I dropped by the Goldilocks in Carson, and I didn't realize there was a Red Ribbon Bakery across the street. Its next to the Seafood City along with a Jollibee: I had to return! Most people don't realize that Red Ribbon also has a small menu of hot items like arroz caldo (chicken & rice soup) and palabok (a type of pancit [noodles] w/ shrimp sauce). Better yet, you can get a SMD (Sweet Meal Deal | $7.75): Arroz caldo or palabok w/ an empanada, piece of cake, and your choice of drink. YELP 100 CHALLENGE 2017 - PART 3: 8/100 Since I was gonna be around the area, Pops asked to pick up some pork empanadas. Walked in and was told by their cashier they only had beef available. Although that's my favoritest thing here, I didn't want to come home without the pork empanadas. It was no big deal, I told her I'd come back the next day and started walking toward the door. All was well until she apologized and added, "It's just our kitchen closes at 845pm." I stopped and stepped back, looked at my watch and told her, "But it's only 815pm. Maaga yata kayo ngayon." (Translation: I basically pointed out it's still early.) I swear, she had that, "Woops..." reaction, then looked over (who I'm assuming is) her supervisor and asked about this situation. Supervisor says, "It'll be about 15 minutes." I'm guessing they wanted to close earlier than their normal hours. Yes, I got irked by it. Irked enough to refuse adding beef empanadas to the purchase. Paid for it and stepped out because it is just FREEZING in there. Took a little stroll at the grocery store next door (which is by far a lot warmer than it is up in here!) Came back a little over 15 minutes later, picked up the grub and bounced. Seriously, I speak for a lot of people when I say it's annoying when places close much earlier than posted. I love red ribbon bakery! I've been coming here for years for the chicken empanadas! Honestly, they are a 10/10. They always run out towards the end of the day, so make sure to come there early! Out of all the mamon that they sell, I would recommend the mocha mamon and the butter mamon. The ube is okay, but those two are my favorites. As for cake, I like ordering the classic ube cake or the mango supreme cake. They have really good other flavors too, but those are my favorites especially if you are craving something sweet. The bakery has a good amount of open space so i'm able to social distance while waiting in line if there's not too many people inside. I tried their ube mamon for the first time and it was delicious but really sweet. The only downside was they said they ran out? Then the lady had to check again and "found" 3 left. Not sure if they bake more or replenish their stock during the day. If they don't, I would definitely recommend going in the morning in case someone buys all the ube mamons. The ube seems to be the most popular flavor. I saw they had other flavors as well so maybe I will try those next time. read more

Another place that reminded me of better days gone by. Any function involving my family would almost be guaranteed to have a cake from Red Ribbon. I don't believe I had a cake from them that I didn't like - even some of those plain cakes similar to those you can pick up anywhere weren't bad. it's probably because I have a sweet tooth but I like to think it's just because it's a Red Ribbon cake. If anyone doesn't see the huge decline in their mass produced cakes, then they must be blinded by brand loyalty. About 30 bucks for a flattened, maybe 2 inch thick cake now, that tastes like it was baked a couple days ago, is just not acceptable. Ever. I'd rather pay 50 bucks for a bigger 10" round, that's a delicious and excellent quality cake. Gave them another try recently, because I was craving coffee crunch cake. So I ordered one by the slice. Beats Goldilocks hands down when it comes to baked goods. My favorites are any of the chocolate cakes, butter mamon and cheesy ensaymada. If you ever need last minute pasalubong (gift or souvenir) Red Ribbon is open early 7am every day. Some of my friends prefer Goldilocks but they didn't open till 9am. Oops sorry, the early bird gets the worm or in this case my business. Their cakes are light, moist and delicious with just the right amount of sweetness. They have whole cakes and individually wrapped slices, easy for dividing and handing out to a crowd of relatives or friends. I pass by Red Ribbon Bakery when visiting the neighboring Seafood City supermarket but had not tried it till now so decided to fix that last weekend. I went late in the evening as getting parking here in the normal daytime hours on the weekend is next to impossible. This is a very small sized bakery but it has been done up well which makes it look much bigger. I grabbed a bucket and picked up a couple of Mamon's (sponge cakes) in butter and mocha flavor ($1.35 each). I asked if they had ube Mamon but it seems that they were out so I grabbed an Ube roll ($2.99) and also an Ensaimada ($1.65) without knowing what it actually was. I asked if they had a ube cake slice but they were out of that too. Total bill was $7.34 which was very reasonable considering what I picked up. I was able to pay with card without any hassles of minimums. Taste wise I was skeptical about the freshness of the Mamon's but was pleasantly surprised. The butter Mamon was lighter than a sponge cake but not as light as an angel cake and I liked it a lot. I didn't care too much for the mocha flavored Mamon. The ube roll was not light but felt distinctly doughy. The Ensaimada was a savory sponge cake topped with cheese. I felt this would best be eaten hot rather than in its pre-packaged form. I liked Red Ribbon enough to come back and try out some more of their cake slices but my preferred bakery in this area remains JJ Bakery or at least till 85 degrees opens :) read more

We came here for a good halo halo. It's summertime again and this could only mean that shaved ice desserts are a must. But i had to say,halo halo here remains unbeatable! Don't know why it has price difference. Looking for a birthday cake? They do have beautiful decorated cakes which are all about 20.00$. They sell cake slices by themselves for around 2.25. Over all, this place is good and I just love Filipino food. Service is pretty nice, the young lady working the front knows what she's doing and treats customers nicely.
