I took my car in for collision repair on June 25, 2008. Eddie Zipperstein assured me that the car would be ready for pick up by July 3, 2008. I was eager to have my car for the 4th of July weekend. I didn't hear anything from them so I thought everything was OK. On Monday June 30, I called to make sure the car would be ready as promised. They told me that they were waiting on approval on a supplemental for additional damages on my car and to check back Tuesday, July 1. Eddie said they are still waiting for approval and to check back the following day. So, to sum up, I had to three way Eddie at the auto body shop and Allstate to make sure that everything was in place to ensure my car back in a timely fashion on three different occasions. On July 3, I was told my car would not be ready and to call on Monday. I called on Monday, they said it was not ready and to check back on Tuesday or Wednesday. At this point, I was livid at the poor customer service they were providing for me. I decided to wait until they called me to pick my car up, which felt like eternity. Friday, July 11, 2008 at 5:30pm- my car was finally ready for pick up. My car looked new again. I appreciated their hard work, but they left their cleaning supplies in my car due to a rushed car wash and forgot to put in my mats. So, it's an even trade. Now, tell me if I'm wrong. Since I am not in the automotive business at all, a deadline is a deadline. If this were college, and we turned in a report a week late- I'm sure we would have received a failing grade. So, for all the business owners out there, please stay true to your word or be honest with your customers and be realistic on timing. Your customers are the ones that keep you open everyday. These guys rock! I had never been in an accident before but if this is how I will get treated, I am okay with it! I was rear ended the other day in Edgewater during a bad snow storm and these guys really took care of everything! I had no idea what was going to happen to my car since it was smashed up in the back and now not drivable. They had a rental waiting and took care of everything with the insurance company. I recently just got into ANOTHER accident and I didnt have to think twice as to where to take it to. RICHARDS BODY SHOP on LAWRENCE !!!! I didnt want to file another claim on my insurance company, since it was because I hit a shopping cart in parking lot. I took it right over to the shop and they gave me a VERY REASONABLE price on the repairs. I was told it would take only 3 to 4 days and they had it done in 2. My bumper looked brand new. I took my car here when I got into an accident because my friend recommended it. Biggest mistake ever. They didn't replace the parts that were broken, they simply "repaired it" so they can net more profit. paint job was horrible. The paint was fish eyed, if you don't know what that means look it up. On top of that, i had to pay for a flat tire when it wasn't flat when i brought it in. Shop is a mess and they gave me car back weeks after it was promised. Do yourself a favor and go to more reputable shop that won't rip you off or scam you out of your insurance money. read more

I was in a car accident on 290 and have a nissan sentra. I called the nissan place on Iriving (those guys are great). They work closely with RIchards and they had a tow to come get me within minutes! The staff was friendly and called me weekly to keep me updated on my car. They had my car detailed inside and out and made sure everything was in tip top shape before leaving. They also allowed me to leave the car I was renting for Enterprise to come and pick up. I hope that I do not have to have any other work done, however, if I do, I will take it back there for sure! read more

I recently had a construction sign fall on my car at Hollywood and Lake Shore Drive. It did a lot of damage to passenger side of my car. I brought it to Allstate and they took care of my car but they wanted me to go to there preferred auto body shop Sterling which is owned by Allstate. I wanted to bring back my car to Richards Auto Body since I have had such good success with them. They took my car I had a rental car waiting. This shop is absolutely wonderful from start to finish. The customer service is above and beyond. When I brought my car in they took care of setting up my rental making sure I had one before I left the shop. They also thoroughly walked me through the damages and explained everything that would need to be done and why. They send you updates on the entire process from when they submit the pictures for your claim, submitting the estimate, receiving insurance check, start to finish of repairs. Whenever I called someone was always available and everyone I talked to was always pleasant and patient making sure to answer all my question. Eddie is the best ! I took my Range Rover into Richards on the recommendation of a friend. I was told to ask for Ed. I'd been sideswiped the day before, one week after I'd bought the car. There was a long scrape almost the length of the car. Ed came outside and looked at it and it was the darnedest thing...he tried to talk me down in what I needed, not up! He said: "Oh, you can do all of this or a little of that and it will you'll probably not notice a difference at all." He told me to bring it around to the back and he'd have his best guy look at it and work on it. It was astounding, the awesome service I got at Richards. Ed was a genuinely honest man who only wanted what was best for me. Talk about feeling taken care of. Don't be intimidated by the place. You'll see Maserati's/Range Rovers/Jaguars--but they work on all cars. There are Honda's there too. They are one of only a few (if only) shops that are certified to work on aluminum body vehicles. You might skip the dealer and just take your vehicle directly to them as they probably bring them there anyway. Can't say enough great things about Richards and the service I got there. A+ read more

I was referred here by Mazda Autobarn in Evanston, IL who seem to work exclusively with this shop. My car had ~2.5k of front body work after being damaged during a hit-and-run. It took 18 days turn around to get the car back which included a supplement to insurance and parts delivery. First off, the car looks great. From what I understand, my experience was the exception rather than the norm. I didn't get any status updates, which was frustrating. I had to do the follow up and received vague estimates and excuses for why I didn't get any updates. When I picked up the car, I pointedly criticized the lack of communication.The manager was immediately empathetic. Later that day I got a call from the owner. He was genuinely concerned with customer satisfaction. Both interactions with management were great, end of story. They just need to get someone customer-facing to provide proactive updates and estimates. Overall, the quality of work was exceptional but communication should be better from the start. read more

Yes, I needed Richard's Body Shop to fix my brand new SUV after I backed it into a pole only three days after I bought it. Realizing how distressing this must be for a customer who wants nothing more than to bond with his new car, I must say, I was very impressed with Richard's. They did call me with frequent updates and were able to get my car done in a relatively quick timeframe. I don't have "longterm data" on how the repair will hold up, but as far as the customer service aspect goes- five stars! Initially I wasn't going to go to Richard's, but seeing as how the Richard's tow truck driver was very courtesy and polite, I decided to leave my car with them. I do not regret that decision at all. Its very very dull service. I repaired my new minivan with them & they promise so many things like give car in a week , all the fixes are check through 40 point inspection, etc. Overall it took them 6 week to fix my car and main thing they never response u well once they sign contract with us. Always have to wait 5 min. atleast on the phone to talk with Eddy (the guy who usually know everything.). So far in my car i found 4 defect which they never fix it. They still got the check from my car insurance for those defect. Now i am trying hold on those guys to fix those parts but they never response on the phone neither they fix my car at their location. They invite 2 times to come and fix but guess what , I did that 2 times and spend my entire day sitting waiting to fix and at the end it same story. (Missing parts , they never have a inventory so they tell u to come back) I suggest do not go to fix your car at this location. VERY VERY BAD SERVICE !!! read more

My car had a dent on the side from a fender bender in the garage and it took more than twice as long to fix the car as they initially said in their estimate. Then, even though they said I could leave my carseat in the car, I showed up and it had been removed from the car. I met the alleged owner of this company the morning our scooter was pinned under a car. He told me they specialized in scooter/motorcycle repair and that they would work with whatever quote our insurance gave them. Since we didn't have collision insurance on the scooter, we decided to pay for the repairs. They were eager to pick up the damaged bike and take a 50% deposit for the work. We were informed that everything would be completed in 7-10 business days. Needless to say, it took almost seven days longer than expected, and our calls were only returned when I threatened to call the Better Business Bureau. When we finally picked our scooter the kick stand hadn't been replaced; but was one of the key things we asked them to fix and is on the quote.
