Ah, Redamak's. I've been coming here since I was a toddler, and I don't think it's changed at all since. Sometimes, that's a good thing. I came here with my dad as we did a border-run to Michigan most recently, and it was a nice burst of nostalgia. My dad got a double velveeta cheeseburger with fries ($6.75). He said it was just as good as he remembered. I got a buffalo bacon burger with cheese that they had on special, and it was delicious. I also got an order of fried pickles, which were delicious as always ($5.50). Redamak's is a greasy spoon that does one thing really, really well, and that is their burgers. Everything else you can expect to be fried and not house made most of the time. If you don't mind that (and I usually don't- it's still freaking good!), then this is right up your alley. They also have cheesecake milkshakes that are really good. The service was really bad last time I was here though. The waitress seemed to forget that we existed, and it took FOREVER for her to come back with a box, and then another 20 minute wait or so for us to get the bill. We visited Redamak's on a weekend- the "working man's specials" as mentioned by other reviewers are only available during the week. I felt that other reviewers that mentioned the small portion size of the fries is misleading- we asked for two orders of fries expecting small portions... but that was not the case. Neither of us were able to finish our fries and felt that they were certainly a reasonable portion for the money. We probably could have easily shared one order. We both tried the Velveeta cheeseburger and found it to be juicy and tasty. Well worth trying if you like a good cheeseburger. I was also confused by other reviewers comments about the food being overpriced- we both felt that prices were average if not somewhat under-priced based on similar meals in taverns in the Chicago area. The prices at Redamak's are not in the same league with the McD's "Dollar Menu" but by the same token, McD's isn't serving beer/cocktails. There is quite a bit of NHL memorabilia in the bar area (check photos) including a corner dedicated to the Chicago Blackhawks. Worth checking out by hockey fans. I think not only is the burger AMAZING but I love coming here in the summer waiting on a table with everyone coming here to eat from the beach. I have been here one time just to try it out and I have to say, the chicken sandwich I ordered was pretty good but the meat was dry and really hard to chew. The service was okay but the real problem lies with the atmosphere. Here are a few pointers: 1. The decor is an absolute mess. You have an old time section in one area and a sports bar theme in another area plus you have these two Greek god and goddess tablets in where the atrium area of the restaurant is. I really wanted to try this place. What a let down! The burgers are cooked well done so, dry! A burger (the size of a regular McDonald's hamburger) is $8.75 . Fries are $8.50 extra! I was told by lots of people to come to your restaurant for me and my wife's little trip to New Buffalo. The food took a ridiculously long time to get to our table, but it was super tasty and was worth the wait. For $20 I payed for two sandwiches and a basket of fries which is an amazing price you'll never find anywhere else. However one big problem I had was that you don't accept cards. It really upset me that I had to go to an ATM and get charged a fee just to pay for my bill. It only lets you pull out 20s so I had to pull out $40 +fee for my $20 meal. If the waitress wasn't nice I wouldn't have tipped. Please be more respectful to your customers and invest in a credit card machine. If you had one my review would be 5 stars. read more

It saddens me that not every customer rates Redamak's 5 stars! Maybe the nostalgia of coming here as a child taints my bias, but I really do love this place and so does the rest of my family. It's extremely important to note beforehand that 1. They only accept cash and 2. You should expect to wait to be seated. With that being said, we've never had to wait terribly long unless you go on a popular summer night when the tourists are in town. I really don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. From the kids meals, to the burgers, salads, the milkshakes, everything is delicious. The restaurants overall vibe is also very casual which is nice and cozy. Prices are beyond fair, the food is great, as is the service!! So, she had the BLT/fries and I had the 2/3 pound Velveeta double cheeseburger. Now, now...before you say "ewww...Velveeta!!", just know it's a good marriage. The burger was delicious (though I thought a touch more salt and it would have been perfect), and though the fries weren't that great (standard crinkle-cut) they were hot & fresh. Also, the cream soda was awesome!! Now...look at the pic I have here...you KNOW I was on a destroy-a-burger mission!! Last, the service was AWESOME!!! When we got there, the hosts were very friendly, and our server, Beth, was GREAT!!! Beth, thank you...when we come back we're asking for you first!! First time and not our last time. Our server was prompt and took care of us. They were conscious of social distancing and all employees had masks on. I can see why locals, vacation home owners, and passers by come. It's got an old school feeling. We all had cheese burgers. They were juicy and not seasoned much so you really tasted quality meat. Stopped by for dinner on July 4 and it was super busy as expected. My young kids were hungry and James (the owner?) did us a favor by giving the kids an order of fries to snack on while we waited for a table. Once we were seated, James came by a few times to check on us and make sure all was well, and he even gave the kids a cheeseburger keychain with the restaurant's info on it which was a really fun prize for them. Maybe I should've got a burger since apparently that's what they are known for but the menus are confusing. Our waitress gave us the basic menu everyone gets and the prices for the burgers especially were pretty pricey, considering you have to order a side of fries separate. Every single thing you'd want on a burger you'd have to pay $1+ extra which adds up quick when the burger is already $8. I even asked if there was a way to get fries with my burger so I didn't have to spend $3.50+ for just a side of french fries as I didn't need that much. She said no. Come to find out at the end of the table there was a small "gourmet" burger menu that included fries in the price. (I will attach photo of menu) I felt she wasn't very knowledgeable since they do in fact have burgers that include fries. I had already ordered my food when I found that out. I opted for the Lake Perch dinner. The Lake Perch dinner was OK. I like my fried fish to have a crunchy texture and it tasted more soggy than anything. The tartar sauce that came with it was fresh. I'm not a fan of coleslaw so I wasn't too impressed with that. The fries were good, it's hard to mess up fries. Some people in my party ordered burgers and the side of fries, I will attach a photo but they really skimped out on the fries.. c'mon you pay $3.50 for them at least make it worth it! Let me start with the good. We had a group of six on a busy Saturday night and we only had to wait 15 minutes. The ambiance and atmosphere is fun and inviting. Our server, Holly, was a blast. She was friendly, efficient, made sure our orders were correct and even helped to get a yucky burger off our tab. If I could review just the service we got, I'd go five for sure. We also really enjoyed our appetizers. Cheese curds buttered fluffy and delicious and the mini tacos were bomb! But then, comes the entrees. Without exaggeration, these had to be among the worst burgers I've ever had, and that's including fast food. First of all, THEY ONLY SERVE THEIR BURGERS MEDIUM WELL!!! Anyone who's ever worked a grill before knows that that means overcooked and dry. When we asked if we could get them another way we were told that's the only way they make them there. My friend got the beef and his burger was so overcooked he didn't even eat it. I got the buffalo, which I swear was just a beef patty, and it was flavorless, stale and dry. If we hadn't have spent the whole day hiking through the nearby dunes I would've trashed it and walked out. Our wives each got cheeseburgers and get this - they are served wrapped!! Like you get them at McDonald's. And they looked in size and deliciousness exactly like a McDonalds plain cheeseburgers. I'm caught between three and four stars here. Being from out of town, it's very clear that there's a lot of history here. I completely understand -- I have a lot of nostalgia attached to restaurants in and around my hometown, too. I ordered a legendary cheeseburger, with a side of fries. I stuck with the Velveeta, since that was what they pride themselves on. The fries were unfortunately just crinkle fries from a bag, as far as I could tell. That's fine. The burger was okay -- not life-changing. I do wish I'd tried some of their "gourmet burgers" instead, which, considering they already come with fries, are not much more expensive than what I got. That might have been worth it, price-wise. (A regular cheeseburger with cheap fries and a diet Coke seems more than a bit steep at over $12.) The servers were very friendly and all smiles, and my drink was never empty, so that much was wonderful. And the atmosphere is exactly what I love in an American restaurant -- with knick-knacks on the wall, it reminded me of several restaurants along Route 66. Quintessential Americana. I am in town for a while, so I may come back and revise this after trying one of the gourmet burgers. read more

You might have seen this place advertised aggressively on the billboards on the highway, so I wouldn't blame you if you stopped here, it's a tourist trap for a restaurant. I saw it and bit the bullet anyways, stopping here last week. It's a CASH ONLY establishment, something I wasn't informed of until we were finished with our food so I had to eat the ATM charge from the machine they supplied. The food was decent for what it was priced, if you like greasy burgers this is where you want to be, I didn't mind it myself. I wasn't a fan of the packaging for the burger, when I first got it, it looked like they picked up at a McDonalds with the order taped on the wrapper. The fries were pretty well for wavy fries, but the service was pretty average. Our server was a much older woman who had difficulty reading ID's even with glasses on and had an attitude when it came time to pay. I hope I have a better experience next time. read more

Just pure meh. Was really looking forward to trying some burgers here. Did not live up to the hype. The Bison burger was good, hated the goat cheese on it and had to scrape it off but that's my fault for not ordering without. The establishment was kinda cool could tell it had some history. Service was decent nothing extraordinary, fries were nothing special your everyday frozen crinkle cut frys. My fiancé had the roast beef also good nothing crazy too many peppers. Also, it's 2017 how do you not take credit cards, I get it's an old place with history but plenty of people don't carry cash, it's just annoying to have to go to an ATM, that was slow and didn't work right actually. My friends from Indiana said this was a go to spot when we went to the beach in New Buffalo. We went within the first hour they opened and there were no lines. We were immediately sat. The place was a lot bigger than I thought it would be. There are plenty of choices to choose from the menu. I got a small Caesar salad, cheese fries, and a pulled pork sandwich with honey BBQ. First off, the portions are very generous in my opinion and it's worth your money, which is great. Our server was kind and made sure we were doing good a couple times.
