Such a pretty place right on the water. We had reservations at 8:30pm on a Friday night and took our chances to see how long the walk up wait would be at 7pm, and upon our arrival, they were able to seat us right away. Our server was just the sweetest girl I've ever met; wish I got her name, just so incredibly genuine and friendly. She told us the specials and warned us right away that if we were interested in the chicken that it would take at least 30 minutes, which I was grateful for because that is exactly what I was going to order. She took our drink order and I told our server that I was just going to take a sip of my hubby's wine, to which she then offered to bring an extra glass for me and serve our wine in a small carafe so that we could pour and distribute our wine between us at our own desire. Food was absolutely terrific too. I was gobbling up the rosemary bread before our food came, yum. Hubby ordered the special tomato tarte which was made with mascarpone: so incredibly sweet and yummy. I started with the crab and shrimp cakes, also good. For entrees, hubby ordered the special grilled halibut with heirloom tomatoes and it was simply outstanding. The halibut and the tomatoes just went so well together. My chicken was also quite good, although the white meat was just a tad bit on the drier side, but not a game changer. It is such a pity that this restaurant doesn't take the full appreciation of the beautiful location they are in. Provence Marinaside is one of the Very few restaurants that are on the seawall near David Lam Park with a beautiful view of False Creek and unfortunately in my opinion I think that is all they are good for. Their food quality was definitely not up the standards that I expected. I really don't understand why there are such rave reviews about this restaurant. Their service is mediocre at best and their food is quite bland and dry. I'm a huge fan of french cuisine but didn't receive any food that I enjoyed and there was a lot more italian inspiration that I saw than French. Their meatballs were very dense and extremely dry which was trying to hide under the copious amounts of sauce but failed to do so. The calamari was quite greasy and had a plain fatty mayonnaise sauce on the side. Their beef dip is considered one of their entrees along with pastas and fish when really it's just an over glorified sandwich. I really wish that Provence Marinaside would get new owners or a new chef because they're really wasting the space of that beautiful location and it's too bad since they're considered "award-winning" where I believe their only merit/badge of honour is the lucky draw of the location. read more

This is defiantly one of the best places for brunch in Vancouver! Went for the second time over the weekend for my MOM's birthday and it was even better than the first time I had been there a couple months ago. The staff is amazingly accommodating and on top of anything u may need from them, (taking my stroller to the back room to store and bringing out fruit ahead of all the food for my daughter)! And to top off the amazing service, the food is perfection; everything looks god and tastes even better. I came here for a birthday party and arrived quite a bit later than the rest. By then they had all received their food and almost finished eating. We were on a time schedule that night and I was worried my order would come super late and cause the rest of our plans to be delayed (although it's my fault) but to my surprise the kitchen pumped out my food super fast! Well, my friends - as it turns out - Provence Marinaside is just as veggie friendly as any other restaurant out there (And I suppose you have to be to stay in business in Vancouver)... but I was still pretty impressed. The view here is amazing, this is a great place to bring guests or go for a business related meal. The food is simple and honestly not that great but it is passable, I expected a lot more from the staff here, and they were not up to "Yaletown Standards" or any standard really. I asked some questions about menu items and instead of trying to answer my questions kept looking around and being non attentive. The food here is simple, yet good. You can tell that they use fresh ingredients since the flavors shine through in everything they cook. I really wish that I was able to gain some insight and help on making choices since there were a lot and I settled for a simple eggs benny. Looking around at other tables I saw a lot of delicious crepes and other dishes that I wish I tried. The food was really good, the eggs were cooked perfectly and the sauce was one of the best I've ever had. Great breakfast food honestly. I was here for a meeting and honestly it was one of the best venues for a nice meal and meeting as the views and ambiance were spot on. The only thing that bugged me was the non-existent service. Provence, you have good food but your service is lacking, major. The only reason why you have 2 stars is because your food is so fresh and delicious, but I still refuse to come back because your service is so bad, that I have to tell all my friends about my experience and stop them if they ever want to go. I used to come often for brunch, and I used to recommend this place often. They have one of the best patios and is great for people watching in the summer. Their food never really disappoints. Tip, if you don't get a bread basket, you have to ask for it. It's free, but they don't always give it to you. I assume it's an environmental thing, which I think all restaurants should have. Ask for bread, and you shall receive. Why waste bread that no one eats? The last time I came here for brunch with a friend of mine, it was the worst service I've ever had in my life. So bad that I even wrote an email to the owner, NO response. Surprise! We sat down, ordered our food, and I asked for a bread basket. Didn't come. Our food came after a while, I asked for the bread basket again, didn't come. It look me 10 mins just to flag down our waitress, who was middle aged and seemed like she didn't care about her job. I didn't know whether I should start eating my food or wait for the bread, in which case my food would get cold. Weirdest thing was, our waitress was serving everyone around us, but not us. For the life of me I couldn't wave her down. I couldn't help but think that maybe it's because we're Asian? Everyone else was Caucasian. Coincidence? Who knows. Finally, we got our bread, but we had already finished our meal. Whatever. We're Asian, we like free bread. It took us another 10 mins to flag down the server to refill our water. Get this, when she refilled our water, she missed the glass and poured water ALL OVER OUR TABLE, and just walked away. No apology, nothing. Just poured water all over the table. Seriously? Another 15 mins to get the bill. Worst experience ever. I've never been made to feel so invisible at a restaurant. We were seated in the patio while waiting for our table and we asked our server if we can move to our table but he just kept saying it's not ready. our server was rude and gave us the worst service! When the table was ready, Instead of walking us, he just pointed and told us "YOU'RE TABLE's Right there at the end. We're so glad he didn't help us after that. Benoit came to save the night! He was amazing so we ended up having fun and enjoyed the food. However, around 11:00-11:30 the management started getting loud, and we noticed that they were drinking. Which is weird because isn't the law only allow liquor service until 10pm? and why were the management drinking while working? DINNER - Dine Out Vancouver 2013 (Note that their DOV menu is served until March 3, 2013) Having been fairly disappointed with DOV, I was pleasantly surprised with my experience at Provence Marinaside. I had low expectations going in. Firstly because of DOV, secondly because the good Yelp reviews are mostly based on their brunch service, and thirdly because I recognized the restaurant immediately before stepping in and remembered that I didn't like the Bouillabaisse (though that was a couple of years ago)! For $38, the DOV menu is excellent value. The Beef Tenderloin entree by itself on the regular menu is $33. Desserts are regularly at the $10 mark. Throw in an appetizer, and Bob's your uncle. Appetizers: this was the weakest link of the 3 courses. All selections were a mixed green salad, with a different "topping." I still enjoyed my Tomato & Bocconcini - very fresh tasting. Bf thought the best one was the Warm Goat Cheese Salad - goat cheese was baked, which was unusually made, and apparently the cheese isn't too strong (though I didn't taste this). Entrees: I stayed away from the Bouillabaisse, lol. My Grilled Salmon was a big portion. A tad dry though. Lovely sides, I especially enjoyed the vinaigrette mushrooms. I also had bites of the Beef Tenderloin, which I would recommend over the salmon. Desserts: were amazing! Highly highly recommend the Berry & White Chocolate Clafoutis (French-style cake); it's served warm with ice cream! My own Raspberry Creme Brulee and bf's Tiramisu were also delicious. This my favourite place for brunch. This isn't some hip joint where the decor is minimalist and cool and it isn't the place to been seen, to be heard and to gawk at the hostess. This is a sophisticated, traditional restaurant where the main goal is to relax, enjoy the view and set forth on a wonderful dining experience. The food is savoury, the service is stellar and the ambiance is relaxing. I admit, I don't come to Provence as often as I would like. If I had a choice, I'd be here every weekend. I don't think I've ever been to this place without having to wait a couple of minutes for a seat - but this is fine, since I always enjoy looking at their offerings in the antipasto section that is showcased for individuals who just want to grab their treasures and enjoy them at home. The antipasto section is a good teaser of what is to come. There are several varieties of grilled vegetables, herring and a wide array of olives. Also present to tease the eye and the stomach are the desserts. I stare at them with wide eyes and a bit of fear knowing that I will soon be wrestling with the decision of either ordering the Lavender and Grand Marnier cheese cake or the Berry and White Chocolate Clafoutis. The view is spectacular. I can't say enough about how much I enjoy seeing people enjoy their day walking around false creek with their groceries, their dog, their loved ones, or sitting by the marina engrossed in the plot of their book. I'm always sitting there, with a mouthful of the Merguez panini or a bite of the Wild Mushroom Ravioli hoping the people who have provided me with my people watching are entertainment are enjoying their day as much as I am enjoying my brunch. read more

Want good service? Go somewhere else. The extra star is for the patio, which is lovely during summers when a lot can be forgiven over a couple of glasses of wine and a beautiful sunny day. It's too bad for Provence that sunny days in Vancouver are few and far between, meaning on most days its hard to forgive their horrendous service. Popped in this weekend with some out-of-town friends for lunch. The first part of our meal was pretty standard and our server was perfectly unexceptional as she basically disappeared after dropping off our food. My coffee cup then sat empty for the entire meal, almost 45 minutes, until I managed to get the attention of another server (and half the patrons in the restaurant) by yelling "Excuse Me!" three times to get her attention when she was literally within arms reach and clearly trying very hard to ignore me. After we finished our lunch, and declined dessert, our server promptly reappeared with our bill. By then it was around 2pm, we weren't in any rush to leave, and figured we could sit and chat for a bit as the restaurant was 1/3 empty so it wasn't like they needed our table. Our server Miss. Meghan, however, seemed to think otherwise. Over the next half hour she came by three times to drop obvious, rude, passive-aggressive, eye-rolling hints that she wanted us to pay up and leave. At one point she came over and interrupted one of my friends mid-sentance by speaking over her and loudly asking, "SO can I get you some CHANGE?" It was so aggravating, that by her third visit we just wanted to get out of there. We left her with two negative comment cards and a 10% tip only because the kitchen staff held up their end of the bargain that day. Here's the thing, if she had simply told us nicely that she was going off shift and asked if we wouldn't mind settling up our bill, we would've gladly done so without hesitation. Can the servers at Cactus Club really be so much more advanced than the sorry excuses they hire at this supposed fine dining establishment? It appears so. read more

This was an all around bad experience. Rather than describe it in detail, I'll summarize: - Our waiter wasn't familiar with how the dishes were prepared. When asked about the mixed Seafood Platter: "Uh, it's lobster, so I assume you have a choice of steamed or baked" - We received butter, but no bread until 20 minutes later when we asked why we had butter. - Our main course took 45 min to come out, and none of the 4 dishes were worth the wait. I chose Provence Marinaside as the locale for my family birthday dinner this year; I had never even seen the restaurant before, but I had heard good things and most of the yelp reviews seemed favorable. However, the restaurant was not as wonderful as described; it was far better! As soon as we arrived, we were seated at a table near the window where we could seem in the marina and watch the people walking by. The wait staff was courteous, helpful, and not at all pretentious. Within seconds of seating down, four glasses of water appeared as well as an olive-anchovy tapenade to wet our appetites. We spent some time examining the menu in detail; there were so many things that we wanted to try, but we finally settled on our choices. Once the orders had been placed, we received a basket of rosemary foccacia and plain baguette, as well as a few crostini topped with a dollop of tuna spread. The first portion of our meal to arrive was a set of tapa style appetizers. We ordered the grilled artichokes, grilled asparagus, and risotto balls. They were all incredibly delicious, and beautifully presented with several olives on the side. For dinner, I ordered the Ahi Tuna; it came seared to perfection, atop a bed of grilled vegetables. I savored every bite. My family ordered the Nicoise style Grilled Salmon, the Spaghettini with Prawns and Scallops, and the Wild Pacific Salmon with a Tarragon and Mustard Glaze. Judging from the smiles on their faces and the fact that every plate was scraped clean, I would guess that their dinners were on par wit h mine. During dinner, our waitress was very good about refilling glasses and clearing dishes, without ever making us feel pressured or watched. For dessert, we ordered a Lemon Tarte and the Berry-White Chocolate Clafouti. The Clafouti came not only with a dollop of ice cream, but also with a candle and Happy Birthday written in chocolate across the plate. It was not sickly sweet or overly heavy, but instead the perfect pairing of custardy cake, tart berries, and velvety ice cream. I, who rarely finishes a full dessert on her own, was disinclined to share more than a small bite with the other members of my family. This dessert certainly comes in the league of the top ten plates I have consumed in the past year. In conclusion, thank you Provence Marinaside for a stellar dinner. Your attention to detail, your mouthwateringly delicious food, and your outstanding service created a birthday celebration that will certainly be hard to top. It may not be fair to review this restaraunt since I live on top of it, but i love it here. I've been coming here for the last 5 years at least 4 times a week. Brunch, afternoon tea, and many many dinners. The food has been consistant and the staff are wonderfull. A restaurant that keeps there regulars and staff from leaving is doing something well. I think my dissatisfaction with Provence was that I expected a bit more. If you're spending more than $30 on an entree I expect it to be great, not just good. I took a friend here for her birthday dinner. When we arrived we noticed the restaurant was pretty much empty around 7:00 p.m. on a weeknight. Even though there were only four tables occupied in the restaurant we had to flag down our server after waiting at least 10 minutes or more just to get our drink order taken. And, then it took at least another 10-15 minutes to get our food order taken.l The wine was fantastic. But, the food, the Sea Bream and Prawns, which I ordered because of the server's recommendation, was not amazing. The fish seemed overcooked and the vegetables were just okay. It was good, but I expected better for the price. My friend ordered the Crab and Lobster Bamboo Rice and noted that her dish was good, but she also expected more. We did get some great service from someone who was not our server who assisted us in moving out to the patio, even though we were the only people who made that request. This restaurant definitely has a nice ambiance. It's relaxed and dimly lit, so it would be great for a romantic evening out. But, I think it's a bit too quiet for a dinner out with friends. I might come back to see if maybe this is a better brunch or lunch place, but probably won't be back for dinner. read more

We came for Sunday brunch around noon and were seated immediately fortunately. I ordered Shrimp Benedict ($15) which came with potatoes and fruit. It was my first time having a Benedict and it was delicious. There was a hint of sourness which I assume is the sauce. Table service was great, but a little slow. They were busy and it took a while for them to get our orders and later to get our check. I also never had my water refilled and had to drink from my fiance's cup. Our waiter was great though and even gave us a tip to make sure we didn't get sick from leftovers we take home. Parking here it seems can be a little though since there's no parking lot, so you might have to walk a bit. read more

I was expecting more from Provence Marinaside because it looked and sounded so promising. Sadly I was quite disappointed but would still come back to give it another chance, maybe for brunch. I took Melissa C. here for afternoon tea ($22/person) and we both agreed that it was nothing special (to me, when a place takes your cc number at the time of reservation to seal the deal, it brings the level of expectation up). The tea was very traditional and the food was average. I appreciate that they make everything fresh and nothing is prepared in advance but that didn't make up for the flavor of the food. Everything was just okay and the scones were absolutely the tiniest scones ever. For afternoon tea, I would much rather go to the Secret Garden. Service was friendly and they did accommodate our tea reservation even though there was a private event that day. I thought the decor was VERY outdated and I just wasn't impressed. This is a nice spot to come on a sunny Vancouver day so you can sit out on the patio and enjoy the view of False Creek. The location is prime as you can take a stroll along False Creek with short walks to David Lam or Coopers Park or go towards downtown into Yaletown. read more

I am giving this a one star for service. So disappointing! Went for brunch and it was quite busy, and as I was the first of my party to arrive, I put my name down with one of the hosts and proceeded to stand out front on the sidewalk. When groups were being called in, I noticed that the hostess or host would go right up to the group and bring them in, so I thought it was great that they put a face to a name when they wrote you down on the wait list. Regardless, I could see the front desk from where I was standing, and was wearing a vivid coloured dress so I would definitely be hard to miss. But then I waited and waited... The rest of my party arrived, and I inquired about the table. The hostess (who hadn't originally taken down my name) responded that they had called out my name, but no one responded. I replied that I had been standing out front the entire time and did not hear anyone call me. She replied in a patronizing manner that because I missed my call, there were now a few tables ahead of me. Now, at this point, I should have just walked away. Regardless of whether they skipped me because my entire party had not arrived, or whether there was some chance I did miss hearing my name, what's with penalizing my group for making us go to the back of the line? But I didn't want to ruin the day for the rest of my party, so we stayed. We were finally seated at an awkward table where we all had to dust off the crumbs on the chairs before we sat down, and where my chair kept getting bumped by the servers as they passed. I've been to Provence a few times before, but that day will definitely be my last. read more

Day 7/30: 30-day Oct yelp challenge I first reviewed this place 4 years ago, and it's still in my regular rotation of restaurants! Provence Marinaside remains my favorite brunch place in the city and the menu and service has remained consistent over the years. I've since been here for dinner a few times as well and food is very good. I also don't think their prices have changed much over the last few years either since yesterday's brunch choice of the vegetarian omelette was $14 for a good sized portion. This is another dinning jewel in Vancouver. We stopped here for lunch and had a fantastical meat overlooking the harbor in Yaletown. Seafood was out of this world and the service was super. Came here for Valentines day. They had a set menu that was $80 per person not including any drinks. Basically both meals are the same with a choice between lamb or fish. It was obvious that this meal was designed for tasting and not for feeding. I felt hungrier when I left then when I came in. We order the the lamb and fish so I got to try both. I can't even remember what they started with because it was too small to taste and couldn't be that good since I forgot what it was. lol The seafood sampler to share was nice to look at but nothing special in taste. Oyster was not good. Chewy and shell cracked if you touch it. The lamb and fish was ok. I was surprise how everything tasted. I heard good things about this place and nothing was great. This is the reason for the 2 stars. Service was good but I expect that for Valentines Day. Our meal was just over $200 plus tip including a few drinks. Maybe I'll have to try them again when they don't have a set menu...... nan.. read more

Provence is my favourite brunch stand-by. The food is very good, and consistently so. Their brunch menu has all the usual items you would expect, plus a few more less common ones - such as savory crepes. I have also eaten dinner here a few times and have never been disappointed. As well as having a solid menu, the staff have always been friendly and accommodating to special requests and menu substitutions. Their location on the seawall is excellent for people watching, especially if you sit on their heated patio. The restaurant was recently updated, and the decor is now a lot more modern, sleek and urban. They have wine taps as well as a few other bells and whistles. I will continue to visit when I need a no-fail brunch spot. read more

Provence Marinaside is a regular stop for me for brunch or lunch. The location is very beautiful. You really can't beat eating next to the water. The patio is a good choice for people watching in Yaletown. They serve very well prepared food. I have never been disappointed. And I appreciate their use of free-range eggs. Don't bother with their choice of ordering a selection of prepared items from their deli case, just go straight to their menu and order off that. The cooked to order meals are very well flavoured and beautifully presented. Staff are friendly and knowledgable. An excellent choice for dining. read more

Provence has an exceptional brunch - creative takes on eggs benny, fresh squeezed oj/mimosas, gorgeous orange yolked eggs, and breakfast potatos that actually taste good! The patio is fantastic on a sunny morning & the interior is spacious and family friendly (though I did see a family bringing in their own booster seat this morning, not sure if that was necessary or a personal quirk). My only complaints are that the mimosas ($8) are tiny and that the menu doesn't seem to change with the seasons - with only one vegetarian eggs benny option on the menu, it would be nice to have some seasonal variety as a repeat customer. read more
