Prices are very reasonable, but the inside is a bit dated, but by the look of it, this place focuses the more important things, the food. We ordered the chips with guacamole which were fresh made and came on top of refried beans. the gauc was fantastic, the chips fresh, and the salsas nice and spicy but bold with flavor. I had the flautas which left a little to be desired, needed more seasoning. the misses had the gorditas, which were tasty, but still not full of flavor as you expect from authentic Mexican. overall enjoyable an enjoyable visit. read more

I have to admit, we actually did not eat at this restaurant. The neighborhood was too sketchy to even get out of our car. The area is poorly lit, and appeared to have gang-type individuals and homeless people. Most all the buildings on the street had iron bars on the windows. This place is pretty standard compared to other Mexican restaurants in the area, but nothing special. I can think of multiple other places where the Mexican food is more flavorful, but it's convenient for me and good enough for an occasional return visit. I'd recommend the a la carte items (tacos, tostadas, etc.) over the entrees for the bigger bang for the buck. read more

Great Mexican food. I wasn't feeling too crazy, so my sister and I split quesadillas and flautas. We also got some yummy guacamole with chips. Our server was friendly and the atmosphere was great. I have to say I was thrilled to discover that this restaurant, formerly know as simply "Mexico," was still alive and kicking. Originally, going back many years, it was a tiny place with three tables, at most, but as tasty and authentic as I've had in the area. Quite a bit more so, actually...Now, they've renovated a bit and the restaurant is colorful and is a nice complement to the food. Everything you order tastes as it should, portions are perfect, and the servers are nice people and efficient. Parking can be an issue, at times, but that's how we roll in Providence. Parking lots are overrated. Nevertheless, if you want authentic, reasonably-priced Mexican food, head over to Atwells Ave. and give this restaurant a try. read more

Best authentic mexican food in RI that I've come across. I've been going here my whole life. Their chips are the best ever, and their gorditas are to die for. My only complaint is that their prices keep going up (this used to be a cheap place to eat) and the portion sizes keep decreasing (they are like mini tacos and gorditas to what they used to be). That's really a bummer, and I don't go there as much as a result of this now. But it's still the best authentic mexican food around. read more

Despite the name, this is a very traditional small Madre and Padre type Mexican restaurant you would find in LA or San Francisco. The food and service were great. The menu is surprisingly large including lingua and cow feet tacos. The cocktails - Margaritas, of course - were ok, not great. The prices are amazingly low. The neighborhood may be a little off-putting but don't let that dissuade you. It's worth the trip. read more

I came here with a group of friends last week - I picked this place based on raving reviews I read on yelp. Unfortunately there was nothing good about our meal. Chips tasted like they had been sitting out for days, guacamole pictured would have cost $5 extra, tacos and just about every dish we tried were bland and not tasty. And the food did not sit well in the stomach for a couple of us through the following day :( Not to mention this place is in a rough neighborhood and service was painfully slow. By far, my favorite place if you want some authentic Mexican cuisine. I always order their barbacoa tacos since I love goat meat. It comes with two tasty sauces you can choose from that compliment well together with the tacos. The onions & cilantro they add to it is absolutely divine. Waitresses are always attentive. I even lived in Southern California and tried every Mexican place north of the border. This is still my favorite Mexican restaurant. Love this place we have been customers for 20 years, when they were a smaller hole in the wall. No foo foo and if you look around mostly neighborhood people which we like. the Queso Fundido was fabulous and came with soft flour Tortillas and chips. their side salsa are red and green both distinct in their own way. I ordered the Carne Asada it was not over cooked and the Mexican Rice with peas was a nice touch. I have tried their new location downtown which has a nicer atmosphere and the food is just a s good. Ask about the sampler which is huge and presents with just about everything they have to offer. read more

I love their food. We usually get burritos, flautas( taquitos) and tacos. Not only is there salsa and chips awesome but the rice and beans are cooked to perfection. Reasonably priced as well. Neighborhood is ok, just park close to the curb. My only gripe is how slow the service is! It took one hour for lunch it was not too busy but definitely not a quick lunch. Lunch should take no more than 45 mins and 30 for people on lunch breaks. Please get the food out faster! read more

Mexico is our favorite restaurant, period. When we moved to RI about 15 years ago we were looking for a good Mexican restaurant and we found Mexico and we have never stopped loving it. The kids have grown up in the environment. We have to go there once a month at least if not every week. My college-going son who lives in Houston (which is supposed to have good Mexican food) has to eat in Mexico when he is here. My high school son though does not like to come with us for dinner anymore is usually tempted to go to Mexico. We love the food, the friendly environment. And we like to entertain there too. All of our friends and relatives that we have taken there like it and remember it if they cannot go there again. The green sauce is so good and the Ranchero chips are the best. Yummy.... I would recommend Mexico with my eyes closed. We are Vegetarians and from India. I have not yet met anyone who has not loved this place. Try it. You will not be disappointed.. read more

There was a gigantic piece of bone in one of my barbacoa tacos. It looked like piece of a jigsaw puzzle with super sharp edges and I bit right into that sucker. When I showed it to the waitress she looked at it and said, "okay." We had to drive to lasalle right away and wash the taste of this disgusting food out of our mouths with iced coffee and pastry. These guys were literally unfazed when they saw that bone. It's either normal to them or they don't care. So if you like bones in your food give this place a try. Disgusting. read more
