The customer service at this location is excellent. When I had an issue with reserving my unit Candace was quick to resolve it. She was pleasant, informative, helpful, and efficient. She was very accommodating and offered me alternative options. When I returned on another occasion I had the pleasure of having Latasha assist me. She was attentive and helpful and quickly processed my paper work to get me in my space. I had a great experience at his Public Storage location having been assisted by Candace and Latasha. Jackie, the person who helped us with our needs could not have been more helpful. We have not moved in 37 years. Jackie was able to show us box types that we did not even know existed. She was very attentive to our needs and even explained that any boxes that we did not use could be returned. She made a rather stressful situation for us much easier with her attitude. Very cold in units. When I rented it I was told that they were climate controlled but then was told later that only the upper floor is climate controlled. Also there are no lights in the locker. You either have to bring a flashlight which makes it harder to look through the boxes if you are looking for something. If you don't have a flashlight, you have to rely on the not very bright lights in the hallway to barely shine into your locker. Once you take the lock off the door and try to slide the bar across so that the door will open, the bar does not slide easily. Same thing applies when trying to slide the bar back across to put the lock back on. Sometimes it takes a while to work the bar across. They sprayed some lubricant on it for me once and it helped the first time that I opened and closed the door but after that it was the same as it was before. I'm sure that the cold doesn't help matters any. I don't know whose job it is but someone used to send me an e-mail notification when the payment was due. They don't anymore. Maybe they want people to forget so that they can collect late fees. Generally speaking the office staff is helpful and polite and I have no problems with them. read more

This review is about Public Storage's policies not necessarily the Schiller Park location. After 6 months I received a rate increase of 15% which is an annual increase of $240.00. This was right before I had started looking at additional units since I will be moving out of my home of 30 years. I called customer service and they referred me to the district manager. The district manager and staff of individual locations have no authority to work with customers on their rates and I was pointed back to customer service. Called once again to see if they would not only like to keep the business that they currently have but if they would also like to rent an additional large unit. They were totally unable/unwilling to negotiate and said that they would rather lose the current rental and the new rental than change the new fees. I have already reserved a new unit with a different storage company which will give me a 99% discount on the first month. My savings by moving out of Public storage and going with the new unit will be at least $150.00 in the first month. They regularly increase their fees as much as twice per year. If I had rented the larger unit I would have been looking at an increase of approx. $60 - 70/month or $700-800/year in another six months. I truly believe that this is poor business policy. The ladies always call and let you know when your payments are due, awesome reminders for us busy Mothers! I had rented out a unit 10 months ago and I have been late with the payments, they have allowed me to set up payment arrangements on a decent amount of time to pay off the balance. I had the lock cut due to being late, almost in auction status. Paid off the balance and was issued another lock "no charge". In addition was given the customer service number to call and have the late fee waived! The employees really do care when it comes down to have your "whole life" in storage, and work with you to maintain your property! I felt wonderful leaving the very clean & supportive facility! Not to mention the storage facility has a sale upcoming around labor day and you may have the opportunity to move into another storage unit that is close to the one you have for 50% less of price! I moved into my 5X5 storage unit in Jan of 2015. It's been ridiculous ever since. my wife and I visited our storage unit in July at approx 8:45 to hopefully get there before it closes so that we can pick up some items that we needed. It was very dark out. While we were rummaging through our storage unit, a very odd thug looking kid entered the building. The building where my storage was located housed only maybe 8 units, it was a small building. He walked around strangely then headed toward the exit. This scared my wife who immediatley wanted to leave. When we left the building I seen the young kid in the yard and asked if he worked there. He told me no but his mom does. He then jumped in a golf car and sped off. I was upset so I called the 800 number and reported the incident. I received a call the next day from the manager who explained that this kid was her son who was helping her. So, I let it go. Approx a month later, I visited my storage unit yet again. The office was closed because it was after 6pm. When I got there my gate code did not work. I called the 800 number on the gate and spoke to customer service who was able to help me get into the yard. It took about 15 minutes. When I got to the storage unit and opened the door, some boxes which were firmly stacked, had fell toward the storage door and out when I opened the door. Now, if you look at the roofs in the storage units, it is actually a chain link fence which allows you to see down into the storage. It looks like someone was up there poking down into my stuff with a stick or something to see what was there. All I know is that my boxes and bins were firmly stacked so there is no way they would've fell by themselves. I was uncomfortable in the first place because the unit they gave me had a built in lock which they had the key for. Now, I'm not stupid. I know they have more then one key. Again I thought of this young kid from the time prior. I reported this once again and was told to file a claim with my insurance. Now we come to the final straw. In the end of November, my wife and I visited the storage unit to pick up our Christmas Tree and decorations. WHen I arrived I noticed the security gate was gone so anyone can just drive right in. Well, I went in and into my unit. I opened the door and began to take out my items to get to the tree which was placed in the back of the unit. Once I got to the tree, I looked down and there was a dead mouse laying there! Needless to say I have had it with Public Storage. I visited the office which was open, And I showed the manager a picture of the dead mouse laying there. She gave me a card and asked that I call the regional manager. I immediately removed all of my belongings from Public storage and went elsewhere. I tried for 4 days to contact the regional manager Nick ******* and left countless voicemails. I was never contacted back. I will never use Public Storage again! read more

My first problem with my storage is that the door is broken and there is nobody there to fix it for over a month now. In addition, there is a nice family of rats in the storage along with their feces all over the storage and there has yet been someone to come clean it up. I have been calling the manager many times to take care of this situation and there has been no response from him/her. I got into contact with the woman at the front desk and she was very rude to me. She told me she has nothing to do with this situation and to contact the manager of the facility. In addition to not being helpful, I told her I will not pay for this month's payment and she threatened me that she will sell my items in an auction. I have still been trying to contact the manager for weeks now, left messages, and have not heard back at all. I believe this is VERY unprofessional. I basically spent a lot of money for a storage I cannot use. read more
