I came here to play some pool and that was a fun experience despite losing every game to my hot date. The price is $1 per game. I am giving this place 2-stars because the bartender made for an awkward moment. Basically, I went to get a couple drinks and the bartender asked me for 2 ID's. Fine--makes sense, no big deal. So I brought her 2 ID's and when she checked my friend's, she walked it to where my friend was in another room. She pretty much wasted my and her time. She might as well have told me to bring my friend in person to the bar but instead she made it hard and awkward for everyone. Because of this weird occurrence, this place deserves a 2 until they can be more professional and up front instead of wasting people's time. Stopped in at the R15 Bar on our second stop of a fun filled Saturday Night. The place was pretty crowded, yet didn't have a line halfway down the block like some of the other hot spots on a Saturday Night. I noticed that the Male to Female Ratio was off, by a lot, making there way more males to females in the crowd. This didn't bother me much at all, as I was in my own world, but it was an interesting mix of people. Came in for a Saturday night with friends. Bartender was prompt and drinks weren't too bad. I'm used to the hole in the wall bar drinks so these were refreshing. We ordered some bites, wings, and the tacos. Out of those I'd have to say the tacos were my favorite. The fries had cold cheese (fresh out the fridge) so that was really disappointing. I think if the cheese was warm it may not have been that bad. The wings had good flavor, I only ate 1 since they were a little messy left the rest to my husband. Visiting Sacramento for an overnight work trip and wanted to watch the Sharks game. A co-worker recommended the bar/restaurant across the street but upon walking up I saw this one was significantly less crowded and already had the game on! I popped in and asked if they would put the game on on the specific TV I was facing and they accommodated me immediately. Another couple soon asked for the same TV to be changed to a different sports game and the bartender honored me being their first and told them she'd be happy to change a different TV they could view. Ended up chatting with the couple next to me and they were super friendly. Nice to know their patronage is a good crowd. The waitress asked if I wanted any food and didn't press when I declined. I must say that I really love this bar. You never have to wait too long for a drink. There is rarely a line and when there is it goes by within 5 minutes. No dress code or cover. Also the inside is huge with a large smoking patio, pool tables, and rooms that are first come first serve (and no charge either). You can even check-out a video game system and video games with your ID to play inside the rooms -- the rooms are equipped with HUGE (~42+ inches) plasma tvs. Although I have never been here early enough to see it as a restaurant, I know I will one day. She kept the kids drinks full. I have the Angus burger medium...perfecto! First time I've had it cooked to a true med in a long time! Also noshed on the BF's asian salad; it was decent, nothing to write home about. Others had the happy hour quesadilla-barely any pork in it but again decent. So glad to see this spot open again one of my favorite spots to go unfortunately they took the grilled cheese off the menu a while back but they're always willing to let me get one off the kids menu I go specifically for the grilled cheese I add tomato and sometimes bacon it's amazing. The chef knows my son is autistic and is always willing to go out of his way to make him spaghetti and marinara sauce which is practically the only item he eats. Came here on Monday night of Memorial Day Weekend to shoot some pool with a friend before catching a flight. Good place to shoot pool at $1 a game. I played from 6 - 7:30 and there wasn't much of a fight for the 4 pool tables at the establishment. My only complaint with the pool room is that there is a pillar that stands in the middle of the room that kind of blocks your shot for all 4 tables. I'm not sure why it is there, but the $1 charge per game more than makes up for it since the tables were well kept. read more

I just want to say for the past year this has been one of my favorite places to go to in downtown. It had amazing food, great slushy's and great customer service. Unfortunately the past few weeks have not been the same. The slushy flavors have just not been good and the food quality has not been the same. They need to bring back the peach lemonade, strawberry, and just fruit flavors in the slushy's now that it's summer and hot outside. I usually don't write bad reviews when it pertains to one individual, but when it's on a recurring basis I feel the need to. I came here on my birthday last year in the summer, August 5th 2018. It was a Sunday afternoon. We sat at one of the tables by the bar and were waiting for our entire group to get there. One of my friends tried to order 2 beers for a couple people who weren't there yet and the waitress sternly said "Where are their IDs?" My friend said "Oh they're parking right now, they can show you when they get inside." and the woman said they would have to wait. Then my friend joked "Well then...I'll order two beers for myself!" and the waitress was very offended and said "So you're asking me to break the law!" It wasn't meant to be offensive, but I get it...you're just doing your job. I had no problem with that. When the friends ended up getting there, they took a sip of one of the beers on the table to taste it and decide if they wanted to order the same one....and the waitress mysteriously appeared and said "You cannot sip anyone's alcohol unless I have seen your ID!" Okay I get that too...but it was a little much. We're all 30+ years old. I could see it if we were 21 or our IDs looked fake. I let it slide since it was my birthday and I just wanted to have fun. My fiancé also ordered something from her and we eventually moved over to playing pool. About 3 hours later of playing pool, my fiancé realizes that she never charged him for his beers. We had to actually go up to her to remind her to charge us. I mean I get it...you're busy and sometimes things get lost in translation. But I remember leaving that day and thinking...This waitress won't last long. She's rude. She can't even charge people correctly. Flash forward to last night around 7:00 PM on a Saturday. I'm meeting a girlfriend to catch up and I choose one of my favorite bars - R15. We order a couple margaritas at the bar (which were delicious!) and we find a table to sit at that has two chairs. About 2 minutes into our conversation, a waitress appears and asks us if we want any food. I say to her "Oh cool we can order food over here?" and she snaps back at me in a condescending tone "Well yes, I am a waitress and this is my section so you will need to order drinks and food from me from now on. My name is ______." and walks away. I sit there thinking to myself why this feels so familiar and then it hits me that this is the same waitress from my birthday 8 months ago! She still works here! I'm blown away. About 5 minutes later, she comes by again and says "Did you guys decide what you were going to order?" and I'm confused because now I feel like she's expecting me to order something and I had no idea the table/chairs I'm sitting at require me to order food. No one else around me is eating. I say to her "No we're still drinking our margaritas, so maybe in 10 or 15 minutes." She proceeds to walk by and ask us "You girls doing okay?" passive aggressively about 2-3 more times until finally I get so annoyed that we get up and leave. We would have stayed there the entire night and ordered drinks from her if she wasn't so rude. Now...if that is indeed a "food only" section, my suggestion for R15 would be to have a sign that says "These chairs are reserved for patrons ordering food." or something of that nature. But when I go to a bar at 7:00 PM on a Saturday night, I expect it to be less busy and I expect there to be somewhere for me to sit down. The point of my review is I think this individual should improve on her customer service because she is driving my business away, and possibly others too. I would have been happy to order from her and tip her well if she wasn't passive aggressive or rude towards me on two separate occasions. (Her name starts with a J.) I used to frequent this bar often when I lived in the area and recently came back to see if it was as I remembered it. It was definitely as good as I remember. I ordered the grilled salmon salad and it was stunning. The salmon was fresh and flaky, the greens fresh and delicious and all the flavors worked together perfectly. If I could give 0 stars I would. Last night myself and a few friends went to R15. We had proceeded to play some pool and have some drinks. A group of ladies came in to where we were playing pool. At first they seemed friendly enough. They engaged in conversation with ua & then one of them out of the blue decided to grab one of my friends beers and drank it. They eventually left & then 5 mins later we were being questioned by one of the staff members with two bouncers standing by. We were falsely accused by the girls that had left of saying we worked there. The need to check in on the accusation is one thing but it was how the staff member came at us. She did so in an accusatory manner and with a complete attitude. I can understand the need to follow up on the complaint but there was no need to be aggresive and just come out with leading with questioning and not by introducing herself first & then proceeding to do her job. We will not be going back anytime soon. Consider this review & realize please there are better places to spend your money downtown & to have a good time. read more

Super friendly, pours fabulous drinks (in a timely manner!), and even gave us tips on other places to check. I ended up back here two days in a row. I know this place can be kind of a bro-fest on busy nights, but I find R15 to be a pretty chill spot to enjoy patio beers with friends and people watch on a Sunday afternoon. And I mean, look at me, I fit in with the bros anyways so they'd never know I wasn't one of them unless they tried to talk sports with me. They are partners with Cafe Bernardo next door, so the food is above average for bar grub. The U-shaped bar is nice for scoping out the scene and allows the bartenders to notice you more easily. Somewhat hidden, R15 is a decent bar adjacent to Cafe Bernardo in Sacramento! Came here for drinks/appetizers while waiting for our table at Iron Horse across the street. Ambiance: Spacious, with plenty of tables near the bar area on a Friday night! There is also a pretty large area in the back with TV's and pool tables. The only thing that really bothered me was the red lighting inside, but after sitting for a while you get used to it. Service: Since it wasn't particularly busy on the night I came in, service was very attentive and drinks/food came out very quickly. Food: As far as drinks go, they had a great selection of cocktails, however I was a little disappointed in the execution. All the drinks were incredibly strong which made them difficult to finish. Additionally, the two guys in our party received their drinks in large glasses, while the rest of us got glasses half the size....odd? As a sort of preface, my boyfriend and I are not violent people. Went to this bar since it's close to my apartment and wanted to watch baseball on a Monday night somewhere that wasn't too far to walk. Spent $80 at this bar that I didn't like anyway, and has always had a bad reputation for the clientele as well as the security staff. Now I know why. My wallet was stolen that night, and I realized it five minutes after we left, so my boyfriend went back in to see if it had fallen on the floor or anything. I was waiting outside, and could hear the security making comments about him being too drunk and having to go. All of a sudden my boyfriend was being dragged out in a chokehold & was unconscious. He was dropped on the ground, where he sustained multiple injuries including a broken finger and chipped teeth. I don't want the story to get too long-winded, but there was more violence that same night when we walked by and us and two other friends were assaulted, knocked unconscious, etc etc. Police reports were filed. My boyfriend, many many friends and myself frequent the music venue that is next door. I now have to walk all the way around the block in order not to be (at the very least) verbally assaulted, and I live in fear of being recognized since I live alone very nearby. After a big show at the aforementioned venue, we took a chance since it was so crowded and hoped the staff would be too busy to recognize us or bother us if we walked by. Wrong. We were verbally assaulted, and then pursued us across the street and attempted more physical assault. Luckily we got away without any such scuffle, and filed another police report. We have contacted the GM, who only gave us one response and once she heard our side of the story ceased contact, have attempted to contact the owner, who also owns many other midtown establishments, and will be hiring an attorney for the thousands of dollars in medical bills that have been accrued. Long story short, if you want to have a good time without fearing violence by the people who are supposed to be there to keep out the TRUE riff-raff, don't go to this bar. They don't deserve your patronage anyway if they think it's OK to continue to pay these people to assault nonviolent, paying customers. read more

As a Yelper, I have posted many reviews; most are far more critical than this one. However, since posting this review, I have now been harassed by 3 people in less than 24 hrs. I can only assume these people are co-workers or friends of this bartender... Please read the second half for more information. Below is my review: We came in for drinks while waiting for our reservation at Iron Horse Tavern. The 3 of us sat outside with our dog, but never got menus or attention from a waiter (even though we asked for assistance twice). We decided to go straight to the bar and ask for mimosas. At all the bars I've been to, you have the option of different mimosas (i.e. grapefruit, orange, cranberry, etc.) When my friend asked the bartender what type of juices they have for mimosas, he looked at him and said nothing, so my friend added, "or do you only do OJ?". The bartender then chuckled and said sarcastically, "Well, that's kind of what a mimosa is" and turned away to tend to people that just came to the bar. Before he was ignored, my friend was still trying to explain that he had had other types of mimosas, so was just trying to clarify and learn the options. At this point, my friend just walked back to our table to tell us what had happened. A waitress finally came out after 20 minutes of sitting and waiting and took the order of the family of 4 sitting at the same table as us. We got her attention and she took our order as well. We asked about the mimosas to which she said, "Of course! We have pineapple, cranberry, (and another juice that I can not remember)". This lady is the only reason this place even receives a star. We ordered a carafe of the cranberry mimosa - there is no complaint of the drink, it was fine and it was brought out quickly. We were treated rudely and talked to condescendingly when we had done nothing to deserve it. Is it suddenly a crime to share this information to other people? I still stand by the fact that he needs to be trained on how to appropriately address and attend to customers because the service was far less than perfect. Now, since I'm assuming the ignorant people that have been harassing me are only upset because I posted an indistinguishable picture, I will remove it, leaving you with a description as I have in other reviews: Thicker-built, but not obese, Caucasian man; look as if he was in his mid-30s, brunette hair, short head hair and thick facial hair (although still short); worked on Sunday April 17th around noon. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As a Yelper, I have posted many reviews; most are far more critical than this one. RUDE! RUDE!"; talk about feeling privileged. How is this any different? As an FYI to these individuals and any others planning on harassing me, your messages are not helping the case of this bartender by any means. If anything, you are making him look worse with your immature comments and child-like behavior. Let this bartender take my one bad review with a grain of salt and decide whether or not he wants to make changes. If not, no big deal. I never questioned his character as a person, or put him in a place that needs defending or harassing, nor did I violate any Yelp guidelines. A friend took me to R15 for the first time and being that I never go to bars, I can say that I felt very comfortable, ended up having a great time, and liking it very much. The staff - from the moment of checking my ID to making sure that empty glasses were removed promptly and generally keeping a watchful eye was good to see! They were smiling and having a great time themselves all while doing their job... and I very much liked that. The crowd was mixed (which I liked), people were more concerned with having a good time rather than fighting (which I really liked), and I even met some people who struck up some conversation. The bar was a bit crowded and I could see them using more bartenders, but being so inexperienced with the bar scene in general, I cannot truly be certain that it is like that everywhere. Also, the floor was a bit sticky - but what else do you expect at a bar a couple of hours from closing and people spilling drinks? I loved the Plasma/LCD monitors showing videos and the speakers and sound quality were great. People were dancing, watching videos and sports highlights - all in all it was a very memorable night. I've been here a few times for bar review, as well as just going to see what it was like when it wasn't flooded with 1L's. Just for drinks mind you, so I can't talk about the food. Drink prices were pretty good, and the Bartenders were cool (at least to me). They at least know how to work their lines as opposed to some other places I've been to, so that automatically gets it 4 stars for me. To bid your time between drinks, there are a plethora of pool tables, and lots of private, cubby like tables to have a secluded spot (or get table service). I've been able to get out of here for less than $25 for 5 drinks (a few beers and a couple above-well cocktails plus a good tip). All in all I like the place. It's a bit of a walk from my place in midtown, but oh well. Parking is a little bit of a hassle around here, but such is life in midtown, so get your quarters ready or learn to find parallel park and walk. read more

This is the second bar I visited upon concluding a year-long drinking sabbatical for health reasons. You can probably guess that I was itching for a stiff, well-made cocktail at that point. R15 delivered the drink, but that was about it. The bartenders here weren't nearly as friendly and sociable as those at other stops during my bar crawl. The pool tables all seemed to have some sort of operating issue. The interior, while nice and upscale-ish, is overshadowed by the rowdy, majority male crowd I usually find here. The bar is attached to Cafe Bernardo, so if you come for a meal, be prepared to listen to the sound of loud bar visitors from next door, although the two places do a fairly good job of keeping their clients separate. I will say this place is a great midday spot for some TV sports viewing if there isn't too much of a crowd! read more

I've visited R-15 for happy hour, off and on, since they opened. However, this evening's experience could break my stride. Usually I pick R-15 when an out-of-town, hard-working friend comes through Sacramento and we need some cheap but decent early eats and some good drinks. The crowd is typically friendly folks, sometimes loud inside, but the outdoor patio is comfortable in the spring/summer/fall. Lately, though the bar has been sadly lacking the skills that drew me in earlier, which is to say the drinks tonight were weak, weak, weak. If I order a top shelf martini I'd like to taske the vodka, thanks. And the bar food has gone severely downhill. The bar food menu used to offer more options, now it appears to have been pared back. Lately the Specials Board has been missing from the wall. And the food quality overall has gone downhill in a major, crap-my-car-lost-its-breaks kind of way. Wings, formerly a decent staple of any bar-goer's diet and rendered faily well at this watering hole, are now heavily laden with a cheap-tasting, vinegary, messy, soup of a sauce - gross. My husband's turkey sandwich was so dry that I choked while trying a bite and then spit it out, and he ended up removing the bread and just ate the insides - now that's a sucky sandwich. Our visiting friend's burger was deemed "greasy, greasy, greasy, decent...but greasy." Of course, he'd worked construction all day and skipped lunch, so he probably would have eaten a shoe.
