Onigiri came with plenty of protein and accutrements, more than your usual onigiri, making each bite interesting. Rice was firm and bouncy. Overall great taste and texture. For being open 24/7, I found this establishment to be convenient. At the particular time of evening, only this place and the doner place across the way were open in this food court setting. I simply ordered my choice of 3 rice balls from the kiosk. You can also buy them individually or in a 4-pack. I stuck to crab, shrimp, and salmon (with an upcharge). The rice balls were pretty good. In comparison to a different rice ball establishment further north in OC, Ricebunn adds filling on top in addition to inside which I found favorable. I also ordered corn with miso butter since it sounded good. Lots of butter throughout and the saltiness of the miso was more than enough. Ricebunn is a place we definitely wanted to try for the past month. The pictures and reviews felt like it justified the effort into coming here. The most attractive part about this restaurant that made me want to try it is that, this place is open 24/7. A perfect spot to crave those nightly munchies, which we did! My little sister and I made the journey to come here and here's our review. Food - 2/5 The onigiris were alright. We enjoyed them for what's it's worth. We bought the Onigiri Quartet and the Onigiri Trio. The flavors we chose were the spicy salmon, 3x tuna mayo, spicy tuna mayo, and 2x KBBQ Beef with a side of truffle corn. The spicy tuna tasted very....normal? Which was our favorite. And the KBBQ beef could have been better. It tasted very stale, salty and old. The corn was very....basic. The total came out to be around 40 dollars which was pretty expensive. Value - 1/5 The value of eating the onigiris here is very very low. In my opinion, the onigiris were expensive and very small when compared to the Yelp pictures. I felt that, for the price we could have gone to a better spot with better pricing with better food and service. This is definitely more of a place where you eat with your eyes rather than your mouth. Service - 3/5 The service was pretty....apathetic? We ordered using the kiosk and the person in the back made our order with a deflated face. It felt like he didn't want to be there. Regardless, he was able to provide me good customer service when I opt to change my order from dine-in to to-go. Ambiance - 2/5 The restaurant is located in a food court along with other restaurants near the John Wayne airport. We came here at night so there were plenty of parking and it was pretty cold. Conclusion Unfortunately, Ricebunn, we will not be coming back again purely due to the price and value ratio of the onigiris. While we did enjoy eating them, we left the restaurant unsatisfied, feeling as if we were scammed by the pictures and the internet reviews. To preface: I have celiac. I called the restaurant prior to ordering online to be knowledgeable about what I can and can't order. I was told the Tuna Onigiri was gluten free with GF soy sauce as an alternative. After placing my order online, I called in again to ensure my order was 100% gluten free. Unfortunately I still had a reaction to it. I would possibly try ordering again, but only in person where I can be very clear. I think a big part of it was a language barrier, which I understand. However, when a customer is allergic to an ingredient that's easy to navigate around and takes all precautions, they shouldn't still be served what they're allergic to. I did see a review of another person with celiac having a similar experience. I'll also add, the onigiri plates are a great size for the price. read more

New spot in the Trade food hall as of mid 2022. Parking is ridiculous, so good luck. Order at the register and wait. Communal seating shared between all the restaurants. No line when I went, yet still quoted 15-20 minutes when I placed my order. Ended up taking 30+ minutes to get my order, which is ridiculous. They also have an order status TV, which didn't seem to work at all. Not once was my name ever on the "Preparing" list or "Ready" list, yet somehow my order was finally ready after the long wait. I got a three item sampler. You get to pick between multiple offerings. I went with tuna, salmon, and Korean bbq beef. The latter was my favorite by far. The seasoning on the outside of their rice buns is really good. Served warm. Around $15 including tax and tip. Decent size for a lunch. read more

Quick and delicious and affordable! I only got 2 onigiri since I wanted to head to a nearby Cafe after but it was pretty filling. I had a salmon and a tuna. Personally I found the tuna to be rather average - I think it needs a little extra oomph of something to make it stand out. However, the salmon was extremely delicious and had a unique flavor! Next time I plan to get that again and maybe try the Kbbq one. I like that they give it to you with each onigiri wrapped in parchment paper to keep the rice ball together and keep your hands clean :) The location is great, cozy little outdoor food court. read more

Ricebunn currently is at its soft opening stage and I'm so excited to have a food place closer to irvine that serves onigiri! The only other riceball place I've tried is Ternori in stanton, but I actually like Ricebunn better because the seaweed to rice to filling ratio is more even. Rice is cooked to perfection and the aesthetic look of the onigiri is pretty. Their grand opening is this Saturday, I think, so I decided to go today to avoid the crowds. *Salmon Onigiri* My favorite of the three comes close to the kbbq, Salmon was pretty flavorful and tasted good! *Shrimp Onigiri* I feel like I would've liked this one spicy, so if you get this one, ask for the spicy version. It's a little plain on its own. *Spicy KBBQ Onigiri* This one is filled with bulgogi! It's a nice texture and tastes good! Probably my second favorite behind salmon. This was absolutely amazing! I would have this if I were ever on death row. It's final meal worthy. The kbbq was delicious, the meAt was juicy and the rice tasted so fresh! I was so disappointed to open my carton and find that instead of a perfectly formed triangle of salmon flavored rice, I had a mushy blob rice pile. What I liked about the rice ball was how much meat was inside the onigiri. It was the perfect ratio of meat and rice without the rice being overwhelming. Maybe my expectations were too high but I love onigiri and for a place that's relying on it being the star it didn't impress me. To put it simply, the onigiri doesn't stay together- it falls apart!!! My sister makes it better! The beef tastes good at least but there was also too much rice. We also ordered a rice bowl. I think you're better off getting that than the onigiri. Cashier dude was lovely +1 and gave a great rec for the spicy garlic corn +1. Shrimp was overloaded with kewpie for my taste -1. Salmon and beef were ok if a bit salty +1. The rice texture was a bit mushy -1 and seaweed immediately got soft as there was no protective plastic layer between the seaweed and rice vs other more authentically Japanese places. Everything was served nice and hot +1 with neat presentation (though with the toppings outside definitely needed a fork). It's a food court window so keep expectations tempered. read more

Not sure if I came on an "off" day but the rice in all 3 of my onigiri was very mushy and too soft - rice was cooked with too much water. Having the furikake dusting the outside of the onigiri definitely made for prettier pictures but all of them ended up tasting pretty similar due to the sweetness of the furikake flakes. Ended up tossing most of my lunch after just a couple of bites. Luckily, there's other food vendors in the same food court plaza so I tried other places as well.
