Came here a few nights ago for 90's night and had a blast! This was my first time at Resident and it was absolutely lovely. Being a solid lover of solo adventures in my city, I was excited to visit Resident. I've been so many places to dance around LA and there's always added excitement when the place is new to me. I made sure to look at as many yelp photos as possible to get an idea of the place and was looking forward to all the possible shenanigans I was going to partake in. My ride dropped me off at around 9:30pm, I walked in and was immediately surrounded by the beautiful outside area. The place was covered with trees and other greenery. On either side of the entryway, you can find two food trucks. I didn't get to try any of the food from them, but I did see a few pics of delicious looking stuff that left me salivating. I appreciated all of the seating outside as well. The night was beautiful and it was a nice contrast to all the party animals inside getting their dance on. Inside, where the party was happening, was a total blast. I got there early, so I luckily had space to dance, but believe you me, that place filled up mega fast. I managed to get a drink at the bar and if i remember correctly, drinks were about 10 bucks (not terrible). After about an hour or so of getting my groove on, I ended up leaving for the next venue, but I would like to come back and spend some more time here. All in all, this was the perfect start to my night. The party was fun and the atmosphere of the outside area was surprisingly relaxing and really made the entire experience that much more special. A good time overall. We came here on a Saturday and hung out all afternoon. There's a food truck, beer, liquor, a DJ, and a doorman checking ID. The food truck was surprisingly good. We enjoyed the Burger with the Arugula, rajas peppers, and the mayo sauce. Mmm! That IS a tasty burger! One of the better burgers we'd had in a long while. Surprising but delicious. Wish we'd ate it quicker though because the mayo and the juice from the beef patty run immediately. The seasame buns weren't dense enough to soak this up. Got a little unruly quick. Brussel Sprouts were excellent. Sauce was on point. We also tried their Doughnut. It's served so blazingly hot, but the flavor is fantastic. It's buttery but not cakey, and it has a terrific glaze on it all around. Drinks were served out of an airstream. We tried the Lime in the Coconut which was kind of like a Pina colada. Lots of ice in the glass though. The Blood Orange Tangerine Cider was refreshing. The Down in Mexico with mezcal was tasty too. They do shots here as well. Drinks are on the pricier side. Cocktails were around $13. Seems high just given how much ice is in them. On the Saturday that we were here, it was hot and humid. There's some light tree coverage and an umbrella, but it still gets sweltering even in the shade. And there's still a good amount of direct sunlight. Plus the music is really loud at the back end close to the speakers and the DJ. But they opened up the inside room at about 3pm, and what a relief this AC was. Made the experience so much better. Plus there's a full bar inside with lots of seating. If I were to return here though, it'd be on a cool day to enjoy being outside. There's street parking close enough, all up and down the block. And there's a $5 max parking lot next door. Urth Cafe is nearby ... a 30 second walk. But Urth surely adds to the parking troubles. Would return for that burger and to try the other food, and to sit outside on a cool enough day while far enough away from music to have a conversation. read more

This is a really cool cocktail bar/venue. I have only been outside where the bars are just trailers service cocktails and beers. I think they have an inside, but the outside is so cool and chill we spent our entire night there just chilling and chatting by the fire pit. Good music and decent drinks. read more

I have been a fan of Resident- the patio in particular since the beginning. What I appreciate most is that the patio is also Winter proof. The twinkly lights, ample seating and fire pits make it cozy... Or you could always go inside too. When they did a daytime Daft Brunch a couple years ago, I knew the daytime party DJ scene was a void in LA, that Resident could fill. #NYD ventured into the notorious DHB. The venue finally the motivation to check out this particular party. We parked in the lot and where inside within minutes. It was great inside and out. Everyone was in a great mood, and funny, the DJ & Congo players held the dancefloor. The indoor and outdoor bars were well staffed. Security efficient. Food available. Came here to watch LA Girlfriend in Feb. Awesome neat indoor outdoor venue. Love the bbq oven baked pizzas!! Music venue with bands playing every night, different charges (similar to Satellite). Live music?! Yes, a bar worth checking and chilling at. Indoor is a cool small spot with live music, a booth or two, one bar and one restroom. Expect to stand for the band. If you find a spot, it'll be difficult to see them unless you're in the back. As for the bar, I recommend getting your drinks here if the line at the outside bar is too long. They have more bartenders in here. They have a small but good selection of bourbon and whiskey....prices range from $10+ for a drink. Outdoor is a cool beer garden with a RV bar like the 70s bar. Theres only 2 bartenders at this bar when I came. Planning to hit this place up for brunch one of these warm sunny California days. Food - I loveeeeeee the freshly bbq grill oven baked pizzas. They make it so fast, so thin and so yummy! No gluten free, dairy free options....but I guess I can't complain when it was free at the even we were at. There is a paid parking lot on the same block or so. Careful not to confuse it with Urth Cafe's parking lot. read more

Came across this place when my best friend wanted to check out their New (Old) Fashion--has a modern twist to it. Not bad, but a little too strong in my opinion. I was pretty stoked though to check out this cute, hipster spot. There's a food truck right in front of the entrance with lots of options but ended up with the short rib sandwich and what looked like loaded garlic potatoes? So good. The only downside is that they ended up closing the outside patio a little early and started asking people to go inside. When that happened, the band started playing and it was just overall difficult to have conversations with friends or people around you without raising your voice. Ended up leaving right afterwards, but definitely a chill spot I'll be frequenting since I'm not too far from the Arts District. Parking is everywhere but be careful when there's event around that area, might be a little difficult. Overall, it's a great space for friends to chill and spot to drink and eat. Totally would recommend it for those hipster lovers out there. read more

I really liked this very charming bar. It's located around the corner from the Angel City brewery and has a very detailed beer list with most bottles and drafts priced at $6 or $7. I had no idea there was even an indoor part of Resident, since I spent my time in their dog-friendly outdoor patio, surrounded by cacti. They have a food truck and an Airstream-turned-bar in the front near the entrance and bench and table seating in the back of the patio. It would be a low-key spot for a large group to gather. read more

Resident is a great place to grab drinks and hang out! First off, the lights are so cute and the outdoor patio vibe is so welcoming. It may be harder with a larger group if you come later in the night, but there's a lot of seating and places to stand. You get to order your drinks at this trailer in the front near the entrance. And right across there's a food truck if you want some munchies. There's also a bar all the way in the back outside. Love the drink names and choices. Personally, I tend to order drinks on the sweeter side and here I can never taste the alcohol in them. Which can either be a good or bad thing, depending on how you look at it. It's located in the Arts District, so mostly street parking around the area. But it isn't too difficult to find a parking spot if you don't mind walking a bit. read more

It's an open atmosphere.Cool vibe.Easy parking and good up and coming street.Lunch truck is different and food is good.Bands start at 9pm inside building.We never made it inside.No idea who and what type of music was playing that evening.It gets really busy after 8pm.Bar lines can take a while and drinks are $13. This is a pretty neat place - from the outside, it doesn't look like anything special, but as you walk in, suddenly you're no longer in DTLA, feels more like you're off camping, except camping with an awesome bar. Totally love the feel of the place. I found the place through Hooch, and the drink I tried through that app (the Oaxacan Razor) was legit - super balanced, the right amount sweet, spicy and mezcal-y. So it wouldn't surprise me if the rest of their cocktails were also just as good. They have a pretty nice craft beer list, too. Sadly, their 8 dollar cocktail happy hour (on all the pre-batched cocktails) is only Monday through Friday, or I would've tried one of those as well. If I'm ever back in the area on a Friday, though, totally trying some more. Or, heck, next time I'm in the area and I hadn't already been drinking all afternoon like last time I was there, might just try one or two of the others even at full price ($12 is still totally reasonable for the sort of craft cocktails I saw on the list, based on the quality of the one I had.) read more

Went to watch the Death Valley Girls here awhile ago- good decor, good vibes, very trendy. Great patio space and a nice place to chill for a drink if you find yourself in the Arts District. Had a glass of daddy issues, would probably get it again. They also have this truck installed inside the place which is pretty neat- and the ambiance is great at night, especially if there is a show going on! I've only been during showtime, but I'm sure this place is great otherwise! read more

The Resident was a great place for my friend and I to have a cold beer. I had a blood orange tangerine cider and it was to die for. It was amazing! I also got a grilled cheese. I'm only rating this 4 stars because the grilled cheese wasn't the best. The cheese wasn't very melty and I felt that it could've been of better quality. STEPH JUDGEMENT: Very cool hangout with a relaxed, welcoming vibe. The bf and I were in the area and needed to kill a little time. We looked around for potential Hooch bars and this place came up. Neither of us had ever heard of it before that night but we're now fans! It helped that on the night we went the weather was very pleasant, as it's a very outdoors-centric place, with a cool open courtyard with a bar in a trailer as you walk in. There's a small building with another bar with space for live performances and a jazz band was playing the night we were there. It was still early so the vibe was very chill. On another occasion we visited it was almost midnight and it was really crowded, so pick your poison. We enjoyed some very nicely crafted cocktails under the stars; we can't wait to go back! read more

I love coming here on a warm day to enjoy the outdoor area. They have a trailer turned into a bar where you can order drinks and they also have a 2nd trailer that sells food. Service is always friendly and they have a nice selection of drinks - beer, wine and cocktails. On Sunday's they have a live DJ playing music. I'm not sure if it's the same on the other days. The place has seating but if you are coming with a big group, I suggest you get there early as it does fill up. There's street parking in the area which can be a little scary as most of the businesses are closed on the weekends. I really want to check out one of the live music shows they have in the evening. read more

Once again, they've got me with the string lights! My friends and I love going out in Arts District. They have a spot for every mood you're in and the best part is they're all walking distance from each other. This place got a great thing going, there are plenty of seating, 3 bars to avoid long lines and a food truck for those with drunchies or just simply hungry. It might seem lowkey from the outside but this is a very chill bar with a beautiful atmosphere. When you first walk in, you'll see a trailer to your left that sells alcohol and to your right is a food truck (Ktchn LA). Then there's a huge outdoor area with picnic tables and fire pits for cooler nights. They also have an indoor area where they host events on the weekends and live bands play at. Keep in mind that some events require you to buy a ticket. Everything is reasonably priced and they offer a great selection of beer and cocktails. First, we go to DTLA CBS seafood restaurant to eat dim sum then walk around the Chinatown to digest our food, then come to Resident to have a rest and enjoy our time. Jalisco style beer and tequila is our favorite. Sitting at patio next to trees with cool people is the best part of the day. It's beautiful ambiance! With my gym being directly across the street from this place, I have quickly become a resident here. See what I did there? Awesome spot to have a couple drinks either during the day or at night. There's an indoor space where they'll occasionally have music events that has plenty of space to hang out. The outdoor patio is where it's at though! There's fireplaces for when it gets chilly and there's benches, tables, and high tops for everyone to enjoy. They usually have specialty cocktails available, but they also have a nice beer and cider menu for those who crave carbonation. There's a food truck located inside the bar as well. They have a delicious pulled pork sandwich and the fried potatoes and Brussels sprouts are a definite must try! I'm super bummed about the breakfast burrito vanishing from their menu, it was so bomb! Awesome place with great vibes and good service. Come by and bring the crew! Quick Tips: 1. Parking on the street can be pretty easy, but there are paid lots in the area. 2. I don't recommend this place not because of anything they did wrong but more so because I didn't do my research. The personality type is indie meets hipster. I saw a couple of long tutus on both men and women and goth vibes so it's just a different vibe than I go for. That being said, there is no actual kitchen, just food trucks and picnic tables. It is very chill and the drinks are around $10 so it's an okay place to meet up with someone for an extremely chill vibe where there is no pressure to put thought into how you look or what you wear. Street parking is everywhere but hard to come by. I would say it's not worth parking in the $15 lot next door because the place is so underwhelming you might as well stalk people for street parking and keep your coins. I didn't even know this nook of DTLA existed tbh. There's a nice outdoor bathroom and and an inside but I didn't go inside. read more

Great place. Very cool layout consisting of 2 food trucks: one with food, one with drinks. I love the outdoor patio area: fire pits mitigate the cold somewhat but be forewarned- many smokers. If you're particularly sensitive, don't be "that guy/girl", just go somewhere else. Not hatin', just statin'. The outdoor patio constitutes almost all seating/standing unless you're there for the live music, which is all indoor. The indoor space is large & usually loud (such an eclectic range of music on virtually any given night). One star off for crowding and rarely is the music my style, but again not their fault but more a reason I can't give 5 stars if it isn't an absolutely amazing experience without qualification. read more

Fortune Cookie cocktail! That is the first thing we saw on the menu. Well, the actual name is Evil Evil Monkey, which is a cognac based drink, topped off with a good ole' fortune cookie you can eat after finishing that drank. Anyhow, this is a chill spot to hang out at with a couple choices for food (food truck and another food stand). They've got a decent beer list along with good cocktails. It's mostly outdoors though there's a small indoor section with music and a dance floor and another cocktail bar inside. It never seemed to be overly crowded the two times I've went and you can easily show up with a decent sized group and manage to grab a seat though there's plenty of standing space too. Although the bar itself seems nice, I like the open area, I went there on my birthday this year a few months ago. When we were ordering, I said to the bartender in a joyous, happy mood, "It's my birthday and I'm wondering what you would recommend as something special," He looked at me with the dirtiest look- that interaction stayed with me which is why I've come here today to write about it. I don't know why he would shoot me a look like that, I imagine he thought by sharing that it was my birthday maybe I expected to get a free drink? Or maybe he thought I was lying? I don't know. But it was 100% my birthday and I was not trying to get anything from him. I don't think that I should be going around in the world hiding the fact that it's my birthday when I'm clearly in a festive celebratory mood with my friends. The normal response would've been for someone to say happy birthday! That was definitely not an expectation of mine, I just wanted him to give me a suggestion for a drink as per his job. I definitely did not expect to be glared at and then feel confused during a special day. Edit: I looked through some of the other reviews and see it's normal for people to be treated rudely in this establishment. So, yikes. read more

The food truck rocked it. Had the Mediterranean potatoes, verde potatoes, quesilda was adequate. Pulled pork with egg was phenomenal. Atmosphere is airy and light with an aloof sense of dinner organization. Not traditional but lively and creative. Card was charged an extra $70 from this place 2 days after i even went. Bartenders either saved my info or this place kept my tab open? They're "open" but no one picks up the phone. Anyways since that was finally settled & I got my money back, this place wasn't of much help. They just told me to file a dispute, which I did. Somebody also used my tab the night I did go (08/20) , to buy themselves a drink but I mean whatever, pay it forward a-hole. The atmosphere was cool, everyone's chatting & drinking. The Resident is my go to spot for group events. It's big enough for a large party but still has a cozy feel about the space. There's a RV camper bar and food trucks in the space and everything else is picnic style bench/tables with fire pits everywhere. Like a camp ground in the middle of DTLA. The indoor portion features a live band on weekends and has it's own drink specials. Beers run around the $7 mark which is reasonable. The only downside is parking, which can be hard, but none the less still a great spot. read more
