio is a nice scene--easy to watch your dog from. Service is friendly and customer oriented. If you have any problem, they fix it. So, just like with the Laurel location, our whole family loves coming here. If you have kids, this is a can't miss for those nights you need your kids to eat something well-made but you're too tired to make them a home cooked meal. read more

Nice location, clean lines. Came before lunch rush and had extended conversation with the manager. We ordered a breakfast chicken sandwich and a fried chicken entree w a chopped veg salad. Also, fries and we tried all the accompanying and offered sauces. The habanero was sweet and had a nice spice presence. None of the other sauces were especially memorable. Menu offerings are a pretty good mix and include plenty of the standard expected fare. Things were made in reasonable timing, well prepared and nice looking, if spartan. Our items all came on mini aluminum trays, the fries in a little aluminum basket. This seems to be a popular, non fussy method with many quick serve places. Good amount of seating inside as well as the outside covered patio. I guess our prevailing thought was just: nothing was very standout or memorable. The fried chicken had a great crunch but not much flavor. 3 pieces and a side for 14.99 is fair. A fried chicken sandwich w over easy egg for ~ 11.00, decent value. But honestly, Chik fil A gives a larger tastier fried piece that fully fills a bun. If this enterprise can latch onto a more signature seasoning and flavor forward model, maybe incorporate a side or 2 that's a tad unique and stake out a reason to patronize them over other chicken-centric menus, I think they have a sustainable concept. read more

Fried chicken is one of my absolute favorite foods, and Proposition Chicken really delivers. Their consistency never disappoints, the chicken is always crispy, juicy, and flavorful. The chicken strips were unfortunately dry. The wedges were great too. Friendly service and comfortable seating and dining environment (aka good spacing of chairs and civilized clientele). Nothing I'd say was really special tasting about the sandwich. The breast was a good size but too dry. Even with the sauce it was too dry. Wow! My husband and I were so impressed. We went to West Portal's Proposition Chicken for lunch today and it was so good! Personally, I don't normally eat fried food but I splurged and ordered the fried chicken entree which comes with a delicious tomato and cucumber salad, a biscuit and a spicy dipping sauce, and three huge pieces of chicken. It was so hot and crunchy and mouth-watering! The restaurant itself is new, clean, and large, and you can sit inside or outside. The outside seating is covered above with a nice fireplace "heater" for those foggy days. Service was perfect. We already are talking about going back to try the roasted chicken. And if you're vegetarian, they have tofu chicken! Ice cold sodas served in chilled glasses...can't beat that! All in all, 100% will go back. read more

The restaurant itself was spacious with high ceilings and cushy seats, even for a Friday night. Chicken was just ok. I was the only one in the restaurant. I ordered my chicken and asked for BBQ sauce to go with it. I ordered a side to go along with it. $27. For one persons meal. I did get 3 big pieces of chicken which i could have shared with someone but still. Thats a bit much for a chicken and biscuit meal. What earned them one less star was the fact that i ordered BBQ sauce and they forgot. Im the only customer in the place and you forget? They did have a little salad in the meal but it was awful.
