Finally, found the occasion to try it when we were hosting a party of 8. As the name implies, it's just takeout. Nothing more than a kitchen and counter inside. No tables. We ordered online ahead of time. Two family meals: one pasta and two pizzas. Each came with a salad and bread. The bolognese was great. Fresh pasta drenched in meat sauce. It's a bit heavy, but flavor was on point and I kept going for more. Also, fantastic to sop up the sauce with cheesy bread. The pizzas were one topping only, so we went with pepperoni and mushroom. Both were solid, but I'm regretting not getting the diavolo. Overall, the food is good but wish the portions were a bit bigger. Prices are reasonable. Recommend ordering online about 30-60 mins ahead, as they are super busy during dinner time. Free parking

My issue was with my most recent experience. I'm not a fan of the large tomato chunks in the deep dish sauce, so during a previous visit, an employee told me they could substitute their regular pizza sauce. She warned me that it could make the dough soggier, but I accepted that risk, ordered it that way, and the pizza came out perfect. I returned about two weeks later and ordered it exactly the same way. A newer employee told me he had been instructed never to make a deep dish with that sauce because it could affect the dough. I explained that another employee specifically told me to order it this way and that I had already tried it and loved it. I was willing to pay for it and completely accepted the risk, but he still refused to make it. I don't blame the employee because he made it clear that he was new and was simply following the instructions he had been given. My issue is with the inconsistency and how the situation was handled. I ended up leaving with nothing because they refused to make an order they had made for me just two weeks earlier. The pizza itself is great, but this was a very disappointing customer service experience. I have never been to any establishment in my life and been turned away because they couldn't make a very minor adjustment to a food order that I had already previously ordered there.

Just came here this morning at 10:00 AM with a friend to check out what all the buzz is about here at the newly opened Riera's Place, and I can understand why everybody is talking about the food and service here. Riera's Place is the place to go for sandwiches, salads, pizza, deli meats, and more! The owner, Nick, is as nice and genuine as they come. He greets everybody by name and is the kindest and friendliest person. Now...on to the food that we ordered. We had the Nick's Breakfast Burrito with sausage and the Riera's Special signature cold sub. The breakfast burrito had terrific flavor and the homemade salsa was delicious. The sausage in the breakfast burrito was extremely flavorful, which we later learned was imported. The Riera's Special signature cold sub is one of the best I have ever had! Italian cold cuts hot capocollo, mortadella, cotto salami, pepperoni & provolone cheese with lettuce, tomato, red onion, mayo and this amazing Italian dressing. WOW! It's a must! I am definitely looking forward to going back and trying all the other menu items. Great food, excellent quality, and terrific service! read more

I recently visited a deli in my neighborhood and was blown away by the quality of service and the delicious food. From the moment I stepped in, I was greeted with a warm smile and welcoming atmosphere. The staff was incredibly friendly and took the time to answer all of my questions about the menu. The food itself was outstanding. Every item was fresh and made to order. The ingredients were of the highest quality, and the flavors were exquisite. I didn't realize how much I've liked this place until I walked 2 miles for some lunch yesterday. The cold winds and unexpected hail never gave me 2nd thoughts to turn back around. Except for in NY, I hadn't declared a favorite sandwich place in LA until I discovered this place. There are some good ones, of course, but whatever the owner planned to create, he nailed it. The only downside is that it's not open 24 hours. Now It's hard to make dish recommendations. I feel like you can play spin the bottle with the menu. I haven't tried the pizza yet, only because it looks a little too addictive. Try the Riera's Special(an incredible Italian sub) or maybe Papa Joe's Tri-Tip Dip(it's the tip-top of taste). I think I've started to dream of Nick's Breakfast Burrito, as I wake up thinking about it quite often. And go figure, now I'm friggin hungry and craving Nonna's Meatball. read more

A Neapolitan Pizza Experience That Needed a Little More Quality Control…read more My mom chose Locale 90 because they specialize in Neapolitan pizza, and that caught her attention immediately. She recently returned from a trip to Italy and has been on the hunt for places around Los Angeles County that offer a more authentic Italian experience. She was especially interested because Locale 90 imports their pizza dough from Italy. This past Friday, I invited my mom down to the South Bay for an evening walk around Riviera Village in Redondo Beach. Since we were already there, I suggested we finally try Locale 90 -- and with the summer heat, being by the beach was an added bonus. We stopped in and, even though it was getting close to closing, the staff were friendly and welcoming. The host/server greeted us, let us know we could sit anywhere, and quickly brought us water, menus, and silverware. My mom had several questions about the pizza, and he was patient and helpful in explaining our options. We decided to share the Spicy Salame Pizza Rossa. When the pizza initially came out, one of the staff members noticed that the honey drizzle had been forgotten. She immediately corrected it and brought the finished pizza back out. I thought the pizza was tasty and nicely toasted, but my mom immediately noticed that the crust didn't seem right to her. Since she had just returned from Italy and specifically chose Locale 90 because of its Neapolitan pizza, she was expecting the characteristic qualities of that style: a very soft and elastic dough, a thin and tender center, and a light, airy, blistered crust around the edges. Neapolitan pizza is traditionally cooked at extremely high temperatures for a short amount of time, creating charred spots on the exterior while keeping the inside soft and flexible. Instead, she found our crust noticeably too chewy and firm, without the soft, pliable texture she expected. She even pointed out that a slice should have more of that soft, floppy quality when picked up rather than holding a firmer shape. She brought it to our server's attention after we'd had a few bites, and he agreed that the pizza hadn't been cooked properly. He offered to have the head chef remake it and explained that another employee had prepared the pizza incorrectly. I appreciated that they acknowledged the mistake and offered to correct it. Mistakes happen, and I was glad they took responsibility and attempted to make it right. However, because Neapolitan pizza has such a specific preparation and cooking method, I do think this is an area where better kitchen quality control would make a difference. If the pizza wasn't prepared according to the restaurant's intended standard, ideally it shouldn't have made it out of the kitchen in the first place.

I've been to Locale90 a handful of times over the years and remembered it being good enough that,…read morewhen we found ourselves nearby with the family, going back seemed like an easy decision. Walking into an almost completely empty dining room while seemingly every restaurant around it was busy gave me pause, but sometimes an empty restaurant is simply good timing. We sat down hoping that was the case. There is real care behind the ingredients here. The pizza is built from the right vocabulary. 00 flour, San Marzano tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, good olive oil and you can taste that somebody has made deliberate choices about what belongs on it. I ordered the Margherita and added mushrooms, which turned out to be a great addition. The mushrooms were excellent, the tomato had real flavor and the blistering from the oven gave it that irregular handmade character you want from this kind of pizza. The proportions just didn't quite work for me. There was so much crust relative to what was happening in the center that eventually the crust became the meal. Some of the char crossed pretty decisively into black, which I can live with from a very hot oven, but the Margherita also felt strangely stingy on cheese. When the dough is already carrying that much weight, you need enough happening on top to meet it halfway. By the end I was dipping the leftover crust into the ravioli sauce simply to give it something to do. That ravioli, incidentally, was excellent. Easily the best thing we ordered. Tender, comforting, with a tomato sauce good enough that we deliberately saved what was left. The kids demolished it, which is generally a more honest review than anything I can write. The Caesar was the disappointment. There were beautiful whole anchovies on top which I loved and wish more places had the nerve to serve but the salad itself was absolutely drowned. The dressing was so aggressive and heavy that the lettuce had already surrendered by the time it reached us. Soggy, over dressed, oxidized brown parts in the lettuce and far more intense than it needed to be. I didn't have the heart to send it back because nothing was technically "wrong" with it. It was just a good collection of ingredients that had been smothered into submission. Service had a similar problem. Nothing overtly bad, but very little warmth. The new hostess was clearly being trained, so no criticism there. The main service felt more transactional than hospitable. Order, check-in, dessert, check, moving us through the sequence efficiently without ever making the meal feel particularly cared for. The wine recommendation was genuinely good, requests were handled and nobody was rude. It simply felt generic. The space itself is pleasant, especially with the coastal air coming through and there is clearly ability in the kitchen. That is probably what makes the experience harder to rate. This isn't a bad restaurant. There were flashes of something very good here. When the meal was over, the ravioli was still the thing I kept thinking about. There is enough quality here that I wouldn't write Locale90 off and I'd come back hoping some of the smaller things. The balance of the pizza, the Caesar and a little more warmth in the service land differently next time. Three stars, for me, doesn't mean bad. It means there is something good here that hasn't quite come together yet. The ingredients are there. Some of the cooking absolutely is too. I hope they take the criticism in the spirit it's intended, because with a few adjustments this could easily become a place I'm excited to return to rather than one I'm still trying to figure out.
