My boyfriend has been coming here for a long time so we had to stop on a recent trip up to Grand Haven. We went for it with a cheeseburger each and a friend food platter with onion rings, chicken tenders, jalapeño poppers, and deep fried tacos. Talk about a food coma. We ordered to go and sat outside on a blanket (so we would be judged). I must say, we never eat like that so it was a real treat. As many have said here, nostalgia plays a part in any review of Redamak's. Illinois natives, on their way to the lake, to pick apples, or to get Halloween pumpkins often stop here. It's fun. It's tasty. The drinks are good; the employees friendly. And there's an antique dealer next store that is worth a look. I have many good memories related to this place. But my recent visit irritated me, primarily due to the more recent pricing of some items. I don't mind paying for good food. Further, I expect that any restaurant should price their products to make a profit. However, I expect fair value. In other words, the portions should reflect the prices, which wasn't the case in more than one instance here. First, we ordered deep fried green beans. They were quite tasty, hot, crisp, and fresh, however, for 6 dollars I expect more than approximately 15 green beans. Second, I ordered the fish and chips as an entree. I got a basket of chips and three very small pieces of fish. Three. Small. Pieces. Eight bucks. Really? I could go to any VFW on any given Friday and get all you can eat Fish and Chips for the same price. Redamak's, we love you. Don't abuse our love. We know what products cost. This is a one year update. My double chili cheeseburger had almost no cheese. It had almost no chili. The burger patties had gristle. The onion rings I quit getting because their quality went down, now I got a $7.50 double cheeseburger plus $1.00 chili. TOTAL rip-off now. We planned a special trip to experience the legendary burgers at Redamak's. We've had several people over the years tell us how great it is. Unfortunately, what we didn't hear about was the following: 1. The Wait - when we checked in with the hostess, we were told 20-25 minutes for the two of us. Nearly 90 minutes later, our beeper went off letting us know our table was ready. I eagerly went up to the hostess to be seated only to find out we had to go to another section of the restaurant to wait in a line with another hostess which added another 5-10 minutes of dodging people trying to enter/exit the bathrooms (see below). Pure chaos! 2. The Bathrooms - Redamak's is a HUGE place, and has ample seating room and waiting areas, however, the bathrooms have have two stalls and one sink, and is right in the madness of the waiting area. 3. The Food - We were finally at our table! Our mouths were watering at this point, and we quickly ordered wings as an appetizer, and two cheeseburgers. We waited over 30 minutes for our wings, and when they finally came out, they were incorrect, and burnt nearly dry. Then our burgers came out in wrapped in paper with grease oozing from the edges, and also incorrect. We waited several minutes for our server to bring the proper condiments to complete our order, and were sorrowful disappointed at the quality and taste. The burgers reminded me of a greasier version of the whopper, and while they may be cut and ground in house, the lack of flavor and a soaked greasy bun was something we easily could've gotten at a drive-thru in 5 minutes as opposed to the two hours we waited in total. 4. The Service - Our server was pleasant, but very busy. She checked in when possible, but, seemed to have issues putting in our order or challenging the cook staff when our wings were burnt and burgers were dripping with grease. There was clearly no quality control or visual checks the staff performed in order to ensure a better experience for their customers. At the end, when our bill came, we were short-changed by $5.00, which was quickly corrected. 5. Temperature - Redamak's doesn't appear to have Air Conditioning! We went on July 24, 2016, which was about 90 degrees and very humid. When we got inside, we had a bunch of fans moving around the warm, stale air. Temps were likely in the mid-to-high 80's. 6. Cash Only - This is mind blowing to me. They do have an ATM in the waiting area, but, unless you belong to Horizon Bank, you will be charged a $3.50 transaction fee to get your cash if you came unprepared like us. My apologies for the length of this review. I've only written one other bad review and feel it's important to be thorough. In my opinion, Redamak's was likely once an establishment that considered quality and comfort a priority for its customers, however, it appears they've grown considerably and have been trying to play catch up ever since. A major overhaul is necessary in order to update their building, bathrooms, and flow. Training is needed for their entire staff as well to cut down on wait times and food quality issues. And C'Mon guys, get with the times and sign on for a credit/debit system. Think of what's convenient for your customers, not yourselves. Needless to say, we will not be returning anytime soon. read more

And what's with the crappy processed cheese on the cheese fries? And if I dropping $6 on a burger, give me some lettuce and tomato on it. And my biggest of all pet peeves, cash only!! And didn't really see any signs when I was walking in to warn me. This is my 3rd trip to Redamak's and boy have things changed. The place is clean and the hostess was nice. On a holiday weekend, we expected there to be a wait and 30min was about how long we waited, which was what the hostess estimated. Our server, Maggie, was a star. She was triple sat within 5min and had at least a 10-top, 6-top, and 2-top all plop down at the same time. My GF and I both have experience in high-volume restaurants, so we knew we had to put our order in the moment Maggie stopped by. We ordered 2 Ultimate burgers, an appetizer, and a side. The side and appetizer was average, but the burgers were beyond saving. The reason being is that they sat under a heat lamp for a very long time. Simply put, they dried out. What I don't understand is the reason why the bussers don't fill up water and soft drinks. Instead they just stand around until an entire table has left before they bus, which by the way means that Maggie bussed our appetizers and refilled our drinks. I also don't understand why the wait staff didn't help each out. On numerous occasions, the wait staff would just stand around and talk to each other when Maggie's food was ready to be served. Instead of helping each other out, they chatted, looked at their watches, and watched their tables eat. On a few occasions, we saw a server go back to the kitchen and come out with a single drink. Why not bring some other items out that were ready to be served? Maggie was seriously in the weeds, but there was no assistance from anyone. Long story short, we got our burgers about 60min after ordering and the whole ordeal from checking in with the hostess to paying the check lasted 90min, which is way too long for 4 items. It's sad that a legend has gone down hill so much. We won't be visiting anytime soon. read more

Food was Okay, service was awful! The restaurant has made a big business out serving hamburgers to a lot people. I don't mind waiting to be seated, but once you are seated you should have a server within 10 minutes and our server preceded in attending to other tables that were seated after us (over 15 mins later) . Waited over 25 minutes before we received a drink and over an hour for our food. We ordered a appetizer in which we questioned our server about after 30 minutes waiting and she told us she put it in with our food order because it was easier for her to bring everything at once. I had to explain what a appetizer means a appetizer, not at her convenience to serve it. First time my family and I came here. The wait was about 30min to get in and sit down. The place was full. I liked that it was a family friendly place, except for the lack of baby changing tables. The husband and I ordered burgers and sloppy waffle fries. The burgers were good, juicy, small but the patties were thick. They were served in paper baskets, nothing fancy. The sloppy waffle fries were waffle fries with sloppy joe meat sauce, cheese and served with sour cream. They were good, but I wouldn't want to eat them again. One of my kids had chicken nuggets with fries. The other one had mac and cheese with fries. DO NOT ORDER the mac and cheese. It was a microwaveable mac and cheese bowl with fries. Over all the burgers were good, the rest was average. The service was alright, don't know if we had to wait a long time for our food cause their was 7 of us or what, but it took awhile. The prices were good, about $5.25 for a burger and about $5.00 for the kids baskets. My family was a family of 5 and paid less then $40.00 with tip. I don't think I would ever want to go back, but it's better then a regular fast food burger place. Ooh, the cheeseburgers are so damn good. Redamak's is a legend for those who visit the tourist town of New Buffalo, MI. It's got its fair share of fried things and various sandwiches, but I'd be lying if I told you I knew what they were... I come here for the cheeseburgers and the cheeseburgers only. They are big, they are juicy and they have the best cheesy mess on them. Probably not for the folks who prefer an aged cheddar, but even they should give 'em a whirl. A fully-dressed cheeseburger includes only ketchup, a fat pickle and a nice, crisp slice of onion--a sure-fire way to stink up your breath, but for such delicious reasons, it hardly matters. I remember my first Redamak's cheeseburger fondly--the combination of textures with the sizzling beef, gooey cheese and cool, crisp pickle and onion... yum. Visiting Redamak's is a perfect way to end a long day at the beach--no need to dress up, just kick back in the screened-in patio and enjoy. After hearing that this place is so great, I decided to start off here for our area brewery tours for a great burger. Started with the jalapeño poppers which were good. I had the double velveeta burger and my girlfriend had the single velveeta burger. The burgers were very bland. Solid cash-only place. Although everyone claims it is the best burger they have ever had, someone with extensive research in the matter could easily argue that is simply a lie. Nonetheless, it is a solid burger. I think most people buy into the aura surrounding this place as it certainly my does demand attention. We've been coming to Union Pier for years, now. Every time we drove by Redamaks it seemed packed and a long wait. So finally this trip we thought we'd go early and catch a famous burger. First let me say the service was brutal, took almost 45 mins to get the smallest wings I've ever seen, forgot one of the apps and boring mozzarella sticks. Ok, so this is a burger place, right? And of course the Burger hound saw the billboards for this restaurant and insisted we go and sample the burgers and other delights promised. We ordered burgers, fries, onion rings, a shake and a coke. The best thing was the shake, and the hound was drinking that! The burgers were over cooked and extremely greasy, the fries were pretty standard, the onion rings were good. The shake was awesome, gotta give them that. Noise levels were beyond the normal human range, what with the shrieking kids in the dining room and parents to intent on visiting with one another than to control their little darlings. The dining room is set up like a summer camp dining hall, and that might attribute for the noise levels. All in all it was an ok experience for this type of restaurant, but I think there are way too many other better places than this to try! read more

Just the way I remembered. It is still one of the best burgers around. Decided to stop during a recent road trip. The menu is simple burgers, burgers, shakes and fries. The facility is large, but very 'homey'. They seat approx. 450 people. We got there around 1 PM on the 4th of July. No waiting, we were seated right away. Our waitress was attentive and nice. She provided prompt service. We ordered the classic burger with most of the fixings, mustard, ketchup, grilled onions and yes, Velveeta cheese. The burger comes to the table wrapped in wax paper and the fries are enough for 2 people. The basic burger is 1/4 lb, which is plenty. If you have a hearty appetite, you can order one of the gourmet burgers. Shakes are delicious!! We were also fortunate enough to have one of the owners, Jimmy stop by our table just to see how we were doing. He sat and talked to us for about 15 minutes talking about the business ended up in New Buffalo after spending years in Chicago. Very friendly. So the billboards I've seen back and forth from Chicago drew me in one Sunday around noon. At the to go counter, I order a burger, they ask cheese or no cheese. I say no cheese. They ask tomato and lettuce. I say yes. In the car, I open the burger which has some synthetic yellowish slop on it. The tomato and lettuce are separate, but the soggy flat bun is plastered to the burger. The cheese was American cheese, which any decent burger place would never sully their sandwiches with, and the burger was roundish, undercooked, although the beef itself seemed of decent quality. The fries are frozen foodservice crinkle cut fries! This is a legend? Maybe it's a legend because it was good once, but American cheese, undercooked burgers, soggy buns and crinkly cut fries?? Had lunch here by myself. Hamburger was good - only comes one way which is well done. Fries were the end of the bag, burned and uneditable. I asked the waitress if she would eat these.
