Great customer service that made for a very easy process. I did not make an appointment to get a hitch and bike rack for my Subaru Outback. However, Brian (the store manager) was able to get me in between two existing appointments. He helped select the right hitch for my vehicle and showed me various rack options. I dropped in on a busy Saturday afternoon to purchase a new rack for my new car. I was in a dark mood for no good reason but the manager was able to quickly help me and send me on my way with a new setup. Rack N Road does a good job with having a good stock selection and good prices. You can always find some sort discount through their website or checking in with Yelp. They also may offer you a few bucks for towers that you can't use anymore. read more

I was extremely pleased with the service and products at Rack N' Road. The salesman, Chris, was quick to help us and had a lot of information (which was good because we knew nothing about what we needed)! We had just purchased 4 bikes and wanted a rack that we could put in the hitch on my Dodge Magnum. That in itself was not that big of a deal. The big problem was that we wanted to be able to take the bikes with us when we went camping but the bumper on our pop-up can not support a hitch. Apparently, it is illegal to put one there anyway. Good thing Chris was more informed that we were! Next we asked about roof mount systems that would work. Chris explained how it all worked and what our different options were for roof mounting. We were looking at $500 for the hitch rack and another $1500 for the roof system for the trailer. Sad panda for sure! That's a ton of money that I could use for other things (like a new bike or two!). Chris had an excellent solution to our problem that only cost $150! He showed us an attachment that would allow us to hitch both the trailer and the bike rack to the car at the same time. There was a little concern that the bikes may hit the batter and propane tank when the trailer is hooked up but he explained the options we have if that ends up being a problem and offered to give us a full refund on any of the parts if they did not work for us. Genius!! We were in and out in less than an hour (including the time it took to build the rack which was well worth the extra 20!). Extremely happy with the entire experience! read more

Heard about these guys from a friend. They are a great bunch of very helpful people. They were able to give me estimates and installations without doing the "pushy salesman." Also, these guys are open seven days a week so it helps me, since I can't always get there on weekdays. During my purchasing experince, there was an issue with my order and they were able to find ways to accomodate my needs. I think these guys are worth checking out. These guys continue to deliver great customer service. I come here from time to time to buy accessories for my bike rack. I had stripped a bolt on my rack that a few shops either were not helpful, or wanted to charge me for the full package this bolt comes with. I believed I talked to someone named Joe how was great, he asked me all the right questions, took the time to understand what my issue was. We had them install roof racks on our Prius V so that we could again use an older Thule pod that we bought years ago. While we were there we also had them install a trailer hitch on the same car so we could use our Thule bike rack. We christened them both this weekend and didn't have any issues. Amending my initial review. I wasn't sure what was happening with my RMA, but received a call from Chris and was handling my case with Kuat directly and let me know one was on (or soon to be) the way. I generally like supporting locals shops with good customer service and Rack N Road hits both marks. Chris even left me his cell number in case I had any questions about my RMA and new cargo boxes I'm about to purchase. Again, great attention to detail and always going above and beyond to help rack/outdoor enthusiasts. I'll be picking up a Black Inno 660 for my 2015 Subaru Outback this week. Kudos to Chris and Daniel. Initial review below: Love this store and been going for years until my Kuat NV needed an RMA after two year because of play in the swing arm mount. I spoke to Josh (awesome unfortunately no longer woking there) and verified along with another in house mechanic that there is an unusual amount of movement in the rack arm. They said a new NV would be shipping once Kuat catches up with their overloaded production. RMA visit #1. Didn't hear back for two months so I stopped by the store and Daniel (awesome!) helped me out and filled out the RMA form once again. Was also told the production schedule was slow and had to wait. RMA visit #2. Called two month later and talked to Chris (manager) on the phone and said there is no record of the RMA and since there has been many employees named John that have come and gone he needed me to come in to the store once again to verify the play in the rack. Although very helpful and pre-sold me on the new Inno Wedge that just came in and told me they had the cargo box in stock -- I went to the store to reverify the play in my rack with Daniel since Chris was not in and to buy the Inno Wedge 660. The last Wedge was sold to an employee and received a call I needed to come back into the store verify the RMA with Chris. RMA visit #3 along with multiple phone calls peppered in between. Although I like the store and their amazing employees this particular experience left a bit confused about RMA status. Let's see how my next visit goes. read more

Can't say enough about this place. It goes without saying that likely a disproportionate number of reviews are negative by virtue of the fact that a satisfied customer rarely has motive to review. Full disclosure: I have no personal or financial ties to this shop, but they asked me to yelp when I expressed gratitude for service and expertise. My first purchase like this for our new used car- a skybox with rack. They were courteous, knowledgeable, and did not pressure. They even sent me out the first day and advised I didn't buy that day until I'd done my own research. The prices were competitive; they were actually the exact prices I found at REI. Online is slightly cheaper. I called from work the following week to tell them I'd like to go ahead with a purchase. My CC was charged, and then I found out REI was having a sale - 20% off racks and boxes. I called back a few days later to ask about this (since I overheard they match non-internet-based competitors' prices). No problem. They refunded the 20%. Jimmy is a good, honest guy. Fantastic service. I called and spoke with Jen at Rack N' Road. She knew the exact part I was looking for that happened to have fallen off my rack when I was driving. The parts were little things, but there's still a cost. It took a bit to install both on one rack but they took the time to advise the best rack for the job and got the job done in a reasonable amount of time. I would not say I am new to the outside world but I had tons of questions. They were helpful and patient every step of the way. Not only that but after using the products in wind and rain (I vacation in Oregon and Washington in the winter) I am very happy because both products performed as advertised. I purchased a rack system for my car on 5/6/2020. The system was easy to install. After installing the Echelon carriers on the system, they did not seem solid. I came back and someone there took time out to examine and adjusted the carriers without charging me for his time. Now the car feels solid carrying the heavy mountain bikes (2). My husband and I needed a rack and cargo basket installed ASAP for our upcoming road trip (another shop did not come thru for us) and we decided to try our luck down in San Jose. We called to see if they had all the equipment needed to put a rack and cargo basket on our car and they did. I thought about taking a star off since this place is perpetually understaffed - but that's a pretty good problem for a business to have. I sold Thule rack systems for five years, and I can tell you that these guys know their stuff. They're friendly even when busy, and the store usually has an impressive in-stock inventory. When they don't have something right there in the store, they usually only need order it from another location in Northern California - I only had to come back the next day for a roof-mount bike rack. They're also generous with their time and tools, and will help you mount or disassemble your rack. I lost the safety-star-bit wrench that came with my ski racks, and they replaced it without any hemming or hawing - just gave me a spare they had at the shop to keep for my own. Friendly, knowledgeable, much better selection than REI. read more

Called in here to check out roof rack option for our mountain bikes. Chris took the time to give me a great education. I ordered the new Thule Aeroblade Edge system and two Thule Sidearms. Came in a couple of weeks later for the installation. Had some problems with the sunroof not clearing the Sidearms during the installation. No problem. Talked the different options through with Chris and changed to a Whispbar bike rack. Left with a sweet set up. Very enjoyable experience.
