Flipped Chicken Salad with Sweet Buttermilk Biscuit

The main 3 entrees (plate, sandwich, salad) are usually pretty consistent choices. I've had all three and the chicken was juicy and had great flavor. I usually order the Brussels sprouts along with my meal which is also consistently delicious with the amazing sweet glaze. The only coin flip here is the biscuits; Some days it's the best biscuit I've ever had: with a hot crispy sweet glazed exterior and a moist interior while other days: it's dry, lukewarm, and has no crisp. Overall, the place is 4.5 stars, great place for a fast lunch or dinner.

I've been to other locations of this popular chain, which offers a value proposition based on a panoply of poultry options. Oh yes, I've had their chicken fried, flipped, in salad bowls, and as wings and strips. All the choices I had made were quite satisfying, but I had never tried their "fake" option. I decided to take advantage of a location I had never been and ordered the $14.75 Fake Chicken Salad. Yes, they actually call it that because it's their veggie option. The chicken was replaced by Crispy BBQ Tofu, though the rest of the salad had their familiar ingredients - kale, romaine, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, mint, shredded Parmesan, and their house Parmesan dressing (Photo 8). It didn't quite work because I think the sweet BBQ sauce was at odds with the salty Parmesan flavor. I did violate my veggie meal with the $6.50 cup of Bone Broth (Photo 7), but the deep flavor made the poultry detour worthwhile. FOOD - 3 stars...the BBQ sauce didn't quite cut it for me, though the crispy tofu was a nice alternative AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...pretty much the same layout as the other locations SERVICE - 3 stars...a bit on automatic pilot TOTAL - 3 stars...back to poultry for me RELATED - Exploring the Sunset? Back when I first heard that the Lemonade that was here had closed, I was bummed out. Not so much because of them folding, as my one and only visit never gave me a reason to return, but because I worried their fairly prominent space along West Portal would sit empty for an extended period of time. Thankfully, those fears never really came to fruition and even only added to my excitement to see that Proposition Chicken was going to be moving in! While I try to make it a point to support mom-and-pop restaurants, it's awesome to see one of my go-to chicken spots show one of my favorite neighborhoods some love! Inside, the look and feel of this place is as different as it is familiar. The former because it hardly resembles Lemonade and their cafeteria-style set-up; the latter because the current decor is practically identical to the Proposition Chicken in Laurel Village. However, one thing that this location has to offer is their patio/outdoor seating, which is terrific on sunny days and warm autumn nights. As for the menu, it has all of the same enticing options - salad, entree, or sandwich options with your choice of fried chicken, roasted chicken, or fried tofu, a solid mix of wings, strips, and sides, and breakfast sandwiches (served until 11am) for anyone dropping in to start their day. -- FLIPPED CHICKEN SALAD - Slow Roasted Chicken, Kale, Romaine, Cucumbers, Cherry Tomatoes, Mint, Shredded Parmesan, Black Pepper Parmesan Dressing...$14.75 A little different from what I remember, but not in a bad way. Rather than the shreds of rotisserie chicken that I recall getting before, this one came with small chunks of roasted chicken instead. A little drier in that sense, but I liked the nicely browned crust on them. -- FRIES with Crispy Sage and Malted Mayo...$4 While not quite as good as the first time I had this before, this was still pretty solid. Sadly, the fries weren't quite as crispy this time (they felt thicker than I remember), but they were still nicely seasoned and not too oily. -- FRIED CHICKEN SALAD - Fried Chicken with Signature Herb & Spice Blend, Kale, Romaine, Cucumbers, Cherry Tomatoes, Mint, Shredded Parmesan, Black Pepper Parmesan Dressing...$14.75 Pretty good, but, ironically, while I usually favor fried chicken (just like everyone else...), I actually thought this was better with their Flipped Chicken. Given how relatively light the salad felt, the chicken felt a little heavy and out of place. I'd still happily eat this again, though. -- FRIED CHICKEN ENTREE with Sweet Buttermilk Biscuit and Tomato Cucumber Salad...$15.75 Mostly great the first time I had this, but hit or miss this time. On the plus side, the drumstick and thigh were decently juicy and I LOVED the biscuit (super moist). However, the batter was a bit hard/thick and was more crunchy than crispy. The breast and salad were fine. Since neither Laurel Village nor West Portal are all that tough when it comes to parking, both locations are super convenient. However, while the former might be slightly easier at night (tons of spaces open up by dinner time), it's hard to beat getting off of the underground and grabbing a bite at the latter. Proposition Chicken, I'll inevitably see you again soon!

Same great spacey atmosphere, same hip-hop songs floating around, and the same cooking oil that's been used to manufacture biodiesel fuel, Proposition Chicken had set its nest near West Portal Station to replace LEMONADE. This time, I been thinking about savoring one of the side dishes for takeout. Introducing: Deep Fried Onion Rings!! Crispity, crunchy, and finger lickin' great with the same awesome spice used for fried to fake chicken! One bite was only good when it's fresh and crispy in day one. Glad to see some of the customers dining thanks to the efforts of Proposition Chicken. Maybe next time, I might try out the chicken wings for takeout.

Really like the space. The fried chicken is really good with extra crisp crust that's more fish fry than the traditional chicken-fried style. Didn't really care for the salad the entree meal seems like it would pair better with the fries or chips better. Staff is attentive and the menu has a good selection will be back to try out their new offerings.

I finally stopped by this place for lunch. I ordered the entree, which comes with three pieces of chicken, a side salad, and a biscuit. You get to choose how the chicken is prepared, fried, grilled, or tofu, and I went with fried. Honestly? So, so good. When I think about fried chicken in SF, this is easily top two for me. The breading was light and airy but still perfectly crispy, with seasoning that made every bite satisfying without being heavy. The side salad that came with it was super fresh, with cucumbers and tomatoes, which balanced the richness of the chicken really well. The biscuit was good but not my favorite part of the meal. I also added on a side of fries, and they came with an aioli dipping sauce that I couldn't stop eating. No complaints there. I tried the bone broth too, which was savory and packed with umami. Perfect for sipping outside on a nice day, it added a cozy touch sitting out on their patio. The outdoor seating area itself is great, clean and well-kept, with a fire pit for chillier afternoons. Service was another highlight. The person taking my order walked me through the menu, made suggestions, and even checked in on me while I was eating. Everything felt friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Between the quality of the food and the comfortable setting, this place is an easy repeat visit for me. Our first time trying Proposition Chicken and I was very pleasantly surprised. I know there are a few locations around the city and this one replaced the Lemonade. Food prices in SF these days can be a little bonkers and it has become increasingly harder to find a value meal out there but I thought the fried chicken entree for $15.75 was affordable and well portioned. The fried chicken batter was a little less flavorful than I expected but I ended up dipping it in the sauce that came with it and that was delicious. The fry was done well and the chicken paired nicely with the cucumber tomato salad and cornbread like biscuit! All very tasty and I went home with a decent amount of leftover chicken. The onion rings for $7 wasn't the biggest portion but apparently during happy hour it's only $5. We came for dinner and I have to commend all the employees since they were hustling being slammed with Ubereats and/or Doordash as well as regular takeout orders and us. We opted to eat in and they apologized for our wait which I didn't think was bad. Efficient service and it came with a smile and friendly attitude. Kudos to you guys! We also got the Peach Masala iced tea which was another winner. Would totally recommend this place for an easy lunch or dinner and looking at their menu they apparently also serve breakfast sandwiches so breakfast as well. Lots of seating both in and out. I'm still on the lookout for good chicken sandwich places in this city, so I finally decided to try this place. Anyways, I ordered it for to-go around 4pm on a Saturday and there wasn't much of a wait. I ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich and also the Garlic Thyme Potato Wedges. Both items tasted good and I liked how the chicken sandwich had a slight spice to it! I want expecting the chicken sandwich to have that spice to it, but I still enjoyed eating it. I also thought it was cool how the potato wedges came with some type of ranch sauce, since I'd assume they would give me ketchup instead. The potato wedges were good too and was still crispy when I ate it. I'd recommend this place! The service is quick and the food was good. The chicken sandwich also had coleslaw inside it which gave it a nice crunch.

There is a silent war happening in San Francisco. This secret war has been happening for years but there is more joining this war. This food war has no allies . This war also includes a Colonel named Saunders and a Sailor named Popeye. The war I speak of is the fried chicken war. There are different types of chicken places opening up around San Francisco and restaurants have it's their secret weapons of fried chicken on their menus. There are even national chains like Raising Canes who are currently building up for their arsenal at Stonestown in San Francisco. This chicken war cannot be complete without another chicken proposition. This proposition is known for their peace ( piece) of chicken. On last Fryday ( Friday) of January in 2026 stroll shopping around and wandering what to eat, I ran into Proposition Chicken at West Portal. I know the Super Bowl game is upon us but I haven't tried this location of Proposition Chicken. I only tried Proposition Chicken at the Laurel Village. This location has outside and inside seating. I wanted try their chicken strips. They were a bit moist and not too breaded and paired well dipped with their sauces. They have a sauce station and they do offer some different sauces like ranch and bbq and blue cheese like some in SF. I next tried their onion rings. These rings came in different round shapes. They were crispy and soft. They were tasty dipped in sauce . I washed down with ice tea.Next time I will try their crispy matzo ball soup. Make sure to gear up with lots of napkins because this chicken war can get very messy and you may get splattered with sauce. So peace ( piece ) out with some chicken. San Francisco is expanding and Raising Canes is opening up a new "store "this is part of the secret "fried chicken war "which is hard to "ignore "and watch more fried chicken get eaten and more sauce "pour" Come here solo or in a "group" it's a chicken war and get a piece and get a part of a "coup "when I go to KFC I see Colonel Saunders but I see no "troop " but I will also go to Proposition Chicken for a peace ( piece) of their "crispy chicken matzo ball soup"

New chicken sandwich place opened up at West Portal area in Sunset. We ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich and an order of the chicken wings for lunch. Instead of friend chicken, you can also order rotisserie chicken or a vegetarian option with BBQ crispy tofu. If having a sandwich isn't your thing, you can also order it as a salad or entree. The sandwich was a decent size with a big piece of chicken that was crispy. The sandwich came with minor condiments like some shredded lettuce and some sauce. I did find the chicken a little dry but overall enjoyed it. On the other hand, the BBQ wings were underwhelming. Not crispy at all nor had any smoky bbq flavors. Just some baked wings slapped with some sauce. Not even sure if the wings were seasoned. Very disappointed and I would recommend skipping. The wings came with some carrots and celery sticks that but those did not taste fresh either.

Chicken is dry. If you're doing chicken restaurant you need to nail moist chicken. Otherwise it is unpleasant to chew on dry white meat. The bone broth tasted like pan drippings. Not clear broth. I won't repeat. read more

Friendly service and the menu is simple and easy to order from. We ordered a biscuit, fries and two chicken sandwiches. One sandwich rotisserie chicken and one crispy chicken. They have habanero and hot sauce to add to the sandwiches. I really liked the habanero sauce and I would say their barbecue sauce has a unique flavor. They also, offer vegetarian options with tofu. Fried chicken is one of my absolute favorite foods, and Proposition Chicken really delivers. Their consistency never disappoints, the chicken is always crispy, juicy, and flavorful. Pairing it with a sweet buttermilk biscuit and a fresh tomato cucumber salad makes for a meal that hits all the right notes. The only reason I can't give it a full five stars is that, while the food is reliably great, the overall experience doesn't always stand out beyond the plate. Still, if you're craving fried chicken done right, this is one of the best spots to count on. read more

We shared the fried chicken sandwich, chicken strips, and potato wedges. The sandwich was terrific. Excellent bun and fried chicken with a great Cole slaw topping. The chicken strips were unfortunately dry. The wedges were great too. Friendly service and comfortable seating and dining environment (aka good spacing of chairs and civilized clientele). Fix the chicken strips and you'll do well. Everything was quite reasonably priced which will go a long way to get returning customers as long as the food quality doesn't decline. read more

Review for fried chicken sandwich and chips only. Hubby bought a couple of the fried chicken sandwiches to try. They're fairly large size. I got home and split a half with him. It was OK. Nothing I'd say was really special tasting about the sandwich. The breast was a good size but too dry. Even with the sauce it was too dry. I'd be interested in visiting the store which used to be the site of former Lemonade restaurant chain as it has a lot of dining space. Might try the chicken tenders next time. read more

Everyone hated their chicken plate. Chicken was dry, very dense with a hard battered coating. No flavor either. Just awful. Tomato cucumber salad was also bland. Brussels were just ok. Wow! My husband and I were so impressed. We went to West Portal's Proposition Chicken for lunch today and it was so good! Personally, I don't normally eat fried food but I splurged and ordered the fried chicken entree which comes with a delicious tomato and cucumber salad, a biscuit and a spicy dipping sauce, and three huge pieces of chicken. It was so hot and crunchy and mouth-watering! The restaurant itself is new, clean, and large, and you can sit inside or outside. The outside seating is covered above with a nice fireplace "heater" for those foggy days. Service was perfect. We already are talking about going back to try the roasted chicken. And if you're vegetarian, they have tofu chicken! Ice cold sodas served in chilled glasses...can't beat that! All in all, 100% will go back. read more

My partner and I were so pleasantly surprised by this spot. The service was unexpectedly welcoming, patient, warm, and friendly. The restaurant itself was spacious with high ceilings and cushy seats, even for a Friday night. The food was delicious -- especially the rotisserie chicken (moist and tasty even without adding sauces) and corn bread. And they served with real plate ware and silverware. All this for what felt like closer to "fast food" prices. It was nourishing for body and soul. We haven't visited the other locations, but this West Portal spot clearly takes pride in what they do. Very glad Proposition Chicken opened up in West Portal! The space is stylish and fun, but more importantly, the food was great. I got a fried chicken sandwich, which was delicious, especially with a side of their habanero hot sauce. I love their sage potato chips, as well. Very homemade style. I've had their tofu salad at another location and loved it and I'm excited to try it here next time. Service was quick and friendly. Looking forward to coming back! read more

Not sure what the point is to tell people their online orders are ready for pickup when you end up having to wait 10 min for them to bag it... Turns out they "misclicked" the ready notification... still irritating but mistakes do happen. Changed my review from a 2 to a 3 after eating my sandwich... it tasted pretty good! read more

Chicken was just ok. I was the only one in the restaurant. I ordered my chicken and asked for BBQ sauce to go with it. I ordered a side to go along with it. $27. For one persons meal. I did get 3 big pieces of chicken which i could have shared with someone but still. Thats a bit much for a chicken and biscuit meal. What earned them one less star was the fact that i ordered BBQ sauce and they forgot. Im the only customer in the place and you forget? They did have a little salad in the meal but it was awful. The cucumber was mushy so it was old. I spit that out of my mouth immediately. There were also 2 little containers with oil and green stuff in it. Not sure what that was but it wasn't BBQ. read more

First time to West Portal, and first time at Proposition Chicken, which was delicious! The order taker (was it the owner?) was very kind and helpful, and the three of us enjoyed the following: onion rings (the sauce was perfect with the crispy onion rings), the fried chicken sandwich, the fried chicken salad, and the grilled chicken salad. I saved half of the fried chicken sandwich, heated it up the next day and it was still delicious. Thanks for such a great new dining experience. Wish I lived closer! read more

Ambiance: Very casual chic, the space is large and yet feels so cozy. 10/10 Service: is excellent, everyone is cheerful and happy that you're there. Very different vibe from other popular neighboring restaurants that are no where near as welcoming. 100 points on that alone. Food: OmG! Yummmm! When my boyfriend and I went (yes, in person) we tried the "flipped" grilled chicken, the fried chicken sandwich, the chicken matzo soup, the spicy slaw, the biscuits, the Brussels sprouts, the potat... and wow! We were so impressed! Truly flavorful and delicious. My teenage son is a huge fan of the PC in Laurel Heights, and now we are all GREAT fans of the WP restaurant, too!! read more

Live near by, so off I went to try this new Chicken eatery. I had the rotisserie chicken, served with a muffin and a tomatoes & cucumber salad, for drink I ordered a Lemonade. ($21, including a $3 tip.) The place inside is bright and cheerful with tables and chairs, or you can eat on the covered patio. The music (Jamaican reggae little too loud for me!) The food, the chicken tasty, moist and well roasted, except for the skin, soft and rubbery, too bad that would have been extra point. The muffin excellent fresh & hot out of oven, The small tomatoes and cucumbers salad good. I didn't care for the service tray/plate, for a sandwich ok, for rotisserie chicken a plate would be more convenient. The Lemonade was good. I have to mention that my order took 10 minutes which is fine, but the place was quiet, so wondering in busier times how long will the order take ?? Took my 1.5 year old here last night and it was the best dining experience we've had with him. They brought us over a highchair and crayons and my kid with multiple food allergies was able to dine safely thanks to the gluten free options. He sat in his highchair the whole time, danced away and ate his chicken tenders. The dressing was light, and I added a little "kick" with some buffalo sauce on the side. Fantastic! I was incredibly delighted when I found out that Proposition Chicken was opening another location in SF! I actually live closer to their other location in the Presidio neighborhood, but found myself in West Portal on a recent weekend. I'm a HUGE fan of their fried chicken sandwiches- the portions are fantastic and the chicken is so flavorful and juicy! I just wanted to write a quick review of this new Proposition Chicken spot in West portal, San Francisco, Ca. I recently attended the grand Opening with few family members and was pleasantly surprised by the cool, fresh vibe and open wall that faced the entrance.Food and service both great. The wait staff was working tirelessly with smiles on their faces while handling the large crowd of customers that came for the event. Everyone was friendly, the atmosphere was happy and the food was really delicious! I tried the Fried chicken meal, which was very tasty, crispy well seasoned fried chicken with Corn muffins that were moist and flavorful and sweet potato fries. So I heard this place from coworker and my wife tried it without me. She had some type of salad and since she likes fried chicken, we had it one night. Perfect if you want a sandwich that's both hearty and fresh. The Oxbridge Special is mildly spicy and the roast beef in it is savory and juicy. Definitely come by if you're ever in the area!

We loved that the noodles were served warm. Most versions we've had elsewhere are closer to room temperature, so this was a very nice surprise. Once mixed together, the dish was so flavorful. Our food arrived quickly, but midway through the meal we realized we had forgotten to order a vegetable dish. We added the stir-fried eggplant which unfortunately seemed to throw off the timing a bit and didn't arrive until near the end of our meal. By then, we were already stuffed, and the eggplant was a little too salty on its own. I think it would have paired much better with rice or noodles. Lesson learned for next time! We visited on a Thursday evening and were lucky enough to find street parking shortly after 6 p.m. We were seated immediately, but a line started forming not long after. So definitely come early!

**Overall Rating: 5/5 ** I am normally **not** a fan of fried chicken at all, but after hearing endless praise about Proposition Chicken, I had to give it a try. I am so glad I did! The fried chicken completely lived up to the hype--it was incredibly crunchy on the outside, yet perfectly soft and juicy on the inside. My friends all ordered different items from the menu, and everyone absolutely loved their meals. The portion sizes were just right, and it was so good I even took my leftovers home! We came with a large group of 16 people, and the service was still excellent. The food came out remarkably fast for a group of our size. While some of our party chose to sit inside, a few of us sat at the outdoor tables. The vibes outside were wonderful--perfect for people-watching while enjoying a great meal. What makes this place even better is their **Non-Profit Monday** initiative. They donate 10% of all dine-in sales to a specially selected local charity every Monday. If you haven't had Proposition Chicken you should try it. I normally don't eat fried chicken but this one is so crispy on the outside and tender inside. I order the fried chicken meal which comes with cucumber salad and a biscuit for $15.75. The bone broth is $6.50 and is so rich and hearty! I live 5 minutes from the West Portal location so it is a no brainer. I have been coming here every week since I first tried them in December. Service is quick and the place is very clean. Mark, the manager on site is constantly in the front handling orders and cleaning up. The service is friendly, quick and efficient and the place is clean and tidy.
