The new hostess is horrible. She gave away my order, which mistakes happen. But then proceeds to fight in front of me with the other host about whose mistake it was. When she placed my order, I asked if my order had been placed with the food restrictions. She proceeded to toss me the order ticket and told me to check for myself. I have been going to this restaurant for years. I left my number so the manager could give me a call, no call as of yet. In addition, while waiting for my food, she would grab the tickets and cards from the customers, make no eye contact, and did not greet the client. One of the things that made this place great was the hospitality of the former owners. They seriously have to skill up this host's customer service skills. This all in front of a huge City of Covina best places to eat banner. Wow read more

I love this place! If you grew up in East LA like me, you know El Tepeyac. This spot is related to El Tepeyac. You gotta give this spot a try. Ask for a Hollenbeck Special it is the same as the old east LA original. So good. The staff are amazing and keep the service at a high level. So good to have east LA in east SGV! read more

Great phone order experience and food really hot the spot. Called in advance for a carnitas burrito to go. Order was smooth and friendly. Food was ready when they promised and the flavors were there. I have had better carnitas and the salsa was way too mild for me, but it hit the spot and was was big enough for left overs. With the dining room open, I will stop by to dine in so I can give a full review, but for this take out experience, it was really pretty good. read more

This is my wife and mine to-go-to Mexican restaurant. And I guess others agree they are always busy. The food is very good. Not too spicy and plenty of it. Since we go there almost every week the staff knows us. My wife gets the wine, not great quality. But, they do not have Stella beer. I have tried the burritos, they are good. But, I am a taco salad guy with shredded beef. My only complaint is a charge extra for sour cream on my taco salad most places it comes with it but that's a minor thing so that's not a big deal. I just paid the dollar and a half. My wife is never able to finish her shrimp thing she gets she has to take some home, the food comes out hot. The chips are warm that they give you. I like this place. The staff knows us the place is clean. The staff is friendly and the food is good. read more

I would give a 0 if I could. Beware! We been going here for years but not anymore. Overpriced food, the give a charge 3% if you use debt/credit card. Salsa is tomato down. This place use to be our go too all the time but we won't be returning anymore. read more

Great service, amazing food.. what more can you ask for... 10/10 I'm telling you... we order more then we could eat and we knew it.. but we didn't care lol.. everything was full of flavor, customer service was quick and friendly.. it was beyond fantastic... def be back.. SHOUT OUT TO LUCY- if I remember correctly . Our server was so attentive and sweet and gave us the best service ever.. thank you to everyone especially Lucy! the ambience was chill.. nothing crazy.. nothing that really stood out . First time after driving by for years we finally ate here and it was good. It was a busy Friday night but we were seated immediately and chips and salsa served. Service was very good food was also good we all had different burritos and they are huge! My only complaint was margaritas are wine based guess they don't have a liquor license oh well. Old school Mexican restaurant reminds me of the old Ernie Jr's that I loved. read more

This was the first time we came and ate INSIDE! The first several times we came for lunch, was during the pandemic in their make-shift outside patio, in the parking lot. I usually get the taco/enchilada combo and it never disappoints. Service and the meal were both great and consistent with our previous visits. Rey's What can I say, this place is still bomb! I brought my lady there for the first time. She ordered the beef enchiladas. My lady is from antelope Valley so she's used to different Mexican food in the AV area. As soon as she tried the salsa, she said yes this place is good. She got into the beans and rice. She says Yep this place is great. Once she started eating the enchiladas, she told me this is the best place that you've taken me to since I live down here with you Azusa. So this is her new favorite spot as well as mine it's always been one of my favorites My favorite was the Hollenbeck burrito but since Ray is now gone, it's called something else which is fine still the same. This restaurant is apart of my childhood . My parents took us here in 1998 after church for Sunday meals and for big family gathering when we had family come in town to visit. I absolutely loved everything from the kids menu to their big enchilada plates. It was my first time returning as an adult on this visit and I tried their yummy Caldo! Everything tasted if not the same even better than I remembered. Even the manager David was still there & some new team members! It was lovely seeing them all. They make Ray's dream live on :) I certainly Had a nostalgic dining experience at Rays Tepeyac Mexican restaurant! The waitress , Juanita remembers me when I was a little girl! She been working here like 25 years. She also teach special needs children at her day job. It was so good being there that night May 27th 2022. Most people been working here for like 30 years! I found out sadly the owner , Ray, Past a few years ago . Imagine this dark Mexican man with a white suit , white cowboy hat, gold jewelry, and a mustache. That was Ray ! Ray use to have pictures all in the front room of himself posing with celebrities that would come to this place and try his amazing Mexican food and experience the family comfort hospitality. We've been loving this place for over 30 years! The food has maintained its deliciousness and the recipes are just as good as ever! My family loves the tacos (beef, fish, and chicken), burritos, albondigas, chilequiles, rice and beans and everything else we've tried! Love to get the horchata or orange soda and of course they have all the usuals as well. The staff is all friendly and mostly bilingual. It's awesome to have a place that never wavers as our favorite Mexican restaurant! Even though the ownership has changed over the years, and Ray is no longer with us, we still feel so comfortable here read more

Excellent food, excellent service, excellent value. just look at this wet burrito, it was delicious! i can taste a slight bit of lime or lemon in the green chili sauce, so delicious!! I recommend to try to visit during the week days, late after noon or early dinner time, because allot of people know this place has awesome food! We ordered through DoorDash and we tried the wet asada burrito, kids bean and cheese meal and the cocido. My wife enjoyed the soup and my son got a giant bean and cheese, that he finished the next day. My wet asada burrito was alright. Nothing fancy. It was big though and it fed me twice. Next time, we'll try them again but at the restaurant. read more

Went to pick up take out, over $50 in food. Asked for a small bag chips n the guy at register tells me "sorry I have to charge you". I tell him I don't want the big bag u sell just a couple of chips in a small bag. He says" let me ask n comes back n says "they said no u have to pay for them. Next time I guess I have to sit down get my FREE CHIPS N SALSA n then tell them to wrap everything up n take it home lol read more

Was brought here for Mother's Day breakfast. Seated right away! No wait. It was around 10:30-11 maybe. Looking around I could tell there were a lot of regulars. Seemed to have really good relationships with the waiters. I ordered the taquitos appetizer platter as my entree. The potato tacos were delicious! The beef taquitos & flautas were also good but they weren't great to me. My boyfriend ordered the chorizo plate. He said it was very yummy!!! Service is good. Everything came out fast! Good place! This place has been here for a long time. We tried it like 28 years ago, but we thought we'd give it another try. I ordered the chicken mole and it was okay...it tasted old. So disappointed! Hear great things about this place new to the area a few people said had great breakfast on Sundays. We decided to try their tamales de pollo and red pork so sad in all honesty, they were dry not enough seasoning and not spicy it's more tomato base.. also tried the torta de milanesa omg first it's the size of a pencil super small bolillo and skinny ... the mear was bland no flavor at all so sad .. I can't see how someone will recommend this place I was so disappointed not happy at all .. to top it off..... we bought pan Dulce and let me tell you it was rock hard, minus well chewed a rock from the sidewalk read more

I used to eat lunch here when I worked in the area and the food is excellent. Huge burritos, good value for the money and excellent taste, you can't go wrong. I have had the chile verde, machaca and carne asada burritos and loved them all. The people here are very nice and everything is served hot and fast. I wish this were in my area after having dinner here for the first time in a decade and had the tastymachaca burrito again. It was easily worth the trip even though I live on the other side of town now. Lots of parking and not too noisy in the dining room. read more

After about 15 minutes when my server finally came by, I told her of the situation. She said "I'll go check." Then disappeared. Instead, we spent three hours waiting only to be treated as though our time didn't matter. What was most shocking was Jorge's attitude. He literally told me, "They won't do anything to me if you post this. I'm friends with the owner." If that's the mindset of management, it's no surprise customers are treated this way. I have just started coming here last Sunday and I just have a few things to say about this restaurant. The food for one is outstanding. The cooks are VERY quick to cook our orders. The waiters get orders out fast. The people are awesome. Don't you love when u can go to a restaurant and also make friends?! My wife and I live in Washington and we're here visiting our son for his graduation and this is his favorite restaurant so we came here. There's 2 people whose work ethic stood out to me and that's David and mckena, he was taking care of our large party and she was assisting him, I'm not sure what her job duty was but she was doing it all! If you haven't tried this place, you definitely should! If you want good service, GREAT Mexican food, good music, good vibes from the workers, I suggest you come here! well, i can't write as good as some of the oter reviews, But what i can tell you is that this place is AUTHENTIC! This isnt no fast food mexican or corprately owned chain. It's the real deal mexican food! My favorite? The Albondiga soup. It's a meat ball soup with oregano and potatoes and carrots in this killer broth that you only find in REAL Mexican restaraunts! I went in the other day and how things have changed. Guess it's under new ownership.The servers who have been there for years are amazing as always! David, Denise and Lucy are some of my faves. Unfortunately we ended up with some new waitress who didn't really speak English. She had her belly button hanging out and her panties showing in the back. We were here last night me and my sister and it was so busy. I think there's a couple people who stay at the front but when we went up to pay the blonde one was on the phone , taking two customers payments , bagging food for them and repeated the order back to the customer on the phone so quick and impressively!! After hearing great things about this place, I had an early dinner at Ray's Tepeyac because I needed to kill some time while getting my car's oil changed at a nearby mechanic's shop. For only $22.17 (before tip), I enjoyed the Pollo (Chicken) En Mole With Whole Beans & Corn Tortillas, two bottles of Bohemia Pilsner, and the complimentary chips and house salsa. First and foremost, the restaurant is very clean, well-maintained, and inviting, with colorful decor and salsa music softly playing in the background. We were also greeted immediately with a "welcome" by two or three female employees. At this point in our visit, I am really loving this place. The full menu is clearly posted behind the front counter, which makes ordering easy. The young lady who took our order was welcoming and friendly. My wife ordered green chilaquiles, and I ordered huevos à la Mexicana with a large horchata and a diet soda. After we placed our orders, we sat at an empty booth, and almost instantly our waitress approached our table with a basket of hot chips dipped in beans, which I had never tried. These chips were AMAZING, as they were fresh, tasty, and the beans made them the perfect way to start our breakfast. Our food arrived at our table in eleven minutes, and everything we ordered looked appealing. After a quick prayer for our food, we had an incredible, fun dining experience. Our dishes were flavorful, filling, and perfectly prepared. Every single item was truly DELICIOUS!! I am a huge fan of beans, and these beans were AMAZING!! The restaurant also offers guests unlimited soft drink refills, iced cold water, and an unlimited salsa bar. They also offer Taco Tuesday and karaoke night, among other weekly fun activities at this restaurant. One thing which really stood out to me was how many customers were dining inside, taking advantage of the outdoor seating area, and/or picking up to-Go orders. This is a very popular restaurant and with good reason. It is AWESOME!! What really impressed me, and I mentioned it to one of the employees, was that as each guest walked out of the restaurant, ALL employees could be heard saying, "Have a great day." The exact words I say to EVERYONE every single day of my life. The positive vibes at the restaurant were overflowing, and my wife and I loved it!! I truly wish to thank employees Amy, Frances, and Jess for making our first visit such a positive experience.
