It's exactly what I love: sweet, savory, and spicy. Prices have gone up a bit since my last visit. My favorite Spicy Chicken Empanada is now $3.59. That said, the empanadas do feel a bit pricey for their size. Some flavors, like the pork and beef, are noticeably smaller in volume and weight, which is disappointing. It looked like she was focused on waiting for a customer and didn't check the online orders at all. I told her I might need to cancel because I'd be late for work if I waited another 20-30 minutes, but she insisted on not canceling. I can't say enough good things about this bakeshop! Every visit feels like a treat, not just because of the incredible pastries, but because of the overall experience. Friendly staff. They have a variety of butter mamon (my new fav are butter and mocha) and I like how they have a deal where you buy 6 and get 1 free. Extra yumminess. We've been going to red Ribbon Bakery for many years. This was my first time to the location on Barranca Pkwy. I drove 30 minutes bc I wanted to purchase something that I had tried and tested for my MIL's birthday. There was one lady there whose attitude was more like I was interrupting and bothering her, as I tried to decide on the size and flavor of the cake. I dismissed her unfriendly service attitude and went with the mocha roll. Unfortunately, it ended up being a big mistake. As we sat down for dessert, I was explaining to my inlaws how these Asian bakeries tend to have the lightest sponge cakes with such delicate and light cream frosting. This cake, however, was unlike any other Red Ribbon bakery cake that I had purchased in the past, and we've been going to the 90703 location for over 20 years. This cake was very dense and rubbery in texture, and there would have been no way to know because it's covered in the cream. SO disappointing and SO embarrassing. As a baker, you know when you've messed up. And then ice it and sell it to someone for a special occasion, .... I don't have words to express how not cool that is. I first saw this bakery in the Seafood Market but didn't really think to order anything until I recently received DashPass and wanted to use my $5 off promo. The arroz caldo sounded so good in the description. Everything I could ever like in a bowl! Chicken, rice, mushrooms, garlic, onions. I needed a minimum order of $12 to qualify for free delivery, so I went ahead and ordered the palabok and beef empanada as well. Total, without the promo, was around $17-18 (STEEP for what you get). Of the three, the empanada was probably the most ok. With the other two, I honestly was really unsure what I was eating. It didn't look or taste like real food. Just a disappointing experience overall. I also usually feel hungry multiple times of the day, but the food was so heavy that I had lost my appetite for the rest of the day haha. Parking: It's a big parking lot so you won't have a problem finding a spot but it does get busy (due to the market and Jollibee) so you may not be able to find a close spot during peak hours. Cakes: Their cakes are what I come to Red Robbin for. They're not too sweet and they have a great selection. The Mango Supreme is a crowd favorite and the Choco Mocha Crunch is fun with the honeycomb candy on top (which is super sweet as expected). My favorite would have to be the Mocha Roll because I love all things coffee-flavored (and again, it's not too sweet!). Empanadas: I find them delicious - especially heated up! I don't love breading/carbs but their dough is WORTH IT. Not sure if they still have the special but it used to be buy 6, get 1 free. Mamon: Their butter mamons are light and fluffy - I usually stick them in the fridge or eat them right away and have never had an issue with them going bad. They're nice to snack on but I personally never buy them - usually get them from my mother-in-law when she buys a pack. Brownies: If you want a rich, sweet chocolate brownie - you should try these! I finally had the chance to visit the Red Ribbon Bakeshop in Irvine! I had previously been to the one in Cerritos when I used to drive that way for work-related activities. The butter mamon is to die for. Their empanadas are great too. My husband and I were on a search for Huy Fong Chili Garlic sauce and were hitting dead ends left and right. We ducked into the Seafood City supermarket by Walmart to see if they had what we were searching for. They did not, but they did have a Red Ribbon and a Jollibee. My husband was getting a little cranky so I bought two chicken empanadas, one for each of us. We sat down in the little food court area and took some bites. I was in heaven. It's been a long time since I've had one of these babies and it was still good. Is it healthy? No. Does it work in a pinch if you're out and about? Yes. I also had an extra empanada ($2.49). You can order palabok or arroz caldo a la carte, or w/ an empanada and a dessert. The arroz caldo was full of chicken and hearty. Every Azn culture has a chicken and rice soup (juk, congee, et al), and each one evokes comfort food. Likewise, the empanada was warm and full of chicken. I prolly didn't need the extra empanada, but I am a pig. Not surprisingly, the service was friendly, warm and efficient. Red Ribbon she said. Say whay? It's a bakery down here somewhere inside Seafood City Supermarket. I had no idea what either was much less where we were (North Irvine-South Tustin apparently). After my car's map directions almost got us lost we parked out front. Walking in was really interesting. Some would say there's too much negative space in the front but considering at least three food establishments cohabitated with the grocery store tailored to the Filipino demographic, the layout was decorative. The bakery lay just past the fried chicken place and a few paces away from the checkout lanes. The case was mostly full despite being around 8pm, and everything looked delicious. The objective of the mission was to obtain one coffee butter roll for $12.99. The nearby tables were the perfect spot to sample the wares before the drive home. To say that I was impressed is an understatement! Next morning I devoured a nice chunk solo (sorry babe) and we finished it off within two days so it wouldn't dry out. I was stoked to find out there was a Red Ribbon close to my work! We would get a 2 dozen of the chicken and beef empanadas dropped off by a vendor at my old job and we'd all chow down on them. My favorite is the chicken empanada by far. This Red Ribbon is located inside the supermarket but it's right up front to the left (hope that makes sense). I ordered 2 to go. The lady who helped us out was friendly. She wasn't outstanding but I wasn't there to dine in any ways. Besides I didn't see any tables... I've been coming to this location in Irvine for the Chicken Empanadas as they're the best! I would usually come here after 7pm and never I was told that the kitchen is already closed. Usually, the ladies who works here would ask me if I am willing to wait for 15-20 mins, which I didn't mind. I shop at the supermarket while the empanadas are being cooked. Today, I was here at 7:15pm and no more empanadas left. The guy at the front named Charles, who was very rude and badly lacks customer service skills, told me that per policy, they can't cook empanadas anymore as they strictly close the kitchen at 7pm for cleanup. I talked to the assigned manager, Paz Arceaga, who also confirmed this. I was surprised to hear about this kitchen closure at 7pm as in the years I've been coming to this location, I always come after 7pm and still get the ladies who works here cook the empanadas for me. I respect this policy but I hope it will be amended. The store closes at 8pm, so customers expect that the kitchen must be available until closing time or at the latest, half hour before store closes. The main issue in this negative review is not the policy mentioned above. It is the bad manner and unacceptable behavior of this guy named Charles, who works at the front. He was very provoking in his approach and he argued with me about this policy of closing the kitchen at 7pm. His behavior is not appropriate for this kind of job. He could have just explained the policy in a nice way instead of acting rudely. I asked for his full name and he refused to give me his last name because of his privacy concerns and instead, he told me that he doesn't care if I report him to the upper management, which I will certainly do. He also gave me a dirty look. Very arrogant and disrespectful to customers! Did I get an apology from him or his manager? No, not at all! I don't think they were trained properly in customer service. I will never forget this experience and I'm hoping not to see this guy again in this location. I seriously plan to speak with the corporate office about this incident. UPDATE: 4/5/2023 Per Customer Care's request, I have reached out to the website provided to submit my complaint and that was 24 days ago as of this write up. Until now, no one from their company nor management has reached out to me regarding my concerns. Indeed, Red Ribbon's management including their staff doesn't value their customers. You will find this gem located inside of Seafood City. Being a true Filipino you have to know about Red Ribbon. There are not too many Filipino bakeries around so I am pretty stoked this is just miles away from my house. Some of my favorites include: Chicken empanadas Cheese ensaimada Sansrival cake (butter cake) yummy!!! Mango cake Ube Rolls Pretty much everything. I love this cake because because it reminds me of my childhood. Cakes in East Asia tend to be less sweet and a lot spongier and fluffier. The mango on the cake tastes a bit different from the Manila Mango I'm used to though. Perhaps the Mexican Ataulfo was used instead? Red Ribbon is a bakery chain based in the Philippines. Back in the 80's/90's, they were the happening choice, and along with their rival Goldilocks, dominated in that category. But these days, the world has gotten globalized, so there is plenty of competition out there, especially with many Asian and European bakeries equal, or even better, than good ol' RR. Needless to say, one thing they do have that many others don't is their ube (purple yam) cake. Despite the plethora of cakes my kids and I have had, their almost favorite is this darn ube cake. Me, not really. I love the ube flavor, but this last cake we had seemed a bit dry and the frosting/icing had a weird taste that the best description I can give is it tasted "fake", if that even qualifies.. Maybe the cake I had just wasn't as fresh or they are using more artificial flavors, idk. That doesn't mean I'm not coming back, because RR is still a crowd choice for family get-togethers, including this Thursday's Thanksgiving. Overall - 4 stars. I've had almost all the cake flavors, the mamons are awesome, pan de sal is alright, empanadas are really good, and even their menu items like palabok/arroz caldo are also good for a bakery place. read more

I've tried other joints upon others' recommendation and in the end, I keep going back to Red Ribbon.
