Great seat to watch the game

After our horrible service last time at Cafe Bernardo we came back hoping for a better experience and because our friend loves this place so much. We met our friend for brunch and the 49er game. We arrived today, Sunday, September 15, 2024 at 9:30am. 30 minutes after they opened. We choose to sit in their bar R15. We were the first in the bar and had our pick of tables. The bar table was clean and unsticky like last time. They really upped their game when it came to cleanliness. We needed to request they put the game on, on the TV we were facing. Soon as we asked they found someone with the remote and knew how to change the channel. We were afraid we would have to change tables. We wanted to start with pastries. They suggested we go back to Cafe Bernardo and look in their pastry case. The cinnamon roll and the carrot cake looked good so we ordered a slice of carrot cake and a cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll was warmed, to a little over room temperature. It was on the dry side. I wouldn't recommend it or order it again. The carrot cake on the other hand was top notch. I highly recommend the carrot cake. After seeing ours our friend ordered a slice after brunch. The others ordered the craft of mimosas and though they were perfect. Just the right mixture. They don't serve salads or burgers till after 11am. It was a little awkward as our friend wanted breakfast so he ordered his breakfast and We waited till 11:30 and I ordered my burger. It was perfectly grilled. Medium rare. It was juicy and tasty. Service was good. Our waiter kept checking on us. The bathrooms were clean.

I like the place. Here's why The vibe is an upbeat, casual come as you are type of place. Prompt and friendly service is a rule here. I don't love all the entrees I have tried, but I have a SUPER love for some of the entrees I return for. When we have groups, it's a safe bet that you have a choice of a variety food preferences and still have a tasty selection across the board. Several folks in our large family are strictly vegetarian. The rest of us eat vegetarian meals regularly but also consume and enjoy meat. Vegetarian choices. Sometimes it can be tough to find a vegetarian entree that is excellent. Not here. A stand out choice of theirs and for GF folks as well, is their Grain and Vegetable Bowl. Quinoa based (these people do Quinoa right) with a plethora of good for you tasty ingredients, you get a health-meets-flavor vibe. Just the right portion of Jalapeño lime dressing compliments the dish with optional add ons of organic tofu or roasted chicken. Excellent as is. Try it. Grandkids ask for the Burgers with the Mac and cheese side. We always have to steal a couple bites because the Mac is yummy. We have explored the menu and find it to be a consistently satisfying experience. From brunch to late night there are great options. Overall good vibes, good service and good food.

Blake hooked it up with the tall vodka sodas for the boys!

Blake and Isaiah for the win! The boys accommodated our boys with some beautiful tall vodka sodas and I proceeded to take down these 2 in pool for the next several hours!

    Burger was good. $12.75 + $2.75 for fries, $1.25 for cheese, and $1.25 for bacon = $18

Came for lunch. Ordered salad sampler with 3 items (you can just get 2 if wanted) and the burger with fries. Salad sampler is great. This time I got 3 items: mushroom and jarlsberg cheese salad with lemon vinaigrette, Thai noodle with peanut dressing, and apparently the kale Cesar. I usually get the quinoa as my 3rd but the chef or bartender this time had a different opinion apparently. I won't be getting the Cesar again as the dressing was quite flavorless (at one point I asked if maybe they forgot the dressing because it was so dry). The mushroom salad is basically the reason I come her it's so good. And the Thai salad s nice an filling with the perfect amount of peanut dressing. Boyfriend got the burger ($12.75) plus fries ($2.75), cheese (1.25), bacon (1.25) = $18 burger. He liked it. He loved the fries. Ambiance is fun; they have pool tables and tvs.

    beautiful bar area!

It was a nice surprise to see a hand written "Congratulations and Happy Anniversary" card. A complimentary treat of Focaccia bread with avocado and kimchi was given as well as a glass of champagne for the both of us. Our waiter was helpful, offering his opinion on what wine to take. We went for whatever he suggested for white (for her) and red (for me). Both were good picks. Our dinner started with toasted focaccia bread. She ordered a Caesar salad also. The appetizer was 3 large slices of bread with stracciatella and pear compote. The bread was light and buttery. The stracciatella was good blending well with the bread. The Caesar salad was a big serving. Tasty and simple, nothing special. Our main entree was filet mignon for my wife and wagyu rib eye for me, both medium rare. The filet was topped with garlic confit and I added chimichurri to my ribeye. The plating was simple, the protein with the side and roasted garlic. We also added smashed potatoes to share. Our first bite was the meat itself with no dressing. I can taste why the steak was priced that way. It just melted in my mouth and left a nice smooth aftertaste. We exchanged bites, she felt the same way and I agreed that her filet was perfect. After adding the roasted garlic and chimichurri, the slices were heavenly. The surprise for me was the smashed potatoes. First time trying this dish and I was impressed. The crispness of the skin was a nice surprise. The butter and garlic added another layer of flavor. We topped our dinner with a toffee bread pudding with vanilla ice cream and caramel. I'm not a dessert person but this, this was good! Overall it was a great dinner. The food was excellent. The staff was amazing. Of course, my date was beautiful. Thank you Butcher and Barrel for an awesome dinner experience!

We were seated within 10 minutes of arrival - they did not accept reservations. We started with the Spinach and Artichoke Dip ($15) and Fritto Misto ($22) and drinks. I was so impressed with their Freezer Martini ($16) - the presentation was fun, and the amount given was well worth the price. Everyone ordered their own respective entrees, which included the Pasta Bolognese ($21) with Meatballs ($3), Seared Salmon ($29), and the Double-Cut Pork Chop ($29). I was totally present during the dinner, so I didn't get many pictures. Let's just say everyone's plates were cleared by the end. Definitely will come back to try their Sunday Brunch!

The outdoor patio, shade, and overall atmosphere were great, and our server was wonderful and understanding throughout our meal. The food value on the brunch side, however, missed the mark. A couple of us ordered the $19 chorizo open-face omelette. While we knew going in that it didn't come with sides, what was presented simply did not match the menu description. It arrived as a disappointing 7-inch open-faced omelette. The peppers were barely specks, and the potatoes were virtually nonexistent (something we realized while discussing the dish later). On top of that, the small amount of "chorizo" tasted and looked like plain breakfast sausage. I completely understand that businesses need to turn a profit, pay fair wages, and cover rent in a prime location, but the margin here was too glaring for what was served. I genuinely thought they had served us all vegetarian omelettes on accident, it felt like an incomplete plate. I had never felt taken advantage of like I did when I received my meal, so I had to send it back to the kitchen. I swapped it for the roughly 13-inch pepperoni pizza ($23). For just $4 more, the contrast was very apparent. The pizza was fresh, delicious, well-portioned, and fed three of us (including the guests who kept their omelettes and were still hungry). While the staff resolved my plate graciously, the brunch menu as currently portioned falls short. If management adds proper sides or reworks the portions to match the pricing, it could be a solid brunch destination. Until then, we'll stick strictly to the pizza or maybe try out another one of their menus.

Came here about 11 days ago for a friend's birthday. And while it was still good overall (for me at least) I did notice a bit of an overall decline. The drinks were sweeter than before, arguably too sweet now. The gravy for the smothered chicken almost of my friends said was WAY too salty. My oxtails were still fairly tender but quite as much as before and the flavors were a little muted compared to before. The deviled eggs were a bit of a letdown too, pretty dry although the bacon was on point. The place is super clean and you couldn't tell they've been in business as long as they have so that's a plus. Service was pretty good especially considering the party size that came.
