So happy to have found this spot. It's a smaller café, but the layout is thoughtfully designed and makes great use of the space, with plenty of seating both inside and out. When we visited it was fairly busy, yet it never felt cramped, and we were still able to snag a table. It's been a while since I've updated my reviews here. I still love their pastries and breakfast dine-in options. It can still be pretty chaotic in here but everyone working here is friendly and they do their best to get guests in and out so there isn't too much congestion. For dine-in, their servers could be a little more attentive but again, friendly-enough and worth it to go because their food is pretty good. I love the pretzels croissant breakfast sandwich and I recently tried the hazelnut croissant which was tasty. The almost croissant with always have my heart here and my friend is a fan of their cheese danish. The shop is small, clean, and there's indoor and outdoor seating. Stopped by recently and was pleasantly surprised with the selection of pastries. The price was good for the area which will definitely have us come back again. We tried the pretzel knot (enjoyed it) chocolate croissant (enjoyed it) regular croissant (enjoyed it) and the banana walnut muffin (wasn't the best but not terrible) we do wish the pastries had the option to warm them up but nonetheless they were still delicious. The staff wasn't rude but wasn't friendly either to be honest. Just wouldn't recommend if your goal is to talk to anyone. It's a perfect place to keep to yourself Other than that we plan on going back and trying new things. The regular menu for breakfast/brunch looks delicious. This is a small bakery/cafe located a few miles from Venice Beach and they are making delicious baked goods here and breakfast/lunch food! When you walk in you are shown the display case full of freshly made croissants and desserts and friendly staff greeting you as you walk in! I got several items - Plain Croissant, Pretzel Croissant, and the Jalapeno Cheese Bread. All 3 were delicious but my favorite of the three was the Pretzel croissant. It had the great texture of the regular croissant but with a little bit more chew and saltiness that you would expect from a regular pretzel. The interior is warm and inviting and there are tables right in the main dining area that you can sit and dine in at or some tables right out front. Plenty of people come by for to-go orders but the lines typically move quick. We popped in here on Memorial Day. They were busy because there weren't many places in the area open. We were happy they were open and lucky to find outside seating options since we had our pup with us! My partner got the breakfast burrito that he described as mid. I didn't try it but the tater tots that came with it were perfectly crispy! Our son got just a side of bacon because there weren't gluten free options. Bacon was crispy and he enjoyed it! I ordered the Chilaquiles which is often one of my go-to breakfast options while out. Eggs were sunny side to perfection and I cpuld they were great quality eggs with a rich orange yolk. The sauce on the dish was rich and had a sweetness to it. I liked it! Partner wasnt a fan. I thought the sauce was a bit too thick though. They did a great job of maintaining crispy chips in serving though and it maintained throughout my meal which was impressive. Im wondering if the thicker sauce helped play a role in that! I plan to test at home because who doesn't love a good science food experiment. All in all great place to pop by on the weekend. Not a typical overwhelming brunch place. I stopped into this coffee shop/bakery to pick up an order that I was gonna deliver to it someone. I was shocked to find out. They also served some amazing smelling breakfasts. The one that stood out the most was a part of the order I was delivering. Chilaquiles the smell was so enchanting that I had to come back and try some myself. The staff was very welcoming to every single person who came in. Even polite and welcoming to people who came in with dogs. The Chilaquiles were so amazing that I ended up asking for a second order. The chef came out to ask me how I like them. I told him they were amazing and they reminded me of food. I was cooked by family members when I was a young child. This dish happens to be one of my comfort foods. The spicy needs to it was amazing. The flavor was consistent and the crispiness of the tortillas through the entire meal was absolutely mind blowing. The chef was extremely polite and he was very happy to hear the feedback of how amazing I thought his plate was. I like the atmosphere. They play good music. Food is decent, not spectacular, but more than passable. I don't eat breads & pastries, but I know they're good. You always have to ask for an iced tea refill. They never do it. The manager that roams the dining area has this BOOMING VOICE!!!!! And it is earsplitting. He's really tall, and dominates what is a very small space. Do people not have automodulating? Also, the lady staff member touched a dog, everywhere, and then went back to serving customers. A lot of reviews mentioned the pretzel croissant as one of their specialities so I ordered the pretzel croissant breakfast sandwich with a vanilla latte dine-in. The breakfast sandwich was good as the eggs were prepared over easy as requested and the fusion of flavors of the bacon, aioli, and eggs were excellent. The pretzel within the croissant had a nice slight sweetness to enhance the dish. I opted for house salad instead of tater tots for the side as I was not feeling a heavy meal, and the salad was decent. I took off a star because they never asked me if I wanted the latte in a to-go cup or a mug, as was the case for others dining, as I observed I was the only one to have the drink in a to-go cup with no choice. Second time in and it was as just good as the first. This time we got the breakfast burrito with tots, breakfast sandwich, plain croissant, triple berry scone, and German ginger cookies. I saw Rockenwagner on an Eater's best-of list and was also recommended by a friend. My experience here was just okay--not great, not bad...kind of unremarkable. My partner and I ordered a few pastries to go (a lox and everything bagel Danish, a bear claw, and a pretzel), a loaf of their raisin pecan bread, and two entrees--a pretzel croissant breakfast sandwich and a pretzel bun burger (It was 11:30 AM and we wanted the best of both pretzel worlds). General thoughts: Entrees: I am a pretzel lover and the pretzel bun and croissant didn't scratch the itch. Maybe it's the lack of lye flavoring? The burger and sandwich were both decently cooked and made with fresh ingredients. I truly think it is criminal that a breakfast sandwich costs 15 dollars nowadays, but hey, welcome to LA/Southern California. Pastries: We made the mistake of waiting to eat the pastries until the next morning. They lost that day of freshness, so that's 100% on us. The lox/everything bagel Danish was beautiful and such a creative idea, but it was missing something...and ultimately made me want to eat an actual lox and bagel. I don't remember what the bear claw tasted like but remember that it was filled with frangipane. The pretzel was probably my favorite out of the bunch, but I think there was too much cheese on it (which is rarely an issue). Bread: The pecan raisin loaf is pretty good toasted with butter. I am not sure if it is baked the same day it is sold (or even baked on-site?), as the loaf was packaged in an additional layer of plastic. I wish it had more of a crusty exterior/soft interior that most fresh artisanal loaves have. My blushing bride brought a pecan pie home from Gelsons, baked by Rockenwagner, for the Christmas feast. Unfortunately it was a bit of a letdown to an otherwise fantastic dinner. The good is the nuts and that the filling wasn't as sweet as some other commercial pecan pies. The bad was the weird tasting crust and the floury taste/texture in the filling. I was very disappointed in the customer service. We ordered the oatmeal for our 4 year old and when it came out she set it in front of him with no warning to us that it was piping hot. When our toddler went to take a bite he burned himself. We let our waitress know and just asked politely if next time she could let us know when something is going to come out that hot. She turned and walked away, no recognition or apology. When we asked for the bill we spoke to the manager and her response consisted of 1. Well we make it very hot 2. Next time you should let her know who it's for so that she doesn't put it right in front or within reach of him (our waitress knew it was for a toddler and she placed it in front of him) and a lukewarm apology. It's not the fact that he got burned that was the problem but the way it was handled, there was no genuine acknowledgement/ apology or accountability or resolution presented for the situation. Moving to MDR area has made me exploring my options for local bakery and let me stumble upon Rockenwagner. The bright orange banner was surely eye-catching when you passed, amplified by the line you could notice during the weekend. Good thing for sure, they offered the option for online order so no more grumpy me. The pastries were obviously what caught my attention, but for reference they did serve heavier options for dine in the cozy wooden-dominated theme. My first try was their Linzer Bar (6.5/10), which apparently was shortbread cookie crust with berry filling. Being first timer for this, I would say it's decent. Next one was The Bear Claw, which unfortunately was tad dry for me but I would say the almond in it was generous enough (6/10). My excitement level increased as I went for the croissants selection. I was torn between their Almond Croissant (7/10) and Hazelnut Croissant (8.5/10), ending up trying both in different visit. Having had both, my pick was doubtlessly their Hazelnut, which seemed to be their best selling one as well. My pic might not do justice to, but the size was massive, the pastry was delightfully flaky, and the hazelnut filling was abundant. My fave so far from the sweet option! If you're more on savory side, Pretzel Croissant Sandwich (8.5/10) was certainly the choice. It was like bacon and egg sandwich served in croissant base, with extra happiness from Tater Tots. Might be one of the best matcha lattes I've ever had. Came here after my shift on a Friday to work on some homework and it was fairly empty around 1:30pm.
