Never again. I came here a few weeks back for the first time and thought the place was neat as it reminded me of a typical NJ mom and pop pizzeria. The pizza was pretty good considering I haven't found much to satisy my pizza taste out here in Cali. Well here comes the problem. I ordered 2 "large" pies (turned out to be rather small, about the size of a standard medium anywhere else). The toppings on the one was pepperoni half and sausage half. The other pizza was plain. I greet the delivery guy and the bill was 41.00!!! 2 LARGE PIZZAS 41.00?!?! Are you KIDDING me! I had the driver call Ray on his cell phone so we could figure out where the error was. It turns out there was no error and the plain was 16 dollars and the topping pizza was 18 dollars... o and I was never told about a 5.00 delivery fee bringing the total with tax to a ridiculous 41.00 for 2 large pizzas. This is outlandish. I told the driver thanks and I will never be ordering from them nor will I dine there ever again. read more

Best pizza I've found in orange County. So good that I can't find myself within 10 miles of the place without feeling the pull to pick up a pie. And every time I do I arrive to a smiling Ray or his son who greet me as if they remember me although they probably don't. Even more welcoming is the smell of spices and knowledge that my mouth is about to be in warm cheesy heaven. As much as I enjoy a good small business where the owner works the counter more often than not, the true beauty of this place is the pie. The sauce is perfection. A perfect balance of zesty flavors that matches up well with the quality cheese they use all sitting atop a light foldable crust that somehow still has a crispy just baked bite to it. I can't speak for toppings because I've never needed anything other than a simple cheese pie from Ray's, but the way this man has a gift with a plain pie I imagine his more complicated creations are also delicious. Do yourself a favor and check this place out, and then understand why I drive 25 minutes out of my way for this gem. read more

I've gone to Ray's a couple of times and thought the pizza by the slice was pretty good. The place itself is nothing special, about room for 12 or so inside but you can eat outside.However, last night we got a medium and a large pizza to go. The large was very good, with a nice thin NY style crust but the medium was really bready with the crust at least 1/4". We decided that what happens is they use the same amount of dough regardless of size. So...go for the large or just stick to slices. read more

Rays, they used to have two arcade games...This owner was (and probably still is) one of the friendliest, which made it the best place to hang out with friends and have good food. We have been going to Ray's since it opened. My son, Scott and my wife worked in the center and office building in which Ray is located. He is almost like family as the kids grew up. So lucky to live near by. Consistent- time after time. Contrary to a review i saw, this is not a part of the NYC iconic "Ray's Pizza." The owner is, however, named Ray and being a New Yorker...this is our choice. :) Every time we try another pizza place we end up coming back to Ray. Having been born and raised in LA, I can't say I know much about NY pizza and how it's supposed to taste, but the pizza here was pretty good. I had the pepperoni and hawaiian, and both were delicious, with the crust being thin and crisp. Would go back again. read more

I've been coming to rays shop for the last six years. It brings an authentic feel for New York style pizza. As cooperate establishments came into utc, slowly all the mom and pop shops are slowly vanishing. There's a blaze pizza in the same plaza to raise competition for a restaraunt essentially selling the same product. I still stick to rays pizza for the family feel I get when I buy my food. The family tries to establish relationships with its customer much I can appreciate. I just love this establishment and the history it brings to Irvine. read more

Irvine doesn't have many friendly hole-in-the-wall places, but Ray's Pizza is definitely one of them. The people are great and prices even better. I know a lot of people that love the pizza. Good pizza, but nowhere near New York style. Maybe the pizza by the slice is NY style, but this definitely was not. We ordered a pizza with a few toppings to split. The jalapenos were fresh and there was a ton of garlic, which we like. We also asked for tomatoes, which they put on cold after the pizza was cooked. I'd prefer to have them cooked on. Still tasted good, but was odd. The crust was on the thick side and had great flavor and crunch to it. Overall, the pizza was very good. I'd definitely go back, and maybe see if the pizza by the slice is actually NY style pizza. read more

Probably the best pizza in Irvine. Pretty good NY style, though not amazing. Somewhat expensive for pizza. For God knows what reason, they don't deliver. If they did I would order from there somewhat regularly. It actually seems like Ray is trying to run his business into the ground- refuses to pay a delivery guy $8 an hour to double his business, and whenever you go in there he acts extremely obnoxious and won't leave customers alone. This place would be much better and successful without Ray bothering his customers and making some weird stand against hiring a delivery guy. read more

I'm a student at UCI I recently decided to try rays for the first time, and I have to say I really like it. I'm originally from NJ and California pizza generally sucks but Rays is definitely up to par with the New York style pizza I'm used to. Easily in my top 3 NY style pizza joints out here. The food is great for quick food when on a schedule. The people working there are pretty nice but Ray may be a little over friendly to the point where it's intrusive. Quality of the food ain't bad and would recommend checking it out but maybe enjoying the food outside. read more

I will rate Ray's pizza a 3 out of five stars because: The service was good: The cashier man was friendly. I got a take-out and it didn't took long in order to get my food. I like the fact that the place had the old arcade games like Street Fighter which was my old favorite game when I was a child and once again I got be Chun Li and I was playing it with my friend while we waited. When the food was done the cashier man told us "I put all the things that you need fork, knife, and a napkins" unlike in other restaurants that we need to get our own utensils. The food: I ordered meat ravioli with meat sauce on top, but there was way too much meat sauce. I could see through the clear lid that the foiled bowl was filled with meat sauce all the way to the top. While I was trying to open it, some the meat sauce was dripping down the foiled bowl which made quite a bit of a mess. However, it was enough in order to dip it in with some garlic bread. I kind of liked the garlic bread because it had a good amount of salt, other spices, and the bread was not strong in garlic unlike in other Italian restaurants, but it kind of looked a little greasy on the top. Since I got a take-out, I didn't really expect the food to be placed perfectly and nicely, but it looked like they randomly put the ravioli in the foiled bowl and just poured a lot of meat sauce on top. The very top of the meat ravioli had a good flavor and was soft, but at the very bottom some pieces of pasta were kind of sticking into the foiled place and couldn't really cut it. Overall it was fairly good and I may probably get some in the later future. Although Ray's Pizza does not open late in the night in the seven days of the week, the restaurant is a good place for a last minute dinner or if you are in a hurry. read more
