Love trying out local coffee shops and supporting smaller businesses but today was not one of those times. I'm not one for bad reviews either, but this experience definitely warranted one. 1st off, the breakfast empanadas are Im pretty sure frozen ones from Costco. Not so great 2nd off, I stopped by as their main picture on yelp shows a picture of latte art, and was presented a drink where the guy did not even try to do so. I asked them if anyone could do it there, and he said yes so I asked them if they could remake it. They all basically teamed up together and said I would have to pay again if I wanted it re made. The coffee tasted only sub par (still better than Starbucks but not great) and the milk was steamed over temp- no way I was paying for another one. I told them just to throw it away then. Latte art isn't that hard - If the baristas cant learn a simple task like that, that's how you know the coffee isn't going to be great. Don't know how this place has 4.5 stars. Definitely doesn't deserve it based on my interaction. read more

We were in our way to the SB zoo! First impression: this coffee shop has an adorable beach house shingle feel with thick white trim, and a colorful door. It's so cute! They did a good job making a small space feel inviting. Ordered: cold brew with vanilla, iced latter with brown sugar and almond milk Pros: friendly staff, beautiful hanging plants, cute decor, right off the freeway, adorable town, outdoor seating. Cons: this is more of a come and go shop, or sit outside place only because of the size. My brown sugar latte wasn't very sweet, but I have a big sweet tooth. Different milk was a 75 cent up charge which is a little steep to me. I will go back! So cute! read more

We found Red Kettle Coffee by chance. What a great find! The staff is great and the property is cute, but the coffee is why you should go there. My new favorite coffee drink is the house special "Ray of Sunshine" latte with turmeric, honey and cinnamon... Perfect taste! Their custom blended & locally roasted espresso bean is amazing. We bought a pound to bring home... It is some of the best-tasting espresso beans that I have found. This is now going to be a stop for us when we drive by Summerland. read more

COVID: Face mask required. All workers wore face mask. A one way in and out path. This cute little coffee shop was a few minutes walk from our AirBnb so we gave it a try Sunday morning. Walking in there are many local handcrafted art, cards, jewelry and more for sale. The barista was super friendly and knowledgeable in deciding what to try. I decided to go with the little ray of sunshine with coconut milk, although I was hesitant because I have tried a turmeric latte elsewhere and found it bitter and not tasty. I'm glad I got it because it was so comforting. I woke up with a slight tummy ache and felt sooo much better after drinking this! My friend got the spicy chai latte with extra foam. She enjoyed how the cayenne pepper, a recommended add on by the barista, adds some extra warmth and was a good balance with the sweetness. Overall, a must stop for me when you pass through Santa Barbara. Great drinks and has a great barista who has "sparkly eyes" as my friend describes. read more

I hadn't really explored the small town of Summerland before, but the reviews for Red Kettle Coffee drew me here. They definitely did not disappoint with their multitude of different espresso-based drinks. I really liked the small, intimate space, and it's nice to see a coffee shop with such high ceilings. The walls are adorned with the works of various local artists, most of which is for sale. I came in here during the afternoon before closing and there was definitely a very relaxed atmosphere. I didn't feel rushed at all and was able to comfortably enjoy my drink. The next time I'm passing by, I'm definitely stopping in for some coffee. read more

So here's the story. I live down in Orange County and decided to stop by Red Kettle on my way up to Santa Barbara. Service was absolutely HORRENDOUS. Ordered a matcha latte, and what I got was instead a pile of lumpy matcha stuck at the bottom. By the way, they charge 5.50 for this junk. Asked the woman to remake it but said I would have to pay to make it again. Didn't get her name but this employee was so rude and disrespectful. She gave me rude and inconsiderate stares when I asked her to remake my matcha. WORST MATCHA. read more

Red Kettle Coffee is a gem. First of all, they have great coffee. My favorite drink is 'The Rainy Day' which is chocolate, hazelnut and honey, yum!! They also have yummy pastries. They also feature local artists and crafts in their retail area that is very specific to the summerland area, making it a go to place for great gifts! They are also pup friendly on their cute back patio. My pup loves a treat and bowl of fresh water after a long walk! Their whole bean coffee amazing, especially the 805 blend! Some friends bought it as a present and it made for a really great americano--which to me is impressive as I normally prefer a latte. These beans are a bit more on the oily side so remember to periodically clean your espresso grinder so that the grinds don't clump on the bottom. Do yourself a favor and try their coffee. Lovely place to stop and chat, more seating in back patio. I tried their Dragun green tea and it was refreshing. My Mum ordered the turtle latte, it's really sweet just how she likes it. The nicest and best cashier/barista, really took the time to recommend specific coffees for every single person in my party, so enthusiastic and personable and really engaging. So nice! Very put off by single use cups. This is a wonderful shop! The atmosphere is quintessential SB, the WiFi is good, the food is nice and the coffee is great. I love that they have oat milk and the signs were super cute. We were very impressed when we walked in, but upon ordering we found that they had no single-use cups, that it was all paper and plastic. We understand that the facilities and time for dishes can be constraining, but this will probably keep us from coming back. I think it is simply too glaring of an environmental consideration to be on the unsustainable side of. One big thing that I was unable to get enough info on was the sustainability and quality of their sourcing. read more

By far the most mediocre coffee I have had in quite some time. The place is quiet and kind of reminds me of the show Portlandia, because of the stuff they have for sale and the Hipster vibe. They give a good detailed description on what types of coffee they have and what to expect from the flavor profile, which left me all the more disappointed when I pretty much got a cup of hot water. I tried 2 of their roasts and both were an extreme disappointment. The medium roast loterally tasted like a watery tea with beyond bland flavor and the dark roast was even a sad joke of a brew that tasted like their bean to water ratio needed some serious adjusting. I know they also had some food and Juice items on the menu, so maybe they put more of their attention and enthusiasm to that side of the menu. All I can say for sure is that for being a place with coffee in the title of business, they were an extreme disappointment. This place made me want to go to Starbucks, although I can honestly say I have even had a better cup of coffee made at McDonalds. Hell, I could have even gone across the street to the local liquor store and probably picked up some freeze-dried coffee and made a better brew myself. Wish I could leave a full 5 stars because I have had a decent experience here in the past. I think the baked goods are really awesome and it is a cute coffee shop. Unfortunately the last time I was here the service was somewhat unfriendly. Not exactly rude but lackluster and slightly unwelcoming. Then I stopped by again today to give it another shot and it was really disappointing. I got two plain coffees and a "matcha soda" the matcha soda was advertised on a blackboard outside but the employee seemed to not know what it was. Overheard his coworker explain how to make it but she didn't help him at all. It seemed like he was new and probably could have used a demo. She appeared to have a not so great attitude, and when I asked for cream for my coffee (it was not out where I was told it would be) she just slid it over to me without a word. There was hardly any left in the jug but I didn't want to trouble her for more cause she came off a little annoyed- even though I was the only person in the shop. Hmm. When the matcha soda was handed to me I took a sip and it was shockingly bad, the taste was very bitter and slightly fishy with a splash of sparkling water, no ice and the texture was thick. With not even a hint of sweetness to it whatsoever. It tasted like a mistake. This is coming from someone who likes matcha, strong even & I tend to like things on the less sweet side. I had my friend try a sip to make sure it wasn't just me and she agreed that it didn't taste right by anyone's standard. Considering the cost I brought it back in and just said I don't wanna be rude but this is really bad. The barista didn't offer to remake it, refund me just "oh well it's supposed to come with apricot syrup or peach syrup..." That seemed a little weird since it wasn't mentioned on the blackboard or to me when I ordered it. It was very awkward I kinda think he thought maybe that I just didn't like the taste of matcha and didn't realize it or something. So I just said never mind and left it and went on my way. I think he hadn't made one before so really not his fault and he was nice enough so I don't want to blame him. Like I mentioned above I think the other barista with attitude should have helped him make one since he didn't know and when I overheard her directions they weren't very specific and she sounded a little short with him, I did hear her tell him simple syrup and I don't think he remembered to add it. Honestly I could totally look past the one bad drink if the service had been better that time and the previous time I was in. I probably won't return though, at $12.75 for two drip coffees and the inedible "matcha soda" it's a little off base. The cookies are good though so there's that at least! And on my first visit I had a lavender latte that was very good. read more
