So from my last review they sent out a bad pizza (freezer burn tasting pizza dough) right after I had complimented them for improving. :( I took a 2 year break from Red Tomato because of the pizza. I figured since they were still in business things must be better. Sadly no. After ordering about 7 pizza's this time around I'm done again. They are good about offering discounts/ credits for their mistakes, but seriously something being wrong almost every time due to poor execution or mindless mistakes is just crazy. This last time is the deal breaker. I had a 20% discount due to the mistake they made on my last order. I planned to feed more people so I ordered an extra large pepperoni pizza with extra pepperoni and extra cheese. In my mind this pizza was going to be a hot, cheesy, gooey masterpiece. IT WAS NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They corrected their last mistake with another mistake by sending me a burned pizza. AN EXTRA LARGE, EXTRA CHEESE, EXTRA PEPPERONI BURNT PIZZA! Vegan AND gluten-free pizza...my heaven! The first time I came, the vegan pizza (I don't remember which one I ordered) was sparse and looked quite bare, so when I came around this time, I was hoping for more....which I got! I ordered a vegan and gluten free Farmer's Market pizza with tomato sauce instead of the ranch sauce (which isn't vegan). I like that the menu is limited, because I'm a very very indecisive person, so the limited veggie options made it a ton easier. The pizza came with Daiya cheese which was melted and stretchy to perfection and the gluten free crust was from a local bakery. I thought the crust was quite good and would not have noticed that it was gluten free if I did not specify a gluten free crust. It was thin, but chewy and crispy simultaneously. The Farmer's Market pizza itself was pretty good - I still wish there were more toppings on it. It's supposed to come with eggplant, roasted garlic, tomatoes, artichoke hearts, spinach and some other good stuff, but I hardly noticed the eggplant. Besides the lack of toppings, I highly recommend Red Tomato - great atmosphere, friendly people, and overall yummy pizza! read more

I'm from the east coast and this is some pretty lame pizza. First of all, my boyfriends beer was skunked..badly. we got the garlic cheese twists which weren't bad but the pizza could have been cooked longer and the chicken was strange and not fresh. This was my first time eating at this restaurant. It was amazing. We called our order in and the person who took our order was very pleasant, detailed and patient. Sometimes when you call an order into an establishment they are in so much of a hurry they usually get something wrong. Not this restaurant. I ordered a personal size pizza and garlic twist. The garlic twist were so delicious I wish I had ordered the larger order. I started eating them before my pizza and ending up eating them all up. My pizza was loaded with toppings, the crust was very tender. I added a few extra toppings on my personal pizza and was very pleased. The customer service was excellent. The owner came out several times to update us on our order. There was a slight delay with our order and the owner was very apoligetic. I hardly noticed that there was a delay. There was a mixup somewhere between our order and the GrubHub delivery resulting in is getting someone else's order so I called the restaurant to let them know and see whether the orders could be located and swapped. The manager replaced the order and when I arrived, gave me both the replacement pizzas and the since-located originals. Very accommodating and friendly, and on a Friday night in spring 2020, that is especially appreciated. Specific to the pizza, I appreciate that they have vegan options. A couple of days ago my husband and I ordered a medium stuffed crust chicken, garlic, and artichoke pizza. It was phenomenal. We also had garlic fries and the best lemon cake ever. Whenever I need my pizza fix, this is the place to go. The service is out of this world and I leave feeling like part of the family. I called in around 9:00 pm last thursday. I saw this picture of their vegan stuffed crust pizza on vegansaurus so I wanted to try it. It was AMAZEBALLS! I did order it with pepperoni (not vegan but they offer tofurky and other substitutes for you vegetarians/vegans out there!) and jalapenos! They also have gluten free pizza that I want to try next! Only ever order take out form Red Tomato, but i've been doing so for years now. The hawaiian pizza is really tasty, love the addition of green onions on it. We ended up in Berkeley on Labor Day, with a craving for pizza. We called a few of the places I've been wanting to try, but they were all closed. We decided to walk around Goodwill before going home, and as we headed back to our car, I saw the "open" sign for Red Tomato. Pizza! Kudos for being open on a holiday! I checked out the pizzas on other tables as we walked in and they looked great. Thin, crispy crusts, fresh toppings, lots of smiles. Unfortunately, we learned they don't sell pizza-by-the-slice so we walked out pouting slightly. We reached the car before turning around, realizing that this wasn't a good day to be picky. We ordered a medium to share: half veggie for me and half pepperoni for Mr. Amy S. It arrived not long after, and unfortunately was on a thick crust. I guess we should have asked about crust, rather than just assuming they only had one, thin type. It wasn't bad though. The black olives and mushrooms on my half were sliced thick and were plentiful. ($16 for pizza and soda) I also ordered a garden salad (just under $4) - it had some awesome cherry tomatoes in it, but unfortunately the dressing was the type in a packet, rather than fresh made, and they had no oil/vinegar available. Great customer service, they take custom orders, pizza not fully cooked, but quality toppings. Fast delivery means it comes hot. Smart and polite driver called to verify address, remembered fork, napkins, plates, peppers and parm, and it tastes good after a little oven time. Definitely a place to try and get a quick bite. The lunch special is a pretty good deal for 7.50. We tried the meat lovers and the spicy dilemma. The sauce on both pizzas were pretty awesome. BIG HUGE PRO: - they have your information in the computer so you don't have to give your address a bazillion times over the phone like an idiot. They even have what you ordered in there, so if you're a creature of habit you can just get your last order without repeating the whole thing. Other Pros: - they don't skimp on the toppings. - they have no trouble finding my house (unlike the Chinese food delivery guy.. it's on the corner, dude!) - potato skins!!!! I usually don't like potato skins... they tend to get kind of tough and overwhelmed with bacon, but theirs are perfect. Much more subtle flavor, good texture, and still tastes like a freakin' potato! Tried this place for the first time tonight. It's been around for years and made it through the pandemic. The employee was super nice. However, the food was seriously disappointing. The salad was mediocre. Hardly had any dressing. The croutons weren't crunchy but rather chewy like day old bread. The pizza tasted like an ok frozen pizza. Almost $50 for a mediocre salad and a pizza that tasted like it had been selected from the frozen section. Very unlikely to return. There are much better pizza places in Berkeley. That and a Digiorno pizza is better and less expensive. read more

Been ordering here for years. They make good vegan pies and the only place that does stuffed crust. Grub hub screwed up and never picked up my order (why do I keep using them) so I ordered on their website. Called them to let them know and they told me they had noticed it, immediately made my fresh order when I put it on their website and sent it out for delivery minutes later. Best part is that they are donating my old order (refunded by grub hub) to the homeless - they are on university and a lot of homeless are in the area. I have to say this place is not bad. I've never actually dined in so I can't tell you anything about the restaurant itself. Next to cheeseboard, this is one of my favorites for gluten free pizza. They also have vegan options, so it's a nice place to order take out when trying to feed many different types of people. The pizza has always been pretty good. I like that you can get different size gluten-free pizzas at reasonable prices. Sometimes the can take a while with the delivery. They will quote a time of lets say 45min and not get there until an hour or more later. Overall though, its been a nice, tasty and fresh pizza experience. read more
