We came up to visit my son who is attending Humboldt and after our dinner, elsewhere, we googled a place to go have dessert and coffee. We were in Eureka at the time and it was getting late, but Ramone's on Harrison was still open. :) I gave this place only 4 stars because our pie would've been better heated and I believe she was so busy she forgot to ask. Let me tell you... This place is so cool! The staff was awesome! They were very friendly and upbeat. You felt they loved their job. They were very attentive and even made sure we had what we needed. The coffee was a little strong for me but I am a weakling. Lol The Blackberry pie was tasty. The ambience was very very nice. Reminded me of places you'd find in Calistoga, if you've ever been. We will definitely go back numerous times over the next 3 years and hopefully beyond. read more

My review is regarding the catering side of Ramone's. I've worked with Holly several times in two different jobs catering events both large and small and with big budgets and small ones, and I have never ever been disappointed. They are great about coming up with a creative delicious menu that fits our budget and dietary needs - even when my requests have been vague, ie "something gluten free with chicken?" Ramone's catering is always professional, on time, responsive and the food gets rave reviews from the crowds and the best part is we never run out! There's nothing worse than hosting an event and having the food run out before everyone is served, and that's never been a problem for Ramone's. Also, their cakes are to die for. read more

The most adorable cafe that has become one of my go to spots to kill time, do homework, or just enjoy myself at on a weekend morning. This location is right on one of the main roads of Eureka so driving there and finding somewhere to park can be a real pain, especially on the weekends (which is why I usually just settle for walking when I go). The inside is large with plenty of seating for big groups or for parties of one or two, and behind the main building they have a back patio for outdoor seating as well. The decor is stylishly simple - local art hangs from the walls and the use of colors and small details really pull the place together. The coffee and food is not only incredible in taste, but in price too! I have yet to try most things from their bakery case, but the mixed berry scone is by far my favorite so far. Although their coffee menu selection isn't as big as some of the competitions', the drinks that they do offer are superior to most of the other coffee places in Eureka (as a semi-regular, I highly recommend the Mexican Mocha!) This cafe is about as close to perfect as they come, but with that being said, be aware that many others have caught onto this as well, so depending on the day and hour, the wait times and crowd can get a little overwhelming. Delicious turnover... hold the customer service. Walked in. Selected two cookies, a blackberry turnover, and a coffee cake. Just ordered, paid cash and left. The turnover was amazing. Coffee cake was meh. Pumpkin cookie delicious... biscotti was above average. Pretty straight forward. The girl behind the counter literally rolled her eyes and acted like it was a very challenging order. We did not ask her the 101 stupid questions... what's that...what's in that... etc. so not really sure why it was such a tragedy for her to take our money for the entire 90 seconds we were in the building. Ah well... hope the rest of her 8 hour shift was rewarding... I was sitting in the sun eating a delicious turnover with my coffee elsewhere. If I ever go back to that Ramones I know she probably won't be there.... maybe she would be awesome working in a bait shop....just sayin. read more

Let me preface this by saying that in the 5+ years I have lived in Humboldt I've given Ramone's a lot of opportunities to serve me and earn my business -- be it a quick stop for coffee, take-out lunch service, or going there for dinner. Alas, no more. I'm done with Ramone's. I've had a consistent experience every time -- slow and/or inattentive service (that has sometimes bordered on rude) and mediocre food. When I've asked staff about some menu items, I've frequently been met with a condescending response (like how could I not know what was in that sandwich?). And to top it off, they overcharge for everything. What pushed me over the top to make me write this review? I stopped there on the way home just to pick up a croissant. It had been a long day, I was craving one, and I was hoping that at 5:30 pm there might be some left in the bakery case. And yes, there was ... just one! I patiently stood at the counter for almost 15 minutes. Do you think anyone would even acknowledge my presence? Nope. No one even would make eye contact with me. And there were 4 staff behind the counter all taking with each other or restocking cups. I finally asked for some help. The response? "Well, maybe HE can help you." Before "he" acknowledged me, another person opened the case, put the one croissant on a plate, and starting walking off. When I said that was what I had been waiting for 15 minutes to purchase, all I got were rude looks from the staff. At that point, all there was left for me to do was leave. Buh bye, Ramone's. I'm really happy to have them as my neighborhood coffee shop and cafe. I'm a latte lady, and there's often a bit of a wait for espresso drinks, but any irritation dissipates when I see the beautiful foam art and then destroy it by taking that first delightful sip. The sandwiches (fresh mozzarella, tomato + pesto!), chicken salad wraps and salads in the cold case by the wine bar are great to-go lunches. Speaking of wine bar...so glad that it's an option. Because every time I see the dinner specials I wonder why I don't eat there more and work my way through the menu and wine list. read more

Ramone's made my wedding cakes (yes, plural!) and I they were perfect. We did 3 separate single-tier cakes rather than a traditional multi-tier cake each with their own design and own flavor. The cakes were beautiful, completely fit my vision, and TASTED AMAZING. We had guests coming up to us telling us they were the best cakes they'd ever had. Actually, my wedding was almost 6 months ago and a friend just messaged me "Dreaming about your wedding cake- it was the best ever" randomly. How much better of a review can you get than that? I'm a chef and hate leaving bad reviews but these ppl deserve it...so here goes. Had breakfast at Ramones, on Harrison ave. the place was only partially full, not a lot of patrons in restaurant/bakery. So not a good experience...breakfast came piece meal...ordered classic breakfast with eggs, bacon, potatoes and baguette. Bacon was burnt, potatoes super duper greasy no color...complained but didn't get anything rectified! First I received eggs & baguette. Went to counter and asked for rest of breakfast. Well, did you order a classic breakfast was the first response...lol 5 mins later out came completely burnt bacon. 5 minutes after that out came undercooked massively greasy potatoes! to ad to my now cold eggs and banquette!!! It was one excuse after the other. The person who served us told me I should have ordered on the same ticket as my nephew and his 5 yr old. My nephew ordered well before me at a different register. We both ordered classic breakfast. There were 3-4 ppl behind him in same line. They all received their breakfasts way before my nephew. Nephew had to complain to get his breakfast and then it was one excuse after the other, again! Just friggen say "Oh my gosh we forgot your orders!!! Nephew ordered classic breakfast with bacon and ordered his 5 yr old granola, fruit & yogurt. My order also came before theirs (piece meal). Coffee and espresso are mediocre at best. Won't be back...it's Brio's next time. There are too many restaurants that are good in Arcata, Eureka area to try them again. We didn't eat the potatoes, or the bacon. Nephew left his espresso drink, too sweet. Mine was just ok, nothing to write home about. Restaurant hardly had any Patrons and parking was very limited. I've never had such lackadaisical service anywhere! Talked to owner, she looked stone faced at me and said "what do you want me to do about it?" She couldve cared less. Seriously...get over yourself. I want to like you...I really, really do. I have tried...too many times. I realize that my review is moot as every time I have gone in to the Harrison location it is packed. I find this utterly perplexing. The coffee tastes as if it has been incinerated. The cookies have varied from fresh to stale...but always dry. The two reasons I gave two stars instead of one are for the pain au chocolat which they have nailed and the pre-made egg salad sandwich is not awful. In my line of work I frequently need to purchase large amounts of beverages and goodies for my customers...when I have ordered more than two items the staff consistently get a glazed look in their eyes and begin acting as if I have asked them to remove a limb. Really? Do they not understand how they get their paychecks? I have had better service at the Old Town location but again the bakery items are marginal. I would rather drive all the way to Ferndale to purchase amazing pastries @ Humboldt Sweets. Not only are they incredibly nice...they have baked goods worth treating yourself and your loved ones. read more

I was excited to try this almond croissant at what appears to be Eureka, Ca's most established and reputable bakery: Ramone's Bakery. The Bakery has been around for almost as long as I've been alive and they offer a wide variety of pastries as well as some of the North Coast's best wedding cakes. I was sold. The husband and I crashed overnight in Eureka during a five day road trip down the coast. Naturally, I scoured the interwebs for an almond croissant hotspots and Ramone's popped up. Draped in spooky local art and adorned with indoor brick aesthetics, the joint was mutually cozy and sophisticated. The almond croissants? Eeerrrr, I dislike negative posts, but I also am compelled to document every almond croissant I eat, so: it was all bear claw and no almond croissant. I ate a few bites and dumped it for a savory croissant, which was much better with more natural filling and overall more compatible with the sourdough tasting croissant dough. JT got a savory bun filled with cheese and sun dried tomatoes. It was fluffy, cheesy and divine. This almond croissant was not a fav, although the other bakery selections were happening. read more

I've visited the Harrison location a few times now. The pastries and coffee are good, but the costumer service is pretty bad. I get the cold shoulder every time I come in here. Last time I came in was the last straw. There was a girl behind the counter with long, dark hair with colored pieces in it. She never smiled or greeted me, and I felt like I was more of a nuisance than a costumer.....so uncomfortable. I like Ramone's in general, but I will not be back to this location. read more

This review only gets a one star because yelp lists their opening hours on weekdays to be at 6:00am, but I was waiting outside the doors from 6:20-6:35 and though the employees were inside, they were not open. Their sign on their door said they should be open at 6:30 though, so really that were only five minutes late opening the door, but I can't be sure exactly when they did actually open, because by that time I had to leave to go to work. I have been here during the mid morning on my breaks though and they always have about a hundred flies inside, some even inside their bakery case, and the service is extremely slow so I knew I couldn't wait around until they finally opened or I would be late to work. I have had a few of their drinks and I haven't liked their mocha, hot chocolate, or hot caramel latte. They all tasted a little bitter and watery. However, the hot apple cider is alright and their Italian sodas are fine. I tried to eat here for lunch once, but again, the service was so slow that I had to go up and change my order from dine-in to to-go because they spent twenty minutes making a sandwich. So overall, if you're in the area, have a lot of spare time, and don't want to drive somewhere else, than this place is fine, but if you are vacationing up here or something and you never set foot in this location, then you really aren't missing out. read more

Good job Ramone's for staying open until you are officially closed. I walked in about 6 minutes before closing. I know a lot of places around here close early especially when it gets slow. I had been at st. Joseph's emergency room with my husband for hours and was hungry. You guys were the only thing nearby that was open. The food was delicious, but what made the evening was the service. Our server was Laranda (not sure on the spelling) and she was wonderful. I ordered a sandwich on gluten free bread (you pay extra) and no cheese to go. My husband is lactose and gluten intolerant. The order was not ready when they told me it would be and I had to wait. When I delivered the sandwich to my husband we found the cheese welded to both sides of the sandwich and I was unable to rescue it for him. When I returned it they said, "sorry, we were busy". Today my daughter had a sandwich and salad and when she was about 2/3s of the way through discovered a bug in her salad. She took it back to the counter and was greeted with, "sorry, we will let the kitchen know". In each instance no offer to fix and problem, comp the meal or give credit for a future meal. They just don't care if you return again or not! read more

this review is for the arcata location inside the wildberries market. the cranberry crumble was surprisingly delectable. almost a gooey pie consistency. they offer several cakes, pies, and tarts in several sizes. the smallest size is reasonably priced and plenty for two. chewy, buttery chocolate chip and walnut cookies. all the cookies looked really good. my favorite ramone's baked good? devil's food chocolate cupcake. dark, delicious cake with the perfect amount of piped dark chocolate frosting. read more

Went to Ramones for dessert a few nights ago. One person had the Napoleon, and didn't lift her head until her plate was scraped clean. My other friend had the chocolate decadence, and said it was excellent. I had blackberry pie. The crust was flaky buttery and rich, and the berry filling absolutely perfect. The only flaw was it was fresh from the refrigerator and completely cold. Too bad it wasn't warmed up to at least room temperature because that was the only aspect of our dessert that was marred. I'm a regular who works nearby. There are many reasons that I value Ramone's. The food is varied and tasty, but most of all I enjoy the staff. Service is great and they've managed to hire personable, even delightful baristas! My diet restricts me from indulging in most of the treats, but my family and I splurge on special occasions and have never been disappointed. First, I would like to say that the remodel turned out great! I went there last night for dinner and had pumpkin black bean soup for a starter. It was really good, pretty thick, but great flavor and the black beans served as a yummy pillow like texture. For seconds I had an arugula beet salad. It too was really tasty, it was accompanied by walnuts, feta, vinaigrette, and was not too overdressed. As for the main course I had pan seared halibut with braised greens, red quinoa, and a balsamic reduction. Yum. The fish was cooked perfect for a pan sear. The fish itself was flaky and tender with one side adding a wonderful crispy pan seared texture. They were out of the greens so they subbed with broccoli. I like broccoli, but this was nothing special. The balsamic reduction tied the quinoa and broccoli together for me and the fish was just really good on its own, no sauce necessary. I paired it with a 2011 Pinot noir. Delicious!! Good job guys! Oh and the service was excellent very friendly and patient, given we showed up 15 min before closing and stayed till nearly 10pm. Oops.
