We of course understand that some food choices may not be available at the time we place our orders, but as a courtesy we do expect either a phone call or message to inform us of the menu item that is not available, instead of finding out after we received our delivery that a crude scribbled message on the lid of the eatery's substitution that they were out of what we ordered. No messages in any form to advise us. And their replacement item was horrible and deposited straight into the trash. There's a lot of good restaurants in this area. The Salad Place has been on my list to try for a while. The restaurant was empty at 1:30pm. They were out of corned beef. Instead, I ordered a pastrami sandwich on dutch crunch $12.50 and a large soup of the day, which was chicken noodle (Wednesday) $9. The food came out quick. My sandwich came out warm. If given the option, I would have preferred cold. It was a good sandwich. Next time, I'll skip the pickles & pepperoncinis. It added a pickled tangy taste. The sandwich came with a little side salad with Italian dressing. The highlight was the chicken noodle soup. Clearly, it was made in-house from scratch with chunks of chicken, mushy vegetables, herbs and a wide pasta type noodle. It was a hearty soup. Service was excellent. Pure food I got the avocado bacon egg sandwich, which was like $13 they ended up adding bell peppers, spinach, cheese all included which was such a treat. $3 iced coffee is unheard of these days, also 10/10. Perfect drinks--my husband and I always get a vanilla latte or milkshake. Oscar and his wife kindly greet us when we come in, help us choose a drink, and always check in to see what else we need. The combination salad plate is the way to go (to share) with a choice of any four salads. And if it's a chilly San Francisco day...their choice of soup is 'icing on the cake' so to speak! Of our selections, the albacore salad was sumptuous and filling, but the tomato soup was the best find - thick, rich, lots of fragrant basil. It's incredibly sad to me when places I'm looking at to get catering from have the most rude people answering the phones. This place was so good for brunch kinda food! I can't speak for the pork belly sandwich and cobb salad, but I myself loved the lox bagel sandwich and chicken tortilla soup. The lox was PACKED with toppings: cucumbers, tomatoes, capers, onions, cream cheese, smoked salmon - it was actually bomb and stuffed! The soup too had a ton of flavor, so not dissapointed. Extra: Heard from my dad the pork belly was pretty good. The complaints from my mom's Cobb salad was the lack of tomatoes, avocadoes, and other toppings unfortunately. This was a charmer of a spot and an accidental find as I happened to be nearby at a flooring store and was looking for some lunch.
