Benedict w/Hashbrown (Meh..) | IG @moniquedao
Monique D.

Cute, clean little café, but the food didn't quite land for me. I ordered the Benedict and was initially excited to see it served on baguette slices instead of English muffins. I love a good crunchy baguette... but these were soft, which pretty much ruined the whole dish. Maybe I should've asked first, but still--soft baguette just doesn't work here. It also lacked color. I like a colorful dish which I feel could also mean a mixture of flavors. But everything was yellow. The hashbrown was just OK. I asked for extra crispy, and while the top was, the bottom was basically untouched. Half-crispy hashbrowns don't do much for me. Overall, the place is cute, but the food execution needs work.

Waiting outside

This cafe was so busy! Located in downtown Fullerton. There were people lined up outside, waiting for tables. We waited two hours for a table. That was two hours in the heat! It's been really warm lately, and even in the shade, it was miserable. Was it worth the wait? I'm not too sure. Finally got seated. The inside is small. They had dining tables and a bar area that they were serving breakfast at too. We got a table, because barstools are a no-go for me. I ordered the chilaquiles and it was fresh. It tasted good. Nothing to rave about though, super basic. My husband got a panini sandwich, and he liked it. Again, pretty basic. The avocado looked good on there. Overall, mediocre at best. Service was fine. I just don't have much to say about the food. It was very mid.

I used to come here often for breakfast, so when my boyfriend and I were in DTF checking out a viral matcha coffee shop, I thought, why not stop by and give this place another try? Unfortunately, I left pretty disappointed. This cafe sits on the corner of a historic 1920's building that once housed the Rialto Theater, which makes it a charming spot. But the charm ended there. Despite the half-hour wait (understandable since the space is small), the food was just not it. Everything we ordered looked unappetizing and tasted bland. What happened here?? I ordered the breakfast panini and my boyfriend got the two eggs any style. When I asked the server which side she recommended, she proudly suggested the hash browns. Sadly, they arrived cold and completely unseasoned, much like the rest of our meal. I really wanted to like this place again, but it just didn't deliver. With so many better breakfast options around DTF, this will probably be my last visit.

Unfortunately I wasn't impressed with the Chilaquiles here. On top of that, the service was strange as a server didn't want to offer me indoor seating because I had my service dog with me...

Breakfast Panini with Breakfast Potatoes

Thursday morning after 10am: Two other tables were seated in the cafe, not busy at all. It was nice and quiet during our time here. Size of the cafe is pretty cramped, during peak hours you can be an arms length away from a complete stranger, which is okay for me, not so much for my wife. Service was decent, we were greeted a few minutes after seating, and a server only to drop off our drinks, then food, and when it was time to pay. We ordered an All Veggie Omelette and a Breakfast Panini, both with breakfast potatoes. We always thought breakfast potatoes were always a hit or miss, and they were a huge miss. :( For people that missed out on checking out photos before dining in, we wished that we ordered the hash browns. As for the omelette, it was definitely an all veggie! My wife said it felt like there was no egg in the omelette. The breakfast panini could've been better if the cook on duty took the time to actually grill my panini, but I guess they were busy. It came with two strips of bacon, so bacon in only some bites, and egg that left in the pan to overcook while prepping the sandwich. Only stand out was the red pepper aioli. Will have to try other items when making a decision to return.

Always have lunch in the area, decided to try this place out, seemed to be a great tasting healthy place. We were seated at the bar, all other seats were full and it was cold outside, but all the girls were really nice and attentive. Ordered our food and drinks, and couldn't believe the plates when brought to us! Looked so good and healthy! It definitely didn't disappoint! I'll definitely be back for more, just be weary of seating!

Really enjoyed Rialto Cafe. The ambience is cozy and relaxed, the service was friendly and on point, and the steak and eggs were . Steak was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. Solid spot and definitely worth coming back to.

My daughter didn't eat any of her food.

Food was not good. 3 plates and 3 soda's $70 not including tip. The scrambled eggs were under cooked. The over easy were over cooked. The potatoes were hard and not completely cooked. The crapes had horrible strawberries.

The "French toast" and smoked salmon scramble with black coffee

I was very interested in Rialto's for a while now after hearing so much praise about it, but I was quite disappointed. The food itself as soon as it came out looked a bit underwhelming. I decided to try them both before judging but it tasted worse than it looked. I had some hope but when I put the salmon scrambled eggs in my mouth I automatically knew it wasn't good. The eggs were not even hot, the salmon was obviously not very good quality, and the goat cheese was quite overpowering especially because of the smaller portion size. The potatoes, also, were not hot, and some were firm while others were mushy. The diced vegetables that went with the potatoes were severely under seasoned. I also ordered sourdough toast with my dish and I'm not sure what kind of bread it was, if it was sourdough it much more resembled white bread (in terms of taste). The French toast was truly "not your average" French toast. The toast itself was ever so slightly toasted with no added flavors, just a piece of bread. The mascarpone cheese was much too tart/sour that it overpowered the subtle fruit compote and flavors. As the bread was lightly toasted, when I ate it the bread was already becoming soggy. I wish that this cafe would put in more effort into making their food, especially considering their service was favorable and the dishes were overpriced. It's quite obvious they did the bare minimum when preparing the food. Other than the food, the service and atmosphere were nice.

Let's just say I have never had a bad meal or bad experience here. The food is amazing, their coffee is good, and the service is excellent! It's a small, cozy place in Downtown Fullerton right where Wilshire meets Harbor. Whether it is their BLT, Breakfast Panini, Eggs Benedict, etc. you can't go wrong with this place. Their staff are super friendly and fun whether it is Alyssa, Maddie, Pablo, Tillman, etc. you are always going to feel welcome and taken care of. Keep up the great work! I'm sure I will be back again.

PARKING: They have a few parking lots nearby, it's FREE during the day. Only need to pay THURSDAY-SATURDAY 9pm-1am. AMBIANCE: It's small inside the restaurant and can get loud, but they also have around 4 tables outside. FOOD & DRINK: $5 COFFEE: unlimited brewed coffee $5 ANY JUICE (orange, cranberry, etc.) **BREAKFAST SERVED ALL DAY** $22 STEAK & EGGS: perfect amount of sirloin steak for one person (maybe 5 ounces?) comes with 2 eggs any style and hash browns or potatoes and toast. Loved this! $18 WILSHIRE OMLETE: I didn't eat this but the person who did said it was yummy.

Chilaquiles!

The service was welcoming and warm. The ambiance was cute with music playing in the background & the food was delicious! Nice little spot to stop at and grab a quick delicious bite to eat.

Good service, nice location. But the food was bland. :( I got the breakfast panini and it definitely needed some seasoning.

The rice was only $2 which is rlly nice. the ribeye was ordered medium rare and come out perfectly. While the center of the ribeye was lacking a little flavor and the crust wasnt the best, the cap of the ribeye was cooked beautifully and actually tasted very good. I've had many steaks while dining and this was the first steak to be cooked so evenly, and have flavor without overseasoning. The sleeper item of this whole meal however was the mash potatoes. extremely creamy, smooth, and rich. we also ordered the calamari as an appetizer (pictured not included) and the sauce was good, the calamari itself was okay in terms of taste, but the presentation was unique. it was the first time ive ever had to cut up my own calamari. scissors were given with the dish, and instead of the typical rings, it was more like whole squids fried up.

Your best bet is free valet, with tip of course. French Onion Soup -soo good. Gruyere was plenty and perfectly melted. Hokkaido Scallops -scallops were cooked perfectly, tender and silky. Pecans in the sauce added just the right amount of texture. We dipped out commentary sourdough into the sauce and it was perfection. Bone Marrow Mac n' Cheese -really cheesy but not overpowering, paired well with the decadent bone marrow. However, it was a bit heavy that we ended up taking the rest to-go. Summit House Cut (10 oz Prime Rib)- we ordered all around medium and our server made sure it was perfect before setting it down. She was understanding and willing to bring it back if the wellness wasn't to our desire. Tender and as expected however, we did end up asking for more au jus as it wasn't enough. Sides that came with Prime Rib weren't my favorite but they were decent. Creamed spinach not much flavor, liked the creamed corn better. Yorkshire popover was not that great, a bit too crisp on the outside that it seemed dried. Our table asked for au jus poured overtop and it helped a bit but still quite dry. English Trifle -syrup that cake is soaked in made it quite sweet. If you don't like wet mushy cakes you won't like this. Caramelized almond brittle helps bring in some extra texture.
