Called them in an emergency after reading reviews here, so feel like it's best to post here and warn people not to make the same mistake we did. We woke up Thanksgiving morning with a wet floor and warped floorboards. We had no idea where the leak was coming from, and knew we needed someone to take a look ASAP. I called Reliant the next morning who said they could come out that day (Friday). They pushed back our appointment twice, but did end up coming out Saturday afternoon. After the technician, Timothy, arrived, he immediately charged us their large holiday call fee, which we were told about in advance and were okay with because we were assured a thorough diagnosis. The problem was- he didn't actually examine anything in our house. No fixtures, no water heaters, nothing. Didn't step foot inside a bathroom. I know sometimes people exaggerate on these reviews, but I promise you folks: he actually looked at nothing, did no examination of any sort of any of our plumbing equipment. Baffling, He sort of looked at the floor, told us it was a slab leak, gave us a quote for 11k (their "standard flat rate to find the source and repair a slab leak"), and left. All within 15 minutes. Spoiler alert: Timothy completely misdiagnosed our issue. Our regular plumber was able to make it out Monday, and after doing a thorough examination, found the source of the leak (our hot water heater). He fixed it the next day for under 500 dollars. Side note: their management has said they'll refund us the service fee, but doesn't seem in a hurry to actually submit a refund. TLDR: Reliant misdiagnosed our issue in a bafflingly bad house call where their technician didn't actually look at anything in the house. Had we gone with Reliant, we'd have overpaid by over $10,000 to repair our issue. That's crazy to think about. read more

I applied for their zero interest loan and now they've gotten their money and I am terrified that they will not finish their work. The mound of dirt is piled in my driveway. I am only asking for simple honest communication. Their secretary says that the office is not open to the public. Wow! She says she cannot forward a phone call to the person that handles their permits. Caution tape blocks the side walk on our busy pedestrian walkway where my sewer lateral reaches the City's pipe. One of our neighbors fell as they tried to make it into the road from the sidewalk. The City of Austin is responsible and those settlements and they are in the millions that we, tax payers, have to pay. I selected Reliant for a major plumbing project (replumbing the house with pex piping) and I regret the decision. The TLDL review is that they will say anything to get you to sign and after the contract is executed they will say anything to defend their sup-par work. They do not sell or negotiate in good faith. If you do choose them here's some quick advice: When negotiating with them (and you will have to negotiate every aspect of the work (quality, materials, etc) , even after you've agreed upon a price) just know that they will take every short-cut possible and incur maximum damage to your home to which they will take no responsibility. Read your service agreement with them carefully before you sign. Whatever you do, do not sign with them on the spot. After work begins, they will make major decisions without consulting you that will cost thousands of dollars to to repair. In short, what they deliver will be very different than what they sell. In particular, note that they will send out very inexperienced plumbers to do work they are not qualified to do. It's up to you to review the work and make sure that it's done up to standards. read more

RUN RUN RUN (0 Start) - Price Gouging and Unreliable Gas leak issue. The city turned off my gas. Got an astronomical quote from the company. Decided to go for part of the job so at least could have my gas turned back on (no hot water, no heater, no working stove, no dryer). Paid for half of the job right away. They stood me up twice for the technician to show up. Was told the supervisor was going to call for confirmation and discuss things further. Not sure what it is that they want to discuss. Two days later, no hot water, no working stove, no dryer, and no working HVAC (heater). I will be reporting then to BBB (F rating) and the Bureau of Consumer Protection. read more

This company blatantly tries to overcharge. Yesterday a plumber from their company wanted to charge me $3550 plus tax for a job to replace an easily accessible water pressure tank and then tried to upsell me a new type of system for $4,200 before tax that didn't interest me at all. (That's a whole other story) When I looked up the price of the part it was around $400. I thought his price was ridiculous and told him so and then he tried to tell me the going rate for plumbers was around $1,000/hour, which also seemed ridiculous. Today I had the job completed in about a half hour with a tank about 150% larger for a price of $1,600. read more

6 months after they "Fixed" my issue it happened again. $9,000 later they "Fixed" it again. But once again my bathroom is flooded. And they are charging us $150 to evaluate why we are having the same issue we had the last two times. UPDATE: After paying them to fix the issue causing my drain to clog, I'm now being charged $850 to unclog it again. I've never lived somewhere that I've needed to have the drain unclogged every 6 months. Clearly when I paid them $9000 in November they didn't fix the real issue. It appears they do shoddy work and expect to keep charging to fix the same thing. I previously confirmed I wouldn't be charged for this work, then after it was done they hit me with $850. I wish I could leave 0 stars. The past 6 months have been a complete disaster as I've dealt with a leak Reliant has NOT solved and continued to send different people with zero context every time, checking for the same things, asking the same questions, and coming unprepared for how to solve for problem at hand. I'm ashamed there is an Austin business this terrible with equally bad customer service. I have to say a couple of the guys that came did try their best with the information they had. This message is for the owner/ manager who by now should've reached out given my constant complaints. They cut through the drywall behind my oven and left a mess, never clean up after they leave, and there is little to no communication on when they're showing up. They even had one person show up for a two man job so I volunteered to step in and take video while he tested the neighbors faucet. We then had to wait an hour and a half for someone else to come to climb the ladder and take more video of the ceiling. James who was just here has been one of the most helpful. Unfortunately I'm stuck with them as my leak is being handled by my HOA, otherwise I would've gone with Radiant as they seem way more prepared to handle something like this. read more

Reliant Plumbing= SCAM. If I could give negative stars I would. We have been trying to get a call back for over a week now. Here is what happened: We had a gurgling toilet downstairs so we called them and they said we had tree roots that had broken a pipe (this is the second time they have told us this by the way- to the tune of thousands of dollars last time, ~2 years ago). I'm not saying we didn't - but I will say both times it's been a catastrophic diagnosis. Coincidental? Not sure. In any case, we starting talking price. This is when it turned into a used car negotiation. They quoted us $10.2K - we said we would get a second opinion and suddenly, the price dropped to $9K IF we didn't get a second opinion and if we agreed to it right then. They also tried to find out who we were calling -- the supervisor told us he had worked at Abacus and Radiant... classic used car tactics - talk smack about competition. We asked for a couple of hours to discuss it and the "supervisor" had to go outside and call the owner who ultimately told us no, the deal was now or never. So, with Christmas 5 days away, we agreed, as they said their contractors could work over the weekend. Once we signed, suddenly they could not get the same workers because we had negotiated a lower price so they would not start until Monday Dec 23. Now, this is what we have been looking at since then. They said they ran into a lot of rock and suddenly it would be $15K. We said that is not what we agreed to and we needed to talk to the supervisor. We have tried to call 5+ times over the past 1.5 weeks and NO phone call back, radio silence. The receptionist even said, "yes we have logged several calls from you, I will make sure you get a call back"- and still so far, we are stonewalled. So now we have a gaping hole 3' deep under our foundation on the coldest day of the year with exposed pipe and a dead yard. Reliant Plumbing is closer to a used car scam than a legitimate plumber. I can tell you what, we will NEVER use them again and I encourage every neighbor in Steiner Ranch and Austin to reconsider giving them your business. They totally overcharged us. We had an inspection done for the selling/closing of our home. There was a problem with the water heater. Plumber claimed it could possibly leak a lot if certain conditions happened (which were very unlikely). The plumber quoted $1484 for what we assumed would be a major fix. Come to find out the part was about $100 and it took all of 30 minutes of the plumbers time. Have since tried to contact the owner. Receptionist claims he will call us back. Never happens. We called another plumber to ask how much it would cost to do the same work, and was told around $250. Do not hire this company. They are conducting fraud. Worst company ever. We should take them to court. They will definitely get a write up on the Better Business Bureau site. And of course they are not accredited by the Better Business Bureau. read more

Sewer line was backed up and toilet began leaking water into our bathroom floor. Sewage backing up in our bath and shower as well. All at 9:30 on a Monday night. Reliant to the rescue! They had a technician out to our home in less than 30 minutes - his name is Dominic, and he was extremely professional and pleasant. He cleaned out the main sewage line and also resealed out two downstairs toilets. He answered all my questions and was great at answering all my questions. Can't recommend him enough! read more

I had a leaking bathroom sink that seemed like a minor fix. I saw some good reviews for this company and my partner made us an appointment with same day service. The service fee was $89 and gets waived after you accept further work. Ray Baker arrived as our technician. I showed him where the sink was leaking from and he explained that he thought the installation of the sink was bad, which I didn't necessarily disagree with. During his diagnostic of the leak, he loosened another area of the sink. After his diagnosis, which only took one or two minutes, he went to another area of my house with my partner to provide her with a quote. I stayed upstairs to assess whether or not the sink had been put together in a way where it'd be usable while we got together the money for the quote Ray was about to provide. I noticed the part he'd loosened was leaking and it hadn't previously leaked, so I went and asked if he could tighten it before he left. Ray responded and said, "No." There was awkward silence and I politely asked again, but this time he agreed. I mentioned that I just wanted it tightened in good faith, so that the sink was somewhat usable while we got together the money to make the permanent fix. I didn't think this was an unreasonable ask, considering we'd paid the $89 service fee that's not refundable. Once he started tightening the pipe on the sink, I again mentioned that I just wanted it tightened in good faith, to which he replied that he'd just get money from the next job and didn't need our business. I didn't know how to respond, so I just didn't say anything. During my silence, I noticed Ray getting progressively more hostile and upset. Unprovoked, he mentioned several times that the sink was broken and tightening it wouldn't fix anything, that we needed to pay the money for the quote to fix it. What confused me about this interaction is that I never once said I wouldn't want the permanent fix, nor did I deny the quote. I won't be using this company again due to Ray Baker's behavior. read more

Completely Irresponsible! Reliant came out and installed a tankless water heater in our garage. They overcharged for the heater, and did give a small refund after I called them out. The water heater failed inspection by the city of Lakeway because there wasn't a water catch installed in case of a leak. It failed again when the installer cut the back of the tray off so he didn't have to install it around the plumbing. When this was relayed to the installer, he told us he had "gotten hot, and wasn't feeling good, so he did it that way to get it done." When he installed it, he also set the gas setting on natural gas, versus what we have- propane- which burns at a different temperature. That caused the heater to fail, and cause smoke damage to our house and nearly burnt the heater up. By the grace of God, our house didn't burn down. To resolve the issue, they cleaned and painted the exterior of our house and the inside of the heater, but refused to replace the heater in spite of what looked like extensive burn damage. Shortly after that, the heater quit working again. We had a different plumber come out this time, and they discovered that the unit was so damaged that it was leaking carbon monoxide into our garage. It was also improperly installed, with the ventilation pipes so close together that fresh air could not come in- just exhaust. Again, that was a huge problem. We received a bill from the new plumber in the amount of $2,500. Reliant did agree to the fact that they were responsible for the damage, and would refund the money. That was on February 19th. Since then, they have given us the run around and do not return phone calls. I went to their office on March 1st in person, and a man who said his name was Evan, the sales manager, said he would get resolution. He would not provide his last name and stated he didn't have a business card. I never heard from him. We have been diligent in seeking resolution, attempting to speak with them on a very frequent basis. They state on their website that they do quality work with 100% satisfaction guaranteed. DO NOT BELIEVE EITHER CLAIM! Do not risk having them install an item that should be easy for a qualified plumber. read more

Roman and Jacob were super professional, very kind, and explained the whole process. The whole job was more expensive than I thought it would be, but the quality definitely seems worth it. Outstanding plumbing company. We had them install our tankless hot water heater a few years ago and they did a great job! When we scheduled the city inspector to come by for permitting he said something to the effect of "Wow, these guys really know what they are doing". Stating that he usually has to recommend changes and it was uncommon to see a complicated install pass perfectly the first time. More recently, we had Dominic come out for winterizing our home. He was professional, courteous, and excellent at communicating! We appreciated his expertise and how thorough he was with everything. We will continue to use Reliant for all of our plumbing needs! read more

This Reliant Plumbing is horrible and will take advantage of you. I never write reviews, but this company has so fired up. We had a shower that wouldn't turn off because the cartridge needed to be replaced. They charged $450 to replace it and it took 10 minutes for the plumber to complete the job. The part costs $50 at Lowes and when I asked for a price break down on what the other $400 was for, they couldn't provide it too me. When quoted a $450 job, you assume that it would be labor intensive than a 10 minute task. We called a complain to the manager and it sounded like he received these phone calls all the time. He didn't care. They have no problem ripping off consumers. After this ordeal we did call around and asked for estimates from other companies. The price ranged from $150 to $250. I wish I could give them a minus star! I called Reliant Plumbing regarding a problem with our two heaters that were less than 2 years old. There was a rotten egg water smell coming from the faucets when the water heaters were not used for a few days. The representative that came out to check the problem advised that I needed to change the controls on each water heater because the builder used the cheapest type of controls. He also suggested that I go to a waterless heater. He never mentioned that there could be another problem...the anode rods in the water heater could be the problem. The quote to replace the Water heaters or purchase a waterless heater was between $6700-7000. dollars. The next day I called a different plumbing explaining my problem and even, the receptionist said, it sounds like the anode rods need to be replaced. AND, that was the problem. This is a fairly common problem with the rods. Even the manual to the water heaters talked about it and how to eliminate the smell. Why the representative of Reliant Plumbing did not mention this and seemed more focus on selling me new heaters is actually very disconcerting and it cost me $89.00 for the visit. If you call Reliant Plumbing, make sure you follow-up with a second Plumber to confirm what Reliant advises what needs to be done. read more

I was in a panic mode. The knob on the shower wouldn't turn the water off. I turned the main water line off but then needed to look for a plumber. I called three and all booked out til middle of May! That wasn't going to work. Called Reliant and Chelsea said they could get a plumber out in about 2-4 hr. This was on a day of a hail storm. Dominic got here assessed he didn't have the parts. He and Nick went to Home Depot got the parts in the hail storm. They were able to fix the shower handle and it works great again. No further stress for me. Now I have a plumbing company. Reliant Plumbing is not transparent about their pricing. When asked multiple times during the scheduling call, what their pricing is for an exterior tankless water heater flushing, the receptionist refused to respond and kept pushing a $89 fee if service is refused. When Jacob showed up, he quoted us $445 for the service when everywhere else the average is $150-$250. While deciding if we should move forward with the service, they went ahead and got started without approval pushing us into completing the service. I would not recommend this service as the pricing is shady and overpriced forcing you into paying their non transparent costs. Go elsewhere. read more

Monday morning I was trying to get a Saddle Valve to seal closed and was not having any luck. We needed to call a Plumber and we were successful in getting Reliant to come to the house in less than 2 hours, we were really happy with their responsivness. Ray came and was very nice and curtious. He replaced about 24" of 1 1/2" copper pipe and used two copper unions. The entire job took about 40 min. from start to finish. The cost, $649.50 OUCH!! We were told it was due to the increase in the cost of materials. I priced a 5' 1 1/2 L-type on Ferguson's Web site and it was listed for $77, as I said, they only needed about 2'. Even if I am genreous, and allow them $100 for the materials, $549 for 40 min. of labor, come on. I called the main office the same day and was told by Ava that she would call me back later in the day after she could speak to a different Manager. No call back. So, I tried again the next day, was told they would take my message and call me back. No call back. Very frustrating!! I do NOT recommend this company unless you have no other choice. read more

Jason Sawyer: Had him come out on Feb. 2nd to correct a problem that has been recurring since I had a water heater leak on Jan. 27th. He made the repair and that seemed to fix it. But, when I checked the timing this morning to hot water run time, it took 76 seconds to start getting warm water. I will start by saying this was one of the worst service experiences I have had with any business in any industry. Here's what happened: My toilet was suddenly not flushing well this week. After clearing a few separate clogs with a plunger, I decided there must be a blockage and called Reliant to check it out. They scheduled service the very next day and a tech arrived on time. After running a camera through the sink (not the toilet), the tech informed me that I have valleys in the pipes running under my foundation. He explained these valleys cause standing water that disrupt the proper functioning of the plumbing system, and concluded that this was the most likely root cause of my flushing issue. When I asked if he should also check the toilet before recommending that I let Reliant dig under my house to address the valleys, he briefly acknowledged that I could have him snake ($500) or pull the toilet ($1,200) before explaining that if I didn't address the valleys quickly, the problem would get worse and end up costing me much more. When I asked if he could run the camera through the toilet instead of the sink to determine if snaking or pulling the toilet was necessary, he said the camera could not negotiate the sharp turns inside the toilet drain. He also discouraged the snake option because "it's not guaranteed to clear a blockage if there is one." At this point, I decided I was going to either investigate the problem further myself or call another plumber for a second opinion. (My plumbing system has had absolutely no issues in the 6 years that I've lived here and it seemed like something more acute than sagging pipes was probably at play). The tech said that was certainly an option, but insisted he write up a formal estimate before leaving. I agreed, assuming he would quote the snake and toilet removal options. Instead, he provided me an estimate to correct the valleys in the pipes. THE QUOTE WAS FOR $73K! After he left, I pulled the toilet myself and found a pair of my son's eyeglasses lodged in the bottom. I bought a new wax ring from Home Depot ($10) and re-installed the toilet. It now works perfectly. Altogether, the repair cost me $10 and 2 hours of my time, including the trip to Home Depot. I'm certain Reliant could have done it in even less time. I don't doubt that I have valleys in my pipes. And at some point, I may need to address them. However, I think it's absurd that the tech would choose to focus entirely on a $73K solution without exhausting all other possibilities first. I would never trust this company to diagnose another plumbing issue and I strongly advise you to do the same. read more

The freeze had nothing to do with the delays on the project. It was supposed to be done before the freeze as a proactive measure. A couple of no shows delayed the project initially. It ended up taking approx 6 weeks to do the work, mainly because it was not done right the first time and did not pass inspection. The job was never completed. They left the water line exposed the last few feet to the house. I ended up finishing it myself. New new cut off valve is mostly buried under dirt. Brand new cut off valve. I will have to clean that up as well and the water line is exposed to open air at the connection in front of yard, which has me concerned with future freezes. read more

Can't recommend Mackenzy (Mack) White from Reliant enough. He gave a great time estimate for arrival, and arrived promptly. He gave an estimate for the work before he even started. Once he realized that we didn't have a gas powered heater as believed, he still checked our gas lines, but then didn't charge us anything because he was here for so little time. As a family getting licensed for foster care, we are SO appreciative that he checked our lines and didn't try to nickel and dime us or suggest unnecessary work. We will definitely call again next time we need plumbing service! The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 has nothing to do with Mack himself, but because the first day we had an appointment and they were unable to send a technician within that window so we had to reschedule for a different day. That required moving around our schedules so it was a little challenging. read more
