Every Sunday from 11am-3pm, something wonderful happens at Revolver Taco Lounge: Sunday brunch. Lots of places have brunch you say? Well, Revolver's brunch is special. It's $35 per person ($15 for kids) and all you can eat. But it's not just that there's a lot of food... When you arrive at their front door, mosey up to the bar to pay. Then you'll open the door and walk into the alleyway next door (sounds weird, but it'll make sense when you're there). And from there on out, it's just excellent food and excellent service. When you arrive at the buffet line, you'll see tables and tables covered in vibrant oilcloth tablecloths, lots of traditional Mexican serving dishes, and charming, friendly older women who will explain each dish and ask you if you'd like to try some. You'll see tortillas being pressed and cooked and placed into tortilla warmers for your table (we were a table of 6 and finished our first batch of tortillas and went back for more). The offerings are extensive and has something for everyone (although I wouldn't recommend this brunch for vegetarians for vegans since their choices are limited): arroz a la mexicana; refried beans; mushrooms and squash sauteed in butter, tomato, onion, and jalapeno; menudo; baby back ribs in toasted chile de arbol sauce; beef and cactus stew; scrambled eggs with machaca, chicken with mole michoacano, and more... Beyond the line, they bring each table a serving of chilaquiles and a nice lady comes by with a basket of burritos and tamales. There's also a selection of pan dulce for dessert (I shared a concha with my family while we enjoyed their café de Olla - sweetened coffee with cinnamon. To drink, there was an agua fresca, but you can also wander to the bar for a drink (not included in the price of brunch) if you want. Everything was delicious, so come hungry. And save room for the burritos because they were a surprise hit at our table. It's so much food and all really tasty - and a great value. But more than the food, the experience was also just so wonderful. We felt at home and really taken care of. A special brunch for sure. Don't miss it. read more

I don't see why Purepecha is rated as one of the top tasting menus in Dallas... I thought the food was average? None of the flavors really stood out to me as spectacular Mexican food. I think my favorite dish was the corn tortillas and salsa at the start. It's a cool environment since you're sitting at a family dining table right in the kitchen. You get to see the chef and his assistants preparing your food. I definitely do not think it's worth the price to eat here. read more

We went to Purepecha for my birthday. And I'm leaving this review just comparing it to other chef coursed meals I've had. - Ambiance is very intimate/secluded. Kinda feels like you're watching your mom cook a family meal. Loved that the place is family run. You sit at a table with other parties - Love how the chef tells the story behind the meal - Standouts: mole was FANTASTIC. Tres leches was perfect, subtly sweet (how I like it). That homemade tomato salsa with the tortillas was superb - we did NOT enjoy how fatty the meats were, which is just a preference. Practically chewing on lard. We had a five star brunch today, served by several grandmas that may have cooked much of the food. Everything was fresh and delicious, and everything listed on the website was served except the shrimp and lobster dish, which I would have enjoyed trying. Especially amazing with the mole (served with braised chicken leg), ribs, mushroom/squash, menudo, agua fresco, and Mexican coffee, a bit sweet and cinnamony. The space feels like a picnic area, with lots of cement and some nice skylights. The buffet is set up and served from several large folding tables, and it all works together nicely for a memorable and delicious experience. read more

I use a power wheelchair with a seat elevator function, so right away I was happy to see they had bar seating that I could easily raise my seat up to. The interior was hip and colorful and the staff were very friendly. I tried the Beef Wagyu Taco (5$) and the young goat taco (15$). They also served them with a habanero lime salsa and they had an extra spicy sauce available too. The wagyu taco was not really my thing, because the meat seemed pretty dry and tough even with salsa on it. However, the goat taco was the bomb; it was really pricey at 15$ but had as much meat as at least 3 tacos, and the meat was juicy and delicious, so it was worth it for me. Goat is delicious by the way haha. Another staff member recommended I come to the Sunday brunch, which is 35$ for all-you-can-eat. I think I will indeed do that. Overall; cool place if you are down in Deep Ellum looking for some tacos. Bring a little cash and you'll be more likely to find something tasty. More like boutique tacos than value tacos. read more

Mole meh, beans flavorless, coffee watered down. The only thing I would say I liked was the cucumber mint infused water. I think they must have paid good money for the influencers to start ramping this place up as if it's the next best thing, but it's mediocre at best. read more

They let us know about the ethics of avocado harvesting and why there was an increase in their guacamole prices. Ufff!! Wow, how things have changed!! This place has gone downhill and it's post covid. The quality of their food has gone to s*#t for real. We stopped in after the Christmas parade in downtown and we were hungry after being out there all morning, so I decided and said let's go to Revolver Taco Lounge and get some great tacos, NOPE!!! The owner decided to change the old taco lounge where the older lady would make tacos with love and make a it a fancier eatery and now the new location is the only taco lounge and the older lady is out. (I know it's confusing) but I digress. The bottom line is that we all got served cold azz tacos and the sad thing is we didn't send anything back because we were so damn hungry so we ate them. We did mention that to the order guy and he passed that along to the cooks, so they took off an item on our bill. The sad part is that we will never return. Don't you hate it when you have something great and then you want to experiment and head in a different direction with your restaurant and it ruins what made you great in the first place, sad. read more

Absolutely the worst service. We go on a Tuesday night at 8:30. We are literally the only two people. We order tacos, then go sit at the bar right in front of Tony, the "bartender". We order drinks and get them. He then sits with his back to us the entire time. He literally played on his phone, right in front of us. When we wanted to cash out, we couldn't get his attention. So, I taped on the bar cups to try and get him. He finally turned around, and again he was sitting right in front of us. He told us that we were extremely rude to call out "hey" to get his attention when no one else was in the entire place. He was so annoyed that he told us to leave. So I asked for his name, and he replied with an unprofessional tone: "It's Tony, just leave." He is the voice of Revolver. I fully recommend that you look for other places in the area where you will be welcome. But not here. I'm sure management will say they are sorry. But this is who they hired to reflect their ideals. Makes us sad that we can't get tacos this good all the time. We stopped by on our last day of vacation and we're amazed at how good they were. We got a carne asada taco, Al pastor taco, and carnitas taco. I think the carnitas was the best in my opinion. But my girlfriend really liked the Al pastor. I'd definitely say you can't go wrong with any of their tacos. The service was quick and friendly. We sat at the bar top and got orders in quick and got food just as fast. I stopped by this taco spot and decided to try it out. They had a to-go window, so I ordered 3 carne asada tacos. The woman at the window was elderly, and I noticed her wipe her nose with her hands several times. At first, I assumed she was just taking orders, but then I watched her handle the tortillas and meat with those same bare hands--straight from a drawer under the stove. Great authentic street tacos at revolver. It's literally a "hole in the wall" spot in Deep ellum. I walked passed it twice before I realized where the door was. There are 3 or 4 tables but they also have a to go window. I enjoyed the carne Asada and Al pastor tacos with cilantro, lime and red sauce. The tortillas are made in house. Tacos come packed with juicy meat. The pastor had a slight sweetness and the asada tasted like the grill, they were so good. To validate the October Texas Monthly claim of "50 BEST TACO'S in TEXAS" my husband and I visited Revolver Taco in Deep Ellum. Mistake#1...we went on the Saturday of the Red River Classic. Mistake #2...we had to pay $30 for parking. Mistake #3...didn't know you'd be charged a "special event fee" even though we were 2 of 4 in the restaurant. Guess the other restaurants had better TV's? Mistake #4...no chips, no salsa, no queso, no bueno. And no sides. Only tacos. And just tacos. By the time we paid for parking, fees, pretty good Margaritas and our tacos, we were out $92 + tax and tip. Is any taco really worth that much? The answer is no. But they sure came close. Very close. Next time? Carry out. They were authentic and wonderful. read more

We were doing a mimosa walk through Deep Ellum and needed something to soak up the alcohol so we stopped in to Revolver to grab some food. I like that they have options such as lengua and octopus but I will say their regular tacos were a bit highly priced for a basic taco. I mean $6 for a carne asada taco is a bit high even for a place like Deep Ellum. The fact that they had other options made up for it. This review is specifically for brunch. Finally made it out here. It was very well executed as far as aesthetic. Very colorful and there is an equal balance of Mexican theme decor with an urban modern touch. I will say it was not busy when we got there but the setup was a bit odd as there were few tables but they were very large. We were about to ask a family if we could share table because they told us to pick a seat but all the tables ( about 3-5) were occupied. Soon one was on their way out so we took that one. I was so excited when I saw the tias making the tortillas by hand. Those two ladies were so warm it felt like we were related. Pretty much the food was mostly guisados very traditional. Sort of like being at a small traditional simple quinceañera. Like that kinda food. On another table there was one agua Fresca and coffee accompanied by a jumbo basket of pan dulce. I know how much work Mexican food is but it doesn't justify the price. The food while authentic was a bit under seasoned and seemed to be afraid to offend those without any heat tolerance. This is is Mexican food, I expect full flavors, actual heat, make me sweat! Only the ceviche was spicy but I think it was the flooding of hot sauce I poured on. By the way, no avocado on the ceviche. That's a crime. There weren't enough drink options laid out forcing my kids to choose between agua Fresca or coffee. The pan dulce was stale. I dont think it was old, it just think it had been sitting there all morning in open air it dried out. It wasn't soft. The best part of this brunch was actually surprising. If you go to the end of the buffet line by the silverware they have these tiny burritos rolled in aluminum foil. I had actually passed them because they seemed unassuming. The staff came by and offered us some and we took it. Good lord!! These were fantastic!!! My husband and I both agreed the tiny burritos were the tastiest thing there. They were warm and perfectly greasy with the right amount of heat... I want one now! We still reminisce only about those burritos. We have contemplated going back someday to try out their original menu and hopefully finds those burritos again without having to navigate the hefty brunch price. I was excited to try this place. I have stalked this place online for the longest, drooling over the stories, and when Nexfix featured the owner we just knew we wouldn't be disappointed. The price we believe is high only because we have visited other brunch places that offer authentic Mexican food with handmade tortillas but there were more offerings for way less than the cost of this place. I saw all the praise and accolades this restaurant received, went with all the intention of trying their beautiful plated food but we visited on a Sunday went they had a buffet style option. With this option of being able to try more food rather than just the one option we ended picking the buffet. I think overall all the food was good, but I can't speak highly enough of their menudo broth. I spend my childhood in Mexico and there some flavors one never forgets, that broth was one of those for me. I'm not exaggerating when I say that I cried when I tried it, the memory and familiarity of this broth had definitely pack some strong emotions on me that I didn't even knew my body still remembered. I finished my meal with a none stop flow of happy tears and wishing for a bigger stomach. If you want to try authentic Mexican food this is it. For my hubby's birthday he chose an experience in lieu of gifts and he chose Chef Regino Rojas' 7-course tasting menu. We arrived at Revolver (the restaurant) and were shown to the back where we were welcomed into the actual kitchen! We chose seats at the long table & were greeted by the KINDEST waitress. Off the drink menu we chose the Martini Margarita to start & then my hubby chose the Oaxaca Old Fashioned to accompany his dinner - both were made perfectly. As Chef Regino got started he was accompanied by two lovely ladies, one being his mother, Juanita. As each course was placed in front of us Chef would explain the dish, adding any family stories or history that inspired him. He also kindly adjusted EACH dish for me to be dairy free. We especially enjoyed as he told the family story behind the dish Mole del Tio Che. As the evening went on the Chef and the ladies would laugh & talk amongst themselves which really added to the charm & experience of being IN the kitchen with them. We learned... The "right side" of the tortilla is the side that bubbles. Not every thick sauce is an actual mole, it has to contain certain ingredients to be an authentic mole, and most are just enhanced salsas. Amongst a handful of other things. About halfway through I hit a wall & our amazing waitress kindly boxed up what I wasn't able to finish. We enjoyed it the next day This tasting was unlike anything else we've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. What a wonderful experience we had a few weeks ago in the Purepecha Room at Revolver Taco Lounge! My husband and I and six friends had the privilege of dining in the back kitchen area at Revolver Taco Lounge in September and we all loved the homey feel of eating incredible food cooked by Chef Gino's multigenerational family. Firstly, both the front sitting area and the back kitchen are full of fun decor and colorful knick-knacks that made us feel right at home. The back kitchen had a long table set up for us to sit and eat communally and also gave us a great view of everything going on to prepare the food. There was a handy QR code to scan for the drink menu; I tried the paloma to drink which was excellent and very grapefruit flavored, and my husband split a bottle of wine with one of our friends. Chef Gino came out after every course was served to give us a rundown of what we were about to eat, and we loved the little tidbits of Michoacán culinary history he sprinkled in as he introduced the dishes. Everything was delicious, but among my favorites of the night were the cantaloupe gazpacho with lobster, the shrimp tartare, the squash blossom and mushroom taco, and the potatoes that came with the last chicken mole course. The homemade tortillas that came with most of the main courses were absolutely incredible, and many in our party used the extras to mop up the excellent sauces that came with those dishes. Both desserts were also great; we got to try his grandmother's flan recipe as well as a superb strawberry jello. One of the more unique portions of the evening happened during the corunda & guisado dish; we were instructed to mash everything together and eat it with only the light of a votive candle to guide our way, as this dish was traditionally eaten on the Day of the Dead and has a lot of spiritual significance. All in all, we loved our dinner and got to chat with Chef Gino's wife and daughter for a bit as well. Look there's been a lot of rumors that Revolver Tacos used to be amazing then during Covid it fell off a cliff and wasn't good anymore. And you know, I did have some of their tacos during Covid and they weren't really that good. But! they have truly redeemed themselves in our new post covid reality and frankly I thought after being featured on Taco Chronicles it was going to make it an even more overrated experience. The Pulpo Al Pastor Taco was such a delight. Honestly, it felt a bit dry and chewy on the skinnier part of the tentacle but when you got into the center of the taco, one of the best bites of octopus ever! Are you ready for a fish taco experience unlike one you ever had? Then get the Trucha (trout) Taco please. This taco had so much flavor it punched my mouth in the face! The Al Pastor taco was as solid as they came. Super flavorful and not dry. And again the tortilla made it such a more memorable bite of food! So look, I got the Carne Asada Taco by mistake. I never order Carne Asada because I kind of feel, you've had one you have had them all. Not this one though. Big beefy flavor. Also so moist and tender! This taco is a must must must order. this place is located in the hallway between the jeni ice cream shop and merit coffee shop. i believe its called "radiator alley" i found this place via a netflix show i believe. on the show they said the best thing to get here were the octopus tacos. We ended up getting 1 pulpo taco (octopus), 1 duck taco and 1 tostada tower with al pastor. everything was tasty, but if you're looking for a place for cheap tacos, this is not it. the octopus taco were 12 bucks for one, and i believe the duck taco were about 10 bucks for one. definitely not "cheap". The best item was actually the tostada tower with al pastor. it was like a fancier nacho and i really like how they deep fried their own corn tortilla to make the tostada. not a lot of seats inside. I had Revolver on my list forever, and just so happened to be in Deep Ellum without dinner plans one night, so I finally got to give it a try. The house made tortillas for the tacos are incredible. They're also thicker than a lot of tortillas and so quite filling. I really enjoy them for the tacos, but I'm not sure I love them for the tortilla chips. The guac was also underwhelming and quite pricy--maybe because they use specific avocados? In general, I find the pricing of the different items on the menu perplexing, but I would definitely go back for some tacos in the handmade tortillas. read more

Me and a friend went on the mimosa walk in deep ellum and stumbled (no pun inputed) upon this gem while on the tour. The place is super small and they can only hold about 15 guests in the building. We were lucky to snag a table and not have to wait. They also have this cute walk up window where you order tacos and not sit inside. Lovely experience throughout our chef's tasting menu in the Purapecha Room. Revolver Taco Lounge hosts tasting menu dinners on Thursday-Saturday evenings with two seatings: 6pm and 8:30pm. Our dinner lasted about 1.5 hour with 7 courses. We made a reservation last minute and were seated in the Purapecha Room, the private dining room in the kitchen, where you get to be in the midst of the creation amongst the chef, his mother, and his aunt. Generally, I believe the Purapecha Room is reserved for a large party of 4-6 people, as the dining room table seems to be able to sit 6 people comfortably, but for our night, we (a party of 2) had the room with 2 other people, with each party sitting at opposite ends of the table. It was nice and intimate! Our server was very friendly, polite, and efficient. He walked in and out throughout our meal to make sure our dishes were placed before us/taken away with good timing, so that we were never left without a dish on the table for too long. We got glasses of sauvignon blanc and followed with a bottle of pinot noir, so he made sure our glasses were never empty, either. Great service! Aside from the chef himself, it seems that the sous chefs (mother and aunt) do not speak English - but they're super adorable, shuffling around with ingredients and cooking around the kitchen! The chef announced each dish as it was placed before us and described the creativity and ingredients of each dish. Much appreciated, as we had also been given a menu via QR code, listing out each course. My favorite dishes of the night were the first 3 dishes: - pescado tiradito with kampachi, poblano crema, fresh herbs, topped with trout roe: clean taste, fresh fish, can't complain! - gazpacho with Santa Claus melon, roasted yellow corn, snow crab, basil, drizzled with olive oil: served chilled, it's the perfect spring/summer dish! And the melon flavors went excellently with the snow crab... I would go back just for this! - Taquito de hongo tatemado (premium grilled mushrooms, melted queso menonita, grape tomatoes, roasted bell pepper salsa on white heirloom handmade corn tortilla): I just love how the flower, mushrooms, cheese, and tortilla went together so well! I thought that the flower would be chewy, but instead, it was so soft and broke with every bite. I thoroughly enjoyed this taquito! The salsa gave it a slight kick, which went well with the hint of spice in our red wine! Honestly, all the dishes were amazing, even the tres leches and flan desserts! I think my least favorite was the puerco con chile de corunda (heirloom varietal tamale, slow-roasted pork shoulder with wild tomatillo and chile de arbol salsa). This was not the typical tamale wrapped in a leaf, but it was made as beans on top of the pork shoulder. I tasted it first as is, digging into the layers. The pork and sauce were way too salty! The chef told us to mix it up, which helped to mellow out the salty flavor, but it was still noticeable. But even with that one-off, I'd still wholeheartedly give this tasting menu 5 stars for excellent service and timing of dishes, good wine selection, great variety in dishes from seafood to veggie to meats. This gives a super local vibe. It is basically just a counter and small tables. It is a large menu of unique Mexican foods and drinks. I got the tower tostadas and they were very good. Someone I was with got the octopus taco and it was also very good if you want something unique. Service was 10/10. The guacamole was also very good and came with good chips. Came into the area looking for a Vegan restaurant, found it but it was closed down. Looked across the street and saw this place, Revolver Taco Lounge. Was only one veggie option that Jairo recommended the Calabacita. Which is a veggie dish with Mexican squash and corn, tomatoes onions olive oil and a great tasting slightly spicy salsa. It was really good. Had lots of flavor, veggies not over cooked, corn tortillas are made fresh. There is a wonderful lady at the end of the grill cooking area making them right in front of you. Atmosphere is nice, service is great. There is even an covered patio to eat outside. Has a lot of options and drinks. Stayed pretty busy while I was there. Three large tvs and nice music playing. Had 6 baby tacos and my check was $60. Most expensive tacos I've ever had. Wish I could say they were the best but they were not. We had the carne asada, Al pastor, swordfish, pato, and lengua. They tasted good but not worth the price at all. Lengua was sad - don't get it especially at $8. This place is a rip off. read more

So my me and my wife had a well deserved brunch and she has had her eye on this place for a while. Mind you, we went when the whole article blast came in on us and Deep Ellum was EMPTY. Places were open but no one was out there only or crazy selves. So we were greeted by a fine gentleman who played outdoor us and we got to getting our first plate. I started with the enchiladas and made my way down the table. I was smart about it and didn't overload the first plate just as much as the plate had room only. But oh, these lovely ladies came by handing out burritos desebrada (shredded pork) and beans and I m not lying but I had a flashback memory of my aunts tacos in Mexico. Like literally, when food does that to you it's just something special. They also brought tamales, which I only had a little cause geesh I was getting full. The menudo, that was on point, it was good clean menudo not that greasy stuff. They let you dress it your way i.e. onions, cilantro, jalapeños and such. The Paloma's was our choice of drinks and they did not disappoint. Served in the clay mugs, even though it was cold as heck I enjoyed them. I love this place to be honest, I can't say I've said this about many places. Overall I enjoyed all the food that was offered. They also have coffee homemade and sweet bread. So yeah if you like some authentic good Mexican food come here. It's pricey for me and my wife with buffet and drinks two each I spend around $150. To me that experience I had with that burrito that gave me that flashback was worth it. I love my wife's and mother's cooking but that was just next level. Come check them out!! read more

Came in and got 6 tacos for $51, the lengua chicken and birria weren't good in my opinion but the al pastor carnitas and carne asada were really good. A little pricey for small tacos but the ones that we did like I would def order again. Small little hole in the wall cute place and our server was very nice and helpful read more
