Ordered a lunch special for pickup on Saturday via one of the third-party service apps (Fantuan). When I arrived, the restaurant owners told me that the price was too low and they would not make the food. The order was for a LA Galbi lunch special for $18. Each one of their online partners lists the same price. The two front of house informed me that: A: the LA Galbi is supposed to be $30, B: the lunch special is only Monday-Friday, and C: they don't take discounts (Fantuan advertised a 10% discount for Pickup orders). Now I am waiting for the delivery partner to contact the restaurant and ask to explain the situation. To be quite honest, do not expect great service, but do expect great food. It's a cozy little joint in the alley way, which I was confused about the first time I went here. It seems sketchy but I swear it's not! The eating space is very open and there's plenty of seating. You're usually greeted right away if someone is at the front register. when you walk in you see a sushi bar and lots of wooden seats. I wish I could give a review of all the dishes I have tried here, but that would take forever. I like starting out with dukbokki with ramen as an appetizer. It's rice cakes, fish cakes, and some vegetables in a spicy sauce. Ramen is extra, but it makes it soooooo much better. Entrees come with side dishes such as potatoes (that are highly addicting), kimchi, pickled cucumber, fish cakes, etc. It really varies but those have been the most constant. They have daily specials and I typically come in a Saturday for their $7.95 budae jigae which translates to "Army Stew." It comes with some clear glass noodles, spam, cheese, and some vegetables. It's a hot and sour broth flavor. It's more delicious than it sounds! There is also the dolsot bibimbap. Ugh so delicious. The sound of the rice sizzling and crisping away at the bottom. It comes with mushrooms, cucumbers, carrots, spinach, beans sprouts, and a fried egg on a bed of rice. It comes with typically a gochujang based sauce and sesame oil so you can mix everything together. The stone pot just makes it all the better and keeps the food hot for a long period. When you get to the bottom you get to scrape off some crispy rice bits which is THE best!! The servers can seem stand-off-ish and sometimes they rarely check in. I've waited about 20 minutes for a check once and almost an hour for a water refill. I come back for the food. read more

I came here from Michigan and it's been hard to find some chill, ambient, korean-tasting restaurants. This place matched all the criteria's, and it felt like I just entered a nice hotel. The korean food there was nice and home-reminding, as I am from South Korea. They do everything right, with the food choices and the appetizers, and the fun environment made for all customers to relax in. The service was great and it felt very welcoming. This is a decent Korean food spot. I love that they're open pretty late and have traditional dishes. There's free WiFi here, plenty of parking, and plenty of tables for small and big groups! I try to get something new every time and usually I'm not disappointed. Prices are typical for Korean food (a bit expensive) and portions are normal. I paid about $17 with tax and tip. I've been here many times and I've noticed that service is very slow here. However, food is good and hot when it comes. A decent Korean/sushi restaurant in Columbus. My table ordered the bulgogi, japchae (glass noodles), haemul pajeon (seafood pancake), and a pitcher of yogurt soju. I would say that everything we got was just okay. The japchae was probably my favorite and the most delicious. The bulgogi came on top of an open flame which was great but the meat itself was already slightly over cooked / dry. I wish the bulgogi marinade was less sweet and the meat quality was a bit better. The seafood pancake was also ok, it wasn't as large as a typical Korean pancake but it was still pretty tasty. The pancake was fairly soggy though. I expected it to be a lot crispier. I don't think the yogurt soju was worth it because the pitcher was fairly small and it was $25. We couldn't really taste any soju until we got down to the last quarter of the pitcher. I think next time I'll come back for one of the dinner deals. It seems to be a lot of food for a really great price. read more

Such a fun, casual spot to go on a date or hang out with friends! The owner is the sweetest and encouraged my group of friends to join another group doing karaoke. She is so fun and hilarious and loves to take pictures for you. It's a bit pricey, but for the service and free karaoke, I definitely think it's worth it if you take advantage of that. Some may argue that there are more authentic Korean restaurants in Columbus but Silla has been a favorite for our family for years now. The entrance is kind of hidden but they're opened pretty late into the evening so it's a great spot for dinner with friends. Hot pot: a must! Hae Mul Soon Tofu and Budae Ji Gae are our favorites. Hae Mul Soon Tofu has a lot of seafood and tofu in it. Budae Ji Gae, on the other hand, has been our hot pot of choice lately and it has spam, rice cakes, tofu, pieces of hot dog and cheese in it. Paired with a steaming hot bowl of sticky rice, it is SO good. Japchae: Korean stir fry with glass starch potato noodles, beef and vegetables. The chewy texture of the noodles cooked in their oil-based sesame sauce is always a go to dish that we recommend to those that don't enjoy spicy foods. Korean BBQ or Galbi: I prefer this over the Bulgogi. These marinated grilled short ribs complete our trifecta. Throughout the years we've tried many other dishes from their menu. I've only gotten delivery from here, so I can't speak to the actual dine-in experience. My order came on time, and food was still hot/fresh on arrival, so a definite plus! For Columbus, Ohio, this is a really good Korean restaurant. The japchae here is very good, flavors are on point and the noodles had good chew (it'll be difficult not to order that every time, honestly). The bulgogi is pretty standard, with good flavors and the meat was tender, but it wasn't the best bulgogi I've ever had. The soondae was really good, though it was actually my first time eating it so I have no basis of comparison (it's just something I've always wanted to try, and it didn't disappoint). I loved the spicy radish that came with the soondae, and I'm a huge fan of how much jalepenos/garlic they provided with the soondae. The only letdown was the dduk bokgi -- it wasn't spicy for some reason, and because it was lacking in spiciness, it kind of just tasted too sweet. I'm really glad this place delivers too. Silla used to be one of my favorite Korean restaurants in Columbus. It was actually the very first Korean restaurant that I ate at when I moved down here for college. The vibes were good, the customer service was great, and the food was delicious. Sadly, all of that has slowly gone downhill over the years. I used to bring my non-Korean friends here all the time just so that they could enjoy some Korean cuisine too; however, it's not as much fun anymore. I can't remember the last time I actually had good customer service here (which is why I probably stop in once a year now). The kimchi chigee is still as good as it has always been, but other dishes seem to have gone downhill as well. This past weekend, I did not like any of the side dishes that were offered. While I normally love the fish cakes, they were not so tasty this time around. I also ordered the jajagmyeun which is typically good as well; however, the serving size was pretty small (very little noodles) and they added shrimp to the meal (which I've never had) and ruined the entire meal. The noodles, sauce, and added bulgogi were really good - but the shrimp seriously ruined it all. I am not sure if I'll return again after this last experience. Ironically, there are two other Korean restaurants within one mile of Silla that I may start frequenting more often instead. read more

When I found out this restaurant made ja jhang myun noodles which is noodles black bean paste sauce I had to try to them immediately. I've made it before from scratch and liked it but to have it from a restaurant was even better. When I walked in I noticed social distancing for those dining in and some really good smelling food being served. Next time I will be dining in because everything looked so colorful and fresh. This Korean specialist is a well known entity in the C-town Yelpisphere and #foodiecolumbus. Found hidden in what seems like a trash alley dented in the Henderson Place stripmall, the authentic menu ,which also includes Japanese dishes, have fed area rousers since the days when Bill cigared interns in the oval office. This space is found behind the 'affluent dive' of Spud's pub. The flat, windowless room is clean, quiet, and an almost clandestine darkness gives it character. The wait staff here is professionally ran, servers often sit waiting for business, the manager (owner?) is on top of every little detail. A flashy bar run the inside wall but doesn't seem staffed very often. I came for a quick bite my last visit. chicken fried rice is a mega deal at $8.95. Gourmet is the level they reach for. All ingredients are delectably prepared and served in theirown dish for you to sample or mix. They are of the best quality. Very good. Very, very, good. Resteraunt Silla is still a great place and a hidden jewel for Columbus newbs and visitors, a two decades old institution in the Northwest/ UA area. read more

Imagine this. It's Christmas morning and you've just been handed the most beautifully wrapped gift you've ever seen. The paper is shining and splendid, the ribbons are soft and full. It even smells good! Everyone around you is assuring you that this'll be the perfect present! And then you open it to find a stinking, wet turd. So it goes with Restaurant Silla... I wanted so badly to love this charming little place. A friend had recommended it highly -- and, upon arriving and finding the restaurant tucked away (almost hidden!) in a little alleyway, I was instantly intrigued. The interior intrigued me even more -- that soft, bright, sort of splendidly pleasant design that so many quality Asian restaurants have, with privacy screens between the tables and a big bar, jazz piano playing quietly overhead. But the "wow!" bus stops there. Silla was nearly empty when we arrived at 5:30 -- but it still took nearly 10 minutes for a waiter to materialize and seat us (no host at the front of the house). We were just standing there in front of the "Please Wait to Be Seated" sign like a couple of rubes. This waiter informed us that we should order using our phones and a QR code on the table. Fine, fine, lots of places do that post pandemic (although it's obviously not for safety's sake -- the waiters aren't wearing masks or anything). What he did *not* tell us was that this meant there would be no other service whatsoever. He never brought us any water -- we had to ask. And we had to ask twice more to have it refilled because he only filled our glasses up halfway (he spilled it all over the table the second time around). All of this is compounded by the fact that there's no option to order water on the phone app and the single waiter spent most of his time mysteriously invisible, unavailable to be waved over. Well, OK -- kind of a bummer of a system (and really makes you wonder what you're tipping for, exactly) but whatever. At least the food is good, right? WROOOOOONG. The pajeon appetizer was pretty good, passable, but all that came thereafter sang only of cooking in bad conscience. My wife's favorite Korean dish is the classic bibimbap served in a sizzling stone pot -- so that's what she ordered. What she got instead was an offensively bland bowl of rice and unseasoned meats and veggies that seemed to taste predominantly of the vessel in which it was cooked -- sort of metallic and gross. And me? Well I ordered some kalbi Korean BBQ -- which arrived on a bed of raw, uncooked onions. The meat itself was so gristly that I was worried about being able to chew it fully, let alone swallow without choking. All this served on a piece of plastic designed to *look* like a piece of sizzling black stone. The side of rice I had to ask for using the notes section of the app (because there's no in-app button to order rice... at a Korean restaurant) -- and guess what: the side of rice never appeared. All that kind of icky food? Took over an hour and a half to arrive. Our appetizer came fast enough. But we arrived at 5:30 and our entrees showed up only a little before 8 PM. In all that time the waiter only checked on us once -- and when he realized we had no food? Well, out came the food a few minutes later. In the meantime, we listened to the owners' children playing loud video games the next table over, the kitchen staff SCREAMING at one another in the back, and then watched plates and plates of food being brought out to people who had arrived over an hour after we had. And then, on our way out of the place, we ran into (who I suppose was) the chef, chatting it up outside with some pals. Silla -- more like Swilla -- go on, go on. Too long? Didn't read? Want the most atrociously bad service around? Worse than even the worst airport restaurant? Come here! Want lousy, overpriced food? Silla's the spot for you! Want to do anything but enjoy your meal? You belong here, baby. And it's really no great loss: Columbus is FULL of excellent Korean restaurants. Hey, even a beautiful face can still have a big, oozing pustule right there on its nose, right? This was my first time here. I love Korean food, and it was ok. However, service will prevent me from coming back. It took about 15 minutes before our order was taken, and then at least an hour before we started getting our food. And my full meal was delivered to me before my dinner companion got any of his meal. Also - if you have any sort of food allergy, make sure your dish will be safe. I got the black bean sauce noodles and I was surprised it had shrimp.
