The Resident is my go to spot for group events. It's big enough for a large party but still has a cozy feel about the space. There's a RV camper bar and food trucks in the space and everything else is picnic style bench/tables with fire pits everywhere. Like a camp ground in the middle of DTLA. The indoor portion features a live band on weekends and has it's own drink specials. Beers run around the $7 mark which is reasonable. The only downside is parking, which can be hard, but none the less still a great spot. read more

I came here on a Saturday evening around 7:30 pm! It wasn't too packed, but there was still a crowd. My friend and I decided to kill some time before our reservation at another location! This place is VERY cool! It has an almost backyard feel, with the lights hanging and the plants everywhere. When you first walk in, you'd notice to your left side is a trailer with the bar! It is this cool looking retro trailer turned bar, where you can order their beers or mixed drinks. On the right side is the food truck! Once you dive a little deeper into the bar, there are tables in the back. There is also a photobooth in the front (takes $5.00 bill CASH only!!). It is a great place to hang out with some friends on a Saturday evening. We both got a peach cider, which was a crispy, refreshing drink for a warm Summer's evening. We also ordered the brussel sprouts from the food truck. I love brussel sprouts, so my craving has definitely been satisfied! Definitely stop by the Resident if you're looking for a unique place to grab a drink and catch up with some friends. Outside, there are several gas powered fire pits/strips and plenty of seating to chill at. There is also an outside bar inside a hollowed out truck. Resident is probably one of my favorite spots in the Arts District. It's low key, outdoors and serves delicious food and drinks? Yes, please. There's an indoor and outdoor area. The handful of times I've been at Resident, I've never actually gone into the indoor room. They usually have live music in there though and if there's a special event going on, you'll have to pay to actually get in. The outdoor area however is super cute. There's lots of seating and lots of plants around with bistro lights illuminating the whole area at night. During the day, it's real chill. It never really gets crowded before 7PM, so if you just wanted to hang out and have a drink, this is the place to be. Obviously, it gets much more crowded at night, sometimes to the point where it's standing room only. They play good music, there's never a terrible wait for drinks and the food they serve out of the trailer is not bad at all. read more

Such a fun place! They have indoor and outdoor, a permanent food truck, several bars serving alcohol, and a stage for music events. I've been here four times now, and each time has been a great night! Three of the times have just been to hang out and drink on the patio. They have great drinks and knowledgeable bartenders. And there's plenty of space (despite this being a trendy, popular bar in a cool area, I've never had problems getting in on a Saturday night and never felt crowded). I came another time for an event, a Red Bull Sound Select concert. Make sure to visit the bathroom, the last one at the end of the hall. It has this art piece that's kind of a diorama? An awesome place that opened up in DTLA! Live music, lots of open space indoors and outdoors, arcade games and two bars on either ends of the venue. They light up the outdoors with lots of string lights overhead! T Beer and cocktail selections are both interesting and delicious, though not super extensive. I went on a saturday night with a large group, and both the indoor areas were extremely crowded. Went for a happy hour drink with my coworker recently. Super chill, plant-filled patio space. Really pleasant and shady, comfortable even during a heatwave! Bar and food setups are inside Airstream trailers as you enter. The bartender was very friendly, selection is solid, and the prices are reasonable. It sounded like a band was rehearsing or doing sound check inside so maybe there is live music later in the evening. I think there also may be a rooftop area. Worth checking out. read more

The atmosphere is fun and laid back, and there are even water misters for all your day-drinking needs. I went with a group of friends to celebrate another friends new job and we had a great time. The prices for food and for drinks were all pretty reasonable. My friend wanted a drink that wasn't on the menu and they were able to help us out and make us the drinks and the Brussel sprouts were amazing. I am not sure how they are prepared but if you go I think the Brussel sprouts are a MUST. Again parking is always iffy in this general area but someone told me they parked close to resident and they paid about 8 dollars. So last night Virg and I went here for Matt Pond PA concert. Cozy setting does have some couches here to sit if standing is not your thing. Restrooms are both women and men located downstairs and outside. Parking is lot parking and it was $7.00 when we first arrived.. apparently this street gets busy later with Urth Cafe being right down the street and later performances so it was $10.00 when we left at 10:00-ish. The bar outside is located in an airstream trailer so VINTAGE so CUTE! Bartenders were friendly and the drinks were inventive. The food options are from the Kitchn DTLA food truck and the offerings sound delicious. From the looks of the faces of the people eating at the park benches under twinkle lights it was tasty as well. The inside of the venue is great for a intimate performance and the acoustics were great keeping in mind that Matt Pond is 3 instruments - Violin, Guitar and Cello. Bartenders on the inside were trendy and the Liquor list was pretty much craft brands. Oh yea so I met Matt Pond (the lead singer) at the Bar and chatted with him before the show and also the young lady that was doing a duet with him as well her name was Laura from the band Mynabirds. Late night happy hour and 8$ cocktails???? Im coming back. Come from 11pm to close to get in on this. It's a cozy little nook that sometimes has a live band playing. Fireplace seating, tons of umbrellas, and libations from a trailer. It's a great date or hangout spot that's comfortable without being boring, quirky without being distracting. Also, the crowd of people who showed up the night I went were so nice. I don't know if this place attracts a certain crowd, but the atmosphere is incredibly friendly and welcoming. It's located in the area with Urth Caffe and some other super hipster places in Arts District. No dress code, I don't think. I got in wearing a hoodie, hat, and some beat up vans. Outdoor area had bunch of food trucks selling stuff (food, desserts, etc). didn't get to check them out but they were all busy. Picnic tables lined up outside for you to grab drinks and hang with friends. Bathrooms are located outside and inside the dance/bar area. The dance area had a stage but not sure if you can dance up there or not. Probably not, as one of the security guards incessantly notified one of my friends to get off the stage everytime she was on there. Some seating areas (by the stage and by the dance floor). the dance floor is not that big but it's not super tiny either. The DJ on (Saturday) spinned jazz/old school/pop/rock songs. Everyone seemed to be having a good time and we did as well. Bar is your standard beer + hard alcohol combo. Definitely need to check this place out on Friday, I hear they play more "ratchet' music on Fridays. read more

We went out for a Saturday night of dancing, it was a lady Gaga mashup night. Right as we got in we went to the bar for a few drinks- there was 5 of us. We noticed a female bartender that looked a little flustered/stressed. But as we watched her make drinks before getting to us, she just looked downright sloppy, we found ourselves asking "is she drunk??" She got to us and my girlfriend told her the order, right as she heard the first order she rushed to make it- not realizing we actually had 5 drinks to order. So after she made the first one, we told her the second, she made it, the 3rd, and so on. By the fourth, she blurted out "I CANT REMEMBER ALL THESE DRINKS" she pumped out one sloppy whiskey ginger which filled only half the glass. She didn't deserve a tip. 30mins later, a guy with a mustache made us the second round- and he was just as stressed making equally sloppy drinks. read more

Came here for the Valentines Day "Lovers Only" event on Saturday night. Although we did not stay for a long time, my friends and I enjoyed the throwback R&B music, comfy sitting areas outside and just the overall decor of the venue. This place has amazing ambience, especially when the sun starts to set and the string lights really start to illuminate the place. It goes along with the pop-up type of shop that fits right in in the heart of the arts district in DTLA. The bar was in a revamped trailer home and the place is decorated with a nice patio with fireplaces. The bartender has a special drink called "the Electric Buzz", which he usually only makes for Sunday brunches but he made an exception to make it for me on a Thursday. It involves whisky-coffee and foam in a small wine-looking glass..kind of tasted like an Americano with alcohol (I can understand why it goes well with brunch). Just a warning that this cocktail is very small in volume. I would really recommend this place if you're going for vibes and some unique cocktails. read more

On tap drinks, we got: New Fashioned - Old Forrester bourban, sweet potato liqueur, brown sugar, toasted pecan bitters $12 - Very good! Worth getting! Rollin's Shuffle - Nuestra soledad mezcal, ancho reyes, liquid alchemist ginger, lime $12 - Bf loved it. Very strong flavors..good stuff. This super chill, hipster little place is the perfect place for a get together with friends! They have a pretty full bar (I say pretty full because they were out of our first choice drink that night) and a tiny little food booth to get some unique meals! The ambiance is what sets this place apart from everything else. When you enter, you get the drinks bar that's served out of a tin RV to your left. And to your right, a small table with their grill behind them for food. The entire venue is like a big backyard patio. There are lots of benches as well as space to just stand, for you, your bae and everyone else. There's an indoor area that usually has a music event on the weekends. We couldn't get in because we didn't have tickets. Oh well! The service is great. Drinks come out quickly, the food is made to order (so no cold/microwaved snacks) so you get good quality and yummy munchies! We ordered a melt that was so delicious! Yes, the food is a bit pricey, but what bar food isn't? Parking should not be an issue. There's usually some space around Urth Café, and there's also a valet lot next to it. Resident... you could have been a hidden gem but Urth Caffe has put you on the map. If you're walking around the area then you're bound to bump into this place. I was brought here for the first time this weekend and I gotta say I really enjoyed it. Many groups of friends come here which intimidates the singles and partners. So bring a huge loud group when you come and you will become the most noticed.... Kind of like the jerks who always win Agario. Anyways, the drink to get is the $8 Daddy Issues. If the boot fits, wear it. And I wore it well! It was delicious and I should have ordered another instead of the New Fashioned. I'd rather keep it Old Fashioned, thank you very much. Huge fan. Location is in the Arts District but can easily be missed if you never knew it was across from Urth Cafe. This is a live music venue, but some nights they use a DJ. All good. Craft beers and cocktails are good. Staff and security are super cool. Crowd is diverse with professionals and hipsters roaming around both the indoor and outdoor bar. There is a converted trailer in the patio that serves the booze with a food truck selling drunchies - delicious drunchies! If you're partying in the outside patio area, you will be corralled inside at about 10pm due to noise regulations. Bathrooms are super clean. Your female friends will appreciate this venue for this fact alone! Parking is hit or miss. We parked in the lot at the Arts District Brewery and walked over. Definitely recommend this venue. The Arts District is definitely a hot destination spot bringing in people in from all over Socal. The Resident is the perfect venue for a large gathering, a place to catch up with friends over some drinks, or a great location to pre-game on your way to the rest of your evening! Enjoy! read more

Didn't take much to meet new people. Definitely a more hangout heavy area as opposed to the inside, which required an entrance fee.
