Food is always delicious I have zero complaints about our food.....however do not go dine-in at 8pm if you walk in there at 8pm they lady's will tell you that you only have 15 minutes to eat mind you they close at 9pm. Usually we never go this late but we decided to go there instead .usually we don't take a long time eating we were done way before 9 but we did feel rushed ! Very disappointing since we drive from Riverside just to get there and for the rude lady to tell me I have 15 minute to eat! And other people can in after us and she told them they have 10 minutes to eat this is ridiculous! Not of all, you can experience discrimination of you are a Asian. The lady is very kind to white people but super mean to Asians. She never say "Hi" to me and her tone of voice was mean. Brea doesn't have many Chinese restaurants. I hope that we can have a good restaurant of manner and attitude. read more

First time they hung up on me, 2nd time they said "we're frickin busy". Apparently they didn't have a driver. Nice typical Chinese / American restaurant. Quick service. We tried the cashew chicken and the salt & pepper pork chops. Both were good. So I've been here twice. The food is pretty good and I like that they have vegetarian options. I really like their vegetable chow mein. The service both times I was there was not good. So I will be ordering takeout in the future. While dining there many, many take out orders were picked up. The last time I was there the restaurant got a rush of pick up orders, phone calls and dine in customers. They only had the 1 lady server doing everything. Our food came out fast but saw other people waiting and our drinks came towards the end of our meal. So I recommend doing take out due to lack of customer service for dine in customers. read more

Everytime we are in Brea we always stop here. We typically order the same thing:The house fried rice and the wor wonton soup. However sometimes we do switch it up and order different things such as the shrimp chow mein, chicken and broccoli and szechuan chicken. The food was good. However, I called in to pick up an order and the woman who I spoke with on the phone was extremely rude. I can understand that each order of orange chicken (which I had 3 orders of this and each order came out very dry), sweet and sour chicken (ordered 2 portions and came out delicious), and filet mignon (tasted very bland, I had to put my own seasoning on it) comes with a side of steamed rice, but I asked if I could substitute the steamed rice for a vegetable fried rice or chow mein and she flat out said "no." I feel like I should have the option to substitute the rice because it's literally a waste of food that could be used for another order. Then I asked her very specifically how big or small the portions are for an order of the vegetable fried rice and the vegetable chow mein are, if they are big enough for 3 people to eat from or small enough for just one person. After that she raised her voice at me and said that she doesn't know and that everybody is different to where they eat a lot or very little. She then proceeded to add that she doesn't even eat fried rice or chow mein. My only concern was that I did not want to order too much because my group that I ordered for eats a normal amount of food. So based on the woman's response I ordered 2 orders of chow mein and 2 orders of fried rice. As this was my first time ordering and eating from Red Lantern, I do not intend to do this again because the portions were HUGE and I spent over $120. After I got my food I called back and asked to speak to the manager but the same woman picked up the phone and started yelling at me, refused to get the manager on the phone, and then hung up on me. So here is my Yelp review. As someone who has worked in the food industry I was very disappointed when I heard how this woman spoke to me because when i went to work I always had a smile on my face and put the customer's needs first because I wanted them to have a great experience. Tonight needed some last minute dinner..looked to yelp for delivery and something good. The vote went to Chinese food and not pizza:( lol Buut I will say I'm not mad about the decision! I ordered straight from yelp and got email confirmation and about 25mins later got a door bell ring at our front door! Food was warm..order was correct! They even put soy sauce packets and a few fortune cookies! Food was actually pretty good! Fried rice was my favorite! Chow mein was good! Ok so you're not in SGV where all the authentic Chinese restaurant took charge of this area. Instead, your far away in the OC suburbs of Brea. Let's face it. Who thinks of Brea as a city where you'd expect high standard Asian food, period?? Interestingly enough Red Lantern was better than expected! You'll find the typical Americanized Chinese menu but the actual food is close enough to the real thing . Plus, the owners are Chinese! Although not exactly 100% authentic, I really enjoyed the soups and dishes we ordered and would definitely come back again. Maybe next time I'll try delivery. I was tasked with ordering catering for a 20-person lunch meeting for executives, the main criteria being Chinese food. I started placing an online order with a different restaurant which will remain unnamed, ended up resorting to a Yelp search and, thankfully, found Red Lantern. Their pricing was 40% less in cost than the other chain restaurant, and they had so many more options to choose from. When first calling Red Lantern, I was concerned over the possible language barrier I have experienced with other ethnic food restaurants, (hence my usual preference and initial desire to place an order via online); however the nice lady, Abby, who took my order provided exceptional customer service. I was going to originally order the Large-sized party trays of various foods, but when I told Abby the number of people I needed to feed, she suggested I go down to the Medium sized trays instead, that the Medium would be plenty. I'm glad I followed Abby's advice. I ended up ordering a Medium tray each of Kung Pao Shrimp, Braised String Beans, Chicken with Broccoli, Mongolian Beef, and Egg & Veggie Fried Rice. I also ordered a 25-pc bundle of their Veggie Egg Rolls (she suggested the 25-pc instead of purchasing five of the 4-pc ones which would've been pricier). Everything was delicious, and we still had a large amount of food left over which was nice. Delivery for the catering was on time and free. The gentleman who delivered was very gracious and attentive. So if you are looking for great Chinese food and live/work in Brea, give Red Lantern a try! read more

I was back and forth on whether or not I wanted to order here, but I did and I'm so glad I did! I ordered for pickup the Kung Pao tofu lunch special which came with egg rolls, rice and the entree. The food at the Red Lantern was very disappointing. It tasted like it had just taken from the freezer, heated and served..... there was no real flavor or indication of any "cooking". Orange chicken was chewy, and hard. Kung Pao had very little flavor. Service was ok, but the poor waitress seemed to be the only Person serving. My Husband and I were running around town doing errands, we got so caught up with our stuff that we skipped breakfast and didn't even know it. It was then that I started to wonder why my man-child was being such a grump; then it hit me it was lunchtime. I knew I had to feed him soon....not only for my sake but more so his own safety because I don't know how much more of his bad attitude I could have put up with! I turned to my handy dandy Yelp app. and searched for the nearest Chinese food place, since that was what my husband was craving. I scrolled through the list and based on the star ratings and reviews I decided that Red Lantern would be our next stop. When we walked in we saw that only one other table was occupied. We were immediately greeted and told we could choose our seat. Our waitress just as quickly gave us our menus and took our drink order. A few minutes later she returned and politely took our order. We decided to go with: 1-wonton soup 2-shrimp fried rice 3-lemon chicken And 4-jalapeño beef. Alright so for starters: The wonton soup was, it had nice portions of vegetables, shrimps and wontons. The broth was nicely flavored not bland and definitely not over salted. Overall an average soup a nice for a starter. The shrimp fried rice also had a nice fresh flavoring and plenty of shrimp. The portion was just perfect for the two of us to share without wasting or leaving any behind and still having room for our other dishes without feeling stuffed. This dish too I rate as average, I still think Peking China in Downey has the best shrimp fried rice ever! On to the lemon chicken, it was served as a flat fried breaded cutlet breaded with lemon flavored type syrup on a bed of cabbage with a side of broccoli. Personally I loved this dish. I'm very picky with my meats especially in Chinese restaurants since they tend to use tendons and other part and I only like the clean meat and nothing else that comes along. Luckily for me this dish contained white meat only, very tender and still juicy. The lemon flavor was sweet but not overpowering with just enough tart. I decided to add fresh lemon juice and it just kicked it up a notch...yummmmm! When the lemon chicken came out so did the jalapeño beef an as we dug in our server came running out just minutes later and told us that we had mistakenly been served jalapeño chicken instead. Quite honestly my husband and I couldn't even tell that we were given chicken instead of beef. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not but had she not told us it was chicken we would have never questioned it. Shortly after our server brought out the correct order of jalapeño beef, but we got to keep the chicken one too. Much to our surprise we enjoyed the jalapeño chicken much more than the jalapeño beef. It had tons of jalapeños, which we loved; it may be a turn off for sum but we like our stuff scorching hot! The chicken also had a nice garlic flavoring and the sweetness of the sauce toned down the hot of the jalapeño just enough to still feel the bite but make it that much more enjoyable, rather well balance. As for the service, both serves were polite, cordially and very attentive, very sweet and soft-spoken and we appreciated that they not only told us of the mistake with our order but quickly and without hesitation corrected the mishap. I kicked and cried and asked for Bruxie but they still wanted Chinese food. Finally they said ok, we'd go anywhere you want.. but I was not in the mood anymore. I was the only Asian @ the restaurant. It tasted and smelled weird. I wanted to gag so I stopped eating. BBQ pork egg foo young ($9.99): Why is it mostly cabbage inside this egg foo young. Where is the egg? Why the BBQ pork slices on top were rubbery? The sauce was pretty bad too. Complimentary appetizer of crispy noodle. The food was pretty bad. Probably the worst Chinese sit-down restaurant I've had. I don't mind eating non authentic Chinese food as long it's edible. The service was great though. Super friendly workers. 1 star!! Even Panda Express is better than this. What's for dinner? House Special Orange Chicken and Egg Foo Young. The service was great here and the people running the place are super nice. This restaurant is reminiscent of the old scholl "oriental" places that used to be around when I was a kid and that still exist in the mid west. I am surprised there is one around here. The "New China Town" is just a hop, skip and jump from here..make that a skip. The chicken did not taste right. I am not sure what was wrong with it. The sauce was good. The chicken itself had a strange taste. The egg foo young was AOK but did not really have any taste to it. This is an American-Style Chinese restaurant. I was expecting something more along the lines of what I might find in the SGV. My entire party did not enjoy their meal. My friends were not fans. The best Chinese salt & pepper pork chops ever! It was sooooo yummy, I did not care if I burned my tongue. I kept on eating while the steam was rising from every fried goodness. Flavor bursting. Steaming hot juicy tasty tender fresh bone-in pork & crispy on the outside. Flavor inside & out! I don't think I need to eat fried chicken after eating this fried pork chops. Wor Won Ton Soup was yummy too with lots of ingredients, fresh veggies galore (broccoli, bok choy, snow peas, water chestnuts, mushrooms, carrots, & not sure what the other veggie was... maybe zucchini), shrimp, chicken, pork, & wontons. Meat was tender. Veggies were not over cooked. Mongolian beef was good too. We added spicy chili sauce to add some spice to it. Perfect late nite dinner. Service was good too! Yay, it's local too! No need for us to drive far to Rowland Heights anymore.... It was a dinner beyond our expectations. I expected a notch same or above Panda Express ... an Americanized version of Chinese food, but got a Yummy Chinese meal.... And, I eat at authentic Chinese restaurants all the time. I used to love this place but, like many other old favorites, the quality has seemed to dwindle. I have been ordering here for a while, and the flavor and freshness have always stood out. Our last two times, the flavor has been lacking. So much that I've had to drown the food in Sriracha. The chicken is flavorless. The sauce seems to be runny. The fried rice is not good. I came her for lunch with my cousin since I was craving Chinese food. It's very convenient since its by my house. I ordered their sweet and sour tofu lunch special which came with my choice of white or brown rice as well as a soup and an egg roll. My cousin ordered a pretty standard dish..orange chicken. This place had decent food and decent service. I felt I got good value. My lunch came out to be around $7 after tax. I don't recommend taking a special drive just to eat here but if you're craving chinese food and you're near by, this would be a good option. read more

Good lunch option: tasty food and a good value! Tried two lunch specials, each for $7.99 (they have lunch specials for $5.99, $6.99, and $7.99): broccoli shrimp and orange fish. Lunch specials come with soup, an egg roll or salad, and rice. Serving sizes were surprisingly large for lunch. Equally important, it had really good flavor. A good value in my opinion! Place is quaint with plenty of seating for a lunch crowd. Service was a bit slow initially and improved significantly after they took our order. Went to Red Lantern for lunch. We went in and were seated in a booth. The place was busy. Our server came over and took our drink orders. we asked is we could order food to. He took the food order and got out drinks. They do not have a big choice here for drinks. I got an Ice Tea. A little frig in the corner had a few other drinks. Kind of strange. My meal came out with fried rice and an egg roll. My friend just got his rice and waited for the rest of the meal. Again, kind of strange. The rice was not hot. Just warm. The egg roll was just ok. My friends remaining meal came out well after I had started eating. Not sure why this would happen. Everything should come out at once. My Shrimp and Broccoli was good. Not the best just good. The rice was just ok and not hot. The soup was just ok too. The price for lunch special was ok at $7.99 for the food and drinks were cheap. The parking is ok, we had to park only about 10 spaces away from the front door. The place was somewhat clean. The tables were somewhat clean. The air inside was a bit stale.
