This place was ok until they forced me to tip 20%. They felt like my tip wasn't enough so they said they require 20%. Why don't you include that in your advertisement if it's required? I'm very unhappy about this practice of asking for tip and even going beyond that by asking for a specific amount. I will never come back purely because this is a horrible way of doing business. Seriously the best massage I've had since moving to the city. Made an appointment for the same day. At first I was nervous about requesting a male massage therapist, but Jay was highly recommend on Yelp so I decided to give it a try. SO. GLAD. I. DID. He was very professional and (best of all) was able to alleviate the pain from my troublesome knots--especially in my neck, shoulders and upper back. Another great massage here. This time I had a 90min body and foot massage...roughly 60min of deep tissue/oil/hot stone and 30min feet. Peter was my third excellent masseur here. This place is amazing. The staff is very nice and friendly and the place is super clean. Little downside is that there are no doors in the rooms, only curtains, which means you will hear other clients come and go, but it was not really disturbing to me. Okay, I don't write reviews on Yelp, but I'm compelled to right now because that was the best massage I've received in a long time. I've had at least 60 or 70 massages in my life. Often it's a few days after a sports injury. This was one of those cases. I explained what the injury was and where (from the driving range after a long winter). The woman who treated me was fantastic. Strong hands. And she never gave up. By the end of the hour I was completely out of pain, the knot was gone, and I was relaxed. As previous reviews have stated, this a no frills establishment and not what one would call a "spa". I have been a patron at high end places where I paid three or four times the amount than Renewing Spa, and the massage was not good. BEN WAS THE BEST, received a Groupon for my birthday and finally made the appointment. WOW i had no idea how much i needed a massage until i got in bed last night and woke up this morning feeling like i slept 13hours when on a typical night my sleep is interrupted every 2-3 hours to reposition. I awoke in the same spot i fell asleep in and that hasn't happened in years!!! Back to the spa and Ben, the rooms were clean and comfortable, the lighting was dim and relaxing.is nice and calming. The hour goes at a good pace. You almost feel like "wait, it can't be over yet" but it is and you feel better when you leave than before you arrived. No idea what he did to me but my body from my face to my feet never felt so relaxed. . I had an amount in mind that i would tip, by the time the massage was finished i couldn't fathom that amount and doubled it for the AWESOME service. This place is a wonderful business. I have been here twice and not been unhappy. Both of my masseuses were great and worked out my knots. I was really surprised that my 60 minute massage also came with a hot rock treatment. It's definitely no frills, though. Most rooms are separated with walls that don't quite reach to the ceiling so sometimes you can hear the receptionist taking calls or other patrons the next room over. Not a big deal. The most recent time I was there, I was so relaxed during a foot massage that I almost fell asleep. You get more than you pay for at this spot and there is value in their services. read more

I had a bad tension headache and found this place via Yelp. 90 minutes later, no headache. Jenny was the masseuse. Incredible strength and technique. The lady at the front desk even came in after 20 minutes to check if everything was OK and had offered that she would change the masseuse if I was not happy. Great, no frills massage place. Clean pleasant place with incredibly affordable prices. My wife and I have been to a number of massage places in NYC. This tops the charts as the best near our place in Chelsea, and probably in all of the city, for a few reasons: 1) Great prices and 2) Great massage therapists. My wife likes strong deep tissue massages and has had trouble at many other, even high-end, places because the therapists aren't strong enough. Here, they are all very strong and can do deep tissue massages. I like a more relaxing, semi-deep-tissue massage. Lily is great for that, she can vary up her technique and customize. One tip -- not all of the massage therapists speak English well, so tell them up front what you'd like. If you get Jay or Lily, they both speak well. read more

Not impressed with the massage. It was not bad but definitely not great. Most annoying thing that makes me not want to go back is that I specifically asked the masseuse beforehand to spent time on a part of my leg where I experience a lot of pain. She confirmed that she would. She spent 80 percent of the hour working on my back so I asked twice if she was going to have enough time for my leg and she said yes. Ends up spending max 30 seconds on the area I referred to because she was out of time. When I asked her to spend a few more minutes on it since I specifically asked for it beforehand she refused and said I hadn't specified how much time I wanted to her to spend on my leg. Are you kidding me? The leg was the whole reason I went to get this massage in the first place. Very disappointed. read more
