On the recommendation of a local locksmith, I contacted Reed Bros. Security on 3/9/22 regarding my security gate. I met with their field salesperson later the same day. I demonstrated the problem and was informed it's called "reach around". It's relatively common and easy to fix with a thing called a lock guard. Fine. "Even under $500 so I don't need to write a bid." When? "3/10 @ 8:00am-ish." Fine. Home sales confirms final price of $520. Fine. On 3/10 the installers arrive 10:30am. When they're finished in ± one hour later, I inspect the work. Installation looks pretty good. Not thrilled the installers ground through the mesh in two places. I perform the same demonstration as I did yesterday and find my reach around problem still exists. Installers and I talk. Installers and RBS office talk. RBS office and I talk. RBS's best idea is more spikes to make the fence taller for an additional $300. And the lock guard isn't for reach around, it's for "poke through" meaning sticking something through the mesh to gain access. Why would I pay you $520 for a thing RBS recommended that doesn't fix my problem when a $300 solution exists? "You need both". No, I don't need to spend $520.00 on a problem I don't have. Time is passing and from the conversation I know the installers are late to another job. I don't like other folks holding up my people either and I told RBS it was okay for them to go to their other job and we could finish this conversation later. "Thank you". Voicemail from RBI that evening. "We're not going to pursue a relationship with you". I phone the RBS office on 3/11 "Hello". I received your voicemail and... "Good". Click. I had a compromise in mind but oh well. I was misled by the field salesperson, my gate issue is unresolved, I have a thing on the gate I don't want, and damage to the gate. The last few times I have gone to Reed Brothers has been really disappointing. 2 days ago was it. I went to get 3 keyed alike padlocks, the one guy working the counter ignored me for 5 minutes while he shot the breeze about car engines with someone, nothing to do with locks.when he finally "helped" me, no, not in stock, and walked away. What a chump. I will say eventually another employee tried to help, but they did not have what I needed. Called Glenview Lock and Key, they were great and had just what I needed. He tried to OVERCHARGE US. So, we got locked out and had to call a locksmith to get us back in. Fine. I know that nighttime service usually costs more, but when we spoke with the guy, he quoted us a high price, then when he showed (and took all of 1 minute) to stick a hanger under the door and open the door, and then he tried to charge us a higher price. For what? And why? He personally quoted $125 on the phone, so why would he try to charge more in person? It's not like the job was difficult, he honestly just popped the door open with a hanger. He came to the residence, and it was well-known to him, close to his office, and safe. Trying to make a couple extra bucks in the middle of the night is dishonest and won't win my return business. read more

While Jack & I were on a cruise, our housemate John lost his keys. No identifying info. Then when we returned we found a note for found keys close by. We gave him the info. He left a message. I told him to meet whomever on neutral territory. This morning he informs me that the guy called. He told him to come to our house! Those were not our keys. I was afraid that it was a scam and he had our keys and may try to get in the house. Not a high probability but possible. So I went to the locksmith in Alameda that I had seen in the past. Very nice fellow. But he told me their license was inactive. I asked for a recommendation. The only one he could give me was Reed's. I called expecting a two week wait. After partying a little bit too hard one night, I lost my entire keychain, which meant I lost the keys to my car and apartment. The keychain didn't turn up, but luckily, I was able to get copies of all missing keys from various sources to make copies. And make copies of key copies I did, at Reed Brothers Security. They were open bright and early, and handed me two additional batches (I pride myself in being prepared) within minutes. I even got to work super early that day. Score! I had the pleasure of working with Reed Brothers Security and Henri (T49) to rekey internal locks, replace the lever doors, and replace the deadbolts on my office building doors. I cannot say enough positive things about my experience working with Reed Brothers. From start to finish, locksmith Henri exemplified professionalism, courtesy and skill. Henri took the time to listen attentively to my situation and assess the situation before proposing a solution. His recommended hardware worked out fantastic. I love the locks and levers. I gave Henri a difficult assignment (to rekey over 17 locks & 4 new deadbolts) and was amazed how quickly he completed the job. What stood out was his expertise and friendly people skills. Throughout the process, he kept me informed every step of the way. I thought the job would take all day, but Henri completed everything in just a few hours. The pricing was fair and reasonable. Overall: friendly and professional staff, responded quickly. Highly recommend! I first called their after hour's number to start the price checking process. Unfortunately, the woman on the other end wasn't able to give me prices. She explained that the information I wanted was not available after hours. Yes, I was a little annoyed and frustrated, but if the information isn't available then it isn't available. She apologized and advised that I call back first thing tomorrow. So I did. I actually had to call back twice -- their Saturday hours start at 8:30AM and when I called at exactly 8:30AM, their phone line hadn't been switched over from the after hour's line to the main line. 5 minutes later, I'm speaking to dispatch. This woman is all about business! She quickly gathered my information, I tried to answer her questions as best as I could and within 10 minutes, someone was at my door, ready to re-key my lock. This blew my mind! I was prepared to wait at least 30 minutes. The Locksmith, Dan, called when he arrived, assessed the lock, went right to work and talked about his motorcycle passion and security in general. It turns out, they were super packed that day but made a quick detour to get my situation handled. I do believed and appreciate that. I also learned that locksmiths do much more than re-key locks and open doors. Dan also explained the different levels of security based on the lock you have and made sure the keys worked before he left. The best part for me, other than getting this taken care of, was that he didn't leave ANY mess for me to clean up afterwards. And I was prepared to have to sweep / mop up after he left. I highly recommend these folks. Even though the process wasn't magical unicorns from the first phone call (is it ever??), the relevant information was given in a clear, professional way and the locksmith was highly skilled. On Friday night at 11 pm, I was heading out to my bf's apt. The deadbolt locked, but the key kept turning, making 360 degree rotations. My apt was locked but i couldn't unlock the dead bolt. So I called Reed Brothers Security's 24/7 hotline - a representative picked up immediately and transferred me to the on call locksmith. The on call locksmith was the man, Randy Reed himself! The men working at Reed Brothers Security were extremely friendly and helpful. We had tried to copy this set of keys several times at other places and they never worked. Reed Brothers made the copies in minutes and they all worked perfectly. It cost about $15 for 6 keys. If you are in a hurry I would recommend avoiding lunch hour. They only had one person who could run the cashier, but he was making keys as well so the queue to check out backed up just a little. read more

OMG, the customer service at this place is beyond horrible. I've been trying to get a couple of security doors ordered and installed for 6 weeks now. I went in in person and called repeatedly before someone was scheduled to come out and measure and discuss options. Had to wait another week for a quote, with no detailed breakdown. After requesting one, I was told they'd have to charge me by the hour to provide that. The manager was rude. Can't even. Moving on to another company. Your response shows your lack of concern for your customers, truly an awful experience. How about the way the manager talked to me? You're more concerned about yelp reviews where I got an immediate response than your customer service that ignored me for weeks. What a waste of time and energy. read more

I have had only very positive experiences at this locksmith. The ppl who work here know what they're doing. They are straight-forward and no-nonsense about what they do. The staff is a serious rough-and-tumble assortment of characters who aren't exactly into sweet-talking a wayward customer. Sorry, they do locks and security, and don't beat around the bush while they're at it. The business they're in is a serious business. Once you recognize that you'll be fine, and then they might be able to assist you. The folks at Reed Bros are protecting the law-abiding from the law-breaking part of society. I visit their establishment for a variety of security issues: Locks, vehicle security issues, vehicle door locks, making P-E-R-F-E-C-T fitting keys, residence front door security hardware, you name it and they are probably experts in it. They have been the trusted go-to lock & security business for me and my employers for over 20 years. They have never dropped the ball on any issue that I have come to them with. Never. Popped by this shop while walking around in Oakland. Needed to get keys made for our new house :) They have really great customer service. We were tended to immediately, and the man who made the keys was really patient while i stood there and debated over which print i should get on my keys. He even went as far as to asking me what my favorite disney movies were, and if i wanted a matching set, etc. I ended up with Pooh bear on one key, and Eeyore on the other. Sooooo cute! Printed well, very good price, and fast service. My only complaint is that one of my keys doesn't work very well. The other key works perfectly--slides in and out like a charm. My front door key seemed to be missing a ridge, and it often gets stuck in the lower handle. I have to wiggle/jiggle it a very specific way before it opens. My old key didn't do that, and if I look closely, the keys aren't EXACTLY the same. So, kind of a bummer. But otherwise, a decent place to visit for your lock and key needs :) read more

He first reassured me that (even tho I'm 78 years old) I am among the hoards of people who do the same thing and that it is not a sign that I'm falling apart. He quickly opened my door and then we began to talk. And we talked. Such an interesting man. Doing what he enjoys, going out on house calls, meeting people. As he headed for his car, he looked back and said, "Thanks for locking yourself out". A crackie entered our house on the night before Christmas Eve while my husband, newborn, and I were upstairs asleep. After a terribly frightening encounter and realizing the keys near the door were gone- we needed the door rekeyed. Pronto. Except in the wee hours of Christmas Eve morning, it becomes apparent that many of these "24hr locksmith" places are not also "365". Reed Brothers to the rescue! There is a new policy in 2018. They won't tell you (on phone they can't even tell). However I investigated and as of this year they require a signature for delivering. When you order they don't say anything about requiring a signature. It's a new liability rule so they aren't responsible. I was preparing to hire them and started with an online order that never arrived. Reed brothers took no responsibility to help me, once the order is placed the Director of Marketing told me it's not their responsibility if it makes it to you or not. You must track it to the 3rd party location. It's out of their hands. Unless you are at home all day, or have plenty of time to call UPS and drive to other locations, skip on line orders in 2018.
