My friend and I wanted to sit outside the restaurant to wait for Manni a truck driver who is meeting us, so I thought I would order something small to share with the 3 of us at "Punjabi Dhaba" we walked in together with my large lemonade and his large coke from Wendy's to order food. It took a min or so for me to scan the menu before my final answer. although I never had goat before I felt like ordering goat small $9.99 and mixed vegetable $8.99. He proceeded to request my phone number I figured he was going to text me when it was ready so I gave it to him. 1. High pressure sales: The employee or store clerk a senior looked like in his 60's kept asking if we want fresh orange juice when I kept saying "No thank you, were good". He said you want rice, I figured it went with the meal, "How many Naan? Garlic?" I replied "One." 2. He said "It will be ready in 10 min." We waited at the picnick tables outside than after a while decided to wait inside. Men, looking Indian or Punjabi speaking were served 1st. At last my food. This place servers authentic fresh and flavourful indian food, highly highly recommend. Parathas are the star in the menu. It comes with freshly churned white butter and pickles. This might be the best parathas I have had in California. If you appreciate authentic fresh Indian food, make sure you make a stop here. I also tried sweet lassi, dhal makhni and panner burji. 2/11/25 Getting lunch! I called and ordered. Small pause as a train was going by! Lol! I ordered their chicken curry, made spicy, 2 Smosas, and Mixed, Stuffed Prantha. The worker was kind and said it would be ready in 20 minutes. I went to get it shortly later! They have tables inside for seating, tv, but, it's also a mini mart. It looks like it, at least. The order was ready. Small wait in line, paid for it and handed it over with a thank you! Lunchtime! Order split. It came with white stuff. Not sure what it was? Didn't look thick enough to be yogurt and had no flavor. Definitely thrown away. Chicken curry was pretty good. Nice spice. Samosa was tasty! Definitely missing the side sauces. The lady who answered the call told me they close at 7:30, but Google shows the closing time as 8:00 pm. I went on a Friday night and reached at 6:45, only to find everything already closed and packed up. It was really disappointing after driving all the way there. Yelp and Google both had great reviews of this Dhaba. I would say, both the reviews were misleading. It's a small store and they have few sitting areas. I can see popular spot for truck driver's. We were about to leave the store then we decided to give a try despite the appearance of the place. First of all, I wouldn't say they have best customer service. And the menu doesn't have any price listed. We ordered chicken biryani, fish pokora, butter chicken and plain rice. We were paying for food right when we were ordering, they said pay later after you eat. When they called us, I went to grab the food, the old man said pay now. Gladly, I paid without hesitation. Then I realized we were missing our white rice. After dinner, I went to pay for rice and the old man said no cash only. I paid originally for the food with credit card. At the end, he was asking for cash. A small bowl of rice costed $5. Food was lacking flavors, no salt and it was horrible.My kids didn't want to eat. We ended up throwing the rest of the food. Huge but delicious Paranthas! The Indian style coffee was amazing too. Family owned business. The restaurant only has a few seats and is very low key so don't expect fine dining experience. It is true to its name of a dhaba. The prices are very reasonable for the portion size. read more

What is a Dhaba? It is a Roadside restaurant in India or Pakistan that serves Punjabi food. They can be found on highways and also serve as truck-stops, commonly found near gas stations. We had heard about this stop in Fresno and decided to give it a try for carry out food on our way from San Francisco to Los Angeles. We ordered aloo paratha (pan seared bread stuffed with potatoes and spice), mattar paneer (Indian cheese and peas, comes immersed in gravy) and chicken curry. The paratha came with yogurt and this was clearly homemade, thick and flavorful. It had a satin mouthfeel. The paratha was huge, almost 16 inches in diameter, and cost $8 each. This dish had a mild taste and freshness. Both the chicken curry and mattar paneer were different in taste and flavor as compared to run of the mill eateries. The chicken and Indian cheese were fresh. However both dishes had a dilute gravy, and could have been the reason that one kept wanting a more dense body and flavor. This is NOT restaurant by any means. This is family's love they are sharing by sharing their food. I was passing by Fresno and decided to take to go food from them. I ordered chicken curry, goat curry and mixed paratha. Food was ready within 15 minutes. Unless you how to find them, you'll keep looking for them in the area. They do have sitting inside and also is small grocery store and sweets stall. Once i tasted the food, i was immediately transported 20 years back in memory and reminded of home made curry flavors and i kept eating!! In summer of 2016, We were driving from Yosemite towards SFO and we felt like having a road side dhaba food and for our coincidence we found this lovely dhaba with in an hour from Yosemite. Location reminded us of typical Punjabi Dhabas on Indian highways. A thali comes with rice, Roti, dal, curry, raita and salad. Garlic Naan was very fluffy and fresh. Had very high expectations of this place but not everything that we tried turned out to be great but what definitely was surprising, is the amazing quantity of the food and at such cheap prices. We had lunch out there on the table outside on a Saturday and also took a takeout, the food lasted for the entire weekend. What tasted good - Naan , Aloo Paratha ( must try ) , Daal , salt lassi ( must try ) , salad. What tasted Ok - Shahi Paneer , chicken curry , Sarson da Saag and Makki da roti. Also, there was just one old man running the show out there which led to chaos and delays. Need to have additional staff. This place is literally the "Dhaba" (a place where commuters can stop by to eat food and relax). This place is a real gem...for us just passing through, a diamond in the rough. The stuffed pratha and curry were so good and the people so very kind and accommodating to us not knowing our way around. The customer service was terrible. I ordered a sandwich jamun, but the elderly man at the counter tried to give me a different sweet. When I insisted on what I had originally asked for, he started shouting, claiming that all the sweets were the same. To make matters worse, he handled the sweets with his bare hands instead of using gloves, and he didn't even provide me with an itemized bill. I will not be returning to this place until this man is replaced or changes his behavior. To my surprise he did not give the salad I had ordered. Ambiance is also not good! The ambience is not too fancy. But very affordable place. The restaurant is little far from the nearest Fresno Downtown area. But I suppose they target the travelers who stop by at the gas station. The people who work here seem to be Punjabi. You know what that means. They are going to know the Punjabi spices to put in the dishes they serve. I was not disappointed with the flavors. It definitely reminded me of the dhaba food from Punjab. These are the types of dhabas one sees off of highways in Punjab. The only minor thing I, as an Indian, would have loved the food to be spicier and carried more heat. But I guess the dhaba tries to cater to a lot of American population, who aren't used to it. Located on outskirts of Fresno at a gas station, this is literally a dhaba ! And the food is very authentic. This is not your typical Indian restaurant in US and if you are expecting the regular sweet-creamy-calorie rich-tomato-sauce -like-smooth curries- with no texture, then you are in the wrong place!! Also it is a very small place inside a convenient store, limited seating and no pomp and show. That said, I'd say go here and experience the authentic punjabi food that you probably won't find anywhere else. Their parathas are mind blowing. Mooli paratha (raddish paratha) was terrific. I have never seen a mooli paratha on the menu anywhere in US so far. Gobi paratha was also equally good. Parathas are huge, gigantic ! their chef has some really good rolling skills. Parathas were served steaming hot, right out the pan and with a generous serving of dahi (indian yoghurt) and mouth-watering punjabi pickle that will stimulate your appetite. I am almost certain the parathas were made with whole wheat flour and not maida or white flour. The non-veg thali was superb. I literally licked my fingers eating the food. Dal was superb, tandoori roti loaded with butter was sooooo good, chicken curry was okay (would have loved it to be more spicy), jeera rice was good and boondi raita and onion chilly cucumber salad paired really well with rest of the food. Salt lassi in aluminium containers was so refreshing. It tasted more like chhaas though and was thin for a lassi. Their desserts were a pleasant surprise. They have some superb bengali mithai, rasgullas and cham-cham or whatever it's called. It was sooooo yummy and very authentic. I have simply no words for Punjabi Dhaba. I didn't get to dine in because I ordered take out while I was here for work. Must say they have some pretty tasty food and the Parantha is the size of your whole arm it's huge ! It's near a gas station outside of Fresno near all the trucking spots literally a hidden gem . There is enough parking outside I only came in the morning so it didn't seem that busy . I ordered the shahi paneer and saag they had a great kick to them, they threw in some yogurt and pickles which was nice as well. Great spot if you are hungry or just ordering for take out . The food was watered down and held no taste. *Stay away from this spot if you want decent food (of any kind) The chai was terrible. I think it's the water they use. I went to Punjabi Dhaba today for the first time. Dine in was not available so I ordered to go. I ordered 2 aaloo parontha, 2 tandoori naan, chicken curry, and mango lassi. Food was hot (cooked on order) and delicious. Good Quality with gracious amount of food (size of paronthas and roti was more than I expected). Personally I like spicy food but this was normal spice level food which Suits to everyone's taste so I liked it. I would definitely mention the tandoori roti because most of the time tandoori roti becomes way too hard to eat after an hour or two but this tandoori roti was soft even after 3 hrs of packing . The best part was getting that Onion, Green chili, and mooli (white reddish) for the salad and Indian style curd (yogurt) and pickles for the parontha. ( I am Indian and these things are what you want when you go to eat outside). Customer satisfaction. I really enjoyed the meal. PS: place is at gas station outside the city area so it's basically an Indian Dhaba. The system works in the same way. long wait for the order, ordering location has no AC and has flies, and there is not system when there are many orders at once, you have to keep telling them what was your order. My favorite Punjabi restaurant in California is not in the Bay Area....but in Fresno! Punjabi Dhaba is designed to be just like the dhabas in north India, being a small shack situated next to a highway truck stop that caters to truck drivers and travelers, serving spicy and hearty express meals. This restaurant is not known for ambiance (interior consists of diner booths and picnic tables bordered by grocery racks), but rather for the traditional dining experience of a dhaba. The menu indicates Veg Thali as the most popular item, but I think any of the lassi and parantha are also worth the trip here. The sabzi list is brief, but includes most of the simple Punjabi vegetable dishes. Everything I've ordered is tasty. I tried the saag and shahi paneer in my thali. The saag here was prepared with bitter and spicy mustard greens, not just the typical spinach blended into a bland cream. The shahi paneer was very rich with a tomato base and nutty undertones. Both gravies were perfect to dip parantha or naan into. Punjabi Dhaba opens at 9am, so you can come in for breakfast to try their parantha that's stomach-filling and hearty. You can get a huge piece of buttered parantha stuffed with paneer or mixed veg (aloo mooli gobi) for under $5. Each order is about the size of a keyboard and is served with yogurt and pickles. I took my order to-go but I would recommend eating the parantha at the restaurant since it is served straight from the griddle. The lassi at Punjabi Dhaba is the best I've had in California, because it's blended fresh to order and topped with bubbly foam. I have not yet seen any Indian restaurant present their lassi with such froth and foam. All the lassi at Punjabi Dhaba do not taste premade and are definitely not prepared by pouring mango juice over store-bought yogurt like I've seen at many Indian restaurants. You will like the lassi here if you enjoy the flavor of curd. If you're visiting Yosemite or Fresno, Punjabi Dhaba is worth a visit. I bet a chilled cup of lassi sounds appealing when it's 95 degrees outside and you're driving thru Fresno. read more

My server was very informative on the meals and offered us various options on dinner and beverage. His service was also very good. Now onto the food. Stopped by this spot after a weekend backpacking thru Sequoia National Park. Let me tell you, if you're in the area you have to give this place a try. The price you pay for the amount of delicious food you get is well worth it. I ordered the Butter Chicken, Plain Samosa, and Plain Naan.The butter chicken was extremely creamy and the chicken thigh was very tender.
