    Wild Garlic Pizza
    Dee B.

While I have lived in the Reno/Sparks area for 8 years the eateries and history of Reno and the downtown area were all new to me! Melissa, our guide, was filled with all sorts of history and facts for this area. While we walked, Melissa would point out different buildings and tell us of the history. While we ate, Melissa was giving us the history of the building and the owner/chef, etc. And just an FYI - GO HUNGRY! This may say a tasting tour but I am still stuffed and it has been close to four hours since I ate. We started at Wild Garlic Pizza. The slices of two different pizzas that we had were wonderful. We had slices for the Angry Pig and the Wild Garlic. While I liked the Wild Garlic pizza, the sauce was a bit overpowering for the awesome crust. Did I mention the crust? The crust alone is to die for. It has a bit of a sweet flavor to it. It is my understanding that you don't see the crust sitting sadly on a plate uneaten. I can see why! On a side note, there are many board games that are available for customers to play! Thank goodness we had a little of a walk to the next stop, Old Granite Street Eatery. Here we had a salad with arugula, lentils, carrots, beets, and avocado topped with a balsamic dressing. At the Old Granite Street Eatery, they do their best to use only locally-sourced produce. A great salad and all but the avocado was from our area! Off to SoDo Restaurant & Bar! Again, I am thrilled to walk so I can make a little more room for the next "tasting". At SoDo, we had the Hanger Steak. Very rarely have I seen Hanger Steak on the menu. A piece of advice, if you see it, got it! This cut of meat was fantastic. By now I am getting very full but the steak and poblano potato hash was too good to leave on my plate. The atmosphere here is quiet and casual. If SoDo's was opened on Sundays, I would be changing my reservations for my night out with my husband! Thankful the next stop on the tour is a bit of a walk! We are headed to Liberty Food & Wine Exchange. Here we are treated to a plate of charcuterie and salumi. Again, we have a local restaurant using locally sourced products! In fact, Liberty's meats are butchered and processed in the basement! On Fridays, I understand that Liberty brings in live entertainment! I also saw some board games available for the customers! Sounds like a way to spend an evening with friends! Off to The Basement and Rawbry in the old post office building in downtown. This is more than a juice bar, Rawbry is an addiction according to the employees. Here we have two very different juices to sample, one is THE FARMACIST and the other is PACK A MEAN PUNCH. While both juices were very tasty, I think my favorite is The Farmacist. With an 8 oz serving of that, I am sure I wouldn't need to eat any leafy greens the rest of the day! And once again, this eatery uses locally sourced and organic when possible! Oh no, we are coming to the end and dessert, but wait it is from Sugar Love Chocolates! And how I love my chocolate! Sugar Love is more of the European style chocolate. While the pieces of candy are smaller, please, don't be fooled as they have more flavor in them than many of the larger pieces of Sees Candy. A side note here, if a piece of candy is filled with say strawberries, this filling is made fresh from locally sourced strawberries. Yes, this means that some of the chocolates are seasonal. We had a sample of the Himalayan Pink Salted Caramel and Flavor of the month, White Chocolate Creme Brulee. I will not try to pick a favorite of these two! I will say this, I will be a regular customer because they have a website and they ship!

This midtown food tour was amazing way to try out a lot of local restaurants. The guide was well informed and all the stop were delicious. I wish I had the time to try the Downtown tour. Highly recommended doing this tour. You will not be disappointed.

This food tour was a blast!! I went on this tour today and it was fabulous. The food was great. We tried a little bit of everything I will definitely be returning to these restaurants. The tour guide was very friendly and informative about what and where we were eating. I can't wait to take the mid town tour next. What a fun way to experience good food in Reno

Had such a fabulous time taking the downtown food tour with great friends. Such a fun & unique way to learn about the city I have lived in for over 20 years, as well as, learn about great food experiences that I didn't even realize were here. The idea of great food, a little bit of exercise through a casual easy paced stroll of my community and fun Reno facts made for a very worthwhile 3 hours. Thank you Reno Food Tours!

First lets talk about the free food. A number of Reno Bites chefs were on hand to be either met or to serve a little tasty morsel. All of the food was top notch. Now, I have to be clear. This was excellent, would pay for it top notch food, yet it was free! So the lines were long, what do you expect when you get high quality food for free? The event was exactly as I had expected. Lots of fun people turning out, my whistle getting wetted and my appetite being piqued. To be honest, when I saw the great turn out and the quality this event, it upped my excitement of not only Reno Bites Week, but also of getting to try Pignic in the near future!

Atmosphere - 4 stars Food - 4 stars Service - 5 stars Experience - 1 star Background - Meet and Greet with some local Chefs and taste their food, awesome idea. Atmosphere - Never been to Pignic before. Love the old house and the bar area. But did not learn anything about the concept of the place since it is not a traditional restaurant. I think the crowd was too big for the venue. I get that it is hard to know what kind of turn out you will have but it was nutty crowded. But free draws in a lot of people. Food Drink - The bar area was crazy so we skipped it. Food Pulled Pork Slider was the longest line and ended with a mini sales talk and the lady complaining about her husband's lack of help. The meat was really good on the slider. Grits with pork cheeks - Grits were thicker than I am use to but good. I only had one piece of pork but did not realize that was not the standard until afterwards. I would have loved to try more of the cheeks. Tequila Salmon on a chip - The soft salmon with the chip gave a nice contrast to each other. The tequila did not jump with flavor to me, but other indicated it did. Perhaps I drink too much and was masked by the salmon to me. I am not a big fish eater, but at the end there was some nice heat. Pork Belly - Some of the most tender pork belly I have ever had. I could have just kept eating that. My favorite of the night, thanks Dough. Dessert - They were actually the only item that was easily obtainable as they had plenty on one table to obtain on your own. The cookie was nice and gooey, which was my Service - The crew worked hard I have a feeling they did not expect this kind of turn out. Experience - Just trying to hang out and talk to people seemed to be a challenge as the crowd was too big. People trying to move from one area to another forced everyone to move. Lines to get stuff were not lines. There was no meeting the chefs like I expected. Dough and the Pignic guys have seen at other events in town so I knew who they were but they all were working their stations. The passport idea is great, as Reno does not do the event like bigger cities where a restaurant does a special menu for a week or two. It really helped to educate me on the whole concept and found more restaurants involved then I thought.

Bathroom was nice, bright and clean with soaking tub. Many power outlets to charge electronic devices. TV has lots of channels. Gym. Rock climbing activities for a fee through a separate company in the same building. Very nice staff. Easy check in/out. Relaxed ambiance. No casino attached so you don't have to go through busy, smoky casino lobby. In downtown Reno. Less than a block away to the famous Reno arch sign. Short walking distance from the front door to the big casinos. Cons: Parking garage is across the street, not attached to the hotel itself. Valet costs $25 per day. Self parking overnight is $8 per day. Maybe difficult during the winter especially when having to park next to the curb in front of the hotel entrance. No roof over the drop off at the front entrance. AC system was a bit loud. Price is at least $200 per night.

Level 2 has a rock climbing experience for those that are not afraid of heights. Have fun! Our room was large and well equipped. A fridge plus a safe are nice to have. AC kept the temperature where we like it and the curtains kept it dark late into morning. It was also quiet day and night. A giant plus for us is the dog friendly policy, awesome. We have already booked a stay for us and family during Hot August Nights to better take in the action without having to drive. You might think about that.

This is not a music venue that is temporary, they have put effort into having a permanent location for shows. There is a lot of parking in the area for the hotel/casino and is available for concert attendees. The audio was done well, especially for an outdoor venue. Up front near the stage the subs were really kicking. The tops were bright and clear, they could be heard quite a way away form the stage. Some front fill monitors brought audio to the front of the audience where the flown arrays didn't reach. There are challenges with rigging, power, and dealing with weather that have been well thought out. JMF Entertainment did a great job.

The J resort had a nice modern look throughout the hotel as you can tell with the modern art work. I loved the screen puzzle that displayed above the check-in desk. They had a nice screen I noticed too whilst at the pool. They have a cool little arcade center for kids and some restaurants here and there as well as a gift shop. I loved the hall and decor by the elevators but I didn't particularly like the sign in the the elevator that says please don't jump. That kinda makes me nerves as to why would they say that unless their elevators were unstable. The room was nice and clean with a fridge with some complementary water, microwave, and a huge bathroom. It was lacking a safe thought. We went down to the pool but had to bring out towels down as there were no towels by the pool that we saw. Checking out was a but harder as my husband had to call to check out & receipt wasn't emailed until 5 in the evening. It would've been nice to see right away to correct any discrepancies if any. Overall, was a good stay for what it was in Reno.

The casino is still so smokey. They either need better ventilation or prohibit smoking completely. The patrons at the Horseshoe Bar were obviously overserved. Screaming drunks, stumbling people. Honestly, where is security? Our room was on the 19th floor. It was a corner room and actually quite nice (until it wasn't) the king bed was comfy, there was a chaise lounge and 2 chairs. We overlooked a train yard and metal recycling plant. If you looked up, instead of down, the view was quite nice. Then, it happened. Hot water was running brown in both sinks and the shower. I called the desk, they said let it run. We did. Still brown. The white wash cloths were discolored. She said the cold water is okay to drink. Ummm, no. I asked for bottled water to be sent up. At midnight, when it still hadn't arrived I called the desk. No answer. I affixed a note to the door asking to not knock, just leave the water, which they did. The only redeeming quality is Anthony's Chop House. I won't ever stay again.

Bed bugs, two room moves, and absolutely no mitigation plan!!!…read more I have never written a public review before, despite plenty of less than perfect experiences. I worked in the service industry for years and generally believe businesses deserve the opportunity to make things right. The Nugget had that opportunity and chose not to.. During our stay for Hot August Nights, we discovered bed bugs in room 1638. Security responded promptly, confirmed the issue, documented it, and moved us to room 2838. That replacement room had a long standing AC leak, saturated carpet, peeling wallpaper, and visible growth behind the wall covering. Engineering inspected it the next morning and told us we absolutely could not remain there. We were moved again, to room 1242. The frontline employees were kind, responsive, and genuinely helpful. Management was the problem. We repeatedly asked what the hotel could do to prevent us from carrying bed bugs into the next rooms or home with us. There was no laundry service, no heat treatment option, no containment procedure offered, and no written policy or protocol available when requested. We were allowed to move the same luggage and belongings from 1638 to 2838 and then to 1242 with no mitigation whatsoever. If we had picked up hitchhikers in the original room, we could easily have carried them through multiple hotel rooms and eventually home. We are now home and spending our own time laundering and heat treating our belongings because the property offered no assistance with this before our departure. Manager on Duty Cole Hughes was particularly disappointing. After initially avoiding speaking with us directly, he ultimately offered no meaningful assistance and told us, in substance, that once we left the property the problem would be ours. He then directed us back to Security, whose staff had already done far more to help us than management had. We requested management follow up in writing while we were still on property. No response. We requested information about what to do if we brought bed bugs home. No answer. We were told Risk Management would contact us in 7 to 15 business days. Before departure, I ultimately obtained the Risk Management phone number from Security myself. I called after returning home and left a message. This is what bothers me most: the Nugget responded to the rooms, but not to the guests. Moving us was necessary. It was not a complete response to a bed bug exposure. If this is what corporate ownership has turned guest service into, relocate, document, pass the customer to Risk Management, and wait for them to leave, it is incredibly disappointing. I am writing this because future guests should know: if you encounter bed bugs here, based on our experience, do not assume the property has a meaningful procedure in place to help prevent you from carrying them elsewhere or taking them home. Security and Engineering deserve credit. Management absolutely does not.
