This is a must stop when you arrive into Lihue airport on Kauai! We didn't because I didn't know where I could find gluten-free banana pancakes with coconut syrup. We had been there six days, and I had called a numerous amount of restaurants and asked for recommendations from the front desk at our resort to no avail. Until Finally, I called this restaurant and the answer was yes!! We immediately jumped in the car and drove from Princeville all the way down to Lihue for this delicious experience! It's on the Puakea golf course right around the corner from Costco going the opposite direction. Drive in and park in the large parking lot and the building is directly in front of you. You walk in to what essentially looks like a little diner, place your order there at the counter. They will seat you and place a number on your table. The first time we went there they had the air-conditioning on and we froze in the area where we sat even after we moved to another table it was still chilly. I ordered the Mochi Banana Pancakes with Coconut syrup at $12.95 or 11.95. I don't know remember which because the menu we were handed had a price different from the menu up on the board, but I have pictures of both. I honestly didn't notice the board the first trip there. Because yes, we went twice! We paid cash and I do believe we got a discount for doing that. We found most places there will give you a discount when you use cash. I received three huge fluffy pancakes topped with a little powdered sugar and slices of banana. You can get extra bananas or fruit for two dollars xtra. And a side of coconut syrup. I think they should give you more, considering the size of a pancakes but you can ask for more in that cute little container. Those were so so delicious! I could only eat one and a half! So of course I took the remaining back to the resort. Stopped by Walmart first hand bought me some coconut syrup and finished it off the next day! And I did! And why?because that's my business! Lol. My husband had the breakfast burrito which was pretty substantial as well in size. Not knowing this he also ordered a side of banana pancakes with coconut syrup. The breakfast burrito at, $16.95 came with his choice of Bacon, (other choices: Kalua Pork, SPAM or Portuguese Sausage); on a Flour Tortilla, stuffed with Breakfast Potatoes, Scrambled Eggs, Cheese, Bell Peppers, Onion, Sour Cream, Salsa & Avocado. He said the burrito was very delicious. He was humming when he took the first bite! He was only able to get through two of his pancakes, which he of course enjoyed as well. They were so good; He didn't realize his were gluten-free! The second trip was on the morning of our last day there and they were pretty backed up. We had an hour wait which was fine. The establishment was not cold this time as It was pretty comfortable. The menu is breakfast and lunch, but you can have either or at any time, and people were willing to wait. That tells you a lot. They're open from 7 AM to 6 PM daily. As we watched the other dishes come out for other people's orders and the portions were huge regardless of what you order. Seems pretty consistent, which is excellent because the price is reasonable and not that expensive. We ordered the POG (passionfruit, orange, guava) juice Both times which was tasty as usual. The only issue is you have to swat flies here and there which seems to be the going theme at any restaurant because of the open air seating. But here it's not open air and we still have a fly issue. So it's that and or chickens when you're eating. You can either hear them or see them. It's the way of the islands. Bathrooms are located outside in another building just a few feet away down the walk and were clean. Will we be back again yes! read more

Hidden gem of a casual restaurant located off the parking lot of the Puakea Golf Course. Best described as gourmet plate lunch / local food they serve breakfast all day. You order at the counter but there's a fair amount of service. They bring your drinks and food to you, and will do drink refills from your table. Food comes on real plates not takeout boxes. Therefore while you order standing up I find appropriate to tip a bit. The food is AMAZING. I had to get the side order of mochi pancakes at $6.50. It was great because they brought it out first before my main dish, the Sautéed Mahi. It's been a while since I had such good pancakes, with perfect texture, moisture and consistency. The Mahi was fantastic also. Moist and with perfect flavor. The Mac salad is unusually made with short spaghetti noodles instead of macaroni and was also terrific. I'll definitely be back. read more

Located on the grounds of Puakea Golf course selection serving breakfast, Lunch and pupus and drink specials! Went there for breakfast and tried the Loco moco which was terrific homemade hamburger patties, eggs and brown gravy over on rice it really hits the spot. My wife had the stuffed blueberry French toast and she also enjoyed her choice lots of blueberry and the French toast was moist and tasty and they had choices of syrups which she tried the coconut syrup which was very tasty. The fried Saimin noodle brought back fond memories of the olden days going to the Bon dance which was excellent if flavor and texture. The fried boneless chicken was also outstanding which they must have soaked In a special teriyaki sauce before breading and frying it. It also exceptional great for parties or taking to the beach on picnics. Also if you want a special gift to bring back from Kauai or just for your breakfast toast the sell a lilikoi jam that is also very good but from what I've heard it runs out fast. The staff there are friendly and nice! Restroom is clean you just have to go outside of the restaurant near by. Lots of parking spaces. Seating was sparse because it was busy with a long wait but it was worth it. We ordered the mochi pancakes and mini loco moco. Big mistake because even though we were full, we wished we had more loco moco to eat or take home. The patty was juicy and flavorful. The gravy was a good accompaniment and the egg was poached to perfection. Talk about the best kind of runny cooked egg. The pancake was fluffy, soft, and had nice crisp bits. The strawberry topping on top was a sweet glaze allowing you to fully enjoy the pancake flavor without an overpowered syrup. The young men who took our order and served us were sweet. We ate breakfast here twice before playing golf and both times we were very satisfied with our meals and the service. As other have mentioned, you order at the counter and they bring the food to you when it's ready. First time I had the Puakea Breakfast w/ fried rice and Portuguese sausage. Wife had the breakfast sandwich on the Hawaiian sweet bread. Wife LOVED her Breakfast sandwich!! My breakfast was pretty standard but really liked the fried rice - when on the islands I always try island style breakfast. Service was great and our drinks were refilled appropriately. Second time we shared the Breakfast sandwich and the Mochi waffles and again everything was very good. We got there shortly after they opened for an earlier tee time, so not all the help was there and service was a little slower. The girl at the clubhouse warned us that service was a little slow because of being short staffed and they have a sign at the counter to be patient due to staffing shortage. We really didn't experience any real delays. Anyway, when I come to Kauai my attitude is always to expect things to be on "island time" and I honestly I enjoy the more laid back attitude. Both times we came back after playing golf to get a couple of iced teas to go - I think it's Lillikoi flavored unsweetened iced tea - an get a scone for later. Wanted to call out the server - she may have been the manager - that helped us both times we were there. She was patient with us while looking through the menu to decide our breakfast meals and explained "mochi" to us for the waffles. She also recommended a fabulous bakery/patisserie for a "to die for" Lillikoi Ube Cheesecake. Wish I had gotten her name. We could have easily eaten breakfast here every day during our stay, even with staying in Poipu and I wish I would have tried the Ginger Fried Chicken and Waffles - definitely next time we are in Kauai! read more

I'm leaving Kauai today after a week visit and found this gem of a grill. Hands down has been the best eatery I've had the fortune to find on the island. We've tried hole in the wall, fancy, non fancy and have had a myriad of experiences but non that I would level excellent in all categories until we came here. The Kalua Pork & Lomi Salmon was good, although the Kalua pork was on the dryer side & I prefer cabbage in mine. So, we have been recommended to eat here on multiple visits by hotel staff...we were told that this is a place the locals like to eat. Have been here a few times and the food is hit or miss....the prices are very reasonable. Some of the food is really good, like the breakfast sandwich, and the pancakes were really good, but the poke salad on the other hand was really disappointing. My salad had baby lettuces with poke on top, with teriyaki and wasabi cream squirted over the top. The ahi seemed really fresh but it was not pokey it was just Ahi tuna without any sauce or seasoning, AND there was nothing else in salad, just lettuce. I think the salad is 17 or $18 for the serving but I would've been happy to pay more for it actually have other things in the salad like some onion, ginger, pickled cucumber and carrots, with furikake. The dining area by the golf course and inside is very simple but it's also clean and the service is really good... pictures of the fried chicken and some of the other dishes look amazing look, but after all three trips here I have yet to find some thing that I really enjoyed eating. read more

Had lunch here today and it was delicious! Breakfast burritos with Kailua pork I'm told were excellent but would have been nice if they came with a side. Puakea breakfast plate, the potatoes were super crispy. Side of mochi pancakes were a highlight, fluffy inside and crisp outside. Sweet bread grilled cheese for our little was a surprisingly good combination and the fries were very good too. The shoyu pork special was tender and the sauce was ono. This spot is a first come first serve basis, you seat yourself and order at the counter. They will bring the food out to your table with great service. Stuffed French toast- it's really filling and good. Toasts are soft and fluffy stuffed with both fresh strawberries and blueberries. Nicely plated with the side of syrup. Mini loco moco - think this is by far the best loco moco I've had here. The meat was seasoned with lots of flavor and the gravy was not overpowering. There's a good amount of rice to mix in well with the delicious gravy sauce. Plantation iced tea is better than the likikoi iced tea. The Plantation one has a mix of pineapple juice to make it sweet. We had lunch here on a Monday. It was super crowded probably cuz it was a holiday. Order at the counter then find a seat and wait for your food to be delivered to you. We called the restaurant prior to arriving and the staff were nice enough to reserve us a table, since we had 10 people. We really enjoy the mochi pancakes! It's my go to item when we come here. We also like the fried noodles and ginger chicken. All delicious! They also make andagi! Another delicious item!! No need to wait for bon dance season anymore. We will be back again!! Currently on their specials list, they have two different Benedicts. They are not on their online menu. One has pork, the other smoked salmon. They are legit! The hollandaise is house-made. It passed my test. I have eaten many meals at the Grill, but have never tried breakfast. Which is served all day. I now have my go-to for eggs Benedict. Much more flavor and a special touch, as compared to the plain one at Lilikoi B&G down the road. The muffin is better, the hollandaise more generous, the eggs cooked perfectly, and garnished with capers (in the case of the salmon). Two thumbs up. Lots of seating available in this casual dining setting. Walk up to the counter, place your order, pay and they bring your order to your table. Their loco moco came highly recommended so I had a mini: One good size hamburger patty with an egg done to your liking over a mound of rice with brown gravy over it or on the side. Very casual restaurant on the grounds of the Pukea Golf Course. Seems like most of the clients were there to eat and not to golf. We ordered food while golfing although there are no posted signs or menus on the golf course. The veggie breakfast burrito we ordered was singularly THE BEST breakfast burrito I've EVER eaten. It was huge and was filled with fresh eggs, potatoes, spinach, cheese, mushrooms, garlic, and avocado ( extra charge). Every bite was amazing. Service was a little tricky as I did not see a pickup window for golfers. Had to get in line behind customers that had not ordered even though I could see my order sitting in a bag on the counter. Probably a 10 minute wait which can be a problem if your golfing and there are groups behind you. People working in restaurant were very nice. Ample parking in front of restaurant. Since current owner Kristin Yanagawa took over, this okay place is frickin HOT. People come here for business lunches, regular lunches, or meals after golf. You can even rent the place out for parties (staffing costs will be incurred). Awesome menu, daily specials, SUPER friendly staff. I usually get the Portuguese sausage on a brioche bun. On this occasion, I got the ginger fried chicken and shrimp. Sometimes they have wonderful andagi (Okinawan fried donuts). read more
