We ate lunch here during a weekday. Small, but a nice atmosphere. Service was right on spot, menu was large with average pricing, miso soup was delicious, but.... The rolls were completely bland. I ordered a simple spicy tuna and it wasn't even recognizable as a spicy tuna roll. It tasted like mostly rice and seaweed even though I could see that tuna was used. I was surprised. I also ordered a Boston roll. That too tasted the same.... No flavor. My husband's 2 rolls were yet the same, and his were two veggi rolls. I can only recommend this restaurant if you were to try the Chinese food offered, as the sushi was forgettable, sadly. read more

Decor/Cleanliness: Very modern, very nice. The lighting is perfect. Some colorful accent lighting at the sushi bar but not too much to be tacky. Very clean floors and tables were all clean and set with a napkin and chopsticks awaiting their next guest. Food: I started with a seasonal special - Peking Duck Roll - these rolls were fantastically wrapped in Indian bread that was lightly grilled and they sat on a drizzle of plum sauce. No need for soy sauce here. Can't say enough about these rolls. For my entree I ordered generals tso chicken and substituted my white rice with fried rice. The chicken had a very light and airy batter on them which set them apart from other generals chicken I have had. It was served with broccoli that was beautifully green and fresh. Whoever is cooking in that kitchen sure does know how to perfectly blanch broccoli. The fried rice was no frills fried rice. I got it with chicken which was not fatty or stringy and the fried rice had onions and peas in it. I usually like egg and string beans in my fried rice and was slightly disappointed when this did not however it did have a unique smokey flavor that I did enjoy very much. Overall if you are looking for decent Chinese/Japanese while you in the Dover area you should definitely make sure you stop in here. You will not be disappointed. read more

Stopped in for lunch yesterday and was happily surprised at what a great lunch I had. The staff was friendly and the service was quick. The lunch prices were very reasonable. It was clean and nicely decorated. I ordered shrimp tempura bento box and 2 extra California rolls. Everything was delicious! Service was so fast that I believe you could sit down and eat for your lunch break without going back to work late. The miso soup was hot and delicious and the shrimp was perfect. If you order a soda you get a cold can with a glass. I love this because I don't like ice in my drink. Much better than a fountain soda. I don't care for their house salad dressing but that's just a personal preference. Also yesterday was unseasonably warm and it was hot inside. I don't like to be hot when I eat out. The California rolls were loosely wrapped so when you use chopsticks they fall apart. That was annoying but they were fresh and delicious otherwise. In summary, I will definitely go back. read more

I don't know how the set up behind the "sushi bar" doesn't bother the patrons. A set up like that would in a major city's restaurant would surely not bring in return customers. First off, that cart rack with metal buckets and saran wrap covered/half-covered/not covered just honestly bothers me to no end. On top of that I had to ask for another glass of iced water as there were a few white floaties in my water that almost made me lose my appetite. I ordered a couple sushi rolls that were above average in presentation and average in taste. The price point is way too high for a restaurant that is set up like this. Went in on a Friday night and it wasn't that busy. Only a few people their. My girlfriend got the pork egg roll which she said was very tasty. She also had sesame chicken, white rice, and broccoli. I had a little bit and I thought it was tasty. Tasted like your traditional chicken, rice, and broccoli. She also ordered hot tea, which tasted like a hot cheerio honestly. She wasn't a fan but I thought it was alright. I ended up ordering the miso soup. Had a stronger onion base but I still thought it was good. Then I went with what fellow yelpers said and got the crunchy tiger roll. That was very good. Basic roll not hand rolled. Had lobster, cream cheese, avocado, some crunchy topping with a semi spicy sauce. I thought it tasted great. When I go again I would order that again for sure. As the other reviews read, Rice is a small restaurant, not easy to find, but worth the trip if you are looking for high quality Japanese food. The service here was very attentive, with no waiting of any kind. The server was always available. The first thing I had was "Gyosa" which is Japanese dumplings filled with pork. They were tasty and with more meat than wrapper. The wrapper was very thin, so it did not take away from the taste of the pork. Good sauce to dip. The miso soup was good also, perhaps average, and the salad was scarce but good. I had a sushi roll called the "Dover roll", which has spicy tuna, eel and cream cheese wrapped with seaweed and rice, all of which is then deep fried. Deep fried rolls are good. For the main meal I had Teriyaki shrimp. The sauce was mixed with fried sautéed onions which made that sauce very tasty and enjoyable. I added the sauce to the rice and vegetables to create a nice mix of flavors. Overall I would recommend this restaurant to those looking for some great service and food. read more

No low-sodium soy sauce. Miso-soup tasted instant-made. The salad dressing was bland. The wrapper around all our sushi kept peeling, and our rolls were being undone, right in front of our eyes. Rice with Teriyaki-this and Teriyaki-that were not worth it. The chinese food is completely overpriced, and you can get the same dishes at any other typical carry-out. First time visiting after hearing so much about this place. I dined in for lunch and was very hungry. First thing I noticed was how small yet quaint the place was. The miso soup was a bit bland, it was fresh and hot yet it lacked depth. It almost tasted like an onion soup that Japanese steak houses serve yet still bland. The fried rice was not good at all, the rice felt hard as if it were under cooked. The beef and vegetables were decent if you like Chinese take out style dishes where they give you ginormous chunks of bell peppers and other veggies that are bigger than the meat, the taste was decent. Now the sushi which is what the place is famous for, and rightfully so. The roll was very large and I really didn't need to order the extra dish (and wish I hadn't). I went to get sushi and I was not let down. I got a total of seven rolls. Salmon skin, tuna fantasy,hot lover roll, Romantic roll, sea world roll, under the sea, and one more that I can't remember the name of haha. They were all delicious and I couldn't pick a favorite. Tucked away in a strip mall, next to a Rite Aid, you'll find one of the few good restaurants (if not the best) in Dover. The space is laid out well, you're not bothered by the incoming crowd and the interior finishes provide a peaceful dining atmosphere. It's a small space, so large groups would be difficult to fit and you probably want to find a sitter for the kids. The food is very fresh and very flavorful. The rolls are masterfully prepared and the service is always friendly and professional. There when you need them, not there when you don't. Dining area has 10-12 tables and is rather small. The sushi bar seats 6-8 people and unlike most sushi places isn't the best seat in the house. Young polite staff, service was friendly and sushi chef rather shy and not chatty. Menu is kept simple, they have all the popular rolls, sashimi and a few "specialities". I drove to Rice from Virginia on the recommendation of a friend. It was Christmas day, I my family was traveling, so I decided against sitting around the house and for a quick road trip. I admit I'm a bit of a foodie, so this kind of drive for dinner at one restaurant is something fairly routine for me, but could give others weak knees. My first thought when my friend told me it was really good was "How good can a shopping mall chinese joint really be? They're all the same." Was I ever wrong. I got the General Tso's Chicken. While its a bit of a cliche, and most foodies will laugh me off Yelp when they see that's what I ordered, I dare say that was the best order of General Tso's I've EVER had. Beyond the General Tso's, I also got Pork Eggrolls, Chicken Fried Rice, and my dining companion got a similarly wide variety of food. While I can't speak for what he had, he agreed that his food was responsible for pushing the bar up just a notch for what he expects the next time he goes for Chinese. The only reason for four stars rather than five is my Chicken fried rice. While I'm not really a fan of traditionally greasy Shopping Mall Chinese food, the chicken used in the fried rice, and the fried rice itself were both a bit too dry for my liking. Certainly amongst the best sushi Dover has to offer, Rice is the de facto sushi restaurant for the city. Understated, elegant, and underpopulated when we visited, it was easy to grab a table for dinner. For an appetizer, I decided to throw caution to the wind and order a special, the curiously-named "rock tuna." I was not aware such a variety of tuna existed, and turns out I was correct, because the resulting dish was actually a very ornate version of fried tuna meatballs. Definitely good by meatball standards, though it's not really what I'm looking for in a sushi restaurant. I did end up grabbing a pair of tuna nigiri that was as good as I was expecting it to be, my main course was an udon noodle dish that hit the spot darn well. It's easy to see why noodle dishes are so popular in Japan - the warm, complex broths, and the slurping... so much slurping... One of my dining compatriots mentioned his disappointment that the tuna in his crazy roll was diced rather than whole, and I admit that that is a kinda lame stunt for a sushi place to pull, though I didn't taste it nor do I know the circumstances surrounding the roll. Regardless, there's no doubt Rice is definitely near the top of places to visit if you're in Dover for a week or two. read more
