Anniversary Dinner - Nice Atmosphere, Missed Recognition My wife and I celebrated our 23rd wedding anniversary at Rays on the River on December 19th. We noted the occasion when reserving and requested a booth, which was honored. The greeting was warm, the ambiance was beautiful, and the live music and river views made for a great setting. The food met expectations, and our server was courteous and professional. However, as the evening went on, we noticed other tables celebrating birthdays and anniversaries receiving special recognition, including complimentary desserts. Despite notifying the restaurant in advance and again during service, our anniversary was not acknowledged, and we paid for our dessert. A manager later confirmed that special occasions are usually recognized, which made the oversight disappointing--especially since this was a meaningful milestone for us. While Rays on the River offers a great atmosphere and solid food, this felt like a missed opportunity to make all guests celebrating special moments feel equally valued. read more

The service was great and made sure everything was great. We had the appetizer sampler, brussels sprouts, corn brûlée and mashed potatoes for the table. They were all pretty good. I had the special red snapper with scallops for the main course. It was ok to good. The scallops were a little overdone and a tad rubbery. The fish was a little bland by itself. It was prepared on a bed of grits and greens. The first was the most flavorful part of the meal. If you ate it all together it was good. I included a picture of the branzino, my friend said it was real good. Overall it was a good meal with great service, unfortunately a good meal does not quite warrant the cost of the meal. read more

UPDATE: I'm updating this reservation based on the service we received over the weekend for our group. We had a large party and was told the policy changed for large parties a few months ago. If it is 6 or more people it would be one ticket. When I made the reservation 6 months ago, it was 10 or more for one ticket. We never received an update from the restaurant about the policy change. The hostess said we could ask the server to separate it but the restaurant was strict on their new policy. Luckily, our group size changed and we did not run into an issue of one ticket. This is an FYI for future guests who are not made aware of the policy change. Our server, for this dining experience, Anthony, is the cause for me knocking off a star or two. We seemed to be an inconvenience to him. He was not rude, he was polite, but he did not provide the great service I'm use to receiving from Ray's on the River. Came in on a Tuesday night 3/18/25 Sat at the bar, really clean venue great lighting, first bartender "Troy" was great I asked about the "here we go again" cocktail and Troy said it's amazing and it was! Ordered the share size lobster Mac says 2-4 and for a starter I think that number holds was amazing. Cedric my second waiter also great recommended their filet with bone marrow butter, I took Cedric's recommendation to hear and ordered just that the 12oz filet with bone marrow butter. Steak was cooked to perfection medium rare and also tried Cedric's drink recommendation the classic margarita. I have heard about this place for years and I was so happy to finally get the chance to go!!! I made a reservation for a Friday night for my dad's birthday. We did have to wait some but no big deal we just got some drinks at the bar! We were seated near the window with a view which was a treat! We each got a drink and I got the lemon drop martini per the waitress' suggestion and it was delicious and tart! For appetizers, we got some oysters and the artesanal bread basket. The oysters were so fresh and delicious and the bread basket was HUGE and came with 4 different kinds of bread! For the main, they had a surf and turf special so I got the 6oz fillet with 3 collosal shrimp. As a table, we shared the fries and Mac and cheese and we had MORE than enough food. Everything was delicious and well cooked! My dad ordered the grouper and it was delayed the so waitress comped a beer of his on the house which was so sweet! Always have a great time here and the service is usually exceptional every time. Today's visit was not as great as others but I won't knock them for trying as it could've been an off day. Some of my favorites are both salmon dishes, the Oscar and blackened salmon salad, they're great. Today, they had a special for a lobster Cobb salad so I decided to try it. I ordered mine without bacon. Listen, with Cobb salads there's always that chance bacon will be added by mistake then removed once realized and bits fall through the cracks of the salad...this is exactly what happened. I smelled it almost immediately, but don't like to cause a stir so looked through and handpicked the bits I could find out and continued. Finally I could still taste the bacon so I mentioned to the waiter and they immediately rectified it making a new one for me. They also forgot to bring out the lobster initially so my discovery of the bacon came late since I waited to start eating from the beginning, waiting on the lobster to come out. I'm not easily disturbed, I'm currently eating the remake as by the time it came out, the rest of my table finished their meals so I just boxed it up to go. At this point, dessert was ordered to go for the table and the bill was paid while we waited. When they came out with the desserts, mine was missing. Our waiter mentioned he must have missed keying in mine so he'll put the order in to the kitchen and come back with the bill for it. In my mind, we've already been waiting. We already paid. I basically waited the entire meal so I would have expected him to just comp it for the inconvenience but turns out when he returned to the kitchen they told him they forgot to give him mine. Like I said before, today just could've been an off day for them, but mistakes like this are an inconvenience during lunch for work purposes. We were there much longer than expected. Thankfully, it all worked out but I'm being generous with this review rating, given my experience here is usually a great one. By the way, if you want to guarantee seating by the river, lunchtime has always been a winner for me. It's a gorgeous view. read more

Ambiance is nice specially the outdoor seating, service lots of mistakes had to wait 4 minutes for my steak knife, champagne was warm (no apologies), had yo ask for some ice cubes. Baked potato was not hot and we had to ask for it to be replaced. Steak was very fatty unfortunately. I might return for just some wine. read more

My husband and I hadn't been to Ray's on the River in a long time, so after closing a major investment deal, we decided to celebrate there last night. Unfortunately, we were seated next to a large party of about eight people, and our server was managing both tables. It felt like most of his attention was focused on the larger group rather than on us. For appetizers, we ordered the Oysters Rockefeller, but they had more spinach than oyster. The she-crab soup arrived lukewarm, which was disappointing. For my entrée, I ordered a bone-in ribeye, cooked medium rare, but it was tough and difficult to cut through. On the other hand, my husband enjoyed his surf and turf. I tasted his filet mignon, and it was tender, well-seasoned, and flavorful--exactly what I had hoped for with my ribeye. Beautiful setting on the Chattahoochee and truly great service, but the food was very disappointing. The pimento cheese balls arrived cold and unexpectedly spicy, the bread service was just two warm buns, and we waited about 45 minutes for our meals after the manager realized our order had never been sent to the kitchen. My steak came out medium rare instead of medium well and was overcorrected into leather after being sent back. The seabass was excellent, but the beans and vegetables were undercooked, and the mac and cheese arrived with truffles when we ordered the regular version. We appreciated the complimentary drink and dessert, but overall the experience didn't live up to the restaurant's potential. read more

The atmosphere as soon as you walk in is delightful, along with the instantaneous friendly, helpful service. The menu selection is so good that it makes it hard to choose what you want, but you honestly can't go wrong with anything. I had the vodka pasta with the addition of chicken, and it was the best vodka sauce I've ever consumed. My waitress was Tangie, and she was vibrant and so kind from the second we sat down, through leaving, leaving my whole table with a smile for the rest of the evening. Overall immaculate. I highly suspect the valets fill up the free (non-valet) parking to force guests to use valet parking. When complained, they said I could use the valet parking and added "Just be sure to tip us on the way out". The menu is limited with mostly unhealthy options. We got the gumbo and the seafood platter but didn't want the mashed potatoes, but we were told no substitutes for that plate, so we had them subtracted. The plate came out with very little food on it, it was quite ridiculous, all that plate space empty, with just one crabcake, 3-4 shrimp, and 2 scallops; it tasted ok but was over-buttered. The gumbo was inedible, with way too much salt. afterward I was not feeling well afterward and our friends who ate there the same night were also sick. I called Rays and left a message. An Unforgettable Dining Experience Dinner was absolutely amazing. Out of all the steak restaurants in Atlanta, this one truly stands out -- especially when it comes to service. Hubby and I love coming to Rays, once per quarter usually. This experience was noticeably different. It's not hard to tell that they are under new management. Gone is the dress code...and the signature gigantic baked potato. Who eats a steak without a good potato. It has been replaced by gigantic onion rings. And every dish has onion straws on it (were they bought out by Texas Roadhouse ). The brûlée creamed corn is now just creamed corn. And the cook can't seem to get the steak temps right. Needless to say, the collection of small differences adds up to a big NO. Unfortunately, I will not return. read more

We wanted to do it big to celebrate a birthday. After this meal, I may have to find more things to celebrate!! We were greeted with warm smiles and seated at the time of our reservation. Our table by the window gave us a clear view of the river and outdoor seating area. It was lovely. Our server, Mike, was familiar with the menu and made great recommendations. We each had a cocktail that he suggested: the fig old fashioned and the eye candy. Our meals were larger than we expected. Keep that in mind if you also order starters. He had a steak and I had the trout. We both had sizeable portions to bring home. The sides are also large and can easily provide 3 or 4 servings. Bad service overall. The hostess and manager that seated us were kind and gave us a great table. Our waitress's was Inattentive and blasé after a long wait through every interaction. Excellent food, excellent service, excellent ambiance. My boyfriend and I were very impressed with the menu. There were so many options from lamb to crab cakes to steak to shrimp and grits. Food selection of appetizers and cocktails as well. We enjoyed the shrimp and grits, New York strip, goat cheese fritters and a delicious bread basket, whipped mashed potatoes, and ended the night with a chocolate brownie. After our meal, we were brought out essential oil infused towelettes to wipe our hands off with that made our skin so soft. Definitely a very elevated experience. Enjoy beautiful Chattahoochee River views from an elegant dining room setting. We sat inside for our dinner reservation and truly enjoyed the scenery and excellent service from start to finish. I started with the Georgia Peach 'Tini cocktail and my date had the sparkling wine. The waiter poured from the shaken mixer, straight into my glass and it was a generous portion and nice presentation. For dinner, I had the Petite Filet Mignon served medium with a side of corn crème brûlée, which added a nice creamy sweetness. My date had the surf and turf with garlic mashed potatoes. He thoroughly enjoyed the flavors and portion size. We finished off the dinner with a warm berry cake topped with vanilla ice cream and the combination of warm butter cake and ice cream was delectable. Wonderful experience. We ordered calamari as an appetizer, along with the seafood gumbo. Definitely get the calamari but skip the gumbo, i've had WAY better gumbos than this one. It was lacking in flavor and ended up being pushed to the side after a few spoonfuls. We also ordered the macaroni and cheese, and a NY strip and a fillet mignon. Both ordered medium rare. The cook on the steaks was perfect and they were delicious. The macaroni and cheese was good but not amazing. I truly believe this place's view is WAY better than the food. I really enjoyed the location since it's right next to Chattahoochee River and had beautiful views. We started off with ordering two seafood samplers which included calamari, fried shrimp, oysters, crab cakes, fried lobster tails and grilled shrimp. I really enjoyed the sampler and one was good for 5-6 people. For the main meal, I went with the salmon burger which was okay but I did like the bun and avocados in it. For dessert, I went with crème brûlée which was pretty tasty but wished it was a bit more warm. The food was good. Service was terrible initially, but they stepped up their game at the end. Seating was terrible. We had an 8 PM reservation and thought that if it were late, everything would go quickly. Boy, were we wrong. We had to wait almost an hour to get a table. Once we got the table, it was a small two-seater that was next to the worker's machine and stairs. Absolutely terrible seating, and the air vent was blowing at us. They were kind to move us, but they moved us to another place with the air vent blowing at us from the ceiling. After the third time, they finally got it right. We ordered the oysters, and they were good. Nothing crazy fancy. The saltine crackers were probably expired because they were stale. The server did good by giving us a fresh batch of crackers. The ribeye was cooked perfectly, and it had a nice char to it, so that was a plus because their food was very tasty. Had dinner here for the first time since the new ownership. Was surprised we had to pay for the bread that used to come to every table. The new menu had many of our favorite items deleted. The steak was good, as well as the crab cake. Definitely don't get the house salad, which was terrible! All it literally was is Bibb lettuce DROWNED in Dijon mustard making it inedible - not what I expected from this fine dining restaurant. Our server was excellent. Went for brunch yesterday after making reservations & WOW what a beautiful view! Accommodated my request for a table by the window & hostess was so nice to take my crutches as I walked the few steps down. Had a very nice server, & the chocolate martinis were SO good but thought from the description they would've had whipped cream on top (my friend thought the exact same). Honestly after that i was underwhelmed. While my Crab Cakes Benedict was reasonably tasty, I've had it many times & never had it served w fried onion straws & menu never included that in the description. As well, it didn't come w anything - no fruit, no small lil salad w it on the plate - so it was on a bigger plate w a lot of negative space. Kinda surprised it wouldn't at least be served on a smaller plate so that wouldn't be so obvious. And maybe I'm old school, but being charged $5 for tea after getting 2 cocktails for over $30 - really?? Never had a bad experience here until my last visit. Anisha L. was literally the worst server I have EVER had, I was a server in the past, so I always sympathize with servers, because I have been there & done that, so I am not one to typically complain about service, so it is bad. A person at our table requested a bloody mary with no spice, Anisha brought a bloody mary full of pepper, eventually about 10 minutes later upon Anisha's return to our table, we said it was spicy with pepper, her reply was that we said no spicy & pepper is different, got us something else, OK. We stacked up the appetizer plates while we were finishing the appetizers, because Anisha kept asking to take the large appetizer plates & I set them on the end of the table right to be polite, in front of my appetizer plate I was still eating from. Anisha took our entree order, I asked her to please take the stack of large appetizer plates, she had our menus & a server tray & she looked right at me with attitude & said when she had free hands she would, a few minutes later she finally took the dirty plates from directly in front of me, then I was able to finish my plate of appetizer food. When Anisha dropped off our entrees she touched my bacon on the plate with her bare hand, didn't say anything or take it back, then when reaching past my plate she dragged her stained & dirty shirt sleeve by her wrist across the top of the hollondaise sauce portion of my plate, literally & also didn't say a word about it or offer to replace it. That is absolutely unacceptable & unprofessional & gross to be frank about it. It is doubtful I will return here based on our experience and the way we were treated by Anisha. On a side note, which is not the server's fault, the eggs benedict eggs were literally hard boiled, not runny at all. Pretty sad when this is the experience we get for paying almost $100 per adult for brunch. read more
